Vonda Hilthon Hoy

Vonda Hilthon Hoy, a former Durango resident, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Grand Junction after a lengthy illness. She was 50.

Mrs. Hoy was born Jan. 13, 1949, in Con Can, Texas. She was a resident of Durango and Cornville, Ariz.

Mrs. Hoy worked as a land man doing title curative work involving drilling rights for the oil and gas industry. She also designed computer systems for title companies nationwide.

Mrs. Hoy was an accomplished photographer, and author of a cookbook she compiled for a Phoenix Baptist church.

Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Robert; her parents, Bobbie L. and Carmelita "Corky" Hilthon of Con Can, Texas; a sister, Ronda Chumley of Katy, Texas; a brother, Karl Hilthon of Con Can, Texas; and nieces and nephews, Denise, Chip and Richelle Chumley and Nicole and Beau Hilthon.

Services were held on Nov. 5 at the Clarkdale Baptist Church in Clarkdale, Ariz.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research.

Ramey Michael Chabarria

Ramey Michael Chabarria died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas, after a long illness. He was 41.

Mr. Chabarria was born April 29, 1958.

Prior to his death, Mr. Chabarria was a resident of Durango.

Survivors include his parents, Ramey Chabarria and Christine Riggs; his sons, Michael L. Chabarria and Ramey P. Chabarria and their mother, Rachel Greer of Durango; one daughter, April Grossman; and three sisters, Linda Griego, Jeanie Godfrey and Debbie Chabarria.

Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 Carolina Drive, El Paso, Texas, and a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday.

His family is accepting calls at (915) 851-0438.

Earl Henry Knickerbocker

Memorial services are pending for Earl Henry Knickerbocker, a five-year resident of Durango who died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Denver Health Medical Center. He was 86.

Cremation will be at Hood Mortuary in Durango.

Mr. Knickerbocker was born May 22, 1913, in Manchester, Mich. He married Ella Ernistine Pawson at Manchester and was a carpenter in Ann Arbor, Mich., for 30 years. He retired to Florida for 17 years before moving to Durango five years ago.

He was a member of the Durango-La Plata Senior Center, and enjoyed reading and watching the Colorado Rockies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella, in 1969.

He is survived by three sons, Clare W. Knickerbocker of Bayfield, Gary Knickerbocker of Durango, and Glenn Knickerbocker of Durango; nine grandchildren; and, one great-grandchild.

Louis A. Zellitti

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Denver for Louis A. Zellitti, who died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Denver, Colo. He was 73.

The cause of death was not available.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.

Mr. Zellitti was born July 23, 1926. He graduated from Durango High School.

Mr. Zellitti served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he moved to the Denver area.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Denver; four daughters, Kathleen Inscoe, Colleen Helm, Marlene Zellitti and Carolyn Johnson, all of Denver; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Anthony Zellitti of Durango; three nephews, Gary, Barry and Terry Zellitti, all of Durango; and cousins from Durango.

Memorial donations may be made to Mother Cabrini Shrine, 20189 Cabrini Blvd., Golden, CO 80401, Attn: Joann.

Mack O’Neal

A memorial gathering will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Mack O’Neal, the former director of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Social Service Department, who died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, near Bayfield in a car accident. He was 60.

Family and friends will officiate at services.

Mr. O’Neal was born June 13, 1939, in Roswell, N.M. He received his master’s degree from Denver University.

Mr. O’Neal was a resident of the area for the past 25 years. He had recently retired as director of the Social Service Department of the Southern Ute Tribe, where he had worked more than 20 years. He was active with domestic violence causes and other community affairs.

He is survived by a sister, Helen Spearman, of San Antonio, Texas.

Marie R. Cummings Snook

Marie R. Cummings Snook of Durango died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 86.

The cause of death was not available.

Mrs. Snook was born May 1, 1913, in Creede, Colo. She lived in Archuleta County when she moved there at a young age.

She met her husband, Elbert L. Snook, and lived on the ranch for several years before moving to Arizona.

Mrs. Snook moved back to this area in 1988.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert.

Survivors include her nieces, Helen L. Schoonover of Pagosa Springs and Letha Tucker of Durango and five other nieces and two nephews.

No services are planned at this time.

Barbara Ann ‘Barby’ Fleener

A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Bayfield High School gymnasium for Barbara Ann "Barby" Fleener, who died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, after a battle with cancer. She was 44.

The Rev. Ned Amstutz will officiate. There will be cremation.

Mrs. Fleener was born July 1, 1955, in Colorado Springs. She moved to Durango one month later and has been a lifelong resident of the Bayfield-Durango area. She was a graduate of Durango High School and attended Wayland Bible College in Plainview, Texas.

She married Gerald "Jerry" Fleener on June 22, 1974. Mrs. Fleener worked for Forrest Dean Brown as a dental assistant and office manager for 23 years.

Mrs. Fleener sang with a Christian women’s group, "New Hope," and participated in youth ministry as a Sunday school teacher and member of a Teen Bible Study Group in Bayfield. She was a past member of the Bayfield Pee Wee Wrestling organization and was a founding and active member of the Bayfield Booster Club. She supported La Plata County Youth Baseball and was instrumental in starting a baseball program at Bayfield High School. In May 1999, Mrs. Fleener was selected as the Parent of the Year.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Fleener and her son, Isaac, both of Bayfield; her parents, Mildred and Orville McCoy of Durango; four sisters, Susan Holman of Indianola, Iowa, Priscilla McCoy of Denver, Sandra Wells of Ely, Nev., and Pamela Crawford of Grand Junction; two brothers, Dell McCoy of Murrieta, Calif., and Ed McCoy of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barby Fleener Memorial Baseball Fund, c/o Pine River Valley Bank, 301 North Commerce Drive, Bayfield CO 81122 or to Hospice of Mercy, 375 East Park Ave., Durango, CO 81301.

Suzanne Sue Watts

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Indian Baptist Church in Ignacio for Suzanne Sue Watts of Ignacio, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Durango. She was 31.

The cause of death was not available.

The Rev. Kelly Winlock will officiate. Burial will be at Ouray Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary. A wake will be at 6 p.m. today at the Watts family home at 23146 Colorado Highway 172.

Ms. Watts was born Oct. 27, 1968. She attended school in Ignacio.

Ms. Watts was a homemaker. She liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Rock of Ignacio; three sons, Darvin Rock, Derrick Watts and Darren Rock, all of Ignacio; a daughter, Dionna Rock of Ignacio; her mother, Rosa Watts of Ignacio; two sisters, Gloria Frost and Virginia Watts, both of Ignacio; four brothers, Tim Watts of La Boca, Colo., and Rapheal Watts Sr., Marshall Watts and Robert Watts, all of Ignacio; two aunts, Colleen Sage of Ignacio and Crystal Hanson of Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
