in Winnipeg, March 27, 1932. Al was predeceased by his mother Phyllis Evans (Gandy), father John Gorton Robinson, and Norma Joan Robinson (Breault). Al is survived by his son Allan Norman (Pat), their children, Kenneth Allan, Candace Charmaine, Ryan Patrick, and Christine Susan; daughter Tanya Dawn Jeske (Marvin), daughter Veronica Arden Jeske; sisters, Isobel Elizabeth (Betty) Short and Shirley Irene Eddy; and friends, Agnes and Charlie. A short Burial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2002, in Block 917, lot 33, North Vancouver Cemetery, top of Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver, by Rev. Ed Hird. A reception will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 2, 2002, at the Legion Memorial Hall, 185 E11th Ave., Vancouver. ALMA A. ROSS On Thursday, January 24, 2002, at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg Alma Ross went to be with her Lord at the age of 89 years. She is survived by her son Ronald (Barbara); daughter Marilyn (Gordon) Toole; grandchildren, Laura (Doug) Pointer, Gordon (Pat) Ross, Leanne and Pamela Toole, Bill (Colleen) and Bob (Josee) Boorman and four great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Arthur, brother Paul Wiegner and sister Meta Aufdemberge. Alma devoted her life to her family and the Lutheran Church. She was the organist at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for 20 years was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Heartfelt thanks to the Convalescent Home for their excellent care and kindness. Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, McCalman and Grey, Tuesday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Seminary or a charity of your choice. LARA HELGA TERGESEN Lara Helga Tergesen, 97, of Gimli passed away peacefully on January 21 at the Betel Home in Gimli. She was predeceased by her husband Joe; parents, Julius and Helga Solmundson; siblings, Franz, Gudny, Bara and Oscar; son Joey, and grandson Soren. Her surviving family are son Terry (Lorna); daughter-in-law Frances; grandchildren, Hans, Cameron, Svenn (Amy), Stefan (Joanne Liang), Johann (Angela Maida) and Tristin; great-grandchildren, Kol, Candace, Amanda, Svava, Joren, and Maren; sisters-in-law, Verna Solmundson and Helen Bothwell. Lara was very active in community life and will be remembered for her enthusiasm, involvement and great contribution to the civic life of Gimli and the Icelandic Canadian community. Her dynamic presence was felt in all of her life's achievements, beginning with her school teaching, church involvement, her passion for curling, membership in the Women's Institute, school board chairman, the Gimli Museum, the Icelandic National League and for being a founding member of the Evergreen Regional Library. She was chosen to be Fjallkona at the annual Icelandic Festival of Manitoba. In her near 60 years of marriage Lara was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed caring for her family and always made room in her heart and her home for family and friends who came to stay as guests. She served for more than 30 years behind the cash register at the Tergesen family store alongside her husband Joe. Her striking beauty and outgoing personality touched the many she came in contact with. The family would like to thank the staff at the Betel Home for the years of care and respect shown to Lara. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church. William Trach
WILLIAM TRACH Peacefully with his family at his side, William Trach passed away at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital on January 24, 2002. Surviving besides his beloved wife Anne; daughter Cheryl of Teulon, MB; two brothers, Steve (Phyllis), John (Mary), both of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Joe Tymchen; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his son Barry in 1986 and by his parents, and sister Jean Tymchen. Bill was born
and raised in Komarno, he married Anne Strileski in 1953, he farmed and worked for the Federal Government. In 1990 he retired and moved to Teulon. Bill enjoyed family, neighbours, and friends visiting and their support and kindness. In his retirement he loved working on cars, doing yard work, and watching nature. Bill enjoyed talking about the future Hope of the Bible. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre. Robert McArthur will officiate with interment to follow in St. George's Cemetery, Komarno, MB. Special thanks to the Doctors, nurses and staff at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness shown to William which will always be remembered. Helen Waechter
HELEN IOLA WAECHTER (Hudson) (HELEN HINDS) March 6, 1918 - December 30, 2001 Peacefully passed away December 30, 2001 after a brief illness. Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rolf, and many friends in her first home, Winnipeg. Helen attended St. John's High School and using her artistic abilities worked at Moore's Restaurant in charge of the Printing and Stationery Office. Her marriage to Joseph Hudson inspired them to move to Los Angeles where she opened a little gem of a bar - The Canadian "a nice place with nice things for nice people" Helen was honoured to become a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the California Dining and Beverage Association. She received a cash award and a handsome Plaque for her lounge at the Association's 16th Annual Convention. Helen also had been an employee of MGM studios in their printing office. Helen distinguished herself teaching piano and organ to young people in her community. She and Rolf retired to a country home in Squaw Valley, California where they welcomed friends and relatives most cordially. Helen was predeceased by her mother, Mrs. Mabel Cato (Hinds, Brown), and her father Mr. Chrissie Hinds of Guyana. At Helen's request there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. Helen will be missed by the many persons she touched by her cheerful, kind and generous personality. We dearly love you Helen. May you Rest in Peace.

MARGARET WELWOOD (nee VANDALE) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Margaret Welwood, in Winnipeg on January 18, 2002. Margaret was born
in Spalding, SK, on August 1, 1928, to Wilfred and Lillian Vandale along with two brothers, Marven (Fay) Vandale of Alberta and Ron (Bette) Vandale of California; and two sisters, Doris (Bill) Bennet of Ontario and Florence (Bob) Neidermeyer of Saskatchewan. Margaret worked most of her life as a cashier for various stores such as IGA, which she loved a lot, being able to talk to so many people with her cheery personality and making lots of friends along the way. Mom's happiness in life was spending hours with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by her husband William Alan Welwood in 1991 and her beloved dog Pandi in 1995, who was always her constant companion. Mom's memory will be forever cherished by children, Ron (Sharon) Carter, daughter Jamie (Steven) Paul, both of Winnipeg, and Jack Feissel of Regina; grandchildren, Brittany, Sean and Brett; and her good friend Loretta of Winnipeg. ELSA WERSCH Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg Elsa Wersch, at the age of 82, joined her loved ones in heaven. and raised in the Emerson, MB area and moved to Winnipeg as a young woman where she met and married the love of her life - Ed. Mum always loved to bake and derived much happiness watching people enjoy the labour of her love. After retiring as a baker of several decades, Elsa set her sights south to Boissevain where she returned to the small town life style that she loved and spent many happy days with her brother Art. Sincere thanks to all the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their caring support. The family will be celebrating her life in a private gathering. BEN BORYSOWICH September 8, 1918 - May 30, 2002 Peacefully, with his family at his side, Ben Borysowich passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge. Ben will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Jean; three children, Gloria (Robert) Budakowski, Ron (Karen) and Brian (Angela); five grandchildren, Daryl (fiance Tara), Wesley, Amelia, Dennis and Daniel; one sister Kay Rogers; four brothers, Joe (Pat), William (Olga), John (Ann) and Emil (May) and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ben was in the Army during the Second World War and married Jean on November 13, 1943. They settled in Winnipeg, where they raised their family. Ben worked as a Shipper and Receiver at Granny's poultry until his retirement at age 65. He was an avid fisherman. His family and friends will always treasure his woodworking and crafts that he lovingly made. Ben was very hard working and instilled a very strong work ethic in his children. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for all their care and compassion. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 5 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel. Michael Bower
MICHAEL BOWER In a tragic automobile accident on May 24, 2002, Michael Leslie Carman Bower passed away at the age of 27. Michael was born
on October 26, 1974 in Lynn Lake, MB and lived in Leaf Rapids. In 1977 he moved with his family to Dartmouth, NS. In 1980 they finally settled in Shelburne, NS where he grew up. Michael was very active in 738 Kingsmill Air Cadet Squadron as a cadet from 1986 until 1993 when he received the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence for Outstanding Cadet Service, Citizenship and Comradeship. In his final year as a cadet he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer Level 1. When he was finished the cadet program, Michael went on to become a Commissioned Officer with the CAF Reserve and held the rank of Lieutenant. He moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1994 to live with his aunt and uncle, Sharon (Hallett) and Darcy Morrow, while attending the University of Manitoba. In between working on his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology, Michael spent every extra hour that he had helping out with his family's car lot. Friday evenings were, however, reserved for the 576 Air Cadet Squadron. He spent his summers at Cold Lake, AB and CFB Borden as an athletic instructor for cadets. His last summer of University was spent working for the John Howard Society with the Restorative Justice Program. During his University years Michael met the love of his life, Jocelyn Grier. After his graduation they lived together in Winnipeg and were planning to be married on May 24, 2003. Michael enjoyed his work in corrections. He worked briefly at Agassiz youth center but made his move quickly into Correctional Services Canada first as a CO1 at Stony Mountain Institution, then as a CO2 at Rockwood Institution. He found his niche while in an acting position as a Parole Officer at Rockwood. Michael was a great lover of the outdoors. Camping, canoeing, hunting and fly-fishing, all taught to him by his parents, were always enjoyed and an opportunity to take part was never passed up. A trip home would not have been complete without a visit to the family camp. Michael was predeceased by his grandparents, Leslie and Betty Bower; and grandmother Gladys Hallett. He leaves to cherish his memory his life partner and fiancee Jocelyn Grier; parents, Keith and Gail (Hallett) Bower; brothers, Timothy and Nicholas; grandfather Aubrey Hallett (Joan); and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael will also be greatly missed by Jocelyn's entire family especially mother Betty; brothers, Geoffrey and Campbell; and grandmother Kathleen Davis. Thank you to the staff at Seton General Hospital (Jasper, AB), Bob Joy at Edson Funeral Home (Alberta), Eirik at Neil Bardal Inc. (Winnipeg) and Cliff at Huskilson's Funeral Home (Nova Scotia) for helping Michael to return to his hometown. Funeral services have been held in Shelburne, NS.
