BETTY M. CARTER

Betty, 67, a former Colorado Springs resident, died March 28, 2001, at a Corydon, Iowa, hospital. She was an administrative assistant at Colorado Interstate Gas Co.

Betty was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Wayne County, Iowa, to Irven and Elizabeth Beam Carter, who are deceased.

She is survived by a brother, Charles Irven; two sisters, Barbara Jean Carter and Beverly Sue Haase; two brothers-in-law, Jim Kall and L.J. Haase; and a sister-in-law, Janice.

Services were held at Randolph Funeral Home, (641) 872-1410. Cremains will be scattered in the Rocky Mountains.

JERI ELLEN C. FINCH

Mrs. Finch, 58, died April 7, 2001, at her home in Monument. She retired as a procurement officer from civil service. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Finch was born June 1, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Willard J. and Catherine (McNamee) Wohlfarth. Her father is deceased. She was married Dec. 18, 1971, to Kenneth I. Finch Sr.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Steven K., Christopher B. and Kenneth I. Jr.; three daughters, Mary Catherine Myers, Stephanie K. Shay and Sandra S. Grant; her mother; three brothers, George W. Wohlfarth, Richard Wohlfarth and Michael W. Wohlfarth; two sisters, Lavina Wohlfarth and Jeanne Becker; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today with services at 2 p.m. at Monument Hill Church Chapel, 18725 Monument Hill Road, Monument, 481-9728. Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 18725 Monument Hill Road, Monument, 481-9728, is handling cremation.

BERYL L. PIERATT

Mrs. Pieratt, 59, died April 7, 2001, at a local care center. She was a home health aide, former manager of Bulldog Drive-in in Calhan and a custodian at Calhan School.

Mrs. Pieratt was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Torrence, Calif., to John Welch and Betty McMorris. Her father is deceased. She was raised by her grandmother, Rosetta Welch, who is deceased. She was married Jan. 22, 1982, to Randy W. Pieratt.

Mrs. Pieratt is survived by her husband; her mother; three sons, Dale Fox, Sam Fox and Curtis Fox; three daughters, Laura Bannister, Gail Hinerman and Lynn Hurst; three sons-in-law, Pete Bannister, Dwight Hinerman and Leon Hurst; a daughter-in-law, Cheri Fox; a brother, Johnnie Welch; two sisters, Gloria and Roberta; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pat.

Visitation was at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., 471-9900. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Living Word Community Church, 532 Colorado Ave., Calhan.

LOIS LEE SMITH

Mrs. Smith, 72, died April 7, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She retired as a teacher from School District 11.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Prentiss, Miss., to George and Luella (Powell) Magee, who are deceased. She was married Aug. 8, 1955, to Nolan Smith, who is deceased.

She is survived by a son, Eric V.T.; a daughter, Thais Porter; three brothers; four sisters; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., 471-9900. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at People's United Methodist Church, 828 E. Boulder St. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road.

EMILIANA G. ESCOBAR

Mrs. Escobar, 83, died April 9, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Escobar was born March 13, 1918, in Lockhart, Texas, to Julio and Candelaria Escobar, who are deceased. She was married in 1933 to Rosalio S. Escobar.

She is survived by her husband; six sons, Joe, Gilbert, Florencio, Pete, Felix and Julio; six daughters, Sulvia Escobar, Mary Mestas, Clara Lopez, Lupe Olmos, Dominga Rodriguez and Rosa Ortiz; three sisters, Consuelo Rios, Juanita Delgado and Virginia; and 59 grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 4 p.m. today with a rosary at 6 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3825 Airport Road. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2715 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Pikes Peak Funeral and Cremation Services, 3825 Airport Road, 596-7991, is handling arrangements.

CATHERINE "KAY" H. HELINSKI

Mrs. Helinski, 88, died April 9, 2001, at a local care center. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Helinski was born Feb. 26, 1913, in Cleveland, to Andrew and Anna Dziurzynski, who are deceased. She was married to Francis G. Helinski, who is deceased.

She is survived by two sons, John F. and Joseph P.; a daughter, Ann Jablonski; a daughter-in-law, Gay; a sister, Anne L. Mikos; seven grandchildren, including Doug and Laura Troutman and Brent and Annis Helinski; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marianne Drozdowski.

A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland. Nolan Funeral Home, 225 N. Weber St., 632-7608, is handling arrangements.

MALINDA A. GROENING

Mrs. Groening, 92, died April 8, 2001, at her home in Colorado Springs. She was a health educator and community activist.

Mrs. Groening was born Nov. 2, 1908, in Hillsboro, Kan., to Abraham B. and Anna (Duerksen) Gaede, who are deceased. She was married Dec. 31, 1933, to Theodore Groening, who is deceased.

She is survived by a son, Ronald; three daughters, Carol Winkel, Judith Huff and Martha Perry; a sister, Esther Lepp; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., 471-9900. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 16 E. Platte Ave. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave.

E.P. "WHIT" WHITAKER

Mr. Whitaker, 91, died April 9, 2001, at a local care center. He was a retired hospital administrator. He was a Navy aviator during World War II and after the Korean War. He retired from the Navy Reserves with the rank of commander. He was a life fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Whitaker was born March 19, 1910, in Grafton, Neb., to William and Matilda (Pulver) Whitaker, who are deceased. He was married Feb. 21, 1939, to Katharyn Compton, who is deceased.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Whitaker Lamb; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Rose. After the service, a reception will be at Georgetown Square Clubhouse, 1917 N. Academy Blvd. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave.

RUTH LOUISE HILL

Mrs. Hill, 79, died April 7, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was an associate director of nursing in Los Angeles County, Calif.

Mrs. Hill was born June 7, 1921, in Indianapolis, to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Blomeyer, who are deceased. She was married to Vincent Quinn Hill, who is deceased.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lea "Barb" Lowry; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Blake Ross; a brother, Frederick Blomeyer; and her twin sister, Agnes Blomeyer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Marriott Brighten Gardens, 1685 S. 21st St. Cappadona's Alternative Funeral Services, 3407 N. El Paso St., 520-1817, is handling arrangements.

EUGENE BURTON WATKINS

Mr. Watkins, 74, died April 6, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He was a teacher for 37 years and a torpedo man in the Navy during World War II for two years.

Mr. Watkins was born May 23, 1926, in Muncie, Ind., to Merion and Frances Dora Aurelia (Kessler) Watkins, who are deceased. He was married Aug. 9, 1947, to Janet Catherine Morse.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ron, Rick and Randy; a daughter, Nancy Sutton; a sister, Esther Bullis; and nine grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Front Range Alliance Church, 4151 Centennial Blvd. Burial was at Woodland Park Cemetery, Short and Baldwin streets, Woodland Park. WILLIAM V. WRIGHT

Mr. Wright, 71, died March 24, 2001, at his home in Fountain after a long illness. He retired as a sergeant first class after serving 28 years in the Army. He served tours of duty in Japan, Korea and Vietnam.

Mr. Wright was born March 28, 1929, in Washington, Pa., to Floyd and Gertrude (Seaman) Wright. His father is deceased.

He is survived by three sons, George, of Colorado Springs, Floyd, of Colorado Springs and Ed, of Houston; three daughters, Mrs. Barry (Betty) Cahill, Mrs. Russell (Linda) McCartney and Ms. Susan Wilcox, all of Loveland; his mother, of Washington; a sister, Mrs. Kenny (Jane) Paul, of Washington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Soldier's Memorial Chapel, Fort Carson.

HAZEL MAUDE GRABER

Mrs. Graber, 97, died April 7, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a restaurant owner.

Mrs. Graber was born April 14, 1903, in Attica, Kan., to Willis S. and Effie (Catlin) Venard, who are deceased. She was married to Bernard Graber, who is deceased.

She is survived by twin granddaughters, Valli "Val" Taylor and Ella Lamphear; a great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dale W. Taylor.

Services will be in Norwich, Kan. Cappadona's Alternative Funeral Services, 3407 N. El Paso St., 520-1817, is handling local arrangements.

LAURELL HEARSEY JR.

Mr. Hearsey, 39, died April 4, 2001, at his home in Widefield. He was a professional chef.

Mr. Hearsey was born July 28, 1961, in Galveston, Texas, to Cora McChristian and Laurell Hearsey. His father is deceased.

He is survived by a daughter, Toylene Nichole, of Colorado Springs; his mother, of Widefield; three brothers, Jackie Wynn, of Denver, Calvin Wynn, of Houston and Grover McChristian, of Colorado Springs; a sister, Faye McChristian, of Colorado Springs; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Johnnie Mae Reese.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Angelus Funeral Directors, 2535 Airport Road, 391-1918. Cremation is planned.
