STEFAN SUKICH November 21, 1921 - November 3, 2004 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Stefan Sukich on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the age of 82 years. This day will hold a special memory in our hearts as November 3 was also the 58th wedding anniversary for Stefan and his wife Anna. Stefan passed away peacefully surrounded by all of his immediate family including each and every grandchild and great-grandchild at his side. Stefan leaves to mourn his loving wife Anna; his children, Mary (Matt), Joseph (Karen), Stephen (Caroll), Hilda (Marty); his grandchildren
, Matthew (Barbara), Michelle (Mark), Warren, Amanda, Kelsey, Jackie (Blair), Randy (Lora), Daryl, Alyssa, Myranda, Syrena, Joshua, Rybecca; his great-grandchildren, Landin and Madison; also surviving is sister Ana of Slovenia; sister-in-law Veronika of British Columbia; Uncle Joe (Maria) of Chicago; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his parents, Jozef and Judita; sister Marija; and brother Joe. Stefan was born
in the village of Martinje, Slovenia and served in the Second World War. Stefan and his family came to Canada in 1958. He worked as a custodian for the Winnipeg School Division in his latter years. Stefan was a loving husband, father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He made friends wherever he went and was always trying to get a smile out of people. Stefan was a strong and proud man, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Being a devout Catholic, his faith carried him through difficult times. The family would like to express their thanks to his Home Care workers and also the staff at Oakview PCH and Fred Douglas Lodge for all the care provided and in making his final days as comfortable as possible. Prayers will be said on Friday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 95 MacDonald Ave. with Rev. Fr. Stan Gacek as celebrant. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Matthew Sobocan, Warren Sukich, Daryl Irvine, Randy Irvine, Mark Tetzlaff and Albert Casar. EVELYN BERNICE TELFORD (Nee ENGLISH) 1921 - 2004 Mom passed away peacefully the morning of November 3, 2004, at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 83. Mom was born
October 19, 1921, in Cardale, MB, to Annie and Herman English. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda St. Hilaire-Kelly (Neil), Heather Bell (Richard) and six grandchildren, Andrew, Aimee and Emilie St. Hilaire and Karen, Keith and Diane Stephen. In addition, she is survived by her brother Harvey (Pearl) English of Cardale; her sister Marguerite Waddell (Don Marion) of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Joseph Telford in January 2004; her parents, Herman and Annie English; a brother Russell in 1923 and her sister Neta Campbell in 1997. Mom was an avid fan of curling and baseball, and enjoyed golf. She loved gardening, and was well known for her plentiful crop of tomatoes each summer. She treasured her times at the lake, and the many beautiful flowers which she planted there were always a highlight for passers-by. For the past three years, Mom was a resident of Riverview Health Centre, and the family would like to thank the staff of A2 and C4 for the dedication and compassion they provided her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of her life is planned for Monday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Riverview Health Centre, located at 1 Morley Avenue in Winnipeg. COLLEEN JOY VANLEEUWEN (nee BARON) On October 2, 2004, after a lengthy illness, at her home in Victoria, BC, surrounded by her loving family. She is now in a better place at her loving family. She is now in a better place at home with her Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ. She leaves for the time being, her husband of 29 years of a happy married life, Donn; and two children, Joshua Michael and Jordan Christian, both still at home, as well as her parents, Michael and Irene Baron of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born on August 31, 1952, in Edmonton, Alberta, Colleen later received her education in Winnipeg. She attended Balmoral Hall School and the University of Winnipeg. Colleen was a person who had many interests and talents. An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing the harp, piano, accordion, saxophone and flute. In 1992 she moved to Victoria, BC, where she worked tirelessly for the under-privileged. For the glory of the Lord, she cared for them in many ways, giving piano lessons to children who were unable to afford them, and telling and giving dramatic readings of her stories at various venues, as well as helping people from all walks of life. Not long before she was diagnosed with cancer, she finished writing and publishing her first book, "Do I Have a Story to Tell!" She was an unselfish person who always looked to better the interests of others, and went to great lengths to help those in need; including making large pots of soup and stew and taking it to the street people in Victoria, BC. Colleen will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, both in Winnipeg and Victoria. The funeral was held at McCalls Funeral Home in Victoria and Burial took place at the Royal Oak Cemetery, in Victoria. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at the Trinity Baptist Church, 549 Gertrude (at the corner of Nassau), Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. There will be an open microphone for those wishing to pay tribute. ARTHUR HAROLD PHILIP WEAVER Peacefully, on Thursday, November 4, 2004, at the Grace Hospice, with his family by his side, Arthur passed away at the age of 70 years. JOSEPH ZEMCAK Peacefully with his loving family at his side, on Monday, November 1, 2004, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Joseph Zemcak passed away at the age of 56 years. MANFRED G. AUGUSTIN Fred passed away peacefully on October 27, 2004 at Health Sciences Centre. He was 60 years old. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 26 years, Connie; their two children, Cornelia and Jerry; his brothers, Karl from Edmonton and Ernst (Heidi) from Germany; nieces and nephews, Karl (Bev), son Karl, Edmonton; Eric (Marcia), children Jordan, Madison, Edmonton; Karin (Jorg), daughter Jana, Germany; Charlene (Kelly), son Darby; Brandon; Chris, children Nevaeh and Caitlyn, Washington. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins in Germany and in-laws in Brandon. He was predeceased by his mother Maria in 1980 and his father Karl in 1996 both of Germany. Fred loved the outdoors and could often be found camping and fishing or just manning the barbecue on nice days. He instilled a great love and respect for nature in both of his children and the family has many happy memories of being in the outdoors together. DRAGO (CHARLIE) BRCKOVIC It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Drago (Charlie) on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the young age of 63 years at his residence. Our loving Tata is survived by his loving wife Dragica; his children, Darko, Kathy (Johnny), Marijana (Edi) and Shanny; his grandchildren Emma and Larry; great-grandchildren Blaze and Mariah; and his favourite buddy Gage. He is also survived by his brother Slavko; sisters, Ljubica, Marica, and Barica in Croatia along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. Tata was predeceased by his father Stjepan and mother Kata. Tata was born
in the village of Donja Kupcina, Croatia in 1941. He fled his country and came to Canada for a better life in 1961. He settled in Winnipeg where he met and married Mama in 1968. He worked for City Bread as a baker and then foreman for 35 years until his retirement in 1997. Tata loved the outdoors for as long as we can remember, he especially loved hunting and fishing along with making wine and mushroom picking. Some of his best times were simply hanging out in his garage with his friends and family. Tata was a strong and proud member within his community and could often be found volunteering at the church, Folklorama, The Legion and numerous other functions. Tata was a loving husband, father and a wonderful grandfather, even though it was for a short time, we will make sure your grandchildren always remember you. Tata had many friends who he loved like they were family, and was looked upon as family by all those who knew him. He will be missed greatly. RONALD BRYAN LOBB passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg on Friday, November 5, 2004 at the age of 68 years. Born August 17, 1936 at Gladstone, Bryan grew up in the Bear Creek District and attended Bear Creek School. He worked for farmers in the district and at an early age began working for C.N.R., first as a fireman and then as a heavy machine operator. He had worked throughout western Canada. After retiring from the railroad in 1968 he has resided in Winnipeg and worked at various jobs for a number years. Predeceased by his parents, Archie and Eleanor Lobb; and a brother Allan. He is survived by his companion Shirley; three aunts, Bertha Bruce, Betty Meloney, Louise Patterson; and numerous cousins and friends. ROY ALEXANDER DMYTRIW 1939 - 2004 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, geegee and friend on November 3, 2004 at the age of 65. Roy was born
on March 25, 1939 in Winnipeg and attended schools in, Ontario and in Winnipeg. In 1956, he began his 39 year career with Canadian National Railway as a machinist. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Evelyn, and together they raised five children. Living in Winnipeg until 1969, Roy, Evelyn and family moved to Oakbank in which they became very active in the community. Roy enjoyed playing hockey on the Camp Morton Angels and the Oakbank OldTimers hockey team. He also participated in coaching hockey, baseball, volunteered as a firefighter and enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader. Roy had a love for woodcarving, with the outdoors such as hunting, fishing, gardening and always had time for family and friends. He always lent a helping hand at his parish in Cooks Creek Church. Roy always maintained their town's beautiful flowered baskets with his neighbor, and afterwards enjoyed a healthy beer. Roy and Evelyn have had many wonderful times together. They also loved to dance and listen to their Ukrainian music. Roy especially cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. Roy will be sadly missed and remembered by his loving wife of 45 years, Evelyn (Nellie); and children, Terri, Garry and sons, Cody, Ryan and Perry; Allan, Diane and children, Justin, Mark, Rachelle and Kevin; Cathy, Rick and children, Kyleigh and Tyler; Peter, Brigitte and sons, James and Matthew; David, Trish and children, Michael, David and Mary. Also mourning are his mother Katherine; sisters, Stephie and Rosie; brothers, Richard and Ernie. Roy was predeceased by his father Joseph. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held with prayers on Sunday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, in Cooks Creek, MB. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, November 8 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the RCMP, Paramedics, Emergency staff at the Concordia Hospital and to the Good Samaritan for his assistance. SAM DOLOVICH
SAM DOLOVICH 1929 - 2004 In the warmth and comfort of his home Sam Dolovich passed away peacefully on October 30, 2004 after a lifetime distinguished by great courage, strength, grace, humour and humility. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Rachel Dolovich; and by his brother Dr. Jerry Dolovich (Myrna). He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Tania. He will be deeply missed by his four sons, Michael, Allan, Jeffrey and Gary; and by his four daughters-in-law, Pat, Kayla, Laurie and Dalit. He also leaves behind many adoring grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. Sam was born
on March 23, 1929. All of Sam's schooling took place in Winnipeg and he graduated from St. John's High School in Winnipeg's North End. He chose a career in pharmacy and graduated from the University of Manitoba's School of Pharmacy in 1956. He served his profession well and what distinguished him was the sincere care he demonstrated for each of the patients he served during his working years. Sam met his bride-to-be, Tania Fridell, while he was a pharmacist's apprentice. They married in 1952 and so began a 52 year relationship that is a model for us all of how husband and wife express love for one another in times of both joy and tragedy. They built a home founded on love, joy, laughter, and respect for one another. These values they taught to their children not so much by lecture but through living example. In 1976 Sam suffered a debilitating stroke. With Tania by his side day and night Sam fought his way out of the abyss and returned home after more than a year in hospital. His resolve continued on throughout the remainder of his life even when he was hit in 1994 at a much more advanced age by cancer that plagued him until the end. He combatted that disease with the same strength and determination he showed when confronting each of life's great challenges. Although Sam was now limited physically, he carved out a life for himself within the parametres set by fate. What is perhaps most remarkable is that he faced these difficult challenges without an ounce of bitterness or self-pity. Prior to taking ill Sam was an avid sportsman enjoying golf in the summer and curling and hockey in the winter. He was also an excellent baseball player, an all-star catcher. He also had a deep appreciation for music, an appreciation that he passed on to his children and their children. After taking ill, Sam enjoyed taking long walks in his electric wheelchair, both in Winnipeg and in Gimli and he could often be seen with one or two extra grateful passengers at a time, his grandchildren. Special gratitude must be expressed to Miriam Jaeger. Although throughout the years she has always been such an important and beloved member of the family, it is nearly impossible to overstate how much she helped both Sam and Tania during his final illness. Simply put, she helped lessen both their pain. The family would also like to express its gratitude to Dr. Carey Isaac and the nursing and support staff at Concordia General Hospital's N1 South. Interment took place on November 1 at the Sha'arey Zedek Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jerry Fridell, Frank Jaeger (honorary), Bruce Jaeger, Joey Pollock, Steven Ratson, Joel Morris and Stephen Field. Rabbi P. Weizman presided over the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
