Gerald Phillip Robinson

MONTE VISTA - Gerald Phillip Robinson, Monte Vista, passed away March 16, 2000 at Denver Health Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 31, 1937 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Fred and Helen Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Torsche Spencer and numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Francis, son Doug (Shannon) Robinson, daughter Kelli (John) Cryer, stepdaughter Tammy Francis, two step-sons Mike (Suelynn) Behil and Kenny Dale (Delores( Behil, one sister Joyce (Bill) Robertson, one niece Shelly (Robert) Landgrebe and the very lights of his life, the grandchildren Heather Robinson, Erick Robinson, Erin Robinson, Gunner Robinson, Brandon Medina, Kody Medina, J.R. Cryer, Ryan Spencer, Chad Spencer and Courtney Behil.

He served in the U.S. Air Fore from 1955 to 1959 as a munitions specialist and was a member of the B.P.O.E. #2458 of Monte Vista.

Cremation was chosen and there will be a memorial service at the Elks Lodge, 121 Washington St. on Saturday, March 25 at 6 p.m.

Richard Theodore (Ted) Eckles, 76

MONTE VISTA - Former Monte Vista resident Richard Theodore (Ted) Eckles, a former consultant and state director, died Feb. 28, 2000 of cancer.

He was 76. Memorial services were held March 2 at Drake Road Chapel, Fort Collins and followed by a cremation.

Mr. Eckles was born April 23, 1923 in Lamar. He attended Monte Vista High School and the University of Colorado.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

He was a farmer, cattle rancher, and tire store owner in the San Luis Valley.

He later was director of purchasing and director of Natural Resources for the state of Colorado, and during that time he was instrumental in getting President Eisenhower to stay a night or two as his guest upstairs at the Eckles Building, now known as the Aspen Building, in Monte Vista. (While there, "Ike" did some fly fishing up near Creede).

Mr. Eckles also was a corporate consultant to environmental and development projects and a bankruptcy trustee for the Federal District Court.

He was a Master Mason of the Monte Vista Lodge No. 73 and a member of Ducks Unlimited.

His interests included hunting and fishing. He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Goodman of Atlanta, Ga. and Melanie, from Tucson, Ariz.; two sons Theodore of Cleveland, Ohio and Dan from Fort Collins; and by six grandchildren.

Mark Kolb, 47

Mark H. KoIb, AlA, co-owner of the De1 Norte Architectural firm of Jones and Kolb, Architects, LLC, died of heart failure Saturday, March 11, 2000 in Del Norte, Colorado.

Born in Midland, Michigan in 1952, Mark was a graduate of the University of Arizona.

A Registered Architect in Colorado and California and a member of the American Institute of Architects, in addition to leading major research and healthcare building projects at Stanford University and the University of Southern California, he held senior positions with national architecture and construction firms.

After moving to the Valley in 1998, he dedicated bis talent and creativity to the Valley community where he has been instrumental in many new and historic preservation projects and has served on the 8oard of Directors of the Rio Grande County Museum.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Mickey Kolb of South Fork, stepchildren Cynthia, Alden, Nathan, and Randall; grandchildren Alden, Michael, Elizabeth and Emily; parents Arnold and Virginia Kolb of Midland, Michigan; sisters Kathi Killian and Sharon Harker; nieces and nephews Jason, Brandy, Emily, and Tyler.

His family, friends and colleagues will always remember him for his professional achievements, sense of humor, fairness and generosity. Arrangements are by Strohmayer's Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at the Ed Sharp Memorial Chapel at Strohmayer's Funeral Home, 205 Broadway in Monte Vista, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15,2000, followed by a reception at the Jones & Kolb architectural offices, 1O85 Grand Avenue, Del Norte.

Contributions in memory of Mark H. Kolb may be made to the Rio Grande Hotel Restoration Fund, c/o Creede Repertory Theatre, Inc., P.O Box 269, Creede, CO 81130.

Minnie M. Bogart Riggenbach, 92

DEL NORTE - Minnie Riggenbach, 92, died Saturday, March 11, 2000 at the San Juan Care Center in Del Norte.

Born Aug. 30, 1907 in the Rock Creek area, the daughter of Lorenz and Magdalene Haller, she lived in the Monte Vista area all her life.

She was an LPN at the Monte Vista Hospital and the Homelake Hospital before retiring.

She was a long-time member of the Monte Vista Methodist Church.

Mrs. Riggenbach was preceded in death by her husbands Bruce Bogart in June 1953 and W.R. Riggenbach in December 1973.

She also was preceded in death by son Loren Bogart in August 1992.

She is survived by her step-daughter and step son-in-law Bettie and Bruce Bond of Monte Vista and a son and daughter-in-law John and Nancy Bogart of Escondido, Calif.; one sister Helena Kelling of Colorado Springs; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 20 at the Monte Vista Cemetery.

Irene Catherine Stout, 92

MONTE VISTA - Irene Stout passed away on March 4, 2000 at Mountain Meadows Nursing Center.

She was born on April 14, 1908 in St. Joseph, Mo. to Michael and Mary (Flannigan) Cleary.

Irene loved helping people, talking, crocheting, and hand work and was a very happy person.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her parents, one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by three children Bonnie Deacon of Monte Vista; Helen Hinrichs of Whittier, Calif.; and Richard Stout of Salida; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2000 p.m. at the Monte Vista Cemetery.

Arrangements were being made by Strohmayer's Funeral Home.
