Dolores D. Divine
Feb. 18, 1922 - Sept. 1, 2000

Dolores D. Divine of Louisville died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. She was 78.

She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Carterville, Ill., to James Albert Darnell and Maggie Lena Young Darnell. She married Hurchel "Buck" Ray Divine on June 28, 1941, in Nevada, Mo. He died in 1958.

She moved to Boulder from Kentucky in 1976. She worked as a legal secretary in Princeton, Ky., and as a secretary at Storage Technology Corp.

Survivors include a brother, Donald K. Darnell of Boulder.

A graveside service will be held Friday in Nevada, Mo.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Golden West Manor in Boulder.

Contributions may be made to Golden West Senior Residence, 1055 Adams Circle, Boulder, 80305 or to Hospice of Boulder County, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, 80027.

Marilyn Carol Dempsey
Feb. 1, 1935 - Sept. 5, 2000

Marilyn Carol Dempsey of Boulder died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. She was 65.

She was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Rockford, Ill., to Andrew Kapala and Thelma Holt Kapala.

She married Robert C. Dempsey on Nov. 26, 1960, in Rockford.

She moved to Boulder from Rockford seven years ago.

Mrs. Dempsey was a self-employed accountant.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Boulder.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two sons, Michael Dempsey and Thomas Dempsey, both of Boulder; a daughter, Stacy Dempsey of Auckland, New Zealand; a brother, Vernon Kapala of Canton, Ill.; and two sisters, Laurie Monaco and Norma Robbins, both of Orlando, Fla.

A private family memorial Mass will be held.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, CO 80303.

Dr. Vernon John Forney
Aug. 28, 1914 - Sept. 6, 2000

Dr. Vernon John Forney of Longmont died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Applewood Living Center. He was 86.

Born Aug. 28, 1914, in Valparaiso, Ind., he was the son of John L. Forney and Jennie Collar Forney. He married Helen Thompson in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 2, 1941.

Dr. Forney completed his undergraduate work at Muskingum College and Valparaiso University, attended medical school at Indiana University and did post-graduate work at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

He worked for the U.S. Public Health Service for 36 years, as well as with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Joint Health Organization with the Brazilian Department of Health. He was a pioneer in the development of fluoride treatment and was a retired assistant U.S. Surgeon General.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 32 of Longmont and enjoyed traveling and activities at the Longmont Regent.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a son, Richard T. Forney of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Janet McRoberts of Longmont; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Langus, and a brother, William Forney.

Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Longmont Regent, 2211 N. Main St., Longmont.

Erlinger Cremation & Funeral Service of Longmont is in charge of arrangements.

Olivia Sydney Horn
July 16, 2000 - Sept. 6, 2000

Olivia Sydney Horn of Lafayette died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Denver.

She was among quadruplets born July 16, 2000, in Denver to Doug Horn and Dawn D. Malone Horn. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander Scott Horn, who died on Aug. 21, 2000.

Survivors include her parents of Lafayette; two sisters, Natalie Ann and Christina Ellie Horn; her grandparents, Joe and Judy Maloney of Virginia and Richard and Nancy Horn of Glendale, Ariz.; and a great-grandmother, Eloise Norman of Marietta, Ga.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at the Lafayette Cemetery.

Pauline Towne
Sept. 25, 1923 - Aug. 31, 2000

Pauline Towne of Boulder died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Terrace Heights Care Center in Boulder. She was 76.

She was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Manchester, N.H., to Joseph Bonin and Albertina Dussault Bonin. She married James Weeks in 1949 in Manchester. They were divorced. She married George Towne in 1974 in Boulder. He died in 1975.

Mrs. Towne was a homemaker and secretary at the Alumni Office of the University of Colorado in Boulder. She retired in 1984.

She moved to Boulder in 1961 from Ypsilanti, Mich.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Weeks of Boulder; and a son, Dana Weeks of Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Weeks.

A memorial Mass will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

Nancy Davis
Dec. 4, 1951 - Oct. 27, 2000

Nancy Davis of Riverside, Iowa, formerly of Boulder, died Oct. 27, 2000, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was 49.

The daughter of Richard Davis and Florence Hobstetter Davis, she was born Dec. 4, 1951, in Iowa City.

She lived in Boulder from 1971 to 1989. She worked at Potter's, Berardi's and Tico's restaurants and the Daily Camera.

She liked animals, gardening and nature.

Survivors include her mother of Iowa City; a sister, Jan Smith of Boulder; and two brothers, Jim Davis and Bob Davis, both of Iowa City.

Her father preceded her in death.

Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, 2323 55 St., Boulder, CO 80301.

Beatrice Higgins
March 15, 1912 - Nov. 6, 2000

Beatrice Higgins of Boulder died in an accident at home on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000. She was 88.

The daughter of Don Pascasio Olivas Portillo and Justine DuSallard, she was born March 15, 1912, in Toledo, Spain. She married Homer L. Higgins in El Paso, Texas, in 1942. He died Feb. 23, 1973.

Mrs. Higgins was a retired school teacher and a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service. She also volunteered at a senior center in El Paso.

She moved to Boulder County seven years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosie H. Tracy of Boulder.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 today at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

Laura Glassover Lewis
Jan. 20, 1963 - Nov. 4, 2000

Laura Glassover Lewis of Boulder died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000. She was 37.

Born Jan 20, 1963, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was the daughter of Stan Glassover and Gail Winetraub Glassover. She married Pete Lewis in 1988 in Sacramento, Calif.

Mrs. Lewis was the author of five books on miracles and was a former marketing manager for Prima Publishing. She moved to Boulder in 1991.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; a daughter, Olivia Lewis; a son, Evan Lewis; her father and stepmother, Rosemary Glassover; a sister, Julie Puma; and two stepsisters, Cecilia Barker and Louisa Glassover.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Boulder Valley Christian Church, 7100 South Boulder Road, Boulder.

George Arthur Codding Jr.
June 23, 1923 - Dec. 28, 2001

George Arthur Codding Jr. of Louisville, formerly of Boulder, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Louisville. He was 78.

The son of George A. Codding and Maude Corlies Codding, he was born June 23, 1923, in Salem, Ore. He married Madeline Holcomb in England on Sept. 16, 1950. They divorced. He married Yolanda Legnini on June 16, 1961, in Philadelphia. She died Oct. 7, 2001.

He grew up in Medford, Ore. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1943 and a master's in 1948 from the University of Washington. He received a doctorate in political science from the University of Geneva in Switzerland in 1952.

Mr. Codding was a lecturer and associate professor of political science at the University of Pennsylvania for eight years and was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 1958. He became an associate professor at the University of Colorado in 1961 and four years later became a full professor, a position he held until his retirement in 1993.

At CU he was chairman of the political science department for two years and director of the university's international affairs program for 28 years. He co-founded CU's multi-disciplinary telecommunications master's program.

Mr. Codding also was a consultant in international telecommunications and telecommunications policy for various entities, including the International Telecommunications Union, the International Institute of Communication, the African National Congress, the National Research Council, the Department of Commerce, the Federal Communications Commission, the President's Office of Telecommunications Policy and UNESCO.

He published eight books on international telecommunications, satellite communications, international organizations and French and Swiss government and politics. He also published more than 50 articles and book chapters.

He was an avid fly fisherman, who tied his own flies and fished extensively in Colorado and the West, as well as in other parts of the world, his family said.

Survivors include a sister, Gail Covey of Medford, Ore.; two daughters, Christine Codding of Martinez, Calif., and Jennifer Addams of San Francisco; two sons, George Codding III of Louisville and William Codding of San Francisco; and a grandson.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at Koenig Alumni Center, 1202 University Ave. Boulder.
