Albert Johannson

ALBERT ("AL" "JO") PETUR JOHANNSON August 10, 1929 - January 24, 2002 It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Albert Petur Johannson, husband, father, and grandfather. Albert passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 24, 2002. Albert will be forever remembered and missed by his beloved wife Shirley (nee Maw), son Kevan (Alice), and daughters, Connie (Barry), Cheryl (Michael), and Lory (George). His grandchildren, Corrie, Jody, Ashley, Jordy, Morgan, Taylor, and Katelyn will always remember Grandpa. Albert is survived by his mother Mary Johannson, his mother-in-law Emma Maw, and predeceased by his father Bill in 1976. He is also survived by his cousins, Lorraine, Yvonne, Mary, and Ron. Albert will be remembered for his strength of spirit and determination, his sense of humour, and his love of a good meal surrounded by family and friends, be it at the Winnipeg Beach cottage or at his home. He truly loved the long dinners and conversation. Albert was the sole proprietor of Building Mechanics, a local construction firm. Aided by his lifelong friend and colleague Jim VanSanten no project was too big or too small for the dynamic duo. In 1971, Albert put the tools away and became the administrator of Betel Home Foundation in Selkirk and Gimli. After several years behind a desk, Albert returned to Building Mechanics where he and Jim continued until retirement beckoned in 1995. Albert was a competitor. From his youth playing basketball to curling, darts, billiards, and his lifelong passion for golf. He was a longtime member of Sandy Hook and in his later years Bel Acres Golf and Country Club. Never one to shy away, Albert always seemed to match the words with the deeds, he walked the talk all his life. Just ask his sons-in-law whose single goal was to beat him on the course and seldom did. Albert was a Meritorious Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1. He was a keen billiards player and always enjoyed the camaraderie of his many legion friends. Yes he loved to compete but his other true passion was his many travels with Shirley. Their favourite spot was Oahu, which he referred to as his paradise. No comment about Albert would ever be complete without a thank you to cousin Ronnie and his best friends, Ron Bowery and Tom Telford. Their enduring friendship was the catalyst for many of the dinner conversations. While he was not one to provide many accolades, he was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren. Everyone knew where they stood but that quiet look and nod would confirm "All is well and I'm with you". He will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered. Albert - you will never walk alone. A memorial service to celebrate Albert's life will be held Monday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St. Flowers gratefully declined, if you wish donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Heinz Juelich

HEINZ (HENRY) JUELICH 1911 - 2002 Peacefully, at the age of 90, on January 21, 2002 in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, Heinz passed away with those he loved by his side. Heinz is survived by daughter Angie (Bill) Percy; son Henry of Ottawa and grand-children, Karen, Tom and Jodie. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie in 1995. Heinz was born icon in Leipzig, Germany on May 8, 1911. In 1952, he fled from East Germany with his family to a life of freedom for his children and a lifetime of hard work for himself. This is his greatest legacy. He always spoke with gratitude of the Dodds' family of Pipestone, MB. for sponsoring his family, "complete strangers," to Canada. Heinz worked at Sears from 1957-1976 and thereafter had almost daily visits to his familiar Polo Park. Heinz will be remembered for his strength of spirit and determination; his love of a good meal; his sense of humour; and above all his great story telling. We will remember the stories told around the table with the greatest sense of humour, complete with actions and accents, of his impoverished childhood, his crossing the Atlantic as a stowaway, his war years and his beginning a new life in a new country. Still at the age of 90, he delighted in being able to recite "Die Glocke" by Schiller, quite a remarkable feat! He also passed on his love of "good" music to his children. There are two things that were unaccomplished----living to 100 years of age and winning the Lottery! A private family celebration of his life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 9Z9. Thanks to the staff of 8A for all your compassionate care to us all. Opa, you did it your way! Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715

The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand, The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet echoes on in sweet refrains... For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.
