Josephine M. Hatch

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Josephine M. Hatch, who died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Durango. She was 85.

Cause of death was not given.

The Rev. Mike McCleary will officiate at services.

Ms. Hatch was born July 19, 1913, in Champaign, Ill., before moving to Durango in 1976.

She was a member of the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, John M. Hatch of Durango and Raymond Hatch of Salt Lake City; two daughters, May Adachi of Los Angeles and Robbie Rowe of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Catherine Arroyo of Atlanta; and eight grandchildren.

Milo Leroy Smith

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pine River Valley Baptist Church for Milo Leroy Smith, who died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Farmington from complications of diabetes. He was 56.

The Rev. Joe Sparks and Rev. David McCaw will officiate at services. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery in Ignacio. A reception will follow the services at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Mr. Smith was born May 25, 1943, in Durango. He married Cathy Dianne Smith on Dec. 31, 1985, in Monticello, Utah.

Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of the Ignacio/Durango area. He ranched the area all his life. He was a school bus driver for Ignacio Public Schools for 16 years. He was a member of the Oxford Grange, Pine River Valley Baptist Church and Basin Coop, where he worked for a short time.

He is preceded in death by one son, Milo E. Smith; and one sister, Judith Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Ignacio; three sons, Benjamin Smith, Clint Smith and Joshua Smith, all of Ignacio; four daughters, Becky Canterbury, Cindy Phillips, Jennifer Smith and Sara Smith, all of Ignacio; one sister, Sheri Wyatt of Aztec; three foster children; and 13 grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation Colorado Affiliate, 2450 S. Downing St., Denver, CO 80210.

Lena K. Dalla

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Lena K. Dalla, a lifelong resident of Southwest Colorado, who died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 86.

The Rev. Mike McCleary will officiate at services. Cremation will follow the Mass with burial of the ashes at Hillside Cemetery in Silverton.

The cause of death was not given.

Ms. Dalla was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Silverton. She moved to Durango with her husband in 1969. She married Louie Dalla.

She was a homemaker. Ms. Dalla was involved in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Silverton and St. Columba Catholic Church in Durango.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Louie in 1982.

She is survived by two nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillside Cemetery Memorial Fund, c/o Frieda Peterson, P.O. Box 115, Silverton, CO 81433.

George A. King

A memorial service will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. July 24 at the Fort Lewis College Chapel for George A. King, who died March 20, 1999, in Scotsdale, Ariz. A reception will follow the service.

Mr. King was a Durango architect.

Dorothy M. Woods

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Durango for Dorothy M. Woods, who died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Durango, of unknown causes. She was 84.

The Rev. Bill Postler will officiate at services. Interment of cremains will be at Greenmount Cemetery.

Ms. Woods was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Elizabeth, N.J. She was a retired head nurse in the intensive care unit at Elizabeth General Hospital in New Jersey. She moved to Durango in May 1998.

Ms. Woods is survived by two sons, Ernest R. Woods of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Peter A. Woods of Durango; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Jay Brown

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Mitchell Jay Brown, who died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at his home in Durango. He was 38.

The Rev. Mike McCleary will officiate.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Mr. Brown was born March 7, 1961, in Richland, Wash.

Mr. Brown was a resident of Durango for the past several years. He was a graduate of Fort Lewis College.

Survivors include his parents, George and Barbara Brown of Sequim, Wash.; a daughter, Emily Brown of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Janel Brown of Denver and Kelli Peay of Provo, Utah; and a brother, Douglas of Hood River, Ore.

Richard G. Lemmon

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church in Harvey, Ill., for Richard G. Lemmon, who died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill.

He was 55.

Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Ill.

The cause of death was not available.

Mr. Lemmon was born March 16, 1944, in Durango. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Lemmon was a federal police officer. He was a member of the Special Forces Association and Fraternal Order of Police. He was a resident of Flossmoor, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Ryktarczyk Lemmon; a son, Richard Lemmon of Des Plaines, Ill.; his mother, Genevieve Lemmon of Roswell, N.M.; and a brother, Ronald Lemmon of Nampa, Idaho.

Alice Denetlthtso Etsitty

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Grace Brethren Navajo Mission in Counselors, N.M., for Alice Denetlthtso Etsitty, who died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango.

She was 43.

The Rev. Tully Butler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Grace Brethren Navajo Mission Cemetery.

The cause of death was not available.

Ms. Etsitty was born June 6, 1956, in Pueblo Pintado, N.M.

Charles K. ‘Ken’ Howe

An outdoor memorial service for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Rotary Park Gazebo for Charles K. "Ken" Howe, who died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in Durango. He was 76.

There was cremation. The cause of death was not available.

Mr. Howe was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Durango and was a lifelong resident of Durango. In 1936, he graduated from Durango High School.

Mr. Howe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was stationed in the Pacific.

He married Elizabeth Power Gallavan on Nov. 19, 1947, in Durango.

Mr. Howe retired from the Bureau of Reclamation.

Mr. Howe was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Club of Durango and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Durango. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Howe of Durango; a son, Rick Gallavan of Los Angeles; a daughter, Dee Dee Howe of Durango; a brother, Robert Howe of Wray, Colo.; a sister, Phyllis Stark of Lakewood, Colo.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
