Davey, Linda It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Linda Davey. Linda is survived by her loving soul mate, Jim Deacon, her mother Myrtle Johnston, sisters Hazel, Jessie (and family), brother Kenneth (Dorothy), eight nieces and nephews and sixteen great nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by her father Sydney. Linda moved to Alberta in 1980 where she was employed by Don Davis & Sons Petroleum for nineteen years. When the owner retired and closed the business, Linda became employed by Milne & Craighead where she found her true niche in life as a collector for the firm. She will be missed by her co-workers and friends from Milne and Craighead and parent company Canadian Freightways. Linda loved to camp, travel and sightsee. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #78, Turner Valley. A Funeral Service was held at Lewis Memorial United Church, Turner Valley, on Monday, December 22, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment followed at Foothills Cemetery, Black Diamond. Diller, M. Joan (nee Taylor)
Diller, M. Joan (nee Taylor) of High River passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary on Sunday, December 14th, 2003. Joan was born March 5th, 1923 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, daughter of British pioneers. Joan moved to Bowness at a very young age where she spent her childhood and teenaged years. In the spring of 1945 she met the love of her life, Gordon Diller who was training with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Calgary. They were married December 29th, 1945 in Calgary. They spent the next thirty years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, residing across Canada and the U.S. Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Gordon; her two daughters and their husbands Leslie and Ric Yeager; Holly and Cam Camden and her two sons Al Diller and Keith and Michaelyn Diller. Joan was a very loving grandmother to nine adoring grandchildren and one brand new great granddaughter. Joan will be remembered for her outgoing, friendly and tenacious personality. Some of her happiest times were spent painting, writing, collecting teddy bears and spending time with her family. Even though she suffered from multiple sclerosis for the past sixteen years, it never slowed her down or dampened her spirits. As per Joan’s request, her remains will be spread over the mountains of the Kananaskis, an area she truly loved. There will be a celebration of Joan’s life on Saturday, December 20th at 2:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Medicine Tree Place in High River. If friends desire, contributions may be made to the Ladies’ Auxiliary to the High River Hospital, c/o Joyce Kyle, 720 Riverside Dr. N.W., High River, T1V 1S3 or to the High River Hospital Foundation (for the palliative care unit), 560 – 9th Ave. W., High River, T1V 1B3. Garden, Mary Jane
Garden, Mary Jane of Millarville, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on December 13, 2003 at the age of 47 years. Mary Jane will be dearly missed by her 2 sons Kris and Devon, brothers John (Brenda) and Grant (Brenda), her husband Robert and father Merril. Mary Jane was a teacher for 6 years at the Millarville School. A Memorial Service was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 200 Woodgate Rd. McLean, Kenny
McLean, Kenny suddenly left this world on December 17th, 2003. He was born November 16th, 1934 in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan. Kenny moved to Alberta in 1968 and has resided in the High River area for the past 25 years. Kenny was a hard working cowboy who spent many hours in the saddle doing what he loved. It is very appropriate that he died while riding Gus. Kenny will be remembered as a great neighbor who was always willing to lend a hand, a wonderful friend and an even greater father. He is survived by Elaine, the mother of his six children; Tim (Corrie) McLean of Moose Jaw, Lisa McLean of Calgary, Joe (Marilyn) McLean of Lethbridge, Wanda (Scott) Moreau of Phoenix, AZ, Tammy (Dale) Isherwood of Lethbridge, Shawn (Jerri) McLean of High River. He will be also missed by his grandchildren; Jesse, Cary, Jennilee, Bobbi, Cole, Kadie, Taylor and Brianne. Surviving siblings are Dennis McLean (Doris), Wood Mountain, SK, Donald McLean of Woodland, CA and several nieces and nephews. Kenny had several close friends and the family would like to acknowledge Bob Dyck, Frank Noble and Dale Hendrickson and may others too numerous to mention. A memorial service was held at the Highwood Memorial Centre, High River on Monday, December 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend R.W. Slocombe officiating. Miller, Margaret Isobelle
Miller, Margaret Isobelle passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, December 12th, 2003 at the age of 81 years. Peggy will be dearly missed by her sons Vern Baldwin and Russell Baldwin (Terry) of Calgary and daughter Lynn Flanders (Murray) of Okotoks. As well she is survived by her grandchildren Jason Stusick (Erin)of Lethbridge and Kimberley Marshall (Carl) of Hull England and her two brothers John (Jack) Miller of High River and Robert (Bob) Miller of Turner Valley and sister Lila Robinson of Youngstown. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and other family members and friends. She was born in High River and lived for her first 11 years on the family's farm near Longview. Her mother passed away when she was five years old so she and her brothers lived with their dad until he passed away six years later. Peggy then went to live with the Neil Ross family in High River, at which time she acquired a new sister, their daughter Lila. After she finished school she moved to Calgary where she met and married Harold Baldwin and had three children with him. She lived in Calgary until she moved to High River in 1999 where she lived for the rest of her life. Peggy loved to garden and she loved animals. For many years she raised championship Basenji dogs and she was never without a pet in her home. In the last few years she often pet sat for friends and acquaintances who left their pets in her loving care. Her family was the most important part of her life and she was always proud of her children and grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River. If desired memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta & N.W.T, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2G 9Z9. Nelson, Marlene
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Marlene Nelson on December 10th, 2003 at the age of 42 years. Marlene was born in Calgary on January 21st, 1961. She is survived by her loving husband Maynard, her loving children Tylor, Kelsie, Tyson, Tanya (Ryan) and numerous step-children along with her grandchildren Sara and Dustin. She is also survived by her mother Val (Ken) Sheridan, father Art (Doreen) Goodwin, her brothers Jim (Betty) Goodwin and Joe (Jamie) Sheridan, her grandmother Margaret Cameron as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. A funeral service was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 200 Woodgate Rd., Okotoks on Tuesday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Doug Powell officiating. Cremation followed at Parklawn Crematorium. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to Aventa, 2005 – 10th Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta T3C 0K4. Silvester, Charlie
Silvester, Charlie passed away suddenly at his home of heart failure on December 21, 2003 at the age of 76 years. Charlie was born the tenth of thirteen children to Ernest and Alice Silvester at Kew, Alberta on August 13, 1927. He is survived by his sisters May Silvester of Calgary and Alice Hampton of Turner Valley and his brother Jim Silvester (Kathy) of Square Butte. Charlie attended Square Butte School riding or walking the two and a half miles each way everyday. After-school hours and weekends were spent helping with the many chores on his mum and dad’s homestead. At the age of sixteen Charlie went to work for Tom Merriam feeding cattle in the winter and operating cat for Howard Hampton during the spring, summer and fall. In 1950 he worked for Alex Shaw of Carstairs and in 1951 for J. Schrader of Olds. In 1952 Charlie purchased the NW1/4 of Sec. 8, Twp. 20, R3, W5 from his brother Arthur where he managed his own ranching operation right up until the time of his death. In 1954 Charlie obtained a forest reserve grazing permit in the Muskeg which was originally for 25 head of cattle but was later increased to 50 head. Over the years Charlie worked closely with Howard and Alice Hampton on their ranch; feeding cattle during the winter months for Russ and Jack Broomfield and helping Herb McEathron with the fall threshing until Herb decided combining was easier. In his younger years Charlie enjoyed the great outdoors, particularly, hunting and fishing. He was a highly skilled cattleman and enjoyed spending time riding the range and checking his herd. As the threat of bears to his cattle in the Muskeg was constant, he could relate many good bear hunting stories. Charlie remained a bachelor his entire life. Cremation took place at Parklawn Crematorium. A memorial tea was held for Charlie on December 28, 2003 at Sunset Lanes in Turner Valley, Alberta. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 3Y6.

Ballard, Ruth Verda
Ballard, Ruth Verda of Okotoks, passed away at the Willow Creek Auxiliary Hospital on May 10, 2004 at the age of 94 years. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Clive in 1984 and by twin siblings Ray Butterfield and Fay Vetter in 1998. She will be lovingly missed by her children, Jurene (Gordon) Olmstead of Calgary, Charles Ballard of Lethbridge and daughter-in-law Patti Ballard of Calgary. Grandsons Keith (Kathy), Paul, Mark, Criston (Kelly), Sean (Janice). Great Grandchildren Siobhan, Chantal, Teagan, Paige and Aiden. Ruth was born at Veteran Alberta. She graduated as a R.N. at the Calgary General Hospital in 1931. She married in 1938. They lived in various towns throughout Alberta until settling in Okotoks in 1971. Ruth resided at the Sandstone Lodge since 1990. She was an active participant in the Okotoks Community. A Evening visitation and prayer service was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 200 Woodgate Rd. Okotoks, on Thursday, May 13th between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, Okotoks, on Friday, May 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Interment took place at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. If desired, in memory of Ruth memorial tributes may be considered to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, T2G 3Y6 or to the Alberta Lung Assoc. 302, 609 – 14 Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 2A1. Banks, Joyce K. (Kientz)
Banks, Joyce K. (Kientz) of Okotoks, passed away peacefully at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre on May 26, 2004 after a short courageous fight with cancer. Joyce was born in Watson, SA. and moved to Calgary at a early age in 1941. In June 1955, she married Leonard Banks in Calgary. After having a family, they moved to a acreage near Okotoks. Joyce had a great love for her horses and participated in all her grandchildren’s sporting events. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dianne (Greg) Fox, Dale (Lori) Banks and Cindy (Rob) Wood. Grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Lynn, Fallon, Brandon, Dylan, Jordan and Sarah. She will also be missed by her sisters, Urma, Lorraine, Theresa and Rosemarie, brothers; Ray, Ralph, Alfred, Frank and Brian Kientz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Leonard, parents Alphonse and Theresa Kientz, sister Mary and brothers Vern and Ted Kientz. The family would like to thank the staff at the Tom Baker Centre, Unit 47 and a special thanks to Joyce’s friend and doctor Dr. Wasylenko. A Private family service will be held. Brose, Sharon
It is with great sadness that the family announce the peaceful death at her home of our beloved wife and mother, Sharon Brose, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Sharon was born in Moose Jaw on February 5, 1947. After graduating from Peacock Tech, she trained at the Moose Jaw General Hospital to become a registered lab tech and certified xray technician. In 1967 she moved to Calgary where she became employed at the Calgary General Hospital. Sharon was married to Cameron Brose in 1969 and a daughter, Julie, was born in 1973. Cam and Sharon moved to Kyle in 1974 to go farming. Their son, Kelly, was born in 1977. Sharon worked at the Kyle Hospital in the lab and x-ray department before changing careers to work at the Kyle Credit Union. Cam and Sharon moved to High River in 1998 where she enjoyed working part time in the lab in the High River hospital. Sharon loved her family and her friends. She enjoyed golfing, sewing, gardening, various clubs (book, gourmet cooking, Newcomer's and the Christian women's club), her church and her bible study group. Sharon is survived by her husband Cam, her children Julie and Kelly, her brother Ken Wood (Sharon), her sister-in-law Ruth (Bill Veldhuis) and her brother-in-law Marvin (Linda) as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Vera Wood as well as her parents-in-law Carl and Olga Brose. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, High River with Pastor Reg Berg officiating. Internment of cremated remains and a graveside service will occur at a later date at the Horse Butte Lutheran Church, Kyle, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, Sharon requested that donations, in her memory, be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 215 – 12th Ave. S.E. , Calgary, AB T2G 1A2. Arrangements in care of SNODGRASS FUNERAL HOME LTD., High River (652-2222).

Doane Orlo Leroy
Doane Orlo Leroy of High River passed away at the High River Hospital and Nursing Home on May 27th, 2004 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Della Doane of High River and his children Ethel (Gerry) Steiner, Ory Doane all of Vulcan, Delores (Art) Lange, Claresholm , Penny Nakahara, Vancouver along with ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Orlo was predeceased his daughter Donna. A private family memorial service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High River. An interment service will follow at the “Rock of Ages” Columbarium, Highwood Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the C.N.I.B., 15 Colonel Baker Place N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 4Z3 or to S.T.A.R.S., 1441 Aviation Road N.E., Box 570, Calgary, AB T2E 8M7.
