LAWRENCE HEMMERLING Peacefully at home, on August 16, 2004, with a song and a smile on his face, Larry went on his next journey. Born in Landis, SK on December 10, 1931, Larry grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, where he met and married Lorraine Ruppel. Larry started his working career in 1947 as a clerk with the City of Winnipeg. In 1951, he was hired by CNT as a telex operator, later becoming a technician and eventually moving into sales. Special life long friendships were formed during these 34 years. Larry and Lorraine raised their family while sharing their love and support with many foster children, extended family and friends. People, music, food, laughter and love were always in abundance in their home. After retiring, Larry enjoyed travel, music, art, golf and became a master at the barbecue. His recent travel in February was to Australia with children and grandchildren
. His paintings are proudly displayed and cherished in the homes of his family. Larry leaves to celebrate his love of life, his wife Lorraine; their seven children, Eric (Michelle), Linda, Gail (Larry), Karen (Bill), Gloria (Don), Kathy, Doug (Christy); and 17 grandchildren, Craig, Paul, Dale, Laura, Melissa, Colin, Sarah, Amy, Andrew, Aileen, Tannis, Shawn, Adam, Lisa, Joseph, Christopher and Janine. Larry's grandchildren were very special to him and he encouraged, participated in and enjoyed each of their unique gifts and talents. Larry and his brother John shared a special bond, with cherished memories of their trip to Germany with their father and their love of golf. Mom, thanks from your family for your love and caring for dad and for being his rock and his energy through your 51 years of marriage. Dad, we love you and we'll miss you. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ross and Palliative Care for their kindness and caring. A special thanks to Mary Anne and Chris for their care and friendship. Larry was especially touched by the visits, kind words and shared memories from many of his friends and colleagues. A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews St. Cremation has taken place. Flowers gratefully declined. FREDERIC JOHN HYDE Born October 22, 1913 in Fisherton, MB. He lived in Fisherton area for 71 years, moved to Ashern, MB for 13 years, then to Winnipeg, MB for 1 year. WINNIFRED MARY KULDYS "WINNIE" (nee BERENS) On Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnifred Mary Kuldys passed away at the age of 72 years. She leaves to mourn her children, Matilda Gibb (Jim), Stanley Kuldys Jr. (Karen), Earl Kuldys (Marian), Marie Hopp (Walter), Hazel Pouliot, Barbara Kuzma (Michael), Betty Russell (Kevin), Charlotte Gladney (Chris); her grandchildren, Cheryl, Sharon, Michelle, Ryan, Elysse, Corey, Jennifer, Danielle, Tannis, Brad, Colin, Amy, Donavan, Melissa, Cassandra, Sabrina, Rochelle and Shane; great-grandchildren, Kersten, Cairo and Ethan. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Kuldys Sr. and her parents, Charlotte and Gordon Berens. "Winnie" met her husband Stanley in 1951, started their family in Bissett, MB, moving to Windsor Park, Winnipeg where the family grew up. She spent the remaining years living between Winnipeg and Berens River. She was known as the "Bingo Lady". She was also actively involved in the Roman Catholic Church in Berens River. "Winnie" worked in a few different fields; dietary at St. Boniface Hospital, cook at the Pickel Lake Mine and catering. Later she became a translator and escort for Medical Services and Indian Affairs. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. "Winnie" considered all the generous people in Berens River her second family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grand-children. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Berens River Band. We also wish to thank the staff of 6E Geriatric Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital. NORMAN E. KUSCHEI December 1, 1941 - August 15, 2004 Norman passed away after a short illness. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Angela Kuschei; brother Arnold; and brother-in-law Paul Poulin. Norman will be sadly missed by his sister Laura Poulin; nieces, Kari, Elizabeth, Elayne; and nephew Christopher; sister-in-law Gail Kuschei and nephews, Kenneth, Michael, Steven, Mitchell and Nicholas. He attended St. Joseph's Parochial School and finished his schooling at Sisler High. He worked for Revenue Canada for 17 years before retiring. Many thanks to the Seven Oaks Hospital nurses on the 3rd floor, unit 4, and 5th floor, units 3 and 1, and especially to Dr. Kristjanson for the care and kindness shown to Norman and the family. DONALD MURDO MACFARLANE 1921 - 2004 On August 18, 2004 Donald Macfarlane quietly passed away at the age of 82 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Anna (nee Ruman); daughter Heather (Wayne); daughter Nancy (Matthew); son John (Barbara); and grandchildren, Trina and Tara Gogal; Robin, Rory and Ian Ellis, and Brett and Brylee Macfarlane. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Johanna (nee Morrison) and brother John Macfarlane. Donald was born
in Winnipeg in 1921 and returned to the Isle of Lewis, Scotland with his family for much of his childhood. He fought in the Second World War for the British Army and was stationed in Burma, Ceylon, and India. Upon discharge, Donald settled in Canada and arranged for his immediate family to join him. Donald began working for the CPR where he met Anna. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September. His was a life of caring and loving. He was a gentle and dedicated family man. He was an inquisitive tinkerer who loved gadgets and could fix anything. His greatest joy was his family who will greatly miss him. Donald spent many treasured days with his grandchildren, who all adored him. In following Donald's wishes, there will be no funeral services and a private family gathering will be held. IRMA (KIM) LEONA MAYNES (nee KOSS) With deep sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, aunt and grandmother following a brief struggle with cancer on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Irma is survived by her daughter Kathleen; her grandchildren, Tina, Cora-Les, James, Jenna-May, and Gina-Marie; one great-grandchild Isaac; one brother Harold Koss as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam on July 10, 2004. She was also predeceased by her parents, Helena and Frederick; her brother William; and three sisters, Millie, Ida and Dorothy. Irma was born
and raised in Winnipeg, MB. She married Samuel Maynes on February 27, 1945. They had a successful marriage which lasted 59 years, all but the last few months spent together in their own home. Friends and family were always important to her and she made every attempt to remain in contact with the various and dispersed members of her family. Irma worked for Robinson Little & Co. and Churchill High School. She retired from Churchill in 1981 when she and Sam moved to British Columbia. They lived in Surrey, BC for a number of years, returning to Winnipeg to spend more time with their grandchildren of whom they were both very proud. Irma attended Immanuel Lutheran Church all of her life, returning there when she and Sam returned to Winnipeg. Irma loved to swim and walk as remaining active was important to her. She took an interest in her flowers and plants, her reading, playing bridge and talking with friends. She also enjoyed the symphony, the arts in general, current affairs, politics, and baseball. She had and abiding love for her faith, which sustained her through life. She took great pride in her grandchildren and talked about them frequently. She was a very pleasant, friendly person who many people loved and admired. She will be sorely missed. "Death only comes to let us know we love more deeply than we show. But love in death should let us see what love in life should always be." The family would like to thank the staff and Dr. M. Garcea at Riverview Palliative Care for their care and compassion. LOUIS RAYMOND McLEAN Raymond McLean of Corkstown Road, Ottawa, died on August 20, 2004, in his 89th year. He was born
in Winnipeg on August 27, 1915, son of George McLean and Jane Ann McKinnon, both of Glengarry County, ON and of Winnipeg. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Renee Marie (Lovatt), and by his sister Rita Nemish of Winnipeg. Raymond is remembered with love and pride by his daughters, Marianne, Janet and Monica, by their husbands, Philip Goldring, Richard South and Eugene Balangero; and by his grandsons, Dmitri, Hugh, Alexander and Colin Goldring and by Ann and Ian Blicq of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his younger brother George and his granddaughter Catherine South. A Highland Canadian, he leaves cousins and friends from coast to coast. Above all, Raymond was a husband and father. He was also a family tradition-bearer, a philatelist, a traveller, a raconteur and an active member of Catholic parishes in four provinces. The boyish streak of mischief that never left him was disciplined by 47 years of service to Credit Foncier Franco-Canadien, beginning as an office assistant in Winnipeg 1933. He joined the RCAF in 1940 and was attached to the RAF in England and the Middle East as a radar mechanic until 1945. Returning to Credit Foncier, he was transferred to Montreal in 1958, becoming internal auditor and mortgage manager. He retired in 1980. Raymond and Renee lived briefly in Victoria, BC, then settled in Ottawa in 1982 to be near family. His death, following a tragic accident on August 5, curtailed a life of shining integrity, rich in learning and in love. He will be buried in Winnipeg. Robert is survived by his mother Muriel McMurchy, his two sons, Colin and Sean McMurchy, daughter Heather McMurchy and his two granddaughters, Kayla and Caleigh McMurchy. Robert was a longtime employee with the RCMP and was an active supporter of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps. ALMA VERA MOSHER It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Vera on August 16, 2004 at Deer Lodge Centre at 102 years young. Vera was predeceased by her parents Ezekiel 'Whitney' and Hannah Mosher, brothers, Arnold, John, Emerson, Wilson 'Red', Floyd (Judy) and and sisters, Mary (Art) Thompson and Blanche (Auril) Decaire (Ernie) Tough and niece Louise Decaire Baker. Vera was a beloved Great Aunt to Jodi (Jamie) Hutchison and Holly (Scott) Brooker. Also a Great Great Aunt to Joshua and Jaden Hutchinson. She will be remembered and sadly missed by all, including niece Marilyn Russel, nephew Joe Mosher, staff and residents of Deer Lodge and many friends and neighbours. Vera was the first of eight children, born
May 25, 1902 in the Pattulo area six miles north of Stratton, Ontario. She lived there with her family working on the homestead often helping neighbours by babysitting their children. She worked in Winnipeg, Manitoba in a domestic capacity for many years before eventually returning to live with her family in Stratton. In the 1930's she was very active in the Bethany Church and was known to collect autographs of parishioners and missionaries whom she attended church with. Vera's favourite pastimes were making crab apple jelly and gardening. We will miss Vera's charm, spirit, and gentle tickles. DORA NOSALUK On Wednesday, August 18, 2004, Dora Nosaluk, beloved wife of Mychajlo, passed away suddenly at her residence at the age of 76. Besides her loving husband of 53 years, Dora is survived by two children, Ihor (wife Bonnie) and Borys (wife Tracy); two grandchildren, Erin and Erik; as well as numerous relatives in Ukraine. Dora was born
in Horyslawyczi, Ukraine on August 28, 1927 and married Mychajlo on October 27, 1951 in Bradford, England. They immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1952, where they raised their children and made many friendships. Dora was a loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her hard work ethic and generosity. Separated from her family in Ukraine at a very young age due to the war, she never forgot her roots and supported her relatives in any way she could. She also instilled in her children and grandchildren, a pride in their Ukrainian heritage and language. We are very grateful to both her friends at the Villa and our friends of the family for their help and support. As well, thank you to the wonderful Homecare staff who attended to our mother and father daily. It was a great comfort to our family. CLIFFORD CARROLL OLSEN It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of Clifford Carroll Olsen on Monday, August 16, 2004 at Pine Falls Hospital. With his family and dearest friends at his side Cliff gently left us to hold the hand of his beloved daughter Karen. Cliff leaves behind to mourn his passing but to also celebrate his life, his wife and soul mate Joanne; his daughter Wendy and her husband Rodney; his son Keith and his wife Catherine; and his beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Teri, Cori, Kaleigh, Alexander and Ashley; along with his brothers, Donald and Thomas. Along with his family, Clifford leaves a multitude of fond memories to his many good friends who played such a special part in his life. Clifford was born
in Starbuck, MB and moved to Winnipeg in his teens where he graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Shortly after high school he found employment for the City of Winnipeg and as fate would have it is here that he met his true love, Joanne with whom he would share such a wonderful and full life. In 1956 he started his 37-year career as an employee of Manitoba Hydro, which found him relocating to beautiful Great Falls, MB a town that he soon fell in love with. This change allowed him to meet his wonderful group of life long friends "The Bunk House Boys". In 1958 he married Joanne and a year later became a proud father. In 1963 Cliff and Joanne suffered the worst hardship that parents can experience with the loss of their youngest daughter Karen to pneumonia. Clifford stayed with his little angel never leaving her side until the end. Despite this tragedy Clifford remained a loving, caring person and a devoted father. He gave Wendy and Keith the most wonderful childhood that one could ask for. In 1967 Cliff and family moved up to Grand Rapids where he was able to enjoy many of his favourite activities including fishing, snowmobiling, camping, and curling. In 1972 the move was on again this time to Winnipeg and then on to St. Andrews in 1976. It was in 1981 that fate would bring him back to Great Falls when the opportunity to buy a beautiful piece of land soon led to the building of the "House the Love Built". Over the next several years Cliff and Joanne together painstakingly built their dream house which became the source of much pride and enjoyment for the entire family. After retiring in 1993 Cliff became a gifted craftsman beautifully creating countless pieces of woodwork. The most cherished of which are the toys that he crafted for his grandchildren that have brought them such happiness. These treasures will certainly be passed down for generations to come. Retirement also allowed Cliff to pursue some of his other favourite pastimes including visiting with family and friends, golf, and travel. Cliff will be missed by all who knew him for his remarkable sense of humour, kindness, his compassion, and his gentle soul. Cliff and Karen's souls flew off into the evening on the wings of two beautiful eagles and Great Falls was graced with the most glorious of rainbows that has ever shone in the sky. Special thanks the wonderful nurses at Pine Falls Hospital, your care and compassion for both Cliff and his family. It was truly appreciated. A casual dress memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27 at the Community hall in Great Falls, MB. Ties are not welcome! ANN SHEILA PARKER-OXLEY (nee WEBSTER) Peacefully, with her family beside her, Ann Sheila Parker-Oxley passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre on Tuesday, August 17, 2004. She will be sadly missed by her beloved daughters, Diane Troubridge (Robert), and Joanne Stuart (Ian); grandsons, Anthony Troubridge (Maria), Stephen Troubridge and Andrew Stuart; great-grandchildren, Andre Silva (Natasha), Veronica Silva and Christopher Silva; and her sister Beryl Hoyles of Gravesend, Kent, England. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joe on March 18, 1995. Ann Sheila Webster was born
on October 28, 1921. She married Joseph Newsome Parker-Oxley on September 10, 1936 and they celebrated 55 happy years together. Ann and Joe immigrated to Canada from England in June 1970 and resided in Winnipeg for 16 years. Shortly after retiring, Ann and Joe moved to Winnipeg Beach, where Ann has resided for the past 18 years. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed the theatre and watching skating on television. She loved all animals and especially enjoyed looking after her friend's pets while their owners were on vacation. Ann was a member of the Winnipeg Beach Royal Canadian Legion No. 61. She was an active member of the Winnipeg Beach COPP and patrolled regularly until a couple of weeks before her passing. "Thank you" to Dr. E. Magerman and the nursing staff of the Gimli Community Health Centre for the loving care they gave to Ann. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Bartholemew's Anglican Church, Winnipeg Beach with Rev. Ken Pawluk officiating.
