GLORIA JOAN CHOP September 24, 1940 - September 9, 2004 Peacefully on September 9, 2004, Gloria Chop passed away at the Riverview Hospital at the age of 63. Gloria was born
in the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, William Fitzgerald on August 14, 1976, and Constance (Chambers) Fitzgerald on January 30, 1995. Gloria will be sadly missed by her husband, Peter Chop and lovingly remembered by her only daughter, Connie Anne Creran. She was a wonderful and dedicated mother. Her life was centred around her daughter, Connie, in whom she had instilled many principles and memories. Happy times were spent at the summer cottage at Matlock, where they tended the flowers and the garden, listening to the birds singing and watching them build their nests. For the care given to Gloria, we thank Dr. John Moncek, the Nursing Staff at Riverview Hospital, Floor No. 3, and the Paramedics. In keeping with Gloria's request, cremation has taken place. A private Burial will be held to honour her memory at the Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. FREDERICK JULIUS COYLE With much sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Frederick Julius Coyle on September 8, 2004. Fred is survived by his daughter Darlene Coyle; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Alan Gavronski; son Robert in Vancouver; sister Terri Wookey; and many friends, nieces, nephews and relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Minnie and son Brian. Fred was born
and raised on Yale Avenue in the south of Winnipeg. He attended St. Ignatius School and Kelvin High School plus attending Wesley College (University of Winnipeg). Fred's working career saw him spend many years at Scott National as a salesman and then in his later years as a real estate agent, which he truly enjoyed. Fred loved his family and friends and charmed many a people with his character, wit and keen sense of humour. His fondness for animals was evident throughout his life and being a pet in Fred's life meant that you would live long and content, as he would give you the utmost care. The family would like to thank the wonderful care givers and doctors at Riverview Health Centre 3 East Wing for their care and support in Fred's time of need. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. HARVEY DESJARLAIS Peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Central Park Lodge - Parkview Place, Harvey Desjarlais passed away at the age of 90 years. Although our hearts are filled with sadness on the passing of our father Harvey (John Bull) Desjarlais, we have chosen to celebrate his life. Harvey will be remembered as a man with dignity, strength, kindness, humility and a good sense of humour. He loved hunting, fishing and a good game of horseshoes. With his conversations in French he often spoke of fond memories of his chip stand (Russell's) in St. Laurent, MB. His best friend and companion, was his loving dog Taffy. Harvey, an accomplished musician held weekly barn dances in St. Laurent. He loved to sing, play the fiddle and the guitar. He took great pride in the musical accomplishments of his children. He served overseas from 1944 - 1946. Harvey was predeceased by his two sons, Russell and Keith. He is survived by his daughters, Helen, Diane, Lucille, Barbara, Gloria, Audrey and Karen; sons, Victor and Lionel; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother Eugene; and sister Rose. EVA EMMA DUFILY (nee ST. LAURENT) Peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Eva was called by Our Lord to Heaven at the age of 99 years. Born in Cantal, SK. On January 10, 1905 Eva led a long and healthy life. The youngest of six children Eva was raised in numerous towns throughout Saskatchewan prior to settling in Oak Lake, MB. There she met the love of her life Joseph Alfred Maxine Dufily, they moved to Lac du Bonnet where they were married. While in Lac du Bonnet Eva and Alfred toiled at many ventures including their own plumbing business and a restaurant. Eva and Alfred were married for 28 years and had two daughters, Aileen and Margaret prior to Alfred's passing in 1961. Eva is also predeceased by her daughter Margaret in 1992 and son-in-law Roy Kaiser in 1993. Later in life Eva travelled and enjoyed the company of numerous friends. Eva's golden years were spent with family, being cared for by her daughter Aileen and granddaughter Colleen until her passing. Eva leaves to mourn her passing daughter Aileen Kaiser; grandchildren, Gordon Kaiser (Mayuka), Alfred Kaiser (Sara), Richard Kaiser (Dana), Colleen Mirwaldt (Thomas), Cheryl Berkshire (Brian), Michelle Daves (Graham), Lisa Burgess (Roger), Mark Vanderhagen, Patricia Deschenes (Denver) and fourteen grandchildren. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care of the nursing staff on the third and fifth floors of the Seven Oaks Hospital. ELSIE BERTHA GELHORN/LANG (nee KREGER) May 18, 1916 - September 8, 2004 Elsie's life journey ended peacefully in the arms of her family on Wednesday, September 8, 2004. A light has gone from our lives and we will miss her more than she will ever know but we take comfort in the fact that she is now at peace and are eternally grateful for all the love and beautiful memories she leaves in our hearts. Elsie was born
in Camper, MB and moved to Winnipeg as a young child. She was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg and while she had the opportunity to travel extensively she believed Winnipeg was the best place in the world to live. Her parents, Alex and Pauline Kreger; her loving husbands, George Gelhorn and Jack Lang; her eldest daughter Eileen Kern; her brother Bill Kreger; and her much loved granddog Berkley predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Gelhorn and granddaughter Shawna Pachal; her daughter Georgina and son-in-law Bruce Thomson and grandsons, Peter and Ian and in Texas her grandchildren, Brenda, Belinda, Brandt and Blair; her great-grandchildren, Heather, Melissa, Ryan, Amber, Adam, Haley, Candy and Caylee; and her great-great-grandbabies, Hannah, Nathaniel Shawn and Emma. Her sister Mary Brodinsky, her sister-in-law Vicky Kreger and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Along with her immediate family she will be missed by her best friend and "Sistah" Mary Schmidt, her loving niece Lorraine Warsaba, her loving nephew, Larry Brodinsky, and her chosen family, Ruth and Jim Komishon, Heidi Streu, Lynda Boxall, Karen Busby and Griffin. Her door was always open and she was happiest when she was cooking and feeding her family and friends. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and kept Hallmark in business with the number of get well and all occasion cards she sent. Her most enjoyable times were spent at the family cottage at Grand Beach and more recently at her granddaughter Shawna's home on Lake Lac du Bonnet. She loved the simple things in life - a great polka, toe-tapping music, playing cards with her sisters-in-law - Mary Schmidt, Helen Gelhorn, Senda Gelhorn and Barbara Gelhorn (which she did every Wednesday for over 50 years), red shoes, red hair, a new blouse (the most colourful possible - preferably with sparkles) and holding her grandchildren's hands. She instilled in her family, whom she referred to as her "chickens", some of life's most important lessons - hug and kiss those you love when you arrive and when you leave (and a few times in between), never miss an opportunity to tell someone you love them, keep your promises, talk to a stranger that may be your new best friend, marry for love (but only if they can dance), always wear a pressed shirt, never pass up a sale, take lots and lots of pictures, and as long as you have, "pepper in your shaker", pursue your dreams. A service celebrating Elsie's life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 815 Inkster Blvd., at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11. Her family won't be wearing black! Flowers gratefully declined. ELISE LUCILLE GUERET It is with deepest sorrow that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, Elise Lucille Gueret (nee Bedard) at the age of 78 years. After a lengthy courageous battle with cancer Mom passed away peacefully at the Bethesda Hospital on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 2:05 p.m. Elise will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Roger (Brenda), Gilbert (Leanna), Robert (Rose); her daughter-in-law Mary (Joe); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and "adopted" son Joe Ruhe (Pat). She also leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Noe (Helene) Bedard; sister Louise (Peter) Dyck; sister Marie Hughes; sister Angeline Grimard; sister-in-law Marie Bedard; and many nieces and nephews. Elise was predeceased by her husband Ignace in 1995; her son Paul in 2000. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors for their excellent care of Elise during her stay in the hospital. GARRY HILDEBRAND In loving memory of Garry Hildebrand, aged 52 years of Sioux Lookout, who passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 5, 2004 in Rathwell, MB. Garry Hildebrand is survived by his loving wife Marian and two children, David and Kimberly Hildebrand. He is also survived by two brothers, Dwight Hildebrand (Pat) of Sioux Lookout, Dennis Hildebrand (Chris) of Thunder Bay; two sisters, Sharon Zarecki (Mike) of Sioux Lookout and Bonnie Johnston (Paul); and his mother Greta Sinclair of Nanaimo, BC. Garry Hildebrand is also survived by his niece Erin of Ottawa; nephews, Kyle of Sioux Lookout and Kevin (Candace) of Dryden; niece Morgan of Nanaimo; niece Melissa of Sioux Lookout; and nephew Colin of Sioux Lookout. He will be sadly missed by the Hossie family of Perth and Kemptville and many relatives and friends who knew him. DONALD HRABINSKY Donald (Bohdon) Leo Hrabinsky, 69, of Winnipeg, MB, Canada passed away suddenly at his son's home in Michigan on September 5, 2004. Don was born
in Winnipeg on June 26, 1935. He was the third son to Carrie and Peter Hrabinsky. In 1963, he met and married the love of his life, Myrna J. Hagan and moved to Winnipeg to begin their family. Don was preceded in death by his parents and youngest son Donald Kerry in November 2002. Don is survived by his wife Myrna; and his oldest son Clarence Kelly (Jill) and grandsons, William Bohdon, Harrison Kelly and Theodore Kerry; daughter-in-law Jacqueline and grandchildren, Ethan Seth and Talia Caelin; brothers, Nestor (Barbara), Terry (Hedy), Adam (Judy), Harry (Judy); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. H. LINN JOHNSTON Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. It is with sadness that the family of Linn Johnston announces his death. He passed away peacefully with dignity and grace on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre with his wife by his side. He will be remembered with love by his wife Verna; daughter Diane (Alasdair) Lunn of Ladysmith, BC; daughter-in-law Charlene; son Ian (Liisa) of Ottawa; and his much loved grandsons, Peter and Robert Lunn of Victoria, David and Mark Lunn of Ladysmith, Steven and Kevin Johnston of Winnipeg and Warren of Ottawa; brother-in-law Allan (Norma) Craig of Ottawa; sister-in-law Ivy LeBlanc of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews; and three cousins in Britain. Predeceased by his beloved son Craig (2002) and his parents, Hugh (1962) and Janet (1990). Linn was born
on June 1, 1929 in Winnipeg where he lived all his life. He was a graduate of Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba where he obtained a degree in Commerce (1950) and graduated as a Chartered Accountant (1954) when he received the Gold Medal for Manitoba. He was an Alumnus of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He retired from Great-West Life Assurance Co. in 1991 as Vice-President, Internal Audit after almost 36 years and was one of the founding members of Great-West Life Annuity. A man of intelligence with very high principles, his family always came first, was a model of quiet integrity and strength for them all, leaving them with a love of travel and books. Friends were important to Linn and he made and kept in touch with many all through his life starting from Grade One. Linn and Verna were married on April 7, 1956, enjoyed travelling together, their 21 years at their cottage on Lake of the Woods, their 11 winters in Naples, FL where they met and enjoyed many American friends, and most of all their seven grandsons, all of whom made him proud. The family is grateful to the doctors and nurses at Riverview Health Centre and for Palliative Care help during his final illness at home. Many thanks to all his family and friends who visited, giving (and sending) their support and prayers; to all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba; Drs. Sutherland, Butler and Navaratnam and Candace Myers, Speech Pathologist; and to Dr. Maurice Shnider for his compassion and caring for over 40 years. CELEDONIO "CELE" MARTIN Peacefully, and on his own terms, selfless husband, heroic father, and inspiring friend, Cele decided to end his lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 7, 2004. Always a brave adventurer, Cele emigrated from Spain in 1968 without a job and very little in his pocket. 36 years later, he's left our country and our world a better place than he found it. Cele had an uncanny knack for positively affecting all those who were fortunate enough to be in his company. He gave new meaning to the expression "give more than you take." Cele was an outdoors enthusiast who loved a lengthy road trip. Punctuated by his eventual pilgrimage to Sturgis for the annual motorcycle rally. He took great pleasure from a hike in the mountains, a swim in the lake, or a soccer ball being booted through the goalposts by himself or one of the many kids he coached. An accomplished mechanic with CP Rail, Cele was someone who succeeded at any task put before him. Aside from specializing under the hood, he was an architect, welder, engineer, plumber, electrician, carpenter, landscaper, you name it. There was no project that was too difficult for him to complete...with perfection. Onlookers were always amazed that the work never stopped, until the job was done. Cele's drive and determination were vividly evidenced on one of his last days, when he summoned a beer from his hospital bed. Upon arrival of the cold suds, he ripped it from the hands of his son, cracked it open, chugged it without hesitation, and demanded "another"! His biggest achievements are not hanging in frames on the walls of his house, instead displayed by the people who live there. Cele was always more concerned with being a husband and a father than he was with any other accolades. He will be always cherished, and dearly missed by Marisa, his loving wife of 33 years; his two adoring children, Jessica and Danny; as well as a multitude of friends and family who span many continents and numerous countries. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph The Worker Roman Catholic Church, 505 Brewster St. with Rev. Fr. Richard Machura presiding. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the oncology department at the Victoria General Hospital, as well as the staff on the fourth floor at the Health Sciences Centre.
