ALEX CHASE

July 06, 2004

ALEX CHASE On Saturday, July 3, 2004 at the Grace Hospital, Alex Chase, much loved father of Barbra, left us to join his beloved wife Helen Rose, daughter Marjorie Ann Loewen and son Richard Alexander, his parents and many other loves ones in the care of Jesus. Alex was a member of St. Michael's Parish Roman Catholic Church in Gimli, St. Andrews and Corpus Christi in Thunder Bay, St. Henry's in Melville, where he became an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and St. John Brebeuf in Winnipeg for the last 31 years. Alex married Helen in Gimli, MB in 1939 where the two owned and operated South Beach Grocery and Ice. In 1943, he was employed by the C.N.R. and worked as a fireman, then locomotive engineer in Saskatoon, Melville, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg until his retirement in 1983. A caring and generous man, Dad had a wide collection of mementos from the many charities he donated to. Following the loss of the love of his life, Helen, he again became active with the Knights of Columbus where he attained his 4th Degree and, until his illness a year ago at 85, often spent weekends serving pancake breakfast to "the seniors". Dad was a good father, always there, always supportive. He was very dearly loved and respected by all those who shared his life, particularly during his retirement years when he really came into his own. Alex will be sadly missed by his beloved daughter Barbra; his sisters, Mary Shore and Gene Eaton and their families; his cousins, Michael and Irene Miles and Evelyn Trezza; his "in-laws", Mary Keller of Thunder Bay and Mary and Ed Golby of Toronto; many loved nieces, nephews and their families, his Brother Knights, and many friends spanning multiple generations. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. in St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 St. John Brebeuf Pl. with Msgr. Ward Jamieson presiding. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Brebeuf Church with Fr. Michael Koryluk presiding. Interment will take place in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alex's name to St. John Brebeuf Parish, the Humane Society of Winnipeg, or a charity of your choice.
