Inshaw, Reginald
June 01, 2001

The Very Reverend Reginald Inshaw, Priest in Charge of the Anglican Catholic Church of Holy Trinity and St. Jude, age 94 years, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2001 in the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur Campus. Born in Birmingham, England on May 20, 1907, he emigrated to Canada in 1929. In January, 1938, he married May Thomas with whom he recently celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary. His formal education was completed in England, and his Divinity studies were at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto. Active in the church all his life, as a choirboy in England and lay reader in Canada, he was made deacon in 1951 and ordained priest in April, 1952. His parishes included Muskoka, Schreiber, Nipigon area, Onaping, Cobourg and Thunder Bay. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife May; 3 children: John and wife Carol, Philip and wife Pat, Lois and husband Kenneth George Horton; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 4th at 1:00 PM when family and friends will gather in the Anglican Catholic Church of Holy Trinity and St. Jude, 830 Spring Street off Pacific Avenue, with Rev. Alan Edwardson officiating. Services will conclude in the church as cremation will follow with a private Service of Committal at Riverside Cemetery. Removal will be made from the Sargent & Son Funeral Home to the church where visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Sunday. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Anglican Catholic Church of Holy Trinity and St. Jude would be appreciated.

Bolduc, Rita
June 01, 2001

Mrs. Rita Yvonne Bolduc, age 85 years of 177 Winnipeg Avenue, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Friday, June 1st, 2001. Born in Chapleau, Ontario, she came to Thunder Bay as a young woman. She served as a Trainer with the Red Cross during World War 2. She was District Manager for Beauty Counsellor Products. She served as President of St. Joseph's Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and as President of the Ladies Club at the Thunder Bay Country Club. Rita enjoyed times spent at 55 Plus Centre where she was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed times spent in the out-of-doors and was an avid gardener and enjoyed wood-working. She was a member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and the Catholic Women's League. Her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest loves. She will be lovingly remembered by her son James and daughter-in-law Marilyn, grandchildren Lorilee (Craig) Morton and Regan Bolduc, 3 great grandchildren Victoria Bolduc and Dane and Keir Morton. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by her husband Wallace Francis Bolduc on August 26th, 1992, son Conrad in infancy, grandson James Bolduc Jr. on November 11th, 1998 and by numerous brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5th when family and friends will gather at Corpus Christi R.C. Church for funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. P.M. Stilla, V.F. (All services will be complete in the church)A private interment will take place in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers should friends so desire memorials to the Canadian National Institute For The Blind would be greatly appreciated. (Arrangements entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 North Court Street).

DONALD SIMEON ANDERSON

1949-2001
It is with sadness that the family announces his passing at his home in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan on May 21, 2001 from a heart attack. He is survived by his loving wife and friend, Susan, his daughter Laura, sons Ian, Jeff and Scott, his parents Ronald and Margaret Anderson, his brother Stuart (Penny) Anderson, his sister Donna (Peter) Kulyna, his grandmother Gladys Claxton and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. Don worked at Manitoba Pool while he lived at the Lakehead. Donald was born icon in Wadena, Saskatchewan and it is there that he was laid to rest. The funeral was widely attended by his wife and children, parents, brother and sister, his uncle Ron Claxton from Alliston, ON, Cousins Ron Claxton Jr. from Calgary and Don Claxton from Vancouver, Debbie and Jack Taggart from LaRonge and Ray Huyke from Markham, ON. A large number of workers from Agro of Moose Jaw where Don worked, also attended. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped in anyway.

Ahtila, Rosemarie M.
July 02, 2001

Mrs. Rosemarie M. Ahtila, age 57 years, a resident of 74 Oswald Street, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (General) on Saturday, June 30th, 2001 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Port Arthur, her home, family and grandchildren were her main interests. She loved life and especially enjoyed bowling, golf, ballroom dancing and trips to Grande Portage.
Rosemarie is survived by Waino, her husband of thirty-nine years; daughter Elaine Forbes and son Richard (Shawn) both of Thunder Bay; three granddaughters: Amanda, Meagan and Farren Forbes; brother Henry Swanson; five sisters: Elizabeth Hilverda, Rita Swanson, Phyllis Ashcroft all of British Columbia, Agnes Jacobson and Dorothy Dulude of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Swanson and sister Irene.
In keeping with Rosemarie’s wishes, Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 5th in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, with interment in Riverside Cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Rosemarie’s memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.

Miochich, James Philip
1915 - 2001

Mr. James (Jim) Philip Miocich, formerly of McKenzie, passed away peacefully in his sleep in St. Joseph’s Hospital, two weeks after his 86th birthday. Born in Westfort, his family moved to Port Arthur and then to McKenzie in 1933, where they built and operated the McKenzie Inn for 63 years. During the Second World War, he served in the Canadian Army in various locations in Canada. Upon his discharge, he returned to the family business, where he worked until 1995. Jim was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Arthur Branch #5, St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, and was an Honorary 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. With the help of a group of friends, for many years he organized a “fun run” from McKenzie to Lambert Island and back, in support of the Terry Fox Run for the Canadian Cancer Society, and over the years they raised over $100,000! Jim is survived by his sisters, Lucy Miocich of Thunder Bay, and Irene Paulin of Beamsville, Ontario; niece Mary Paulin of Brampton; great niece Kathy Paulin-Lougheed (husband Allan) of Oakville; and niece Odette Paulin of Beamsville. Predeceased by his parents Nick and Alexandra Miocich, sister Agnes in 1995, and nephew James Paulin in 1997. Funeral services for the late Mr. Jim Miocich will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2001 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverely Street at Algoma at 9:40 AM to St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church for Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Rev. Scott Gale. The Royal Canadian Legion Port Arthur Branch #5 will hold their Honour Service at the church. Services complete in the church with cremation to follow, and final interment of Ashes will take place in the family plot in St. Andrews Cemetery at a later time. Visitation for friends will be from 4:00P.M. Friday in the Everest Chapel, with Prayers offered at 7:00 PM, and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus holding vigil.
A donation has been made to St. Joseph’s Care Group in honour of Mr. James (Jim) Philip Miocich by Everest of Thunder Bay.

PERRIER

Mr. Philip Maurice Perrier, age 34 years, passed lovingly into the arms of God after a tragic swimming accident in Estevan Saskatchewan on Thursday July 19, 2001. Philip attended St. Vincent Catholic school, Churchill High School and graduated from Confederation College with an Advanced Welding & Fabricating Diploma. Phil worked on various construction jobs in the Thunder Bay District. Phil pursued job opportunities in Estevan SK with the Boiler Makers Union local 555. Once his expertise was in demand, he started his own business "Advance Welding & Fabricating" where he was sub-contracted under Carsons in the Oil Patch. He enjoyed life to the fullest, spending time in his yard and garden with his dog Harley, working in his garage "the lab", golf, and supporting his son’s hockey team. Phil, Lori and Justin enjoyed camping with family and friends, especially at the Mohr family reunion where he instigated the annual shooter night. Phil was also a skilled handy man and prankster! A loving Son, family man and friend to all and will be sorrowfully missed but never forgotten. Philip is survived by his fiancée Lori, son Justin Mohr, Estevan, his parents Maurice and JoAnne, Thunder Bay, sister Laura(Dennis) Baranuik and niece Blair Baranuik, Thunder Bay, and Baba, Anna Baryluk, Thunder Bay. His future father and mother-in-law Alvinand Sharon Mohr, Carievale, Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephew, future brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends also survive. He was predeceased by his Dido, John Baryluk, grandparents, Eva and Ernest Perrier, uncle Ed Perrier. A prayer service was held in St. John the Baptist Church in Estevan on Wednesday July 25, 2001. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday July 31, 2001 in St. Agnes’ Church at 12:10 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Francis Pudicherry. A private interment will take place at a later date. If friends desire memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Philip Perrier in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual Dedication service Sunday, June 23, 2002

Mielonen, Jorma
July 27, 2001

Mr. Jorma A. Mielonen, age 82 years, a resident of 120 South Cumberland Street, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, on Friday, July 27, 2001. Born in Kalajoki, Finland, Jorma came to Canada and Port Arthur in 1934. In his early years, he was employed in mining and latterly as a cutter at various bush camps.
He is survived by one brother Waino and his wife Ruth of Thunder Bay and other relatives in Finland. He was predeceased by two brothers, Arvo and Onni and a sister Saimi in Finland.
According to Jorma’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Luncheon will be held on Sunday, June 29 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Harbourview Funeral Centre Reception Hall. Private interment will take place in the Family Plot at Riverside Cemetery.

Allan, Muriel
July 27, 2001

Mrs. Muriel Allan (Meloche), age 91 years, resident of Thunder Bay died on Wednesday July 25, 2001. Born in Port Arthur in 1910, she attended schools in Rosslyn and Port Arthur. Muriel was employed at Eatons in Fort William and Palm Dairies prior to her and her husband operating a confectionery and health food store on Victoria Avenue until retirement in 1977. Muriel was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Church and CWL. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents George and Rosanne, her husband Archie in 1992, sisters Yvonne Vondrasek, Bernice Geeson, Audrey Rodgers and brothers Leo (Marge),Wilfred and Phenix. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Kowalchuk of St. Elizabeth’s Church officiating. Services will be complete in the Chapel with a private interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Muriel Allan in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday June 23, 2002.

Pientok, hanna
July 27, 2001

Hanna, Margarete Pientok, age 81 years, resident of 633 Vale Crescent, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital Saturday July 21, 2001. Born in Quedlinburg, Germany April 21, 1920, Hanna emigrated to Canada with three children to join her husband Karl in Fort William in 1952. She was very proud of her family who were most important in her life. She enjoyed talking to her friends, frequently listened to classical music and loved to travel. Hanna is survived by daughters Margot (Conrad) Waibel and Rosemarie Oldale Surrey, British Columbia (here), son Karl Pientok and daughter-in-law Arlene Pientok, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Karl of 50 years on July 01, 1992, son Gregor Pientok on October 15, 1994 and grandson James in infancy. According to Hanna’s wishes a private service and cremation have taken place.
A tree will be planted in memory of Hanna Pientok in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual Dedication service Sunday, June 23, 2002

Hogan, Angela
July 27, 2001

Angela (Lena) Hogan, age 65 years, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur site, after many years of poor health. A native of California, USA she came to Thunder Bay as a young woman and made her home here since. Predeceased by infant son Stephen James, her parents Matteo and Virginia, brother Liglio, sister Virginia. Survived by son Tim, daughter-in-law Helen, grandchildren Spencer and Rileigh, daughter Tracy Davidson, son-in-law Grant, much loved grandaughter Hailey Marie and sons Terry of Timmins and Todd of Toronto. Also survived by sister Eldie, brother-in-law Bruno, niece Elaine, husband Bob and their son Nick, all residing in California. A memorial service for Angela Hogan will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 the day of the service. If friends desire, donations to the Northwestern Cancer Centre would be appreciated. A private family interment will take a place at a later date.

Zumsky, Effie
July 27, 2001

Mrs. Effie Zumsky passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Westmount Hospital with her daughters at her side. Effie was born icon on February 6, 1915 in Rosslyn Village and moved to Slate River as a small baby. She moved back to Rosslyn after her marriage to Tam Zumsky. They were married for 52 years. Effie worked at various jobs but for the longest with the M.N.R. Tree Nursery where she made numerous lifelong friends including Fran, Pearl, Ruth, Edith and Rosie who were known as the first gang. Effie retired in 1980 and enjoyed baking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a founding member of Pinegrove United Church as well as the Rosslyn Women’s Institute. She loved her Wednesday Night Bingo’s, her bus trips and watching the Blue Jays and her Toronto Maple Leafs on TV. Tam and Effie raised three daughters; Lorrainne (Russ) Bright, Olive (David) Mayo and Donna Lee (Paul) LeCuyer. Effie had eight grandchildren; Denise of Calgary, AB, Jason Bright of Mountainview, California, Richelle (Scott) Dougall, Connie (Shea) Lambert of Cambridge, enroute, Stacey, Eva Marie, John and Steven LeCuyer. One great grandson, William Dougall, a sister-in-law Elsie Fulton and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Effie was predeceased by her husband Tam on October 19, 1992, also her parents, sister Mabel and brothers Art, John, Bill and Clyde. A celebration of Effie’s life will be held on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Pinegrove United Church with Rev. Jack White officiating. Interment will take place at Stanley Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.

Minnervuo, Martta
July 30, 2001

Mrs. Martta Minnervuo, age 80 years, a former resident of McKibbon Street, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-General on Friday, July 27, 2001.
Born in Lappeenranta, Finland, she came to Canada in 1957. Martta was a longtime employee at numerous bush camps as a cookee in Sudbury, Thunder Bay district and Graham area, also for a short time at the Main Cafe on Cumberland Street. Her home and her garden were Martta’s main interests, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Martta is survived by her two daughters: Pirjo (Ken) Biloski of Thunder Bay and Pirkko (Esko) Virtanen in Finland; two sons: Pertti (Wilma) and Vesa all of Vancouver, BC; four grandchildren: Kenny, Kevin, Tiina and Seppo and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews in Finland. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Toivo in 1953 and five brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 31st at 11:00am in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Frank Maunula. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Martta’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes. Association.

Carmichael, Thomas Elliot
July 30, 2001

Mr. Thomas Elliot Carmichael, age 78 years of Versa Care and formerly of 72 Balsam Street, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, July 27th, 2001 following a lengthy illness. Born in Dumphrees, Scotland on September 5th, 1922 he was the son of the lat Peter and Agnes Carmichel. Tom came to his new home in Sedgwick, Alberta at a very young age where his parents took up homesteading. In his teens Tom came to Thunder Bay and worked at the Cancar to help with the war effort. Following the war , Tom worked with local Ford dealership. He married the former Gloria Charles and together they brought four sons in the world and resided at their present home on Balsam Sreet. He worked as Parts Manager with Pinewood Motors until his retirement in 1987. Tom's main focus was his home and family. He enjoyed photography , gardening, golf, watching baseball, hockey and car racing. He was predeceased by his parents Peter Anderson Carmichael and Agnes Mae Carmichael, sister Mary McEwan in 1977, sons Thomas George Carmichael in 1998 and Craig Elliot Carmichael in 1994. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gloria, sons Stanley P. Carmichael and Richard G. Carmichael, his four grand-children, brother Joe Carmichael and sister-in-law Phylis of Calgary Alberta, sister-in-law Marilyne Bolduc and brother-in-law Jim Bolduc of Thunder Bay. Tom made many friends and acquaintances through his many years at Pinewood Mercury and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Gloria of 52 years and sons Stanley & Richard and families. Funeral services for the late Thomas Carmichael will be held on Tuesday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Canon John Jordan officiating. (All services complete in the chapel). Visitation for friends will be from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Society or to the charity of choice.
