Sylvia Lucille Anctil (Brett)
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Thornton, Colo., for Sylvia Lucille Anctil, formerly Brett, who died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, after a long battle with cancer. She was 62.
Mrs. Anctil was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Los Angeles. She moved to Durango in 1968 where she lived for 18 years before moving to Boulder.
Mrs. Anctil devoted her life to being a housewife and later received a license in cosmetology. For the last eight years, she worked as an assistant at the Boulder Main Library.
Mrs. Anctil enjoyed the outdoors, walking, painting and tennis.
Survivors include her seven children, Dan Brett of Salt Lake City; Bill Brett of Des Moines, Iowa; Susan Brett Klotz of Aurora, Colo;, Tim Brett of Dallas, Julie Wigton and Joe Brett, both of Durango; and Paul Brett of Dillon, Colo.; four brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Metro Denver, Aurora Care Center, 3399 S. Eagle St., Aurora, CO 80014.
Robert V. Cummins
A Mass will be said Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Boulder City, Nev., Catholic Church for Robert V. Cummins, a former Durango resident who died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, from cancer.
The Rev. Raymond Decker will officiate.
Mr. Cummins was born and raised in Durango. He graduated from Durango High School before serving in the Navy during WWII. He then attended Denver University and was with the U.S. Bureau of the Budget under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.
He was retired and living in Boulder City, Nev., when he died.
His wife, Pearl Craig, preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son, Craig Cummins; and two grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the local Hospice chapter.
Muriel Everett Olbert
Muriel Everett Olbert died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999. She was 91.
The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. Olbert was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Mancos. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in education. She taught at Mrs. Trudell’s Private School in the Huning Castle and tutored many students in her home.
She retired from the city of Albuquerque and also from Dillard’s department store at the age of 81.
Mrs. Olbert was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Lew Wallace Chapter of the D.A.R.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1958.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Bland of Albuquerque; a brother, Mark Everett; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Services were held Oct. 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Larry A. Wright and the Rev. Melinda Wagner officiated. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park.
Douglas W. Melcher
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elks Picnic Ground about seven miles east of Durango on Florida Road for Douglas W. Melcher, who died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, in Durango. He was 75.
The cause of death was not available.

Mr. Melcher was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Omaha, Neb. He married Norma B. Herrick on Sept. 20, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He received his bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry in 1951 and his doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1955 at Colorado State University. He moved to Durango in 1955.
Mr. Melcher owned the Animas Veterinary Clinic but then sold it and doctored large animals. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Colorado Veterinary Medical Association.
He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge. He was interested in hardrock mining, horse packing, and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Norma B. Melcher of Durango; two sons, Jim Melcher and Bill Melcher, both of Durango; two daughters, Leslie Melcher of Durango and Sally Hall of Hesperus; a sister, Shirley Gilbaugh of Gering, Neb.; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Rodney B. Horrocks
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mancos Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for Rodney B. Horrocks, who died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos. He was 81.
The cause of death was not available.
Bishop Dan Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be at the Old Mormon Cemetery.
Mr. Horrocks was born April 22, 1918, in Vernal, Utah. He married Phoebe M. Hatch on Dec. 24, 1936, in Vernal, Utah.
Mr. Horrocks was a resident of Mancos. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phoebe, in 1996, and by two children, Gayla Zufelt and Doyel Horrocks.
Survivors include five children, R. Dwain Horrocks of Spanish Fork, Utah, Melvyn Horrocks of Mancos, LeRoy Horrocks of Roy, Utah, Neil Horrocks of Midvale, Utah, and Sherene Goddard of Dolores; 33 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna Broadlead of Washington.
Charles A. ‘Chuck’ Wright
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Hood Mortuary chapel for Charles A. "Chuck" Wright, who died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Durango. He was 73.
The cause of death was a heart attack.
The Rev. Gerald Brush will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Rattlesnake Butte. He moved to Durango in 1931. Mr. Wright served in World War II in the Navy and received an honorable discharge for his service. Mr. Wright was a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He was a member of the Hereford Association and the American Farm Bureau.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan Jackson, of Albuquerque; a son, Steve Wright, of Arboles; four sisters, Marion Elwell, of Rye, Eleanor Madill, of Pueblo, Nell Clark, of Pagosa Springs, and Maxine Kolz, of Montrose; three brothers, Norman Wright, of Ignacio, George Briar, of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Kenneth Briar, of White City, Ore.; his former wife, Lois B. Wright, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two grandchildren.
Dino A. Ganzerla
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Dino A. Ganzerla, who died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in Durango after an extended illness. He was 86.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary; visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Ganzerla was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Mary Helen Oldham in 1941. He was a longtime businessman in Gallup, N.M., before his family moved to Durango in 1965, where he began ranching in the Animas Valley.
Mr. Ganzerla was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, in which he was a past Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Ganzerla of Durango; four daughters, Dina O’Brien of Phoenix, Ariz., Patti Loe of Dallas, and Lisa Dillon and Linda Graves, both of Durango; a son, Tony Ganzerla of Durango; a brother, Rusty Ganzerla of Albuquerque; a sister, Lucia McDuff of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Ellen Box Mirabal
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Baptist Indian Mission for Ellen Box Mirabal, who died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in Durango. She was 88.
The cause of death was not available.
The Rev. Kelly Winlock will officiate. Burial will be at the Ouray Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Mirabal was born July 4, 1911, in Ignacio, where she was raised. She was a Southern Ute tribal member.
Mrs. Mirabal moved to Taos, N.M., in 1950 and returned to Ignacio in 1984 after her husband died.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara T. Santistevan of Ignacio; two sons, Johnson B. Taylor of Ignacio and John Taylor of Redding, Calif.; three grandchildren, Patricia Ellen Taylor, Johnita Elyn Taylor and Johnson K. Taylor; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Box of Denver and Eddie Box Sr. of Ignacio; a sister, Mary Chavez of Bayfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
