CONSTANCE FOULKES It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mum, Constance Foulkes, at the age of 82 years on September 17, 2004. Connie will join her husband, Stanley who passed away in 1994. Connie will be lovingly remembered by her son Colin (Michele); daughter Judy (Steve); and grandchildren: David, Carly, Nicholas, Andrew and Emily. Connie also leaves behind relatives in British Columbia and England who will miss her dearly including her sister Freda, and sister-in-law Ida. Connie will be fondly remembered by many of the residence at Richmond Gardens. A special thanks to her good friends Lydia and Nanette for their friendship over the years, and those we may have forgotten to mention. Connie's private funeral was held on September 23, 2004. EMMANUEL (MANNY) FREYNET Peacefully, following a lengthy illness, our beloved husband, father, grandpa and friend, Manny Freynet passed away on September 23, 2004 at Tache Centre at the age of 78 years. Manny was born icon on January 5, 1926 in Sandilands, MB. He was one of five children born icon to the late Achille and Alexina Freynet. He was predeceased by one daughter Jacqueline; his brother Aime and by two sisters, Irene and Elodie. He leaves to mourn his wife Alice; his brother Edgar; his children, Real (Irene), Valerie (John) and Daniel (Kimberley); grandsons, Rejean, Justin, Richard, Travis and Gage. Many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews also cherish his memory. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Tache Nursing Home for their personal and professional care of our father. A special thank you to Uncle Ed for being there for Dad every day and also to Alphonse, Dad's good friend and coffee buddy. He was employed at Parmalat Dairy for 36 years and more recently at Gerry Gordon Mazda. WILLIAM (BILL) HECTOR GIBSON March 17, 1919 - September 19, 2004 Peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2004 with his children at his side, Dad slipped away to be with his beloved wife Helen who predeceased him on June 16, 2004. Dad will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Catherine Robbins of Winnipeg, Helen I. Gibson of Lynn Lake and son David of Winnipeg; his grandchildren, Shannon Lee, Diana (Jim), Shaun (Stacy), Cara and Christa; his great-grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, Jacob, Chaisse and Austin; special family friend Pam (Rick) Dyer and family. Bill is also survived by his sister Charlotte Wright and in-laws, Sue (Joe) Kellsey, Bill Milne, Dave (Catherine) Milne and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Isabella Gibson; sisters, Elizabeth Eccles and Margaret Edgar; nieces, Beverly Woyna and Audrey Wright; in-laws, Cliff Eccles, Cecil Wright, Bill Edgar, Ruby Milne, Ann and Fern McGeachan and Sam McGarvie. Bill was born icon in Transcona, attended Transcona Central School from 1926 - 1935 and then Manitoba Technical Vocational School, where he took courses in Woodworking and Stationary Engineering. Graduating in 1938, he worked as a Plumbers' Helper until joining the C.N.R. in June 1939 as a Carman Apprentice, but took a leave of absence on September 9, 1939 to join the 19th Field Battery, RCA as a Signaller. He was stationed at McGregor Barracks until he left for training at the Signal School in Kingston, ON, returning to Winnipeg in time to entrain for Halifax, December 3, 1939 and sailed to the United Kingdom on December 10, 1939. Bill returned to Winnipeg as a Sergeant on February 9, 1945 on rotation leave after serving in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, and married Helen Milne, his wife of 59 years, on March 10, 1945. Upon discharge from the Army, following a posting to Camp Shilo as a Signal Instructor, he returned to the C.N.R. on September 4, 1945 to complete his apprenticeship. He worked in the Freight Car and Coach Shops as a Carman, as Material Manager in the Freight Car Shop, in the Foreign Billing Unit, then was promoted to Assistant Foreman supervising gangs in both the Freight and Coach Shops until he retired in March, 1979 as a Supervisor, three months short of forty years of service. Bill joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7 in 1946 and throughout his lifetime of dedication to the Legion had been chairman of all the Standing Committees and served on the Branch Audit Committee, Branch Colour Party, two Special Building Committees and the Special Fire Investigation Committee. He served on the Graves Committee, during which he requested the city to set aside additional land for future use in the military section of Transcona Cemetery. He also served on the graves Restoration Committee, Mark Ten Wheelchair Committee, Winnipeg 100 Club Inc., Joint Veterans Liaison Committee, Joint Hospital Visiting Committee of which he was Chairman from 1990 - 1999, and the Winnipeg Metropolitan Committee. He was Chairman of the Provincial Command Action Committee during the Quebec crises, Co-chairman of the Provincial Command Shrine Circus Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Command Blood Donor Committee from 1979 - 1981 and Co-Chairman from 1981 - 1985, and was with the Provincial Command Hospital Committee from 1956 - 1989. Bill represented Zone 62 as delegate from 1958 - 2001 and also served as Zone Commander, Past Zone Commander and Branch Delegate during that time. He also represented District 6 as a delegate from 1958 - 2001 and also served as District Commander, Deputy District Commander, District Treasurer, District Auditor and Branch Delegate during that time. As well, he represented Provincial Command at the Provincial Command Council from 1977 - 1981 and was Provincial Command Honorary President from 1985 - 1987. Throughout his distinguished years of Legion service Bill earned many Awards and Certificates of Merit, including the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf. Bill was elected to two terms as a School Trustee between 1952 - 1955, was appointed to the Transcona Traffic Board from 1952 - 1955 and was also a member of the Sons of Scotland since 1956. Bill was active in the Westview Home and School Association, Parent's Committee of the 1st Transcona Cubs and was a member of the Transcona and District Pipers and Drummers Association. He was a member of the Railway Carmen of America and a member of the Railway Supervisor's Association of which he was President from 1977 - 1978 and a member of the Manitoba C.N. Pensioner's Association. The City of Winnipeg honoured Bill by naming the Canterbury Park street "William Gibson Bay" in recognition of his years of service to the community. Friends may call to pay their respects Sunday evening between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral Service to follow Monday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. also at the Chapel, with Chaplains, Paul Martin and John Diamond officiating. Pallbearers will be Shannon Lee Robbins, Diana Gluting, Shaun Robbins, Christa Robbins, Bill Edgar, Andrew Flook and Cara Robbins (honorary). WAYNE HAMILTON Suddenly on September 22, 2004, Wayne passed away with his son Dwayne by his side, at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 55 years. Wayne is survived by his wife of 29 years, Gerri; son Dwayne (Melissa); daughters, Chelsea-Leigh (Steve), Sacha (Randy); grandchildren, Darrien, Justin and Kayla. He also leaves to mourn his mother Marjorie Dillman; sisters, Margo (Peter) Bernard, Diane (Anne) Warren; nieces and nephews Eric, Marjorie, Teddy, Troy, Tony and Tara. He was predeceased by his father Eric Dillman. Wayne was raised in Dartmouth, NS and after marrying his wife they moved first to Regina and then back to Halifax, then to Ottawa and eventually moved to Winnipeg until his passing. Wayne was employed at Security Glass for most of his working life; he will be sadly missed by his friends at work, Crash, Ernie, Lee, Sherri, Dave, Glen, Trevor, Doug, Bill and many other co-workers including Gary. He worked 24/7 and dared any of us to try and stop him. Wayne was the most loving and caring person. For all of us whose lives he has touched, we will be forever grateful to him for all the love and care he has shown to us all. Wayne was always playing pranks on those he loved, and giving us that crazy grin of his, to show that he once again "got ya". Through good times and bad no one in the family ever doubted his love. They knew he would move heaven and earth for them to be happy. His natural kids and those he claimed as his "adopted kids" loved him and proudly called him Dad. We all knew no matter how full the house was, there was always room for one more. Wayne is irreplaceable, and as someone said, they broke the mold when they made him. Our Dad Had a smile that touched everyone's heart A smile we know never will part He's gone now But forever in our hearts We love you Daddy We'll see you soon You will never leave us As long as we remember The beautiful smile on your face. Mary was a member of the Christadelphian Ecclesia (Church). She also belonged to MSOS of 185 Smith St. Mary enjoyed crafts, gardening, baking, travelling, and truly loved being with family and friends. ALEXANDER (ALEC) HIRSCH Peacefully, after a brief illness, Alec passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the age of 84. Alec was predeceased by his parents, Reinhold and Martha; his brother Ludwig; and his son Gunter. He is survived by his wife Hulda; his children, Manfred (Mary), Ingrid (Russel) Dyck, Helga (Jake) Klassen, Rita (Victor) Giesbrecht, Alvin (Angie); and daughter-in-law Arlene; 16 grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Alec was born icon in Weide, Germany on October 6, 1919, the oldest of seven children and the only one to move to Canada. Alec and Hulda were married in Germany on May 23, 1947, a union blessed by six children, three boys and three girls. They immigrated to Canada in 1952 with two young sons in tow. After six months in Ontario, they settled in Winnipeg in 1953 where the remainder of the children were born. A lifelong entrepreneur, Alec began a trucking business delivering coal, and soon expanded to a fleet of gravel trucks, working in Northern Manitoba. In the mid 1970s, he was joined in "M & H Cartage" by his sons, Manfred and Gunter, and together they later established M & H Rentals and Paragon Industries. Dad loved his work, especially working side by side with his sons. He also thoroughly enjoyed all the people he became acquainted with over the years. Our large family get-togethers were very special to Alec, and he always loved to have his children and grandchildren drop in or come over for a meal. He will be missed by all of us. A special thank you to the staff at Concordia Hospital. Dad often commented on their kindness and the excellent care he received. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 27 at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Rd., with viewing prior. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. MATO JEZIC Peacefully with his loving family by his side Mato Jezic passed away at the age of 71 at Seven Oaks Hospital on Wednesday September 22, 2004. He was predeceased by his parents Mladen and Trezia in Croatia, along with three dogs. Dad came to Canada in 1966 from Austria. He worked with Feed Rite for 32 years and retired at the age of 65. He loved fishing and spending special times with his family. Left to cherish his memory his wife Maria, children, Mladen (Linda), Trezia (Jason), Frank (Brenda), stepchildren, Suzi, Dominic, grandchildren, that he loved so much Mathew, Destiny, Sebastian, Kyle, Chantelle, Paige, along with numerous friends. JANE BARKER HAWKES KEAY (nee PATERSON) At her home on Sunday, September 19, 2004 Born January 30, 1915, to James and Alice Paterson of William Avenue, Jean grew up in Winnipeg. She was active in sports and especially enjoyed horseback riding. She worked for the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg and rose to the position of Chief Copy Editor in the catalogue department. Jean married Hugh Keay in 1951 and they moved soon after to Toronto, returning to Winnipeg in 1960. She settled in Transcona and built a wide circle of friends through volunteer work as a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club. Most of her family and relatives lived nearby and they had many years of happy times together. Jean and her sisters were accomplished piano players and music was a large part of every family gathering. Through her retirement, Jean remained active in senior's clubs and continued to touch everyone with her wonderful attitude, celebrating the little things in life and proudly enjoying her independent lifestyle. Kind and gracious, she always considered others ahead of herself. Her love of animals was well known and Jean adopted many stray and injured pets and made them part of her family. Jean delighted in her son James' family and was especially proud of grandchildren Lindsey and Michael, taking delight in their accomplishments and thinking of them constantly. She also admired and took inspiration from her brother Dave of Vancouver. Jean was predeceased by her parents, James and Alice Paterson; her great-aunt Louise; sisters, Mary (Gus) Bilodeau and Edna (Tony) Myska; her husband Hugh; and niece Anne Rand, all of Winnipeg. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Irene and their children, Lindsey and Michael of Texas. She is also survived by her brother David (Mary) Paterson; and niece Susan (Ken) Eberhardt and family of Vancouver; nephews, Robert (Barbara) Bilodeau, Dave (Brenda) Myska; niece Barbara Bilodeau and their families; in-laws, Koji and Shigeko Sato of Winnipeg, and Jane Keay and family in the Ottawa area. Jean will be dearly remembered for her wonderful spirit, compassion and love of life. She found enjoyment in everything she did and everyone she met. Jean set a remarkable example for her family to celebrate and live by, and we are all very grateful for her time with us. A private family service and interment took place Friday, September 24 at Green Acres Cemetery. GERRY SIDNEY KOFFMAN After a courageous battle with cancer, Gerry Koffman, aged 53, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2004 at his home in Winnipeg. Gerry was predeceased by his father Jack, and is survived by his mother Toby, wife Rachelle (Daien), children, Joshua and Jodi, sister Penny (Jerry Arenson) and brother Ken. Gerry was born icon in Winnipeg in 1951 and attended the University of Manitoba, with postgraduate work done at Carleton University in Ottawa. He dedicated the majority of his career to the Jewish community, in Winnipeg, North America, and in Israel. Gerry was an expert fundraiser, respected not only at home but also worldwide for his innovative ideas, efforts and boundless creative energy. In his spare time, Gerry enjoyed golf, music, and spending time with his loving family. Gerry was especially proud of his two children. A funeral service officiated by Rabbi Neal Rose and Cantor Gerry Daien was held on September 19 at Congregation Etz Chaim with interment at the Rosh Pina Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the medical personnel at Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion during Gerry's illness. PETER FREDERICK THOMAS LAMPRELL With sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, on September 21, 2004 peacefully at home, with his family by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline (Jackie); two daughters, Dorothy Stephens (Michael) of Winnipeg, and Beverly Catellier (Guy) of Dufrost, MB; four grandchildren, Ryan and Laura Stephens and Olivia and Jayden Catellier; his sister, Daphne James of Edmonton AB; brother-in-law Stanley Scudder (Elizabeth) of Shuswap Lake, B.C., and several nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Sidney Lamprell, and his brother-in-law Arthur James. Born on January 29, 1922 in St. James, he attended Linwood School and graduated in 1940. He then enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and trained at Trenton, Ontario as a fitter-armourer, following which he was stationed in Mossbank and Dafoe, Saskatchewan. In February 1942, he went overseas with the 406 Squadron, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After returning to Canada in 1945, he became a Graduate Jeweller of the Canadian Jewellers' Institute, and worked in the retail jewellery business at Breslauer and Warren for 38 years, retiring in 1987. Peter was a Past Master of St James Masonic Lodge No. 121 and received his 50-year Jewel in 2000. He was also a Past First Principal in St John's Chapter, a Royal Arch Mason for over 50 years and a life member of the Cryptic Rite. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 55 years, first with the Deer Lodge Branch and latterly with the St James Branch. After retirement he was active in the Air Force Association, proudly participating in the Garden of Memories ceremony in 1999. The family would like to thank all those who helped make Peter's last months comfortable and enabled him to stay home right up to the end; in particular the nurses and therapists on the palliative care team and at the Grace cancer clinic, the health care aides from home care and Central Health, the staff and residents of the Westhaven, and Dr M Stephensen. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Stephen and St Bede on Friday October 1st at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
