JOSPEH LaBOSSIERE

July 17, 2004

JOSPEH MARCEL LaBOSSIERE July 16, 1920 - July 14, 2004 It is with deep sadness and regret that the LaBossiere family announces that despite his valiant fight to stay with us, Joe passed away on July 14, 2004 at the St. Boniface General Hospital, two days shy of his 84th birthday. His memory will be cherished forever by his loving wife Patricia and his children, Paul (Sarah), Dave (Jackey), Rick (Nora), Tim (Louise) and Lorraine (Rob Morris). He will be dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Keith and his family (Tracy, Melanie and Emma), Nicole (Liam), Michelle and her family (Matias, Justin and Meghan), Sherry, Danielle, Lauren, Lisa, David, Michael and Robbie. He also will be fondly remembered by his six step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his brothers, Jules, Etienne (a.k.a. Bobby) and his sister Alexandrine, Joe leaves to mourn his brothers, Denis (Evelyn), Yves and Johnny (Fern), as well as his sisters, Blande Matthews, Gisele Ramsay, Edith Foo, Marilyn Reid and Rennee McIvor, along with many nieces and nephews. Joe often spoke of his childhood, sharing with his children and grandchildren, humourous anecdotes of his life as one of 12 siblings. He never forgot how hard the depression hit his family and those he loved. He always strived to help out any family member of the RCAF and was stationed in England. He returned safely from the war and was deeply saddened when his brother Jules did not. In 1949, he married Patricia Lavallee and in 1950 they started their family. In 1954, Joe worked two jobs to provide for his growing family. One of these jobs was an office cleaning company which he ran from his home. From these humble beginnings, Joe created P.M.L. Maintenance Ltd. and Five-L Equipment Limited, where his wife and children worked with him. Joe was fiercely proud of the legacy he built for his family. He worked at Five-L until he was 73, finally retiring and leaving his businesses in the good hands of his sons. He made weekly and sometimes daily visits to check up on things or to renovate an office or two. Joe was never without a project and his project mania was not fully satisfied until 1996 when along with Tim, he built a cottage in Lac du Bonnet. There he spent some of his happiest times with Pat, planning and building, planting trees, being with family and making new friends. He always said he never felt as good as when he was at the cottage. Sports played a major part of Joe's life. He was an avid Bombers, Jets, Goldeyes and Moose fan. In his pre-cottage years, he played golf in Winnipeg in the summer, and in Arizona and Florida in the winter. When Joe and Pat could no longer travel in winter because of his declining health, Joe found interests to satisfy his keen intellect. He studied the genealogy of the LaBossiere family, talking and writing about his findings. He stayed abreast of world affairs and engaged in serious philosophical discussions with young and old alike. Joe's family was his greatest source of satisfaction and pride. Although he enjoyed the quiet times with friends, it was at family gatherings that Joe was truly in his element. He loved laughter and sharing jokes, believing that a positive state of mind could overcome his many physical aliments and illnesses. He was an example of courage, perseverance and strength and will be sorely missed. We are grateful to have had Joe in our lives and we will hold him in our hearts forever. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the mass at St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House. "Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time." OTTO LOOK

July 17, 2004

OTTO LOOK Oct. 15, 1931 - July 10, 2004 On Saturday, July 10, 2004 with courage and love of his family by his side, Otto died and returned to the presence of God. Da is survived by his loving wife Ida; and his children, son Greg, daughters, Violet (Jessica), Marie (Emily), Arlene (Barry), Fern (Darcy); his cousins in Canada, Gerhard Ernst (Family), Martha Look and sister, in Germany, Otto Ernst (Ella), Lotte Brinkman (Horst) and family. Last but not least his friends, Helmut, Egan, Arnold, Ed, Brian, Paul; and our neighbour Dennis. He was predeceased by his father Arthur, mother Emma, his uncle Edward and in April of this year his younger brother Richard. Also his friend Jerry Cyback and our family dog Fritz. Da was born icon in Poland but was a German Citizen raised at the family home in Hamburg Germany. In 1953 at the age of 22 years Da decided to immigrate to Canada with his best friend Wolfgang Henke who predeceased him in 1986. Father settled in Winnipeg and in the tradition of old Hollywood movies met my mother in Chinatown. Da worked many jobs eventually retiring from Versatile Farm Equip. Co. after 20 years of service. I've always felt Da missed his calling as a historian or political scientist because of his impressive knowledge of world affairs past and present. In his retirement he liked to repair household appliances, read, watch the B.B.C news and wax philosophical with his sharp biting sense of humour, ouch! Towards the end his congestive heart failure caused most organs to fail but even at this stage he displayed no despair only courage and acceptance. With his family holding him close and telling him how much we love him he shuddered and passed from this world to the next. Our family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff of the Concordia Hospital for the care and attention they gave our father. We found nothing lacking. A special thank you to nurse Susan, Dr. Caners and Dr. Leopp. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service. We love you and will think of you everyday till we meet again. God bless you Da, Your loving family. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy. 668-3151

DAVID MASHOWSKI

July 17, 2004

DAVID MASHOWSKI On June 24, 2004, David Mashowski, 40 years of age, left this world for a better place. He was a man of principle and will be sadly missed. Dave was born icon in Portage la Prairie and spent his younger years growing up in Dauphin. The family later moved to Winnipeg, residing in East Kildonan, where Dave attended Kildonan East Secondary School and graduated with a certificate in Power Mechanics. He later attended Red River College and obtained a Graphic Arts Diploma. Dave worked as a printing press operator for many years at Kellett's and the Winnipeg Sun. He took great pride in producing quality work. Dave was a unique, sensitive individual with a keen sense of the beauty and wonder of life. This was expressed in his collections of music, art and memorabilia. Although he spent much time alone, he enjoyed sharing what he had with family and friends. Dave was playful and would often point out the humourous side of things. He was kind and forgiving and would rather hurt himself than another. He helped others with innovative solutions to practical problems. Dave travelled extensively and took many nature pictures. He recently won a prize in a photography contest. Dave was courageous, independent and a daring sportsman bordering on being a stuntman. He skied, cycled and swam. His sense of adventure led him to travel across Canada on a motorcycle. Dave's mechanical talent and a sense of design would enable him to invent gadgets. He was athletic and would push himself to the limit. He could ride a unicycle and walk on stilts. Many people said he was handsome and stylish. Dave leaves to cherish his memory his two sisters, Maxine Corrington (James/Tim), Myra Mashowski (Barry); brother Larry; father Tom; his cat Scratchy; numerous other relatives and friends, particularly Eddie Polkowski, Dan Verdonck, "Big Al" Palmer and Mike Foster. He was predeceased by his mother Colly Baldwinson and stepfather Grimsi Brynjolfson. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 41 Maple St. Rev. Dr. J. Kibwaa officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Pilgrim Baptist Church. Psalm 103, Romans 8:31-39. "Free at Last" Ode to Dave - He was innocent. He was pure. I loved him more than life itself. Love will bind us together forever. This world is not our home. Your sister.
