No services are planned for Jackie Sue Schumacher, who died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in Durango. She was 45.
Ms. Schumacher was born Dec. 10, 1952, in Durango and was raised in Durango. She was a graduate of Durango High School and Fort Lewis College.
Ms. Schumacher earned her doctorate from Arizona State University. She was employed as a computer programmer.
Survivors include her father, Charles E. Schumacher of Durango; mother, Dorothy J. Moore Schumacher of Durango; sister, Gerrie Chamberlain of Durango; grandmother, Mary Schumacher of Durango and grandfather, C.G. Moore of Flippin, Ark.
Police said the death is under investigation.
Charles W. 'Chick' Neeley
Feb. 5, 1998
Memorial services will be held at a later date for Charles W. "Chick" Neeley, who died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at his home in Mancos. He was 83.
There was cremation.
Mr. Neeley was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Canon City, Colo., and moved to Mancos as an infant where he was a lifelong resident.
April 30, 1940, Mr. Neeley married Helen Beers.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen Beers Neeley, of Mancos; four sisters, Ruth Brown of Mancos, Winifred Mallett of Rangely, Colo., Helen Caylor of Mancos and Geneva Cox of Mancos; two brothers, James Neeley of Cortez and Raymond Neeley of Farmington, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Neeley contributed a mountain cabin plus acreage to the Mancos Hose Co. No. 1, making the new ambulance possible. Contributions in Mr. Neeley's memory may be made through the Mancos Valley Bank to benefit the Mancos Hose Co. No. 1.
Eldon Burdell Hiner

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Eldon Burdell Hiner, who died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, in Durango. He was 80.
The Rev. Dan Straw will officiate. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery
with graveside services conducted by the Durango Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Hiner was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Durango. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He married Mozelle H. Hodge Skinner Sept. 1, 1978, in Santa Fe, N.M.
Mr. Hiner was a contractor and home builder. He attended the Florida Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Hiner was a member of the Durango Masonic Lodge and La Plata Chapter O.E.S. No. 83.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Hiner of Durango; daughter, Lucky Messenger of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; brothers, Bill Hiner and Kenneth Hiner, both of Durango, and Albert Hiner of Lemon Grove, Calif.; sisters, Lillian Davis of Durango, Marion Webber of Farmington, N.M., and Marguerite Culhane of Calimesa, Calif.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Beverly Erickson

Services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck, N.D., for Beverly Erickson, a Durango resident who died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in a Denver hospital from complications of breast cancer. She was 41.
The Rev. Ben Dove officiated. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck, N.D.
Mrs. Erickson was born April 23, 1956, in Bismarck, N.D. She was raised and educated in Bismarck; graduating with a bachelor's degree in health and nutrition from Moorhead State College. She worked for the State Health Department in Bismarck and continued working in the health field in Denver.
In 1981, she married Daryl Erickson in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they moved to Denver.
Mrs. Erickson enjoyed hiking, camping, biking and skiing. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church. She was involved in the Christian Education Committee, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Erickson served in the Women's Association and was involved in International Bible Study Fellowship.
Survivors include: Her husband, Daryl, daughter, Leah and son, Tyler, all of Durango; her parents, Bernie and Etta Schue of Bismarck, N.D.; one brother, Gary Schue of Grand Forks, N.D.; two sisters, Pam Hipple of Bismarck, N.D., and Julie Bell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two nephews and four nieces.
Viola Rose (Wommer) Hallsted

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bayfield Cemetery
for Viola Rose Hallsted, a native and longtime resident of Bayfield who died April 29, 1998, in Rio Rancho, N.M. She was 88.
The Rev. Dan Straw will officiate at graveside services.
She was born Viola Wommer Nov. 1, 1909, in Bayfield. She was the daughter of Louis and Emma Rosena Wommer, pioneers of the Pine River valley. She lived in the area until moving to Rio Rancho in 1990. She also taught school in Cherry Creek before turning 18.
She held a life teachers certificate in music and taught at the Ignacio schools, as well as giving private lessons, and continued to teach after moving to Rio Rancho.
Mrs. Hallsted married Ored Dale "O.D." Hallsted in Aztec in 1929. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She is survived by two daughters, Ora Viola McCathron of Albuquerque and Eloise Faust of Ignacio; a brother, Harold Wommer of Durango; a sister, Lily May Farrow of Steamboat Springs; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Fern D. Ellis

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Mancos Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Fern D. Ellis, who died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. She was 83.
Bishop Dan Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be at Webber Cemetery
in Mancos. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the church.
Mrs. Ellis was born July 8, 1914, in Mancos and spent her entire life in the Mancos Valley.
Mrs. Ellis was a past president of the Mancos PTA, and worked at the Mancos Valley Bank. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Ellis.
Survivors include her sons, Darrel Ellis of Mancos, Jede Ellis of Salt Lake City and Ronald Ellis of Fredonia, Ariz.; daughter, Maurine Smith of Salt Lake City; sister, Pauline John of Kaysville, Utah; brother, Carl Decker of Mesa, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

John A. Broderick

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fort Collins for John A. Broderick, who died Friday, April 24, 1998, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colo. He was 70.
The Rev. William Bacon will officiate.
Mr. Broderick was born July 18, 1927, in Grand Junction., Colo. He married Phyllis Lee Tharp Jan. 2, 1954, in Denver. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea.
Mr. Broderick had lived in Fort Collins for 27 years, and had also lived in Denver, Durango, Gunnison, Colo., and Cheyenne, Wyo. He was employed in real estate.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include his sons, Trevor Broderick of Santa Monica, Calif., and Brandon Broderick of Loveland, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Roger James Erickson

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colo., for Roger James Erickson, who died Thursday, April 23, 1998, in Monte Vista, Colo. He was 72.
Private family burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
Mr. Erickson was born May 6, 1926, in Monte Vista, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines with the 30th Traffic Regulating Group. He was with Co. 33 WD 45 at the battle of Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, World War II Victory medal, Army of Occupation medal and Good Conduct medal.
After being discharged in 1946, Mr. Erickson returned to Monte Vista. He married Luella Mattison in Campbell, Neb., June 23, 1954. They moved to Durango in 1954, where he worked for Vanadium Corporation of America. In 1969, they moved to New Orleans, La., where Mr. Erickson became equipment instructor for Lockheed-Martin at the NASA Assembly Plant. They moved to Del Norte in 1980 and later to Evans, Colo.
Mr. Erickson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Luella Erickson of Evans, Colo.; daughter, Pat Erickson Shaffer of Greeley, Colo.; brothers, Kenneth Erickson of Cortez and Victor Erickson of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Vivian Baker of Rosemead, Calif., Edith Barker of St. Maries, Idaho, and Eloise Olson of Grangeville, Idaho; and three grandsons.
