Stephen "Steve" D. Meredith, Niwot, CO

1949 - 2008

Stephen D. “Steve” Meredith of Niwot, Colorado, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. He was 59 years old.

Steve was born June 6, 1949 to Bill and Shirley Meredith in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School and then attended Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. Steve served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1972.

On March 23, 1971, Steve married Jeanie McCaddon in Boulder, Colorado. He worked at the McCaddon car dealership in Boulder for 35 years. Steve was well loved as a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was the nicest person you will ever meet and his memory will always bring a smile.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jeanie Meredith; his children, Molly (Travis) Shew, Katy (Chris) Klein, Andy Meredith, and Joe (Fanny) Meredith; six grandchildren, Jack and Tom Shew, Sam and Tess Klein, and Anyeli and Jason Meredith; two brothers, Mike Meredith, and Scott Meredith, and their families. His parents preceded him in death.

A private memorial service will be held, followed by an open house from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the family’s home.

Lola Brammer, Longmont, CO

1922 - 2008

Lola Brammer of Longmont, Colorado, died September 7, 2008, at the Peaks Care Center. She was 86.

Lola was born to Andrew Dunaway and Ethel Kirk Dunaway on March 3, 1922, in Muses Mills, Kentucky. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Muses Mills through the 8th grade.

On January 1, 1939, she married Lyle Brammer in Knightstown, Indiana, in a double ring ceremony with her sister, Evelyn (Harlan McDonald). Most of her life was devoted to raising her three sons and grandson. She did work various jobs for lunch money at Wayne’s Café, Montgomery Ward and Company, and K-mart, all in Boulder.

Her passion in life was watching any sport… especially baseball. She loved watching her sons play while growing up in Boulder and later, her grandson in Longmont. Rarely did she miss a game. She also enjoyed the Broncos, Nuggets and the Rockies, and when possible, watched every game from start to finish.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1999; her parents; and a son, Ron Brammer in 2007; five sisters, Lillian, Thelma, Evelyn, Edith and Helen; and one brother, Suddith Elwood Dunaway. She was the last remaining member of the immediate Dunaway family.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Brammer of Longmont, and Keith Brammer and his wife, Laurie of New Berlin, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Brent Brammer of Anaheim, California, and Chris Brammer and his wife, Stacy of Arvada; five great-grandchildren; and three former daughters-in-law, Gail Squires of Boulder, Sharon Brammer of Lyons, and Pam Brammer of Longmont.

A private graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2008, at Foothills Gardens of Memory, with Chaplain Len Schreiner of Front Range Hospice officiating.

James C. Lopez, Longmont, CO

1938 - 2008

James C. Lopez, 70, of Longmont, passed away September 7, 2008 at his home.

He was born February 16, 1938 in Brighton, Colorado, to Carmen (Vigil) and Frank Lopez.

James served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1956. He served 11 years active duty and another 11 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1978.

He married Kathleen Arroyas on July 22, 1972 at Regis Chapel in Denver, Colorado.

Following his discharge from active duty, James worked for Beach Aircraft for several years and then 19 ½ years with IBM, retiring in 1993.

He was of the Catholic faith and was a former member of the American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge. James was an avid bowler, belonging to several leagues and participating in many tournaments.

James was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda Spencer; a brother, Larry Lopez and a granddaughter, Kristi Lopez.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Lopez of Longmont; his children, Lori Upchurch of Longmont and James K. Lopez of Denver; a sister, Hope Ponzio of Thornton; a brother, David Lopez of Denver and two grandchildren, Krystal Lopez and Brittney Upchurch, both of Longmont.

Mass of the Resurrection 10 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2410 Trade Centre Ave. in Longmont with Rev. Frank Maroney celebrant. Inurnment will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 11 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kathleen Lopez.

Kordell Kor, Oxnard, CA

Kordell Kor, formerly of Boulder, died in his Oxnard, California home on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the age of 55.

Kordell is survived by both parents, Waylin Kor of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Vi Chapman of Boulder, Colorado; his sister, Koretta Vault of Tucson, Arizona; three brothers, Kordeen Kor of Corpus Christy, Texas, Kornell Kor of Braggs, Oklahoma and Tuan Kor of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Surviving him in Oxnard are his wife Ann, his children Stephanie and Jake, and seven grandchildren.

He was a devoted son and loving grandfather and leaves an empty space in the lives of those he left behind.

James C. Duvall, Broomfield

1921 - 2008

James C. Duvall of Broomfield passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008. He was 86.

He was born in Butler, MO on September 3, 1921 to Homer and Lela Duvall. James married Dorothy Lichte on November 22, 1949 in Mission, KS.

Survivors include his wife of Broomfield, children, Katie (Steve) Johnson of Lafayette, Paddy (Wayne) Armbruster of Lakeside, MT, Jim (Susie) Duvall of Broomfield and Becky (Mark) McReynolds of Glenwood Springs; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Broomfield at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, 1700 W. 10th Ave., Broomfield, CO 80020 or charity of one’s choice.

Edna A. Elzi, Boulder, CO

Edna A. Elzi, longtime Boulder resident, died in Longmont on June 20, 2008. Born in Eads, Colorado in 1923, she graduated high school there in 1941.

Edna Ruth Amyx, daughter of Eva M. Amyx and Henry Bascomb Amyx, early Kiowa County settlers and educators, attended Colorado State Teachers’ College before marrying George O. Elzi of Erie in 1943. She then moved with her young family to Boulder in 1944. Always a skilled seamstress, Edna’s nimble fingers fashioned many beautiful garments for her friends and family.

Edna was instrumental in designing and creating tents and original down clothing for Holubar Mountaineering, during the burgeoning Boulder mountaineering culture. Edna was widowed in 1963. She enjoyed the Colorado outdoors and was active in bowling, Women of the Moose, the Republican Party and the Odd Fellows Ivy Rebekah Lodge No. 51, where she served as Noble Grand. Edna was also an enthusiastic belly dancer, participating for many years with the celebration around the Bolder Boulder races. She also was a dedicated volunteer at the Bonfils Blood Bank. Edna retired from the University of Colorado Housing Services in 2003 after 21 years of service, where she was the head seamstress.

Preceding her in death were siblings H. Dean Amyx and Alice Phillips O’Brien.

She is survived by her sister, Esther Philpy of Eads, daughters Barbara Hinton of Denver and Carolyn McNevin of Ruidoso, New Mexico, grandsons Christopher and Mark Hinton, great grandsons Brian, Tanner and Parker Hinton, all of Denver.

Lubomir Hruska

1947 - 2008

Lubomir Hruska of Boulder died Monday July 14, 2008 at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties after a brave battle with colon cancer. He was 60.

He was born December 11, 1947 in Olomouc, Czech Republic to Frantisek and Libuse (Hodulikova) Hruska. Lubomir served in the Czech Army with his brother. In 1978 he escaped the former communist Czechoslovakia and came to the United States. He became a naturalized citizen in 1985 and was very proud to be an American. Mr. Hruska was a disciplined, responsible and dedicated chef at Marie’s Café where he worked from 1979 to 2008, a job he greatly loved. He loved sports, especially the Broncos, Nuggets, Avs and Rockies. He enjoyed coin collecting, fine European chocolate, had a great love for children and President Ronald Reagan was his hero.

He is survived by his family in the Czech Republic, his Boulder family the Barciaks; Dolly, Andrej, Darina, Nikolas, and Adriana, and many good friends and customers. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held 10 am Monday July 21, 2008 at Crist Mortuary 3395 Penrose Pl., with Rev. Rol Hoverstock of St. Johns Episcopal Church officiating. Services will conclude at the mortuary.

Tyler Michael Steven Trout, Denver, formerly of Sterling

1987 - 2008

Tyler Michael Steven Trout, 20, of Denver, died April 1, 2008, in Boulder. Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Mile Hi Church, 9077 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, on the corner of Alameda and Garrison, with Dr. Patty Luckenbach officiating. Interment will be at noon Tuesday, April 8, at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

Tyler was born July 22, 1987, to Tom Trout and Jami Dermer in Sterling. He attended Denver Christian School. He was an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society. He lettered in track and field in high school and graduated from Denver East High School in 2006. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. Tyler was a student board member of “9 Kids Who Care.”

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Tyler is survived by his mother, Jami Terlingen and husband Richard of Denver; father, Tom Trout of Sterling; sisters, Natalie Mitchel and husband Nate of Arvada and their children, Dylan and Kaitlyn, and Chloe Terlingen of Denver; brothers, Tim Trout of Lakewood and Derek Fritzler of Denver; grandparents, Dorothy “Nannie” Dermer of Denver and Dorothy “Marmo” Luft and husband Augie of Sterling; aunts and uncles, Steve Trout and family of Johnstown, Jim Trout and family of Milliken, Dana Brady and family of Sterling, Diane Dermer of Denver, Ray Steinmiller of Sterling, and Gladys and Lawrence Wagner of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert Dermer and Carl Trout; uncles, Craig Trout, Rodney and Mikey Dermer; and aunt, Mary Steinmiller.

Matthew Garns Powell, Boulder, CO

1958 - 2008

Matthew Garns Powell, 49, died Friday, September 19, 2008 in a bicycle accident in Boulder, CO.

Matt was born December 29, 1958 in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from North High School in Sioux City, IA, and was a 1981 graduate of the University of Colorado, majoring in environmental biology.

Predeceased by his parents, Richard Garns Powell and Mary Frances Powell, Matt is survived by his sister, Julia Powell Stone of Savannah, GA, his aunts and cousins, and a host of friends and acquaintances. Matt loved the outdoors and was an enthusiastic, active resident of Boulder.

He embraced a “green” lifestyle decades ago and was an avid environmentalist in every aspect of his life. He loved animals and biking and helping others, spending hundreds of hours each year volunteering in his community. His gentle presence, keen intelligence and wicked sense of humor will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Plans for a memorial service are pending.

Dennis R. Knox, Loveland

1943 - 2008

Dennis R. Knox, 65, of Loveland, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Sierra Vista Health Care in Loveland. Private services have been conducted with inurnment in Fort Logan National Cemetery. No further services are scheduled at this time.

Mr. Knox was born Jan. 5, 1943, to Richard M. and Rose (Carter) Knox in Denver. He graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a pipe fitter for Local Union No. 208. Retirement was enjoyed in Loveland.

Dennis is survived by his sons, Richard L. Knox and wife Laura of San Diego, Calif., and Tracey L. Knox and wife Jamie of Sterling; daughter, Cindy Johnston and husband Darrel of Dacono; grandchildren, Brandon, Franklin, Cody, Joseph; and family friend, Bernard Bucher.

Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland handled the arrangements.
