Patricia Ellen Aragon

A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Pagosa Springs High School gym for Patricia Ellen Aragon, who died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Farmington, N.M., after a battle with cancer. She was 57.

Mrs. Aragon was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Stillwater, Minn. Her early years were spent in Minnesota and Montana. In 1956, her family moved to Pagosa Springs. She graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1961.

In 1962, she married Ross Aragon. They owned Al’s and Al’s West restaurants.

Mrs. Aragon served on the school board for 12 years and presented her children, niece, nephew and friends with their diplomas. She enjoyed gardening and painting.

Survivors include her husband, Ross; six children, Matthew, Mark, Eric, Shelley Roman, Jacque and Juanita; five grandchildren, Kyle, Sydney and Connor Aragon, Blake Roman and Jacob Jolley; her father, Arthur Pederson; a sister, Susie Kleckner and two brothers, Don and Jim Pederson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pagosa Springs community center in her memory, c/o Patricia Aragon Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 26, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.

Marjorie Behrens

Memorial services will be at Lake Fork Cemetery in Atwood, Ill., at a later date for Ruth Marjorie Behrens, who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Behrens was born Aug. 5, 1913, in Atwood, Ill. She lived in Metuchen, N.J., from 1948 to 1999, until the death of her husband, Herbert E. Behrens, on March 9, 1999. She moved to Durango in May 1999.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane Carman of Durango, Kay Behrens of Claremont, Calif., and Fay Behrens of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; two sons, Mark Behrens of Metuchen, N.J., and Lee Behrens of Georgetown, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Beulah Miller

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary for Beulah Miller, a longtime resident of Durango, who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Four Corners Health Center. She was 95.

Chaplain Myron Darmour will officiate at services. Burial will occur at Crestview Cemetery in Durango. Visitation will be at Hood mortuary today from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. Miller was born Beulah Keeney on Dec. 4, 1904, in Redmud, Texas. She married Thomas B. Miller on April 6, 1936. After graduating from Aztec High School in 1924, Mrs. Miller taught school in Allison for a short time. She loved to cook, and enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is survived by a daughter, Noreen Starbuck of Aztec, N.M.; three sons, Edwin Scofield of Ignacio, David Miller of Leesburg, Va., and Ronnie Miller of Bayfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas B. Miller; two daughters, Doris Cox and Margaret Maier; and a son, Thomas Rex Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Mercy, 3801 N. Main Ave., Durango, Colo., 81301.

Evelyn Luella Hildenbrand Odekirk

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Evelyn Luella Hildenbrand Odekirk, a former Mercy Medial Center employee, who died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Four Corners Health Center. She was 86.

Father Mike McCleary and Chaplain Myron will officiate at services. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. There will be a visitation held at Hood Mortuary from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Odekirk was born Evelyn McGue, July 13, 1914, in Durango. She married George (Chuckers) Hildenbrand Aug. 18, 1934, in Aztec, N.M.

A graduate of Durango High School and Seaton School of Nursing in Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Odekirk worked at several community hospitals. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.

Mrs. Odekirk is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Boughan of Aztec, Barbara Cook of Farmington, and Bernice Dotson of Carthage, Texas; a son, John Hildenbrand of Evergreen, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Odekirk was preceded in death by her husband, George Hildenbrand, and her daughter, Linda K. Hildenbrand Williamson.

Friends are invited to a reception following the service at the Boughan Residence, 91 Road 3050, Aztec, NM.

Isabel Victoria Abeyta

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter-St. Rosa Catholic Church for Isabel Victoria Abeyta, who died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at her home in Arboles. She was 75.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

The Rev. Eddy Andary will officiate. Burial will be at Rosa Cemetery in Arboles.

Mrs. Abeyta was born April 5, 1925, in Durango and was a lifelong resident of this area.

She married John B. Abeyta Jan. 29, 1946, in Durango.

Mrs. Abeyta loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Abeyta of Arboles; four sons, Eugene Abeyta of Denver, Colo., John L. Abeyta of Grand Junction, Colo., Abie Abeyta of Arboles and Preston Abeyta of Ignacio; a daughter, Doreen Candelaria of Farmington, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam Barry of Bernalillo, N.M., and Rudy Barry of Durango; a sister, Josephine Silva of Farmington, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mercy, 375 East Park Ave., Durango, CO 81301.

Lena Richardson Oveson

Lena Richardson Oveson died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Durango. She was 85. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Mrs. Oveson was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Alluwe, Okla. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., from northeastern Oklahoma in 1941, where she lived until moving to this area in 1948.

Mrs. Oveson was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.P. Oveson, in 1972.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Newton of Durango and Fountain Hills, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Ginger Breed of Durango and Pamela Folsom of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; five great-grandsons; and a sister, Lona A. Burkett of Cottonwood, Ariz.

There will be a private family gathering. Mrs. Oveson requested cremation and no services.

Col. Orin Shelby ‘Rich’ Richardson

Col. Orin Shelby "Rich" Richardson died of natural causes Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in an Albuquerque Palliative Care facility. He was 91.

Col. Richardson was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Oklahoma. He retired in 1964 after 33 years in the Air Force.

Col. Richardson was an owner of the Wildorado Ranch and part-time resident of Durango for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Gene; two daughters, Jeri Mac Burkett of Durango and Vicki Koger of Osklaoosa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Evan Burkett, Kathryn Shelby Burkett White, Daniela Koger and Caleb Koger; and two great-grandchildren.

A private ceremony and burial was held at the family ranch near Durango.

Mac Beth Carnes

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church for Mac Beth Carnes, who died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 74. The cause of death was not disclosed. The Rev. Bill Postler will officiate.

Mrs. Carnes was born July 14, 1926, in Anson, Texas. She married Marion M. Carnes March 19, 1951, at her father’s ranch in Las Animas County, Colo.

Mrs. Carnes had lived in Durango since 1969. Mrs. Carnes was very active in the First Presbyterian Church. She loved riding horses and raised and trained show dogs. She earned a degree in medical technology in 1948 from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Survivors include her husband, Marion, of Durango, a son, Donald Marion Carnes, of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister, Murray Ann Ritter, of San Diego, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1161 East Third Ave., Durango, CO, 81301.

Luthera McNerlin

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Luthera McNerlin, a day-care operator, who died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at her home in Durango. She was 50.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

The Rev. Dan Straw will officiate at services.

Mrs. McNerlin was born Oct. 29, 1950. She married Armen McNerlin on Feb. 12, 1977, in San Diego. Mrs. McNerlin moved to Durango in June 1981. She devoted her life to child-care development and operated the Angel Babies Play Home School. She enjoyed crafts and making them with children. She was a volunteer at Sunnyside Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband, Armen, of Durango; two sons, Brandon McNerlin of Anchorage, Alaska, and Shawn McNerlin of Durango; three sisters, Judy Schultze of Minburn, Iowa, Maxine Kelly of Perry, Iowa, and Nancy Shepard of Pagosa Springs; three brothers, Dick Brown of Goffstown, N.H., Bob Brown of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Roy Stevens of Pagosa Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara K. Todd

Barbara K. Todd died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Sun Health Care Center in Sun City, Ariz. She was 83.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Mrs. Todd was born in Durango. She graduated from Arizona Teachers College and was a teacher.

Mrs. Todd moved to Arizona in 1979 from Colorado. She was a member of St. Christophers Episcopal Church, the church’s Sewing Club, Aquatic Club, Pen Women, Calligraphy, American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma and Sewing Club at Oakmont Recreation Center.

Survivors include three sons, John of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard of Sun City, Ariz., and Stanley of California; a sister, Abigail Myers of California; and a brother, Keith Rucker of Oregon.

The service was private.
