RONALD GORDON

RONALD MERVIN GORDON 1937 - 2004 With profound sadness we must announce the all-too-soon passing of Ron Gordon from this life into the next on December 5, 2004. He will be lovingly remembered for his unshakeable positive spirit and steadfast dedication to family and friends. A devoted and caring husband, dad, brother, grandfather and uncle, he will be mourned but never forgotten by beloved wife Pat; children, Keith and Donna (Kelly Leveille); sister Carole (Neil Reeves); grandson Alex; brother-in-law Gordon MacLeod; nieces, Sheila, Heather and Cathy; nephews, Neil and Alex; and many friends. His parents, Wilfred and Velma Gordon (Donogh); and in-laws, Angus and Evelyn MacLeod predeceased Ron. Ron was born icon September 11, 1937 in Griswold but raised in Oak Lake. He graduated civil engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1959, then joined the Department of Highways where he would happily remain nearly 40 years until retirement. While there, Ron met the woman who would be the love of his life, Patricia MacLeod, a registered nurse with Manitoba Health. They married December 28, 1963 and settled in Swan River. They adopted son Keith in 1969 and moved to Winnipeg where they were blessed with daughter Donna in 1972. Pat stayed home with the kids while Ron oversaw highways around Winnipeg. (District 12). Ron built a cottage near his parents where all would spend many happy summers. Ron enjoyed quiet time away from the city to putter about working on the cottage and relaxing. He was good with his hands, always fixing or crafting things such as his computer desk. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and an usher at Silver Heights United Church. Ron was an avid hockey fan who shared season tickets to the Jets since the team's inception. He and Keith were also Bomber fans. Ron enjoyed baseball, attending Goldeyes games with Pat and playing catch with his kids. He was a curler on two teams until last winter when he transferred from active duty to cheering brigade. Ron loved to travel, be it down the street for coffee with friends, out to roadwork sites for work, or around the world with family. He believed travel is broadening, and those he took are much richer in spirit and memories for having shared in Ron's wonderful journeys. Ron was proud of Donna when she graduated university to become a teacher, but even happier when she married the man she loved, Kelly, a few years later. He was proud of Keith for achieving his MBA degree, but was happier still when Keith found a job he loved. Recently, Ron had been experiencing added joy with the arrival of grandson Alex. Dad possessed the methodical temperament to be a great engineer, but also the good humour and patience to be an outstanding husband and father. He was a man of exceptional integrity, wisdom, kindness, compassion and love who made friends with all he met. Mere words cannot express our love or how fortunate we were to have had Ron in our lives. We have all experienced his joyous spirit and learned so much from him in his time here on earth that Ron cannot be taken from us, for he is permanently etched in the souls of everyone who knew and loved him. Ron's memorial marker will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron's memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot, 774-5501 or Silver Heights United Church Memorial Fund, 199 Garrioch, 832-6071.
