Oswald Dalzell

OSWALD RIDDELL DALZELL On January 22, 2003 at the age of 85, our "Dere Ole Dad" left us to join the great love of his life, our mother Dot. Dad was born icon June 29, 1917 in Coatbridge, Scotland, where he lived until he immigrated to Montreal at the age of 10. Growing in Montreal instilled in Dad an everlasting "joie de vivie" which showed in his great love for family, friends, travel and a sense of adventure. Dad joined the RCAF in 1940, serving overseas during wartime with the 86th Squadron as wireless air gunner, with peacetime, he returned to Montreal to work at War Assets, where he met our mom. Then came an opportunity to move to Marathon, ON, where he and Mom were married in 1948. Dad began his career in recreation as director for the town. This was followed by a move to Terrace Bay, ON. After six years and two little girls, the journey continued. With a move to Toronto, Dad was the first Parks and Recreation Director and then Commissioner for Scarborough, ON where he stayed for the next nine years. The family then continued the adventure by moving to Morrisburg, ON, where Dad became General Manager for the St. Lawrence Seaway Parks Commission and owned his first convertible! How he loved to drive that car, top down, heater on! Dad then changed gears a bit, by taking a position in Ottawa with a landscape architect firm, just to be involved with Expo 67 in Montreal. It was a time to practice his French and renew his love for a great city! Then, in 1968, one more move to Winnipeg where he became Director of Operations for Manitoba Provincial Parks. He travelled the province extensively, east, west, north and south, particularly enjoying the festivals in The Pas and Flin Flon and bringing home pickerel cheeks for Mom, his #1 girl. Upon his retirement at 65, Dad found he wasn't finished yet, so became a consultant for the ARC authority in Winnipeg, which he continued until he really retired at the age of 70. During Dad's lifetime, he was also involved with Kiwanis, Wartime Pilots, the Manitoba Motor League and the Hockey Hall of Fame (Manitoba), all of which gave he and Mom opportunities to travel, entertain and make new friends all over the world, with a particular love for New Zealand. For the past four years, Dad was Mom's "caregiver extraordinaire". Nobody did it better, Dad! They shared a great life together and are united once again. Left to remember a great dad and grand-father, with joy for all he gave us, loving daughters, Ginny (Ted) and Maureen (James); along with grandchildren, Kristofer (Angela), Jordy, Mike (Andrea), Leah and Jenna. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made in support of Prostate Cancer Research, or to a charity of your choice. Please join us for a gathering of remembrance, Thursday, January 30, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wildewood Club, 761 North Dr., Winnipeg, MB. "Aren't we the lucky ones!" LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860

Alana Fife

ALANA EILEEN FIFE 1981 - 2003 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alana Eileen Fife on January 22, 2003. She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents, Darryl and Cynthia Fife; sister Cristylee; great-grand-mother Kay Kostick; maternal grandparents, Eileen and Paul Mishkow; paternal grandparent Ruby Fife; aunts and uncles, Bruce and June Mishkow (Rory), Dianne (Mishkow) and Mitch McCrimmon, Andy and Karen Mishkow (Warren and Mandy), Danny and Chantel Bertrand (Tim and David), Sharon Bertrand and Roger Laine, Wayne and Sharon Fife; as well as cousins. Also a special mention to Auntie Swouns. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparent Ron Fife, and aunt Debralee Fife. Alana was born icon in Winnipeg on April 20, 1981. She lived with her family in the North End of Winnipeg. She attended Sisler High School, and after graduating enrolled in the Arts program at the University of Winnipeg. After completing her third year of university Alana decided to postpone her graduation in order to partake in a one-year overseas missions program through the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Alana was stationed in Solo, Indonesia. Her adventure began in August 2002. Her last six months were spent teaching English in an elementary school, ministering in a local church, befriending and assisting fellow Indonesian students in their studies, and engaging in many friendships with the local people. Alana had a heart for social justice and peace; thus, fully endorsed and delighted herself in events like the recent Solo Peace Rally, put on by her host dad's interfaith group, sponsored by MCC. It was here that she was able to contribute from the passions of her heart: discussing peace issues, and strategic, responsive peace building projects. Alana had immeasurable impact upon so many people in this Indonesian community, and will be missed immensely. In 1997 Alana began her journey of faith. She started to attend Calvary Temple, and it was there that she gave her heart to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Alana quickly became involved in various ministries, including youth camp, children's inner city ministry, church choir, and providing excellent leadership in young adult ministry at the Link. All of her involvement spoke of her heart's desire to serve people, and to impact them with the same love that changed her life. On Wednesday, January 22, Alana passed away tragically. She died combining three of her greatest loves: the outdoors, children, and God. She was loved, and will be greatly missed. When adults and children alike met Alana, her rosy cheeks, infectious smile, sincerity, and compassion immediately charmed and impacted them. As stated by a friend: If you met her, you'd never forget her. Alana lived her dream to the fullest, with a zeal that was second to none. In 21 years she lived a lifetime. However, we believe this is not a rendering but merely a postponement of our friendships with Alana. We know with confidence that she has embraced her true Love, and heard the words Well done my faithful daughter. The family would like to invite you to a celebration of Alana's life on Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St., Winnipeg. Flowers gratefully declined. A memorial fund will be established to further Alana's work with children in constructing an orphanage in a developing country. Envelopes will be made available at the service.
