Ebba Rowley

EBBA VICTORIA ROWLEY (nee BACKLUND) August 10, 1914 - January 23, 2001 On January 23, 2001 at the Lundar Personal Care Home, after a lengthy battle with emphysema, Ebba Victoria Rowley, aged 86 years of Lundar, Manitoba. Mon was born icon at home August 10, 1914 on the family farm near Eriksdale, Manitoba. She attended school at Lily Bay and graduated from Eriksdale Collegiate. Mom and Dad were married April 14, 1936 and moved to Lundar where they raised two children and resided most of their lives. She loved spending time with her family, her horse King, playing the violin, and gardening. She could always be found attending to her beautiful flowers and vegetable garden. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and knitting. She will always be lovingly remembered by her daughter Edith Larcombe (Brent); great-grandson Matthew; grandson Leon Brandson (Bobbi), their children, Dustan and Ashley; grandson Cory Brandson (Kim), their children, Mandy and Nathan; granddaughter Amanda Stevenson (David), their children, Sarah, Daniel and Theresa; granddaughter Brandy Harding (Winston); one sister Edith Backlund; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Elida and Jonas Backlund; husband William (Jack); infant son William; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Ramon Brandson; brothers, Elof, Ed and Ernie; sisters, Ester B., Evilyn Garrity, Elna Olson, Emy Pederson and Ellen Woods. According to her wishes a private family funeral service will be held at the Lundar Lutheran Church with Rev. Donna J. Smalley officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Larcombe, David Stevenson, Leon Brandson, Cory Brandson, Winston Harding and Dick Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be everyone in attendance. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Lundar Personal Care Home, Dr. Steyn, Dr. Ward, Dr. Burnett and the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital staff. OLIVER G. RUPERT Mr. Oliver G. Rupert passed away with dignity, January 23, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Kaye; brothers, Roy, Cyril and Don; sisters, May and Merle; and his wife Joyce Anderson. Oliver leaves to cherish his memory his children, Cindy (Dan), Debbie (Walter) and Oliver (Tracy); grandchildren, Rochele, Corinne, Jeremy, Josh, Shawn, Quint, Quinton, Taylor, Skylar and Deserie; brothers, Wesley and Earl; sisters, Judy, Roberta and Joyce; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Oliver spent five years overseas in his youth, and came home to Victoria Beach. He and Dad got into the Mink Ranching business for many years. He had a great sense of humour you couldn't imagine, he loved his family dearly. We will miss you. Thy will be done in Jesus name. Amen. John Sanderson

JOHN GILBERT SANDERSON After a lengthy battle with cancer, John Gilbert Sanderson passed away on Monday, January 22, 2001 at the age of 57 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife Elizabeth; daughter Joanne (Roddy) Nobiss; three sons, Arthur (Valerie), Clinton and Donald; seven grandchildren, Wayne, Jenine, Roderick, Matthew, Ashley, Leslie and Nicholas; three sisters, Gloria Jones, Linda Miczusa and Rose Cooper; two brothers, Nelson and Gordon. There are numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 28 at 4:00 p.m. at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be on Monday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. also at the chapel with Fr. D. Kerbrat officiating. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. DORA SCHILE (VIELFAURE) Dora Schile of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Andrew Schile, passed away January 20, 2001 at the age of 72. Dora leaves to mourn five daughters; two brothers Alex (Terry), Armand (Juliette) Vielfaure; three sisters, Cleo Budd, Irene Landreville, Lorraine (Jake) Penner. A funeral mass was held on Tuesday, January 23 at St. Mary's Cathedral Roman Catholic Church.

DOREEN H. STEFANIUK Peacefully on January 25, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Doreen Stefaniuk passed away at the age of 62. Doreen will be sadly missed by her sons, Greg and Philip; sisters, Gladys (Ed) and Eileen (Michel); brothers, Brian (Cindy), Barry (Eunice); as well as many nieces and nephews. Doreen had an independent spirit facing many adversities and challenges in her lifetime. Physically disabled from the age of 17, Doreen lived life to the fullest by enjoying hobbies such as ceramics, sewing and swimming outings. For the past eight years, Doreen battled with cancer. Doreen's courage and positive outlook was an inspiration to her family and friends. Funeral service for Doreen will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. EVA PEARL STRAWSON On January 23, 2001, Eva Pearl Strawson, beloved wife of the late Leonard Strawson, passed away at the Central Park Lodge, 440 Edmonton Street. She was the mother of six girls, Margaret, Alice, Lora, Jean, Norma and Sylvia. She is remembered by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No service will be held. Dennis Sutton

DENNIS MIDDLETON SUTTON Peacefully on January 25, 2001 Dennis passed away after a lengthy illness, at the age of 83. Born in England, raised in Winnipeg, Dennis graduated high school and joined the Army. He was a gunner for Royal Canadian Artillery 55th Battery 19th field regiment during the Second World War. Dennis was employed at McMillan Bloedel in sales until his retirement in 1982. Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife Jean in 1998. He is survived by his daughter Kelly and son-in-law Wayne Tone; grandchildren, Sarah and Stefan; son Dennis Jr.; brothers, Ed and Allan; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Dennis's wishes, a private family service will take place. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Meadowood Manor for their excellent care. Trevor Tanchak

TREVOR TANCHAK Suddenly on January 25, 2001, Trevor Tanchak passed away at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 27 years. Trevor was born icon in Winnipeg on July 4, 1973. He is survived by his wife Carrie, and his son Dylan. He is also survived by his parents, Harry and Mary; his brother Todd (Kellie); his Baba Tkach; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, as well as his in-laws, Bob and Sharon Ernest; sisters-in-law, Jodie (Robert) and Sherrie, and nephews, Brandon and Justin. Trevor enjoyed hunting with Jay, Ryan, and Rene; fishing, golf with Marv and Carl, and most of all he enjoyed softball with his best friend Paul Jones. Trevor had been employed as a welder for Motorcoach Industries for the past seven years, where he enjoyed many scheduled and unscheduled coffee and lunch breaks with Scott. He was a proud hockey dad and enjoyed watching his son Dylan on the ice. The family extends special thanks to all the staff of the I.C.U. at the Grace Hospital, and especially to Bonnie and Doreen, Trevor's nurses. Funeral services for Trevor will be held at the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. in St. Boniface on Monday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. Linda Churchill will officiate. The service will terminate at the church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation in Trevor's memory to the Canadian Diabetes. Edward Widlake

EDWARD CHARLES WIDLAKE Peacefully after a courageous battle, Ted passed away at Grace General Hospital on Thursday, January 25, 2001, at the age of 87 years. Ted was born icon on December 21, 1913, in Transcona. On May 24, 1940, Ted married Janet Rennie. Six weeks later they moved to Saskatoon where he worked as an electrician for the CNR until serving with the RCNVR from 1943 to 1945. After the war he returned to Saskatoon with his family where he continued to work for the railway until his retirement in 1975 as a diesel electrical instructor. Ted was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #16, Scottish Rite Consistery Valley of Saskatoon. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 63, and a charter member of the CNR Pensioners' Association. Throughout his life Ted displayed his talent for playing the piano. In addition to his love of music, Ted enjoyed golf, curling, astronomy and travelling. He took up Tai Chi after he and Jennie returned to live in Winnipeg in 1992. Ted was predeceased by his father Edward Henry in 1925; his brother Tom Huntingdon, killed in action in Italy in 1944; his mother Mattie Geen in 1953; his sister-in-law Helen Preiss in 1992, her husband Len in 1997 and his cousins, Edward Widlake Hawkins in 1995 and Ruth Nicholls in 1997. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Janet (Jennie) of 60 years; his three children, Marion Widlake of Winnipeg, Lorraine (Ronald) Schiedel of Toronto and Ted (Carolynn Pietrangeli) Widlake of Grimsby, as well as his three grandchildren, Paul (Melissa) Schiedel of Strathroy, Susan (Michael) Beadle of London, Ont., Pamela (Gary) Lima of London and his two great-grandchildren, Sarah Beadle and Tyler Schiedel. He will be sadly missed by his extended family including his twin brothers-in-law, Alex (Bernice) Rennie of Sherwood Park and Jim (Joyce) Rennie of Transcona, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his cousin Edmund Knight and relatives in England. Ted, a dearly remembered husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, lived a long and happy life, adhering to his strong moral principles and leaving us a legacy of love, music and laughter. He will forever live on in our hearts. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29 in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment will take place at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of Grace Hospital on Three North for their exceptional care and kindness toward Ted during his last two months with us. Flowers are gratefully declined. Lillian Wood

LILLIAN MACKAY WOOD (nee RENNIE) Lillian MacKay Wood on January 24, 2001 at Vancouver General Hospital at Vancouver, B.C., aged 87 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Clifford Charles in 1988. Lillian was born icon in Portage la Prairie, Man. on June 3, 1913. She lived most of her life in Manitoba. She graduated from Portage Collegiate and went on to earn a B.A. from United College in 1933 and an M.A. from Teacher's College, Columbia Univeristy in 1934. She taught in schools in Macdonald and Portage until her marriage to Clifford in 1939. She subsequently returned to teaching in 1956 and taught French at Norberry School in St. Vital until 1971. In 1984 she and Clifford moved to Vancouver where Lillian made many friends at the Thursday Women's Bowling League at Arbutus Ridge Bowling. She was a wise and intelligent woman whose gentleness endeared her to all those who knew her. Lillian is survived by her daughter Barbara and her husband Everard Tripp of Vancouver, and grandson, Ian Tripp of Penticton. She is also survived by sister-in-law Shirley Rennie of Montreal and brother and sister-in-law Don and Beatrice Lewis of Sechelt and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Kearney Funeral Chapel, 1096 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., on Monday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m. Ashes will be interred and a memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at a date to be announced later. Anastasia Zanyk

ANASTASIA ZANYK (nee HUMENY) On Wednesday, January 24, 2001, Anastasia Zanyk passed away, with her family by her side, at the Tache Nursing Centre, at the age of 101 years. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas; daughter Ann; son Michael; and three infant sons, Steven, Harry and Maurice. Anastasia is survived by her children, Mary Loch, Zonnie Buchanan (Neil), Emily Gow (Bob), Pearl Wlock (Walter), Joseph Zanyk (Kathreen), Irene Kozar, Sylvia Meyer, (Karl), and Sylvester Zanyk; as well as 38 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Anastasia was born icon on October 1, 1899 in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of two years. She married Nicholas at the age of 16 and pioneered in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, raising their large family. She was a very hard working mother, devoted entirely to her children. She was well loved by everyone who knew her, and she was a remarkable person who was admired by all. Anastasia was always very generous to anyone who needed help, advice or comfort. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., also in the Chapel, with Deacon Ted Wood presiding. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Cranberry Portage, MB. The family would like to especially thank her friend Aline Gagne, her niece Mary Morris, and the dedicated staff at the Tache Nursing Centre for their kindness and friendship that was shown to our mother.
