LAWRENCE KROCKER

LAWRENCE ROBERT KROCKER It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lawrence (Larry) Krocker, who died with his parents by his side on December 8, 2004. Larry fought a lengthy battle with cancer and made the courageous decision to accept the inevitability of death, dying with dignity, at peace with himself and his God. Larry was born icon on June 15, 1948, in Oliver, BC and moved to Winnipeg in the spring of 1950. He spent most of his school aged years in Transcona and Charleswood. He described his childhood as a happy one. He loved to talk about his antics in the classroom and enjoyed his many visits with his extended family in Broadview, SK. As a young adult, Larry loved adventure and enjoyed taking on new challenges including whitewater rafting and helicopter skiing. Laurie also liked to spend quieter times with his parents. Together they built cottages at Black Sturgeon Lake and enjoyed visiting with one another. Larry also had a love of music, playing the guitar and piano for his own pleasure and at social gatherings. Larry moved to Oakbank in 1985 with his wife Linda and son Christopher. Shortly after the move, his daughter Jenny was born. Larry spent many happy years in Oakbank building a home and barn, playing polo, caring for his family and spending time with his neighbours. During that period, he changed professions, moving from human resource management to senior administration. The highlight of his career was his work as the Superintendent of Milner Ridge Correctional Institution. Larry assumed a leadership role in establishing the facility and was responsible for all aspects of its operation. He loved working with Milner Ridge staff, many of whom stayed in touch with Larry after he left the facility. Their support and friendship and that of other colleagues, meant a lot to him. Larry will be sadly missed by his parents, Lawrence Krocker and Dorothy Krocker (nee Merkel); his children, Chris and Jenny and their mother, Linda; and her parents, Herbert and Beverly Butcher. He leaves to mourn his sister Carol Miller who he enjoyed spending time with, especially during his illness. He will also be missed by Carol's husband Cory Miller; their sons, Darrin, Darnell and Jason and their families; his nephew Colin and his family; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Larry was blessed with many friends who were important to him throughout his life and who cared for him and visited him during his illness. He was grateful for these friendships, including those with Ben and Erna Thiessen; Darlene and Jeff Anderson; Elaine and Dana Elliott; Barbara, John, Catherine, Maria and Kristen Bromilow; and Carol Robson all of whom played a special part in his life. In the last few years, Larry was also grateful for the support of the people from the Faith Covenant Church, including the support and spiritual leadership of Gerald Froese who helped Larry accept God's love. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team who supported Larry in St. Boniface Hospital and in the community. Special thanks are extended to Mark Sheppard and Louis Dansereau. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Larry's life will take place at the Faith Covenant Church, 1229 Windemere Ave. on Monday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to building housing and provide for 25 orphaned children in Balanga/Bataan Philippines. FLORENCE LA ROQUE

FLORENCE EVELYN LA ROQUE (nee MOGGEY) March 7, 1923 - December 6, 2004 Mom peacefully succumbed to Alzheimer's on December 6, 2004 at Riverview Health Care Centre on B1. She was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd (July 20, 1997); her parents Emma and Russell Moggey; her sisters, Joyce Ferris, Doris Wells, Margaret McLachlan and Jean Blair. She is survived by her twin daughters, Laurane Simpson and Karen Williams (son-in-law Miles). Also surviving is her sister Ethel Magee (Bob); and brothers, Mel and Jack Moggey; and many relatives and friends. Mom was born icon and raised in the Wawanesa area. She joined the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) in February 1943. In October 1945 Mom and Dad married and settled in the Riverview area, where they raised their twin girls and lived all their married life. Mom worked for doctors, Grant, Doel, McGowan, Owens and Valentine for several years and then went on to help Dr. A Kati establish his practice in St. Vital when he came to Canada. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Fort Rouge Legion (Branch #97). What can we say about our Mom...She was: caring, loving, loyal friend, and protector of the underdog. We were extremely proud of the way Mom fought for those who couldn't fight back, and we hope that some of these traits were instilled in us. It was devastating when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 1996. She succeeded in keeping her dignity and appearance, which wasn't always easy. A thank you to all of those who worked so hard with us to achieve this. You know who you are! Bless you, Carol, for all the personal phone calls....you always steered us in the right direction. A heartfelt thank you to Mom's oldest friends - Beth and Doug Cook, and her newest friends - Ruth and Dan Geauvreau for their never-ending love and devotion they've shown to Mom over the years... especially the last nine. Special thanks to Riverview's H.M.O's for their professional attention, advice and compassion and B1 Staff. Finally...Gerri Borowski! There aren't enough words to thank you for all the advice you gave to us throughout the years. We'll never forget your kindness! Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Flo's memory to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, B1 at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 9Z9, or CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. JOHN MONTGOMERY

JOHN D. (JACK) MONTGOMERY Q.C. It is with profound sadness that Jack's family announces his passing on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at age 77. He is survived by his loving wife Jennifer, brother Robert (Dixie Anne), sister Dorothy Cameron (George), brothers-in-law Bill and George Marchuk, sister-in-law Mary Chernesky and their families. Born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), the son of missionary parents, the family moved to Toronto when Jack was in his early years. He was educated in Toronto and attended law school both at Osgood Hall and the University of Manitoba. He received his call to the Bar in 1960 and articled with the Winnipeg Law Firm of Fillmore and Riley. Jack joined the Department of Justice in 1962 and became one of the leading prosecutors in Manitoba. For decades he prosecuted the most serious criminal cases. He served as Chief Prosecutor for the City of Winnipeg and developed a special bond with many police officers which lasted long after his retirement. He subsequently became Director of Criminal Prosecutions and General Counsel in the Department of Justice. Jack developed a unique personal style, which on many occasions mesmerized all persons in the courtroom. He had a mischievous sense of humour and together with his great presence and marvellous command of the language he earned the affectionate title "Hollywood Jack". In both his personal and professional life Jack was a true gentleman. He was kind and compassionate and always ready to lend a helping hand. He treated all people with dignity. In return, he earned the respect of all who came in contact with him. He had a strong sense of justice, great empathy for victims of crime and high ethical standards, all of which he displayed in his role as Crown Prosecutor. Upon retirement, he remained active and became the successful author of three books which covered major criminal cases that he had prosecuted. Unfortunately, Jack was not able to finish his last book which dealt with the murder of a Winnipeg Police Officer. Jack was loved and admired by many and will be very much missed by family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jack's life will take place at Westminster United Church, Maryland and Westminster, on Friday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. For further information call Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 885-9715.
