Jonne Deanne Manning Risenhoover

Funeral services for Jonne Deanne Manning Risenhoover are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Eastland Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Eastland Cemetery. Leslie White and John Wilson will be officiating the services.

Jonne was born on Aug. 15, 1945 to John Dudley and Charlene Edith (Clinkenbeard) Manning in Oklahoma City, Okla. She passed away in a fatal car accident on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000 in Absarokee, Mont. at the age of 55.

Jonne was married to the late Donald Glen Risenhoover on April 20, 1964. They shared 29 wonderful years together and from this union they had four daughters, Teresa Barry and her husband, Eddie of Eastland, Utah, Lisa Jones and her husband, Troy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tina Inskeep and her husband, Jimmy of Absarokee, and Brendee Risenhoover of Colorado Springs. There are eight grandchildren, Trint, Shilo, and Seante Barry, Tyler Jones, Jessee, Dakota, and Kamas Inskeep, and Shay Lee Risenhoover. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.

Jonne worked at Stillwater Community Hospital and the Special K Ranch in Columbus, Mont. Prior to that, Jonne worked at the Monticello Hospital. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, crafts, and crocheting. She is a 1964 graduate of Montezuma County High School.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jonne Deanne Risenhoover to the Dove Creek State Bank. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Nancy D. Tanner

Funeral services for former Cortez resident Nancy D. Tanner will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Cortez Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery.

Mrs. Tanner passed away at her home in Columbia Missouri on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000. She was 67.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cortez Parks and Recreation Department, Tree Donation, 210 E. Main St., Cortez. Please note that the donation is for Nancy Tanner.

Nancy was born to John and Nancy (Elliott) Doerr in Hilo, Hawaii, on May 29, 1933.

Surviving Nancy is a large and loving family consisting of her daughter, Margaret Morgan Tanner and her husband, Carwin, who is also a stepson, of Fulton, Mo; five additional stepchildren and their spouses, Darlene and Ken Absher of Grass Valley, Calif., Leon and Donna Tanner of Cortez, Duane and Vonnie Tanner of Cortez, Jolene Phelps of Boise, Ida., and Renea and Larry Yarbrough also of Cortez; granddaughter, Morgan Tanner of Fulton, Mo., as well as 20 additional grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joan Palmer of Denver.

A son, Kenneth Morgan, and her husband, Ralph Tanner, preceded her in death.

Nancy was a devoted and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Services will be conducted by the Ertel Funeral Home.

Allie M. Bertrand

Funeral services for Allie M. Bertrand are pending with Calahan & Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. She was born on Sept. 12, 1920, and died at the Valley Inn Nursing Home on Dec. 4, 2000, just three days after her beloved husband, Joe A. Bertrand.

Local arrangements are being handled through the Ertel Funeral Home. For further service information, contact the funeral home at 565-3468.

Dorothy A. Graham

Services for Dorothy A. Graham, a lifetime resident of Cortez, are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Interment service will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Visitation is set for Saturday, Dec. 2, between 7-8 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Dorothy was born to William and Kittie (Dye) Whitacre on July 12, 1915 in Webb City, Okla. She passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. She was 85 years old.

She is survived by her beloved friend, Aaron Wilkerson of Cortez., and by her step-children, Delia Reeder of Dove Creek, and Cleo Hunter of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by two sisters, Anna Himmick of Stockton, Calif. and Audrey Wilson of Idaho.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, and two step-daughters; Doris Kawack and Frankie Smith.

Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Joe A. Bertrand

Services for Joe A. Bertrand are pending with Calahan & Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, Colo.

He was born on March 26, 1914. Mr. Bertrand passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos at the age of 86.

Bettye Lee Williamson

A local memorial service will be held for Bettye Lee Williamson, a longtime resident of Cortez, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on East Empire on Monday, Dec. 4, starting at 3 p.m.

Bettye passed away at her home in Cortez on Nov. 28, 2000. Other services are currently pending in Oklahoma City.

Bettye Lee Williamson, a longtime Cortez resident, was born on Nov. 23, 1926 to Lee and Mable (Vawter) Long in Webb City, Okla. She passed away on Nov. 28, 2000 at her home in Cortez at the age of 74.

Bettye is survived by her children; Darrell Williamson of Oklahoma City, Okla., George Williamson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Peggy Williamson of Norman, Okla., and Jeff Williamson of Dallas, Tex. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving Bettye is her brother, Jim Long of Cortez, and her sister, Peggy Jarrel of Hobbs, N.M. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Penny Williamson.

Services are currently pending with the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, Okla. Arrangements are being handled through the Ertel Funeral Home. For additional service information, please call at 565-3468.

Jack Smith

Graveside services for Jack H. Smith will be held on Friday, December 1, at the Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores beginning at 10 a.m. Janice Cook will be officiating the service.

Jack was born to Buster and Minnie (Pool) Smith on Nov. 30, 1931 in Finley, Okla. He passed away on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez at the age of 68.

Jack served his country in the United States Army. He is a veteran of the Korean War. He also served the community through mechanic work in the farm industry.

He is survived by his loving wife, Florence (Covington) Smith of Mancos; his daughters, Sharlet Wagner and her husband, John of Brawley, Calif., and Janice Cook and her husband, Phil of San Diego, Calif. His grandchildren also survive him, Jared and Jessika Harrison of Chico, Calif.; Sarah and Matt Cook of San Diego, Calif., and Maroki Wagner of Brawley. His brother, Harvey Smith of North Carolina, and his three sisters, Ruby Wren of Missouri, Gail Atchley of Texas and Pamela Smith of Oklahoma all survive him. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Brooksie Chaffin Moore

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 for Brooksie Lynn (Chaffin) Moore at the Fairview Cemetery at 1 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow at the Lewis-Arriola Fire Department.

Brooksie was born Jan. 13, 1963 to Gary Chaffin and Jackie McCabe. She passed away Nov. 19, 2000 at the age of 37.

She is survived by her parents; siblings, Shane Chaffin of Cortez; Adam Chaffin of the Montrose-Olathe area; Amber Christenson of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Travis Imel of Wisconsin, and many extended family members and friends.

Roy 'Uncle Roy' Magarrell

Funeral services for Roy Reed "Uncle Roy" Magarrell, 82, a lifelong resident of Dolores are scheduled for Friday, December 1, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Military graveside services will follow at the Arriola Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Ertel Memorial Chapel Friday, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Mr. Magarrell passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. He was born April 11, 1918 to George Reed Magarrell and Mamie (Carson) Magarrell in Durango, Colo.

Roy was a retired military man serving in the Air Force. He is a veteran of World War II and retired from the military with a rank of major. He is a member of the Masons in Farmington, N.M., part of the Animas Lodge #15.

He loved to go hunting and fishing and had a real fondness for bird dogs. He was a great entertainer and gourmet cook. Roy spent his summers on the West Fork of the Dolores River and winters in Allome, Sinaloa, Mexico.

He never married; however, he is survived by his sister, Barbara Randolph of Farmington, N.M.; and one foster son, Ramon Aragon Castro of Allome Sinaloa, Mexico. He is also survived by three foster grandchildren. Six nephews and one niece survive their beloved Uncle Roy. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and by his sister, Etta Mae Edwards.

Memorial contributions can be made in Roy Magarrell's name to the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation, P. O. Box 8249, Missoula, MT 59807-8249. Arrangements are being handled through the Ertel Funeral Home.

Carl D. Smith

Funeral services for Lewis resident Carl D. Smith are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 27, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Luther Shields will officiate. Cremation is to follow. Visitation will be held at the Ertel Chapel on Sunday afternoon between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Carl was born the son of Don and Ida Mae (McClatchy) Smith in Alma, Ark., on April 27, 1919. He passed away at the Vista Grande Nursing Home on Nov. 22, 2000. He was 81.

Carl remained a faithful member of the Masons and Eastern Star. During his time as a resident of Clovis, Calif., he was a member of the Clovis Masonic Lodge #417 and Concordia OES #309. Upon moving to Cortez in 1991 he became involved in the Cortez OES #87, and the Lewis Grange. On Oct. 21,1993, Carl wed Ruth Garlinghouse in Cortez.

Carl loved horses and riding. He rode in the Rose Parade as well as many other California parades during his time there. He also enjoyed hunting.

Surviving Carl are his wife of seven years, Ruth Smith of Lewis.; step-daughters, Jean Hurst of Clovis, Calif., and Carolyn Stephens and her husband, Ron of Quartzite, Ariz.; a step-son, Jim Garlinghouse and his wife, Kay of Lewis; a niece, Sandra Greenlee of Cortez; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lauvell Hudson of Cortez, and Irma Waddington of Bakersfield, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions can be made in Carl Smith's name with Hospice of Montezuma. Services will be conducted by the Ertel Funeral Home.

Inetha Vee 'Dutch' Keith

Funeral services for Inetha Vee "Dutch" Keith, former Cortez resident, are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 27, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Marvin Graves will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday, Nov. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Dutch was born to William and Eva (Baysinger) Fletcher on July 16, 1931, in Cortez. She passed away on Nov. 21, 2000, at the University Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was 69.

Dutch worked as a cook in the food service industry. She worked in many of the local Cortez establishments such as Pippo's, Stoner Cafe, M&M Truck Stop, and Ute Coffee Shop. Dutch attended school in Cortez and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children: Ilean Silva of Denver, Bobby Eaton of Reno, Nev., Billy Eaton of Las Vegas, Nev., Ricky Eaton of Reno, Nev., Rodney Keith of Maysville, Okla.; and her sister, Reva Johnson of Cortez. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with a number of nieces, nephews, and friends who will dearly miss her.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, a daughter, Darlene Nichols who passed away in 1998 and two sisters.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name at the Citizens State Bank of Cortez. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Harry Zimmerhackel Jr.

Harry Zimmerhackel Jr. was born on Dec. 9, 1922 in Denver, Colo. He passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 at his home in Cortez. He was 77 years old.

Harry was a teacher in the Denver Public School District for over 18 years. He was also a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by three sons, Harry "Hank" Zimmerhackel III of Cortez, John Zimmerhackel of Denver, Colo. and George Zimmerhackel of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by one grandchild. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his wife. Sophie Marie Johnson, who passed away in 1997.
