WILLIAM (BILL) ALLEN LENTON June 28, 1931 - November 20, 2004 After a short battle with cancer, Bill Lenton of Miami, MB quietly and peacefully found release from his earthly body. Bill was a very strong, independent and progressively thinking man. Over the course of his life he was able to start many ventures and continued to generate new ideas and options that would assure the future prosperity of his beloved Miami community, his children and friends. He had the uncanny ability to look at everything from many different angles and always had suggestions on ways to improve, rebuild or expand a venture. A pioneer by his own admission, Bill started the first bison ranch in Canada, and was one of the founding producers for the PMU industry through which his own farming operation thrived, but also provided him with the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Canada, United States and abroad. As he travelled he gathered many longtime friends and associates and even more business ideas. Bill served on many many board of directors over the course of his life. He was the Chairman of the Co-op Board, Chairman of the Miami Chamber of Commerce, Agricultural Chairman, first chairman of the Miami Junior Rifle Club, Director on the Pool Elevator Board, Secretary of the Young Farmers Seed Club, member on the Red River Water Board, an Elder of the Miami United Church, Director for the National Farmers Union (provincially and nationally), Director on the Thompson Miami Development Board, one of the founding members of the Miami Mule Derby, and perhaps his favourite position was a board member of the Canadian Bison Association and the Manitoba PMU Producers Associations. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Pat; his brother Jim; daughters, Diana, Janice, Gail; his son Darwin; ten grandchildren
who he was immensely proud of; five great-grandchildren and foster son Wes. He was predeceased by his first wife Myrtle in 1994; his parents, Frank and Ida; and one sister Mary. Funeral service will be held from the Miami Community Centre in Miami on Wednesday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. IAN FREDERICK MacKICHAN November 24, 1919- November 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ian Frederick MacKichan, beloved husband of Margaret, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84. Ian was born
November 24, 1919, the youngest child of Frederick and Hannah MacKichan. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Fairburn; and sisters, Dugalda, Isabel, Winona, Mary and Mildred. He was so proud of his family and is survived by Margaret, his wife of 55 years; son Tom (Pat); daughter Penny (Gaetan) Joyal; his precious granddaughter, Christine; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Ian spent his life in Winnipeg, except for his years of service from 1941 to 1945 with the RCAF in Europe. He and Margaret settled in St. Vital to raise their family. Ian retired from the Post Office in 1979 after 23 years of service. During retirement, they spent several winters in Texas and enjoyed travel, many bus tours, golf and time with family and friends. A service will be held on Wednesday, November 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with interment and reception to follow. It is the family's wish to extend special thanks to all who have cared for Ian, including his homecare nurse, Janice Bradford, Dr. Cummings, paramedics and the Emergency staff at the Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals. DEAN WILLIAM MARTIN 1960 - 2004 Peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2004 with his family by his side, Dean passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. Dean was predeceased by his father William in 1960. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Hazel Martin of Winnipeg; brother Charles Martin of Winnipeg; niece Holly Martin of Edmonton; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Dean was born
in Brandon on January 27, 1960. He attended the Manitoba School for the Deaf where he graduated. He was employed by the Manitoba Government service for over 17 years. The family wishes to extend many thanks to the H.S.C. staff on H4 and H6, Bonnie Dubienski, IIRS staff and Pastor Edward Capner for their care and support. Dean's charming smile will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. MARLYNN MATSUKUBO
MARLYNN ISABEL MATSUKUBO (nee MAXWELL) Peacefully, on the evening of Saturday, November 20, 2004, Marlynn passed away in her home at the age of 66 years young. Sadly, Marlynn has been significantly impacted by her illness (pulmonary fibrosis) for the last few years. Without failing, Marlynn was able to quietly and courageously adjust her life at every new obstacle placed in front of her. Any word or thought of complaint or self pity would be fleeting and would quickly fade away because of Marlynn's inner strength and calm resolve. Marlynn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Brian; sons, Blair (Sheryl) and Brent Little; mother Audrey Maxwell; sisters, Sheila Rusu and Diana Pacak (Stan); nephews, Randy Rusu and Andrew Archuk; nieces, Shannon Foster, Heather Eisner, Stacey, Tara and Ashley Archuk; and stepsons, Jeffrey (Shelley) and children and Jamie Matsukubo. She was predeceased by her father Alf. Born in Rivers, MB on April 28, 1938, Marlynn and her family moved to Somerset, MB in 1940. In 1948, the family moved to Emerson, MB, where Marlynn received her high school education. She later attended United College and the Success Business College. Marlynn's first job was with Ogilve Mills, followed by a period with the Manitoba Pool Elevators. Various placements within the Manitoba Civil Service followed, including assignments with Management Committee of Cabinet and the Provincial Auditor's Office (PAO). She maintained a close contact with many of her coworkers over the years, even when career moves took friends to other provinces. More recently, Marlynn enjoyed the friendship of several of her PAO coworkers, extending into her retirement years through their regularly arranged luncheon get togethers. Latterly, Marlynn very much enjoyed the renewed friendships she was able to have with her school year friends (also known as the "Emerson Gang"). She certainly loved all the get togethers and special events with her friends. Special thanks to Joy, Marilyn, Julia, Rosalind, Bridget, Al and all their spouses. Marlynn will be sorely missed. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She had a quick and open smile for everyone. We shared a private joke about how readily strangers would approach her and strike up a conversation or simply ask for help. Marlynn enjoyed the simple things life offered, her quiet time working on knitting or sewing projects; puzzles of all sorts; and her many ceramic creations. Marlynn loved to bake and to work in the yard and garden. Even the tough jobs like spring and fall raking were her pleasure. She loved to work around the home and enjoyed jobs like painting and wall papering. It was always interesting to come home and to discover what her latest change would be. Marlynn enjoyed a wide range of activities and the company of good friends through bowling, curling, golf, bridge and social dining. At this time, our grief may be overwhelming but it is slowly replaced by our happier recollections of our time with Marlynn. In compliance with Marlynn's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the exceptional assistance and kindness provided by the nursing professionals from Health Links, Home Care and the Palliative Program, our thanks to Lora, Pat, Myrna and Chris. The family also wishes to thank Marlynn's longtime family doctor, Dr. Oscar Domke and to Susie Nelson (Snips and Shears) for their care and special attention. DANIEL JOSEPH McKAY January 28, 1957 - November 19, 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel McKay (Danny) on Friday, November 19, 2004 at the age of 47 years, at the Grace Hospital. Danny was predeceased by his dad Antoine, brother Hector and infant sister Freda, and by numerous other relatives. Danny will be sadly missed by his mom Anita (nee Beauregard); sister Barbara (Roland); brothers, Glen (Denise), Brian (Sonia), Randell (Trish); sister-in-law Kim; and by many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. Danny worked for the Department of Highways in Elie, MB for 28 years. Danny enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. His greatest love of all was his mother Anita whom he lovingly referred to as "The Boss". MARC MONFORTON, OMI It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother Marc, at the age of 72, on November 20, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer and heart problems, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Predeceased by parents, Romeo (1954) and Lily (Ryan) (1984); brothers, Nelson (1990), Leo (1997); sister-in-law Estelle (1996); brothers-in-law, Joe Grady (1991) and Paul Langlois (1999); and nephew Chris (1989). Fr. Marc is survived by brothers, Lloyd (Luce), Orval (Mignonne), Roy (Florence) and Jim (Doris), all of Riviere-aux-Canards; sisters, Mary Jane Grady of Kinnebank, MB, Marguerite Reeb of Sarnia, ON, Cecilia and Leona Langlois; as well as sister-in-law Carmel of Riviere-aux Canards. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins, in particular cousin Larry Monforton and wife Joan of Stonewall, MB. Many friends will grieve his passing (as will his co-pastors, especially Fr. J.P. Isabelle, OMI). Fr. Marc was ordained as a priest in the Order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, at St. Joseph's Church, Riviere-aux-Canards in 1959 by Bishop Nelligan. His ministry as an Oblate took him to many postings in Northern Ontario and Manitoba, ending with St. Patrick's Church in Winnipeg. PHILLIP THOMAS NEWTON 1957 - 2004 Phillip Thomas Newton, beloved husband of Marilyn Newton, of Airdrie passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the age of 47 years. Phillip was born
on August 3, 1957 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England. He immigrated to Canada at a young age, growing up in Brandon, MB. Phillip married Marilyn on September 23, 1989. He was employed for over twenty years with Pepsi Cola in Winnipeg, MB, until being transferred to Calgary in 1993 and taking up residence in Airdrie. Phillip was active in his community, especially in hockey, either as a scorekeeper or just being a fan. He was very involved in his children's activities, giving selflessly of his time to be with his family. Camping trips to the Okanagan were one of Phillip's favourite activities. Besides his loving wife, Marilyn, Phillip is survived by two sons, Kyle and Scott; a brother and sister-in-law, Grahame and Elaine Newton of Calgary; a sister Elizabeth Mudray and partner Rick Fontaine of Saskatoon, SK; two brothers-in-law, Michael Mudray of Brandon, MB, and Marty and Wendy Olson of Stonewall, MB. He is also survived by four nephews, Devin (Heather) of Winnipeg, MB, Sean (Lindsey) of Calgary, and Kristopher and Bradley Olson of Stonewall, MB; and two nieces, Tara (Steve) of Vancouver, BC, and Aimee of Naniamo, BC. Phillip will also be dearly missed by his family in England - cousins Shirley, Lynn and husband Andrew Rutter, and his Uncle Harold and Aunt Pat. Phillip was predeceased by his parents Violet and Walter. STANLEY OLSON Peacefully on November 21, 2004 in Surrey, BC. Stan was born
on September 11, 1916 in Langruth, MB. He served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. Stan worked for Eaton's in Winnipeg, MB for almost 40 years before retiring and moving to BC. He was a quiet, gentle man who was admired by all who met and knew him. Stan is survived by his wife Lillian of 59 years; two daughters Linda and Judy; four grandsons, Scott, Clint, David and Eric; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his seven brothers and his granddaughter Carrie. Following cremation, interment will take place in Langruth, MB with immediate family. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margery Joan; his son William Craig and wife Lois; his five granddaughters, Kim, Karole (Mark), Katherine, Kimberly and Jacalyn; his sisters, Eleanor Conn and Marjorie (Lloyd) Lovell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his daughter Linda Joan Robinson in 1989; his parents, Violet and Gus; and brother-in-law Ken Conn. Bill was born
on December 12, 1922 in Waterloo, ON, and moved with his family to Winnipeg at the age of six. Bill served in the Air Force during the Second World War and was employed in management with Labatts for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. Bill loved spending time with family and friends. He always looked forward to his fishing trips with his buddies. Bill was an avid reader and sports fan. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks of Canada Lodge No. 10 and enjoyed the fellowship with his brother Elks. Bill also looked forward to his Tuesday evening bridge with his friends and neighbours at Woodhaven Park. We will remember Bill for his quiet disposition, his sound advise, and wisdom. He had a special love for his granddaughters and was very proud of their accomplishments. KRISTEN ALEXANDER ROOKS Tragically Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Swan River, MB Kristen passed away at the age of 31 years. Kristen will be sadly and lovingly missed by his mother and father, Vivian and Ray; sisters, Shannon (Ward) and Colleen (Steven); and brother Hayden; and Grandfather Alex. Also left to cherish his memory his aunts and uncles. Sharon, Bill (Phyllis), Mona (Larry), Brent (Paulina), Brian (Zoe), Jack (Carrol), Keith (Roxanne), Rhonda, Colleen (Max), Wendy (Richard), Neil (Mary-Ellen), Elaine (Carmen), as well as many cousins, and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Alice and Jack Thompson and grandmother Effie Rooks. Kristen was born
into a horse-loving family at Swan River, August 18, 1973. He graduated with honours from the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School in 1991. He obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture degree majoring in crop science from the University of Manitoba in 2002. Kristen recently obtained his Certified Crop Advisor Certificate. Kristen worked for various Manitoba and Saskatchewan trucking companies. Many miles were travelled throughout Canada and the United States. While he attended university full-time, he also worked on a full-time basis driving truck. Kristen's expertise was working in the agribusiness field where his great mind for numbers was an asset. This led to his current job as a Farm Marketing Representative for Cargill Aghorizons since April 2002. Kristen truly enjoyed this position due to the interaction with people and the challenges of marketing. Kristen had many interests and hobbies. He liked reading in his spare time. He was a director of the Swan Valley Agricultural Society where he volunteered many hours of his time. He had also recently purchased his first home, and was busy making improvements to the property. Sports were a major part of Kristen's life. He played hockey, and followed sports closely. You could always count on Kristen to know the score of last night's game. Kristen followed in his grandfather and his father's footsteps racing horses. He travelled throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta racing chuckwagon. Kristen also made a trip in 2002 to race at the Fort Worth Stock Show in Texas. Kristen was also the official judge and starter for the Manitoba Pony Chariot and Chuckwagon Association. He was a fair judge that called penalties as he saw them. Kristen and his horse Gus were well known throughout the racing circuit. Kristen took great pride in his work, hobbies, and his family. Even though he was fiercely competitive and often stubborn, he was known as a gentle person who genuinely cared for others. He had a unique sense of humour and could always be relied on for a witty remark. His generosity and dedication to his friends and family will be sadly missed. "We love you Kristen, and we will miss you." An evening visitation will be held on Tuesday November 23, 7:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services in Swan River, MB.
