Steven M. Tracy
March 16, 1960 - July 18, 2003
CRAWFORD - Lifelong North Fork resident, Steven M. Tracy, died on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 43.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Hotchkiss Elk’s Lodge B.P.O.E. #1807 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Art Wolverton and Members of the Lodge will officiate. Services will conclude at the Lodge.
Steven Michael Tracy was born on March 16, 1960, to George L. and Rose (Walsh) Tracy, Jr., in Delta, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Maher, Colorado, and graduated from Paonia High School in 1978. Steven was employed by Minerich Inc. and traveled extensively throughout the United States for seven or eight years for them. He spent the remainder of his life as a rancher in the Maher and Crawford area.
Tracy attended St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Hotchkiss. He belonged to the Hotchkiss Elk’s Lodge # 1807, the Colorado Cattleman’s Association, and the Delta County Livestock Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
Those grateful to have shared in Tracy’s life include his father, George Tracy, Jr. of Maher, CO; a brother, Robert Tracy and his wife Michelle of Hotchkiss, CO; a sister, Elizabeth Siwarski and her husband David of Tucson, AZ; two nephews: Steve and Nolan Tracy; and two nieces: Claire and Kathryn Tracy.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Walsh Tracy; and two brothers: George Patrick Tracy and Daniel John Tracy.
Memorial contributions may be made in Steven’s memory to the Delta County Livestock Association Scholarship Fund, c/o of Robbie LeValley, P.O. Box 238, Hotchkiss, CO 81419, or the Hotchkiss Elk’s Lodge #1807, P.O. Box 96, Hotchkiss, CO 81419.

Eva Holybee
December 21, 1906 - July 18, 2003
GRAND JUNCTION - Longtime North Fork resident, Eva Holybee, died on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Bright Star Homes in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 96.
Graveside funeral services for Eva will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2003, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia, Colorado, with James Gall officiating.
Eva Holdredge was born on December 21, 1906, to Hyman H. and Jennette “Jennie” Evelyn (Hallett) Holdredge in Chase County, Nebraska. In 1913, the family moved to Delta, Utah, and then to Loma, Colorado. In 1918, they moved to Hotchkiss. Eva graduated from Fruita High School in 1924, and then attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, for one year.
On March 13, 1926, Eva married Charles F. Holybee in Fruita, Colorado. They moved to Paonia where they lived for over forty - six years together until his death on October 31, 1982, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Eva then married Walker “Slim” Gierhart in Paonia on August 30, 1984. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1986, in Paonia. In 1994, She moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she resided until her death.
Mrs. Holybee was a member of the First Christian Church in Paonia. She also belonged to the Midway Ladies Club, of which she was a charter member, and the Extension Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, and growing fruit. Eva was a good cook and you could always find wonderful homemade cookies in her cookie jar.
Those grateful to have shared in Eva’s life include a son, Leslie Holybee of Seminole, Florida; a daughter, Iris Allred of Grand Junction, Colorado; and a daughter - in - law, Joyce Holybee of Paonia, Colorado. She is further survived by ten grandchildren, seventeen great - grandchildren, several step - great - grandchildren, and six and one half great - great - grandchildren. The seventh one is due to be born in September.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a son, Ronald Holybee; three sisters: Florence and Iva McCallister, and Fern Ungaro; four brothers: Ted, Maurice, Leslie, and Russell; and one great - grandchild, Ryan Malone.
Memorial contributions may be made in Eva’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.

Raymond L. Hawkins
June 7, 1914 - July 16, 2003
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Raymond L. Hawkins, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 89.
There are no services scheduled at this time. Mr. Hawkins cremains will be scattered over the White Ranch on 25 Mesa at a later date.
Raymond Leroy Hawkins was born to the late Timon Huston “Ray” Hawkins and Maude (White) Hawkins Dannels on June 7, 1914 on 25 Mesa in Rural Montrose County, Colorado. He spent his childhood and attended school in Delta.
On November 11, 1934 in Delta, Raymond married Jackie Doyle Geyer. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1997 in Delta. He and Jackie spent several years in California before returning to Delta in 1946.
Mr. Hawkins had been a farmer and a contractor. His most recent accomplishment was developing Westwinds Airpark Airport in Delta, where he enjoyed going on airplane and glider rides. He loved spending time with his family, friends and the development of his real estate. He also enjoyed football.
Survivor’s include one daughter, Rayelle Floyd and husband Chuck of Denver, CO; one son, Jack L. Hawkins and wife Carolyn of Delta; and a sister, Clara Wallis of Mesa, AZ; and a step - brother Virgil Page. Raymond is further survived by five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and six great - great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife he was also preceded in death by a brother, Roye Hawkins; and three step - others, Jack Dannels, Harold Page and Otis Page.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Pea Green Cemetery, c/o Joann Anders, 52684 Banner Rd., Delta, CO 81416.

Mildred Lynn Bowles
August 14, 1910 - July 14, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Cedaredge resident, Mildred Bowles, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital, one month before her 93rd birthday.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 18th at the Community United Methodist Church in Cedaredge. Pastor Dale Lovett will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery.
Mildred Lynn Dolph was born on August 14, 1910 in Cedaredge to the late Lewis and Mary (Patterson) Dolph. Her parents were pioneers to Colorado from Pennsylvania via Nebraska in 1903. She spent all but five years of her life in Cedaredge.
Mildred married Sam W. Bowles on October 27, 1933 in Cedaredge. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Bowles raised six children and enjoyed her family and home. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Proudly she made quilts for Cedar Mesa Club and her church. She was president of the United Methodist Women several times. At the time of her death she held the office of president of Cedar Craft Club. Table games and card clubs were her passion. Still
a member of the Delta County Rock Wranglers, she provided many programs for them. Mildred was a devoted volunteer for the Pioneer Town Museum, the Methodist Migrant Thrift Shop and was cashier for many years for the Senior Meals.
Survivors include three sons: David Bowles and wife Suzie of New Freedom, PA, Nathan Bowles and wife Billie of El Paso, TX and Allan Bowles and wife Nancy of Kailua, HI; three daughters, Elaine Kukulan and husband Thomas of Grand Junction, Carol Dobson and husband Richard of Cypress, CA and Irene Bowman and husband Michael also of Grand Junction; one sister, Mary Wickersham of Boulder, CO. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 396, Cedaredge, CO 81413 or to the Historical Society (Pioneer Town Museum), P.O. Box 906, Cedaredge, CO 81413.

Mary Ellen Love
April 20, 1930 - July 14, 2003
DELTA - Delta resident, Mary Ellen Love died Monday, July 14, 2003 at her residence. She was 73.
A funeral service is planned for 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 17th at the First Assembly of God in Delta. Pastors Robert Smith and Lee Ponder will officiate. Interment will follow at Grand View Cemetery in Montrose, Colorado where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Mary Ellen Mason was born on April 20, 1930 in Marianna, Arkansas to the late Walter and Pearl (Davis) Mason. She spent her childhood in Montrose and attended North Side High School there.
On July 11, 1947, in Montrose, Mary Ellen married James W. Love. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1975 in Moab, Utah.
Mary had been a custodian for the Grand County School District in Moab, Utah for 18 years. She had resided in Utah and Wyoming before moving to Delta 3 years ago. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Delta. Her interests included ceramics and crafts.
Survivors grateful to have shared in Mary’s life include two daughters: Linda Lewis and husband J.L. of Port Lavaca, Texas and Sandra Morgan and husband Buster of Delta; two sisters: Etta Faye Burgess of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Margie Louise Patterson of Olathe, Colorado; a brother, Walter Mason, Jr. of Delta; six grandchildren, James Sanborn of Salt Lake City, Utah, Michael Sanborn of Delta, Rita Strang of Center Point, Iowa, Candy Stanford of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mark Lewis of San Antonio, Texas and Aimee Pena of Port Lavaca, Texas. Mary is further survived by 13 great grandchildren and one great - great grandchild.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Granvil Elsworth Love, a daughter, Sarah Pearl Hill Hartman, a grandson, Robert James Hill and a brother, William Ray Mason.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Shannon R. Brown
March 31, 1943 - July 14, 2003
DELTA - Former Cedaredge resident, Shannon R. Brown, died on Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 60.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 17th starting at 9:00 a.m. until service time at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Funeral services for Shannon will be held at 10:00 a.m., July 17th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Pastor Don Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Olathe Cemetery, Olathe, Colorado.
Shannon Rose Hunt was born to Roscoe Leroy and Bonnie Ausbon (Garrett) Hunt on March 31, 1943, in Bend, Oregon. She spent her childhood in Gunnison and graduated from Gunnison High School in 1961. She lived in Cedaredge for over twenty years before moving to Las Vegas Nevada, where she had resided for the past sixteen years. Shannon moved to Delta three months ago.
On August 5, 1961, Shannon married Donald L. Brown in Gunnison, Colorado. He survives.
Mrs. Brown, a homemaker, was a member of the Cedaredge Seventh - day Adventist Church. She also belonged to the Cedaredge Rebecca Lodge. The love of her life was all of her kids and grandkids.
Those grateful to have shared in Shannon’s life include her husband, Don Brown of Delta; three sons: Clark Brown and his wife Dianne of Colorado Springs, CO, Warren Brown of Olathe, CO, and Mark Brown and his wife Jeannie of Delta, CO; five sisters: Yvonne Ashurst and her husband Bob of Cedaredge, CO, Donna Richardson and her husband Red of Delta, CO, Carolynn Fike and her husband John, Roxie Ranftl, and Bonnie Gill and her husband Richard all of Las Vegas, NV. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren. Shannon was preceded in death by her parents.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Berdetta A. Knight
April 8, 1938 - July 12, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Berdetta A. Knight, a resident of Hotchkiss, Colorado, died on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Hotchkiss.
Private services will be held.
Berdetta A. Lehar was born to Henry Lehar and his wife, on April 8, 1938, in Silt, Colorado. She spent her life in the Western Colorado area. Berdetta came to Hotchkiss six years ago where she has resided since.
On June 3, 1956, Berdetta married Leland Knight in Grand Junction, Colorado. He preceded her in death.
Berdetta enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening and landscaping.
Survivors include a son, Tim Knight of Paonia; three daughters: Irene Lamunyon and her husband Robert of Detroit, MI, Julia Lange and her husband Dale of Grand Junction, CO, and Patricia Fortenberry and her husband Jackie of Deming, NM; one brother, Vernon Lehar of Grand Junction, CO; an aunt, Fannie Spano of Grand Junction. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, ten great - grandchildren and two nephews.
Berdetta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leland; and a son, Carroll Knight.

Clenton R. Hood
August 28, 1966 - July 11, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Cedaredge resident, Clenton R. Hood, died Friday, July 11, 2003 at his residence. He was 36.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 16th at Delta City Cemetery, Delta, Colorado, with Pastor Bob Hillyer officiating.
Clenton R. Hood was born on August 28, 1966, to Truman and Delores (Steers) Hood at Spanish Fork, Utah. He spent his childhood in Springville, Utah and attended school there. He had been a resident of Cedaredge for two years.
Clenton married Natalie Frank on June 15, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives. He was previously married to Tammy Lee. This marriage was dissolved.
Mr. Hood was a member of the Assembly of God in Cedaredge. He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie Hood of Cedaredge; his mother, Delores Peebles of Delta, CO; his father and step - mother, Truman and Majel Hood of Littlefield, AZ; three sons: Clayton, Anthony, and Dylan Hood all of Cedaredge; two daughters: Gracey and Summer Hood both of Cedaredge; a brother, Clifton Hood and his wife Kathleen of Delta; two sisters: Patricia Mortenson of Payson, Utah, and Valerie Hill and her husband Sam of Provo, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Trina Boyle; and his former wife, Tammy Hood.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Wilfred H. Congdon
October 23, 1911 - July 11, 2003
ECKERT - Longtime Eckert resident, Wilfred H. Congdon, died at his residence on Friday, July 11, 2003. He was 91.
Memorial services for Mr. Congdon will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge, Colorado, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
Wilfred Hunt Congdon was born on October 23, 1911, to John Solon and Ellen (Kellogg) Congdon in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Ft. Collins and graduated from high school there in 1930. He went to Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, and graduated from there in 1934.
On November 21, 1938, Wilfred married Esther Etta Bassett in Iwo, Nigeria, Africa. She survives.
Wilfred resided in Nigeria, Africa, from 1937 until 1979. He and Esther moved to Malawi, Africa, in 1979, and lived there until 1981, when they retired and moved to Eckert.
Mr. Congdon had been employed as a missionary architect for the International Mission Board Southern Baptist Convention for forty - four years. He belonged to the Surface Creek Historical Society. Wilfred enjoyed fishing, painting and drawing, woodworking, and music. He was especially talented in playing the trumpet and accordion.
Those grateful to have shared in Wilfred’s life include his wife, Esther of Eckert, CO; three sons: Roger Congdon and his wife Sandy of Phoenix, AZ, Richard Congdon and his wife Jena of Miami, FL, and Robert Congdon and his wife Gail of Nashville, TN; three brothers: Albert Congdon and his wife Katie of Cedaredge, Roger Congdon and his wife Gwen of Portland, OR, and Charles Congdon and his wife Marian of Goldendale, WA. He is further survived by four grandchildren and three great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nora; and four brothers: George, John, Edwin, and Tom.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church for Youth Ministry, P.O. Box 458, Cedaredge, CO 81413.

Robert R. Pemberton
August 11, 1933 - July 8, 2003
PAONIA - Paonia resident, Robert R. Pemberton died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at his residence. He was 69.
A memorial service is planned for 3:30 p.m., Friday, July 11th at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia. James Gall will officiate. A private inurnment will take place at Ft. Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Robert R. Pemberton was born on August 11, 1933 in McDonald, Kansas to the late Levardus A. “L.A.” and Ida May (Hill) Pemberton. He spent his childhood in McDonald and graduated from high school in 1952 in Atwood, Kansas. He continued his education at McCook College in Nebraska.
Robert married Lula Anderson on April 12, 1978 in Eagle, Colorado. She preceded him in death.
Robert was a test driller for the United States Geological Survey. He had also served in the U.S. Army. Robert moved to Paonia in 1991 after spending 14 years in Lakewood, Colorado. He had also been a resident of Northglenn, Colorado for 10 years. Among his many interests, he most loved old cars, fishing, boating, traveling and golfing. He was a member of the Wilson - Head American Legion Post No. 92 in Paonia.
Survivor’s include one daughter, Debra Crocker and husband Jim of Woodland Park, CO; a step daughter, Pamela McGrath of Kinsley, MI; one step - son, James Proctor of Keystone, CO; one brother, Edwin Eugene Pemberton and wife Helen of Northglenn, CO; and one sister, Ardis Jones of Bonwier, TX. Robert is further survived by three grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Denise Pemberton and a son - in - law, Richard McGrath.
