GUDRUN ADAMS

GUDRUN BERTHA ADAMS (NANA) (nee OLSON) August 2, 1911 - November 18, 2004 For a very special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with love It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gudrun Bertha Adams on Thursday, November 18, 2004 with her family by her side at the age of 93. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Stan; son Theo (Babby); son-in-law Bill McArthur; and her 11 brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Loreen McArthur and Sharon Davidson (Garry); her grandsons, Danny McArthur (Christine), James McArthur, Joe McArthur (Lisa); her grand-daughter Christy-Lee Adams; great-grandchildren, Willy, Nik, and Chelsea; daughter-in-law Marlene Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was born icon in Winnipeg Beach on August 2, 1911. She married dad in 1932 and moved to Selkirk to start their family. They moved to Winnipeg in 1936. After Dad's passing she moved to Pinawa where she lived with her daughter for 24 years before moving in July 2001 to her new home at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre. Mother achieved her dream of visiting Hawaii not only once but three times and was so happy to actually swim in the ocean. She loved to gamble and was always very lucky - she was able to go to Las Vegas nine times. She loved playing bingo and was adament about having certain numbers on her cards every time she played. She also liked bowling, music and dancing and really enjoyed doing her own thing on the dance floor. She used to play the piano and with her beautiful voice sing her children to sleep at night. She also enjoyed our annual visits to the Taste of Manitoba where she always had to have her mini hamburgers. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the West Kildonan Legion Branch No. 30 for over 30 years. She did beautiful embroidery work and was a great cook - she made the best apple pies. She had the greatest sense of humour and kept us laughing all the time. Her grandson was so thankful that she was able to attend his wedding in August 2004 - it was to be her last big outing. Mother was a feisty and tough lady and fought very hard to stay with us. Our hearts are forever broken. Bertha's family would like to express a very special thank you to the 1st floor staff of the Kildonan Personal Care Centre (you know who you are) for all your thoughtfulness, kindness, tenderness, compassion and care you extended to our mother. She was blessed to have you all in her life. Thank you also for the care and support you gave to the family during this sad and difficult time. You are truly very special people. You will be fondly remembered forever. A mother is pure joy, good comfort, strong hope, and sweet faith. A mother is love made real. A mother is a hand when you need it, a smile when you're sad, a lift when you're weary, a song when you're glad, a help when you falter, a word when you're blue, a hope for the dreams that are special to you. What a true blessing you are to us. Love you. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main Street. Interment will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation to your favorite charity would be appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
