George Carlyle

GEORGE JAMES CARLYLE 1919 - 2001 With sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, George Carlyle. At the age of 81 our father known to many as "Red or Ginger" passed away peacefully on January 24, 2001 at the Grace Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Dad leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (nee Ames); and their children, Richard (Christine), David (Terry), Gwen Hink (Cameron), and Pam Pullen (Rick); and his grandchildren, Kim (husband Jeff), Stephen, Tim, Krista, Courtney, Nadine, Naomi, Stephanie, Andrew and Sean. Also surviving is his brother Cliff Carlyle in Salmon Arm, BC., brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. George was born icon in Moose Jaw, SK. Joined the RCAF in 1940-45 as an Air Mechanic, serving overseas for much of the war. Post-war, George re-enlisted in 1947 and served with the RCAF Air Command Band (Trumpet), retiring in 1970 at the rank of Sergeant. Planning for his retirement, Dad prepared for his second career by achieving his A.A.C.I., with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. After retiring from the military, he worked in the Appraisal Department at the City of Winnipeg from 1970 to 1982. After reaching his official retirement age in 1982, he remained active in several associations and got great joy out of teaching music to most of his grandchildren. Music (Big Band/Jazz) was Dad's great love and it pleased him that he was able to pass his skill and love of music onto his children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd (17 Wing Chapel), 2235 Silver Ave. (off Whytewold Road). We wish to thank the Palliative Care staff at the Grace General Hospital for their loving care of our Dad and all the friends and volunteer visitors who spent special time with him. Should friends so desire, donations in George's memory can be made to CancerCare, 675 McDermot St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9; or to the Grace Hospital Palliative Care Program, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Dad will be missed but fondly remembered by all. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1858 Portage Avenue 949-4872
