NATALIA BOYCHUK Peacefully, on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Natalia Boychuk, aged 80 years of Winnipeg. Natalia came to Canada in 1967, residing in Ontario briefly before coming to Winnipeg. She worked as a seamstress in the garment industry, retiring in 1987. Natalia was a member of the UNF - Winnipeg Branch, Institute Prosvita and Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Left to cherish Natalia's memory are her daughter Stefania Tsuytsmats (Taras); grandson Volodymyr Tsuytsmats (Maria); great-grandchildren, Mariana and Ihor, all of Ukraine; granddaughter Natalia Katchanovski (Ihor); great-grandchildren, William and Oksana, all of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1993. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 3 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, also at the Cathedral, with Rev. M. Kouts officiating. GREGG S. BRAMWELL Has passed away peacefully on May 25, 2002 at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 75 years. George Crewson

GEORGE EDWARD CREWSON March 28, 1919 - May 30, 2002 On May 30, 2002 George Crewson of Treherne, MB passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing George was 83 years of age. George is survived by his son Dale (Verla) of Beaumont, AB; Granddaughter Keri of Medicine Hat, AB; Grandsons, Murray of Edmonton, AB, Fraser Neek of Winnipeg and Roger Neek of Beaumont, AB; sister Jessie Glover of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Hazel Elliott of Treherne; nephews, Keith (Marion) Campbell of Winnipeg, Ed (Doreen) Elliott of Winnipeg and his best friend and loving companion Lolly Roper of Treherne. George was raised in Portage la Prairie where he participated in minor and junior hockey. He was a dedicated scholar and was awarded the Governor General Medal. After the Second World War George dedicated 44 years to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. George was a polite and truly caring individual. George was predeceased by his loving wife Merle; daughter Karen Beth; parents, Jabez and Margaret Crewson; daughter-in-law Lucille; sisters, Etta, Lottie Campbell, Laura Dyer; and brother Harry. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Treherne United Church, Treherne, MB with interment to follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Treherne, MB. Frank Funk

FRANK D. FUNK 1930 - 2002 Dad was born icon June 12, 1930 and after a lengthy illness Dad went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 31, 2002. Frank, son of Franz R. and Kathrina Funk, is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth; daughter Michelle (Greg) Klassen of Grunthal; son Patrick (Mireille) Funk of Kleefeld. Papa is also survived by his eight adoring grandchildren, Tristan, Kieran, Brayde, Taeghen, Daren, Keelan, Nixen, Carsen; as well as five sisters and seven brothers, Maria Dyck, Katherine (Ike) Dyck, Helen (Henry) Voth, Anne (Ruben) Fehr, Lydia (Vic) Dyck, Peter (Nettie), John (Esther), Jacob (Tina), Paul, Andy (Margaret), Victor (Martha), and Bill (Maggie). Dad was predeceased by son Mark Anthony; granddaughter Hope Funk; and his parents, Franz R. and Katherina Funk. Dad was a very ambitious man. Along with special friend and partner Emil Bertschinger, they worked hard to build a very successful business Carleton Hatcheries & Dunn-Rite Food Products. Frank will be greatly missed by his partners Rico, Mario and Ursala Bertschinger and their many employees. A special thanks to our dear friend Dr. Craig Hildahl. The funeral service for Frank D. He was born icon on May 25, 1950 at The Hague, Netherlands, only child of Rudolph and Natalie Hess. MARY HOLENS June 30, 1914 - June 1, 2002 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Holens in her 88th year. Mary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 66 years, Anthony (Tony); by her children, Tom (Audrey) and Carol (John), as well as her grandchildren, Jason (Sue), Pam (Andy), Sandee (Jeff), Gord (Pam), Chris (Coral), Brad (Lisa); great-grandchildren, Stephen, Ryan, Samuel, Andrew and Miranda and her sister, Olive Weber. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Theodore Iwasiechko; sister Josepha Salome; and infant brother Johnny. Mary attended Isaac Newton High School, and then started her working career in the garment industry. Later she worked in sales at the Hudson's Bay Company, as an accounts payable clerk at Merchant's Consolidated and as a psychometrician at the University of Manitoba. Mary was a skilled seamstress, was fond of reading, knitting and crocheting. She had a good sense of humour, was very generous and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed being with her family and took special pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Central Park Lodge (Poseidon) Nursing Home and the Victoria General Hospital staff for the kind and considerate care they have provided. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to service at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. 1 East at Navin Road. Flowers are gratefully declined. Joseph Kilmar

JOSEPH M. KILMAR Peacefully, on May 29, 2002 at the Vita District Health Centre, Joseph M. Kilmar passed away. Joe was predeceased by his father Joseph; mother Mary; and sister Olga. Jose was born icon on June 20, 1923 in Sprague, MB where he grew up and attended school till grade eight, completing high school in Ridgeville, MB. He worked in the forest industry, cutting wood in the area until 1956, after which he was employed by the Manitoba Government Forest Services. Joe worked the Sprague, Piney and Woodridge areas until he moved to Marchand, MB where he took on the duties of Radio Dispatch for the South Eastern Region. In the late 60's, he left the government, taking employment with Columbia Forest Products at the chipboard plant in Sprague, which later became known as Sandilands Forest Products. He stayed with them until his retirement in 1978. Joe had a very caring heart, and everyone was his friend. Having no children of his own, he took his grandnephews, Jason and Jonathan Mushaluk and the Walter Trousdale family's children, Sharon, Kim, Jim and Kelly, as his own. Candies and a big smile were always on the menu. He will be sadly missed by his nephew Jim (Barb) Mushaluk of Winnipeg; grandnephews, Jason, Jonathan (Melanie) Mushaluk; life long friends, Karen Horta, Walter (Arley) Trousdale, Sharon, Kim, Jim (Kelly) plus many other friends and coworkers. JOSAPHAT LE NEAL Peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre on Friday May 31, 2002, Mr. Josaphat Le Neal formerly of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba passed away at the age of 89 years. Edith Mutter

EDITH MUTTER It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife and mother on May 29, 2002, at the age of 56. Edith's memory will be fondly cherished by her husband Jack; sons, Justin, Jeff (Ramona); sister Grace Nedotiafko (Robert), brothers, David Skwarek (Marlene), and Charlie Skwarek (Jackie), and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased by parents, Bertha Skwarek in 1993 and Martin Skwarek in 1998. Edith was born icon February 18, 1946 at the family farm in the Melnice district of Manitoba. Edith received her early education in the nearby communities of Winnipeg Beach and Gimli. In 1964, she commenced training to become a Registered Nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating in 1967. In 1970, she was married to Jack Mutter and resided in the Crestview area since 1973. Most of Edith's nursing career was spent at Oakview Place Nursing Home, where she worked as an Assistant Head, and a Head Nurse until health problems forced her to retire in 1990. Despite suffering through a lingering illness, Edith became actively involved in church activities, including UCW at Crestview United Church. Gardening and cooking were a source of enjoyment to Edith in this time. Edith was a loving wife and mother, and cherished all family, friends, and co-workers. Edith's unwavering strength and optimism through her illness was a source of inspiration to all around her. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Clifford Yaffe, the Home TPN Program at Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital, and the Nursing Staff at 7A West at the St. Boniface Hospital for all their care and compassion over the years. A celebration of her life will be held at Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Ave. on Monday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Beth Rutherford officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Bert Sammons

BERT ARTHUR SAMMONS It is with great sadness that the family of Bert Arthur Sammons announce his passing on May 17, 2002 in Victoria, BC, of congestive heart failure. Bert was born icon in Winnipeg on November 23, 1908 and resided there until 1999. He was the youngest of 12 children of Joseph and Mary Sammons (nee Birks), all predeceased, who had emigrated from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England and the only child born icon in Canada. He was predeceased by his wife Marion Louise Sammons (nee Hobbs of Toronto) in 1994 whom he married in 1945 and is survived by his four children, Bob (and wife Terri) of Victoria, Kathie of Calgary, Susan (and husband Peter) of Iqaluit, and Doug (and wife Marie) of France. He had several grandchildren, Kevin and Sarah, Scott and Joanne, Nanauq and Kukik, and Hugo and Leonie; and one great-grandson Ben. He is also survived by his nieces, Denise Hodgeson of Richmond, BC, Valerie Sammons of Seattle, WA, and Pat Stevens of Vancouver. Stewart Gunn and his wife Glad, and Burt Robinson and his wife Gerry were devoted lifelong friends he deeply cherished. Dad also valued the friendship and support of Patricia Nixon, mother to grand-children Scott and Joanne. In his youth, Dad had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club, paddling many happy hours along rivers and lakes in the Winnipeg and Whiteshell areas. He also spent time in the Banff area in the early 1930s as a young man, enjoying cross-country skiing, horseback riding and hiking in the Canadian Rockies where some of his ashes will be shared with nature. During the Second World War he taught tactical bombing with the Royal Canadian Air Force at Allied Air Bases in Ontario and New Brunswick. He had wonderfully entertaining stories to tell about life in early Winnipeg. Dad had worked with Canadian Airways in the 1930s and was Purchasing Agent with the Winnipeg General Hospital until his retirement in 1974. He maintained his interest in aviation by becoming a member of the Western Canada Aviation Museum and volunteered as Membership Secretary for many years. Cremation occurred in Victoria on May 23 and his ashes will be interred alongside our mother's in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg in July of this year, accompanied with a service. His family and friends will remember a kind and gentle man with a wonderful and warm sense of humour. Our father graced the world for 93 years and will grace our lives forever. He is fondly remembered in all our hearts. If friends so desire, Dad would have appreciated a donation in his name to the Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg.

Hertha Tallas

HERTHA TALLAS (nee DAHLKE) Suddenly at home on May 30, 2002, Hertha went to be with her beloved husband, John, who passed away on May 10, 2002. She was also predeceased by her parents, Leopold and Lidia, and by her sister Erika. Hertha will be sadly missed, loved and remembered by her two sons, Dale (Barb) of Winnipeg and Gordon (Marie) of Los Angeles; grandchildren Jenelle, Kristin and Blake; sister Hilda and brother Walter of Germany; many nephews and nieces especially Diane from Edmonton. Hertha was born icon in Germany in 1929 and immigrated to Canada after the war. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She supported her family in all their endeavours. She took great pleasure in spoiling them. Hertha was a gifted homemaker. Everything had to be in its proper place. She will also be remembered for the homemade doughnuts and buns and for making sure that when she hired people to do work that it was done properly. She was the self-proclaimed supervisor on the job. She enjoyed her Saturday shopping trips, travelling to Germany and Los Angeles, playing bridge, gardening and keeping in touch with friends and family. Special thanks to Guido Novel and attending police officers for their support. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hertha's memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8 or to a charity of ones choice. HUAN DI TAN Huan was born icon on October 23, 1913, in Hai Peng Canton China. She peacefully passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital on May 30, 2002. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Joe Hung, daughter-in-law Oi Hung; two grandsons, Ken Hung, wife May, and Kam Yee Hung, wife Lian; five granddaughters, Singwan Hung (Winnipeg), Xing Yee (Ontario), Ling Jin (Ottawa), Terry Mark (Winnipeg), Eva Lee (Ontario), as well as numerous great-grandsons and great-granddaughters.
