FRANCISCA van HAAREN

September 01, 2004

FRANCISCA (FRANCES) van HAAREN (nee MUNSTERS) Frances van Haaren passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at Victoria General Hospital on August 27, 2004 with her son Peter at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Jan; sons, Frank, John and Henk; and thirteen brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Peter; grandchildren, David, Ricky, John, Brian, Michelle and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Stephan and Stephanie; daughter-in-law Valerie; and three sisters-in-law, Mien, Bertha and Marietje and numerous nieces and nephews. "Mom, Oma, Cisca, Tante Cis" was the matriarch of our family and lived up to her role with fervour, class and style. Her life was filled with many challenges, all of which she faced with courage and dignity. Her support to family in time of need was unparalleled. In 1960, as a recent widow, Frances followed her three siblings, Piet, Martien and Dora and emigrated from Holland with her four sons. She travelled extensively with her favourite companion, her sister and best friend, Dora. Their stories have entertained family for years. Tante Cis was famous for her poems and tributes at family occasions. The sound of her hearty laugh lingers as a most cherished memory. She loved to sing the Dutch songs, and with the slightest encouragement from family, had no hesitance taking centre stage. Even though legally blind, her passion for cards never diminished. Frances celebrated her 97th birthday just two weeks ago and as usual, accomplished it with style. It is a mark of her strength and endurance to note that she is the first in the Munsters family in 500 years to make it past the age of 90. Her mainstay was her family, especially her niece Peggy who was devoted to her care. Tante Cis cherished calls and visits from her grandchildren and especially the frequent visits from her only remaining son Peter. "Cisca, thank you for the wonderful example you set for us. Your gifts of love, laughter, and courage will always be remembered." The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital 3rd floor, especially Nicole and Paul for their outstanding care. Family and friends are invited to celebrate this very special lady's life on Friday, September 3 at St. Ignatius Church, Stafford and Corydon at 11:00 a.m..
