Adderley, John (Jack)
June 17, 2002

It is with great sadness the family of John (Jack) Adderley age 71 announces his peaceful passing with family by his side on Saturday, June 15, 2002. Jack was born icon in Port Arthur on November 25, 1930 to Charles and Hazel (Sullivan). Jack attended Port Arthur Collegiate and Lakehead Technical Institute where he graduated as a Forestry Technician and was very proud to be the recipient of the Poulin trophy (leading citizen chosen by students and staff) and also the Clark trophy (for best all-round athlete). After a short work period Jack enrolled in the University of New Brunswick , graduating with a B.Sc. in Forestry in 1956. Jack began his career as a student with Abitibi Woodlands in 1947, holding various positions within the Company, living in Auden briefly, back to Thunder Bay, a short stint in Pine Falls, then returning to Thunder Bay with a further appointment as Woodlands Manager in 1981, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. Jack was a tower of strength for his family. Jack was a man of deep feelings and strong convictions who took pleasure in enjoying the simple things in life. An ardent outdoorsman, he enjoyed downhill and cross- country skiing and curling in winter, while gardening, fishing, golf, and sailing in the summer … as well as being a passionate bird watcher throughout the seasons. His fly-in fishing trips with great friends were a real joy to him and provided wonderful memories. His trips west to duck hunt with his beloved retriever Dusty and longtime friend John McLeod were treasured times, as well as partridge hunting alone along back roads in the fall. Jack was a member of the Port Arthur Rotary Club and looked forward to his weekly lunch meetings with his many friends. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Church, the Thunder Bay Country Club, Abitibi Quarter Century Club, Canadian Institute of Forestry, Mount Baldy Ski Club, Thunder Bay Field Naturalists, Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and several others. A "forever" fan of the Maple Leafs, his lifelong pal Wally Zaremsky will miss the Saturday night phone calls. Jack of course found much happiness and contentment at his lifelong second home at MacKenzie Beach.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sally, his son Jeffrey and daughters Pamela (Patrick Dixon) and Barbara (Wendy Heron). He was very proud to be called poppa by grandchildren Michaela (Day) and Teslyn, Leeland, and Kelton (Adderley-Heron). Jack is also survived by his sister Lorraine Black (Neil), sister-in-law Shirley Milligan (John), sister-in-law Fran Adderley, stepsister Elaine Piccinin (Oliver), stepbrother Jim Aitken (Karen) and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
