VERNON (VERN) JOHN FRASER It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vern, beloved husband and best friend of Lorna (Lori). Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 1994 and peacefully succumbed to the disease on Friday, July 16, 2004 at the Grace General Hospital with his family and close friend at his side. As well as his loving wife Lori, Vern leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Gail McGregor (Craig); son Kent and grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan McGregor; three brothers, Ross (Ernestine), Ken (Dorothy) and Ron (Donna); Aunt Toni Fraser; his extended family, Melissa and Ed Hernbald; Elaine and John Strauss; Dale and Muriel Wellar; aunts, Vi Whitehead and Pearl Jefferson as well as numerous other caring aunts, nieces and nephews. Dad will be missed by his longtime friends, Bernie and Katy Doerksen as well as his four legged friends, Simba and Blue. He was born icon in Eston, SK on May 13, 1934 and the family soon moved to Flin Flon, where Dad was raised and educated. Dad and Mom were married in 1954 and in 1966 relocated their family to Winnipeg. He spent 25 years as a teacher/Department Head at Red River Community College, retiring in 1991. Dad loved to travel and road trips were Mom and Dad's favourite way to spend time together. Fortunately, they had many of these trips across Canada and the United States. This year they were able to spend their 50th anniversary in Hawaii which was the only state he hadn't driven to. His other passion was restoring classic cars and motorcycles. A celebration of Vern's life will be held on Monday (today) July 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. at Mount Royal Road. Special thanks to Drs. W. Schellenberg and Pat Harris and all care givers on 3 South at the Grace General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vern's memory to the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg Foundation Inc., CE 501 - 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 or a charity of your choice. Marion leaves to cherish her memory her husband John; children, Barry (Brigit) Hawkins, Fred (Janice) Hawkins, Diane (Dennis) Dreikluft, Joanne (Eric) Thompson, Doreen (George) Szor, Gerry (Ed) Siwicki, Donna (Ken) Simm, and Rick (Pam) Gibson; brother Roy Stabler; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Essel; and husbands Ken Whelon and Art Dilworth. The family would like to thank the staff at the Misericordia Health Centre for their compassionate care as well as the tenants of Fairmont Woods. LESTER WILFRED KOWALL Lester passed away on July 12, 2004, at the age of 68 at Concordia Hospital. Son of the late Walter and Stella Kowall of Oakbank; brother of Virginia (Marvin) Pommer of Surrey, BC; and uncle of Andria Pommer of Surrey; brother of Richard Kowall of White Lake, MI; uncle of Micheal, Rick and Joseph Kowall of White Lake and Theresa Kowall-Shipp of Toronto, ON. Lester grew up up in Oakbank area and attended Cooks Creek School. He was employed by Woods Mfg. and later Syntex until his retirement in 2001. Prayers will be on Monday, July 19, 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament, 425 Rosseau Ave. East, with Rev. THOMAS GEORGE LAST September15, 1929 - July 16, 2004 Our loving Father, Husband, and friend passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital on the morning of July 16, 2004. With his family at his side every step of the way Dad fought valiantly and uncomplaining against a lengthy illness which finally overcame him physically but was no challenge to his brilliant mind and strong spirit. In that sense he will be with us forever. Predeceased by his mother Hazel and father Sam, Dad is survived by his devoted wife of fifty two years, Gloria (nee Scinocca) and daughters, Aurelia Last and partner Shirley, and Glory Dawn Last and husband Doug. He also leaves to mourn his sister Jerry McMeekin and brother-in-law Roy McMeekin with whom he spoke to almost every night on the phone just to give each other the gears; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Shirley and Ron Scinocca from San Diego; childhood friends Brian Flye and wife Jody Flye, friends since second grade. Dad also leaves many other friends, family, nieces and nephews who each held a special place in his soft heart including Granddogs Fysal and Bertie. His friends in the block have constantly asked about him and miss him holding court in the lobby while neighbours spanning every generation stopped to talk to him, pouring out their hearts and appreciating his careful but nonjudgmental attention. A Memorial Service in celebration of Dad's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Klassen Funeral Home. Reception will follow. BRIAN ROBERT LOFVENDAHL August 12, 1950 - July 16, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian, aged 53, on July 16, 2004, after a lengthy illness. Brian is survived by his wife Debra Lofvendahl (Taylor) and sons, Sean (Catherine) Lofvendahl, Brian Jr. (Kelly) Lofvendahl, and daughter Amanda Lofvendahl; his stepdaughters, Shalaine Mondor and Suzanne (Sean) Clevette. Sadly, Brian also leaves behind to cherish his memory seven beautiful grandchildren, Tia, Chloe, Caden, Madelaine, Tianna, Brooke and Caitlin. Also, Brian's parents, Mildred and Lorne Steenerson; his brother Blair and sister Tami (Brian); and many nephews and nieces. Brian was predeceased by his father Robert and his uncle Robert Burton. Brian was born, educated and lived in Winnipeg. He started his career working for Westinghouse but found his niche selling electronics where he was General Manager for Sanyo Electronics for seven years and Mitsubishi, two years. He decided to pursue his dream of working for himself and with his partner, Ken Thompson, founded an agency called Manpro Enterprises. Brian loved and owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles over the years. He also was a huge Winnipeg Blue Bomber football fan. Brian's wonderful sense of humour and good-natured personality will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. The family would like to thank Dr. Narrandes and the many staff members at Deer Lodge Centre for all their care and support. JOHN MACGREGOR

JOHN CHARLES (JACK) MACGREGOR Peacefully on Friday, July 16, 2004, Jack, surrounded by his loving family, passed away after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Jack was born icon May 29, 1942 in Edam, SK and his family moved to British Columbia in 1947. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1961 and was stationed in Gimli, MB. Jack met the love of his life Valerie in 1964 and they married in 1965. He took great pride until the very end in his career, being the Chief Operating Officer of A. Adams Supply (1969) Ltd. Jack enjoyed the long weekends with his niece Kelsey and all the family dinners and special times with the Hart family. There wasn't a rhyme or a song that he did not know. He is survived by his beloved wife Valerie of 39 years of marriage; two sons, David and Jason; daughter-in-law Cristiana; and six month old grandson baby Jack. Jack was predeceased by his father John, and is survived by his mother Peggy; sisters, Ellen Norman (John) and Betty Desy (Alf); brothers, Jim, Gord (Jackie) and Ken (Stephanie) all of British Columbia. Val's family was very special to Jack. He was predeceased by his father-in-law Svend Nielsen and is survived by his mother-in-law Margaret; sisters-in-law, Marge Kushnir (daughters Tamara and Sara) and Anna Fuller (Peter) (daughter Kelsey). He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Jack was an active supporter of the St. Charles Community Club through hockey, baseball, fencing and many other activities. A special thank you to Dr. Czaykowski and his nurse Kristie, CancerCare B.C., CancerCare Manitoba and the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. The family would also like to thank the many drivers, visitors and supporters of Jack and his family. WILLIAM ELDON McGIMPSEY February 25, 1926 - July 16, 2004 Bill will be remembered and missed by his sons, Tom, Dave (Lana), Ken (Laura), and Doug (Esther); his grandchildren, Corey, Meg, Brett, Michael, Bryan, Rebekah, Kyle, and Emily; his brothers, Cliff (Muriel), Len (Phyllis); his sister-in-law Ruth McGimpsey and brother-in-law Tom Webb; his cousin Roberta Wallace; and family friend Joan Hoffman. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Webb); his parents, William and Ella; and his brother Robert. Dad lived all his life in Winnipeg, except for his time in the Navy during the Second World War, when he was stationed in Halifax. After the war he became an accountant, married Margaret Webb and began 36 years at Federated Co-op. He began suffering ill health in 1960. His beloved wife Margaret died in 1961, leaving him with four young boys to raise. Bill and his sons moved from Avondale in St. Vital to Ruby Street in the West End in order to live with his parents. In 1972, after the death of his parents, Bill and his sons move to Trail Avenue in St. James where Dad continued to be a wonderful father, grandfather and father-in-law. Dad lived a quiet life and found pleasure in simple things. He was a man of integrity and strength, overcoming or bearing hardship and pain without complaint and always with dignity. His life and the way he lived it were an example to many people he came in contact with along the way. Bill's family would like to thank Health Sciences Centre, especially 4th floor of Rehabilitation Hospital, Home Care and staff at 1010 Sinclair, for the excellent care given to Dad over the years. Also a heartfelt thank you to Nora Schwetz, hemophiliac nurse, who has been a source of compassion, understanding and knowledge for many years. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Hemophilia Society, 932A Erin St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 2W5 or the Manitoba Society for People with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.
