Susan was predeceased by her Dad, Robert W. Horley, in November 2003. Susan was born icon May 28, 1965, in Kenora, ON. She was brought up in the town of Sioux Narrows, ON and on the family island at the Lake of the Woods. Her schooling took place in Sioux Narrows, Kenora, and the University of Manitoba where she earned her degree in Human Ecology with a minor in Commerce (1989). Susan also completed her degree in Adult Education through St. Francis Xavier (2002). Sue and Bill met in Sioux Narrows in the summer of 1985 and were married in December 1986. They settled in Kenora, for a few years and then moved to Winnipeg to complete their university. Sue worked for Manitoba Housing (Winnipeg, 1988 to 1990), Committee for Skill Development and Human Resources Canada (Kenora 1991 to 1997) and for the Manitoba Department of Education as a training co-ordinator and creator of training opportunities (Winnipeg 1997 to 2004). Sue loved her career and all the people she worked with. Sue always wanted to help people do better and was an inspiration to many over the years. Sue's greatest joys involved her family. She was a great supporter of her boys and was always encouraging, loving and proud of everything they did. She supported her husband Bill in all his business endeavours (A&W), she loved being involved with Derek and Brock in school, sports, travelling, fishing and during family time, especially at the family cottages (Coney Island and the Sanctuary Resort) on Lake of the Woods. Our happiest memories are of the love and the companionship we shared with each other and our boys, families, relatives, friends, neighbours and co-workers. We have been blessed to have so many special people in our lives. Sue's laughter, her love, her fighting spirit, and her infectious positive attitude will never be forgotten. Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2002. After the initial shock, she became determined that we would all relate to her with love and happiness, not with sadness. She fought as hard as she could, wanting to be as much a part of life as possible. Sue faced her illness with strength, courage, determination and bravery, determined she would win. Sue never quit making sure she did everything she could to try to get things back to normal. Sue will be our hero and inspiration in the days and years to come. Special thanks to CancerCare Manitoba and all the people in all the medical communities that we encountered, especially the staffs at the oncology departments under CancerCare Manitoba, at St. Boniface General Hospital and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Very special thanks to Dave, my brother and business partner, who gave Sue and I the time together we needed to fight the war against cancer.
