Anthony 'Tony' Caputa
Dec. 12, 1949 - Aug. 11, 2000

Anthony "Tony" Caputa of Loveland, and formerly of Boulder, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at home. He was 50.

The son of Frank Caputa and Dorothy Lee Caputa, he was born Dec. 12, 1949, in St. Louis. He married Michelle Totten on Sept. 9, 1995, in St. Louis.

He graduated second in his class from Missouri Carpenter's Apprenticeship Program. Mr. Caputa moved to Boulder in 1976 and then to Loveland in 1995.

He owned and operated Caputa Construction in Boulder. After moving to Loveland, he worked for Local Union 510.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder.

He enjoyed fishing and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include his grandmother, Dorothy Bryan of St. Louis; his parents; his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Sheridan of Loveland and Renee May of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Robert Caputa of St. Louis and Steve Caputa of Robertsville, Mo.; two sisters, Colleen Hacker of St. Charles, Mo., and Mary Caputa of Longmont; and three grandchildren.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. The Rev. Allen Elder will officiate.

His remains will be cremated.

The family requests people donate blood to area hospitals.

Paula Mae Hewitt
Oct. 29, 1942 - Aug. 11, 2000

Paula Mae Hewitt of Boulder died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. She was 57.

The daughter of Wilbur Merle Mobley and Mildred Irene Haley Mobley, she was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Bloomington, Ind. She married Kenneth Hewitt on Jan. 2, 1962, in Prescott, Ariz. He died in April 1974.

Mrs. Hewitt had recently been employed as a calibration technician for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She previously worked as a paralegal for Martin and Mehaffy of Boulder and was the former clerk of the city court for the city of Prescott.

She graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott. She earned a bachelor's degree from Yavapai Community College in Prescott.

She moved to Boulder in June 1978.

She was member the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, the Order of Eastern Star and Queen Esther Chapter No. 5 of Boulder. She was the past grand chaplain for the Grand Chapter of the State of Colorado for the Order of Eastern Star, and the past grand representative to the State of Nevada for the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star for the State of Colorado.

Survivors include a son, Glen Edward Hewitt of Lafayette; a daughter, Sherrie Jane Boudreau of Broomfield; two sisters, Phylis Harper of Solsberry and Shirley Johnson, both of Solsberry, Ind; and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4655 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder.

Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Bishop Gordon Lewis, Mr. Bob Mercer, Bishop Allen Newell of the church and Joe Fisher of the Masonic Lodge officiating. Services will conclude at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Boulder County Unit Office, 1250 S. Hover Road, Longmont, CO 80501.

Michael Thomas Hoge
Jan. 16, 1983 - Aug. 13, 2000

Michael Thomas Hoge of Longmont died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at home. He was 17.

He was born Jan. 16, 1983, in Boulder, to Richard C. Hoge and Cynthia Ann Wood.

He was a senior at Longmont High School and was elected student body president for the coming school year. He was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in sports.

He was also a student ambassador to Chino, Japan, in 1998 as part of Longmont's Sister Cities Program.

He enjoyed cliff jumping, Frisbee, mountain biking and traveling.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Colton Hoge and Ben Hoge, both of Longmont; a sister, Rebecca Hoge of Longmont; and grandparents, Rosalie Hoge of Boulder, George and Lillian Hoge of California, and Tom and Mitzi Wood of Longmont.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lifebridge Church, 66th and Gay Street in Longmont. The Rev. Glenn Perica of Central Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Contributions may be made to the St. Vrain Valley Education Foundation or Central Presbyterian Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, CO 80501-5440.

Joseph Leon Holt
June 16, 1938 - Aug. 13, 2000

Joseph Leon Holt of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. He was 62.

He was born June 16, 1938, in Boulder to Joseph and Margaret Holt. He married Carolyn Hamby in 1957. They divorced. He married Laura Cramer on Dec. 26, 1998.

Mr. Holt grew up in Boulder and began working in the family business, Holt Electric Co., when he was 15. He entered the electrical apprenticeship program at 18. He had his own business in Boulder in the early 1960s, then moved to Colorado Springs in 1966. He moved to Kansas City in 1968 and worked for Evans Electric and recently retired from Capitol Electric.

Mr. Holt was a member of IBEW Local Union 68 of Boulder.

When he was young, he participated in drag racing in Boulder. He helped form the Boulder Timing Association and helped build a drag racing strip. He also belonged to the National Hot Rod Association.

He was an avid sportsman and bass fisherman. Mr. Holt belonged to the National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He also was active in the 1970s as a CB radio operator.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Holt and Russell Holt, both of Kansas City; a daughter, Jenelle Holt of Kansas City; a brother, Lyn Holt of Fruita; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mo.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Lung Association of Western Missouri, 2007 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo. 64108.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Jane Smith
July 2, 1927 — Aug. 13, 2000

Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Smith of Boulder County died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. She was 73.

The daughter of Joe Feeney and Marcella Lyons Feeney, she was born July 2, 1927, in Louisville, Ky. She married Loren "Les" Smith on Dec. 16, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

She was a registered nurse at Boulder Community Hospital in the 1950s. She volunteered at senior centers, nursing homes and Community Hospital.

She enjoyed the mountains.

She moved to Boulder County in 1951.

Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Jim Feeney of Boulder and Joe Feeney of Florida; a daughter, Karen Smith of Boulder; three sons, Tim Smith, Tony Smith and Chris Smith, all of Boulder; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin Smith and Bryan Smith; and a sister, Katherine McKee.

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the family farm, 3375 75th St. The Rev. Tom Trujillo will officiate.

Howe Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Lewis Edwin Davis
Feb. 28, 1920 - Aug. 14, 2000

Lewis Edwin Davis of Louisville died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Louisville. He was 80.

He was born Feb. 28, 1920, at New Milton, W.Va., to Lewis Townsend Davis and Dorthea Bee Davis. He married Marilyn Davis on May 27, 1949, in Riverside, Calif.

Mr. Davis worked as a pipe fitter in the gas department of Public Service Co. of Colorado for 30 years before retiring in 1982.

He moved to Boulder County from California in 1950.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Baptist Church in Boulder and Good Sams.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Lewis Eugene Davis of Broomfield; a daughter, Linda Sue Harris of Colorado Springs; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson B. Davis and Elston Leon Davis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Seventh-day Baptist Church in Boulder. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.

Donations may be made to Seventh-day Baptist Church, 6710 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO 80303.

Margaret 'Peggy' Mooney
March 30, 1927 - Aug. 13, 2000

Margaret "Peggy" Mooney, formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Baltimore. She was 73.

She was born March 30, 1927, in Peoria, Ill., to Leslie E. Welsh and Anna Grant Holden Welsh. She married James Thomas Mooney on June 18, 1949, in Bradford, Ill. He died March 3, 1985.

Mrs. Mooney received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Illinois at Champaign. She taught in Louisville and at Fairview High School in the early 1960s, at Manpower adult education in Denver from 1964 to 1968 and in Adult Education in Baltimore from 1968 to 1973. She was also a supervisor in Baltimore.

She was a pianist and a blue-ribbon baker. She did volunteer work, teaching religion to children with special needs. She belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima.

She lived in Boulder County from 1950 to 1964 and from 1998 to 1999.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Pass of Clearwater Springs, Texas, Sarah Morton of Baltimore, Kathleen Fagan of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Madonna Mooney of Boulder; a son, Thomas V. Mooney of Lakewood; two sisters, Mari Alyce Canonie of South Haven, Mich., and Gloria Voorheese of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Mooney; a brother, Holden Welsh; and a sister, Leslie Welsh.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet, 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olivet.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1985 Miller St., Lakewood, with the Rev. Louis Kirby officiating.

Mt. Olivet Cemetery Association of Golden is in charge of arrangements.

Alicemary Lawrence
July 20, 1920 - June 19, 2000

Alicemary Lawrence of Taft Towers in Boulder died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Boulder Manor. She was 79.

The daughter of Z.D. "Bud" Robinson and Alice Martin Robinson, she was born July 20, 1920, in Deer Trail, Minn. She married Stanley Edwardson. He died. She married George Lawrence in 1964.

She received her nursing degree and a master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota. She worked for many years as a school and public health nurse, most recently at the Boulder County Health Department.

Mrs. Lawrence moved to Boulder in 1964, retired to Sun City, Ariz., in 1978 and returned to Boulder in 1996.

She was active at First Presbyterian Church of Boulder as a co-skipper of Mariners. In Sun City, she was an ordained deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church, a Stephen Minister and active in United Presbyterian Women.

Mrs. Lawrence enjoyed golf, the outdoors and the Sun City Travel Trailer Club.

Survivors include her husband; her stepmother, Nora Robinson of Deer River, Minn.; two daughters, Susan Hindermann of Flemington, N.J., and Mary Jo Lawrence of Boulder; a son, Steven Lawrence of Boulder; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Lawrence and Rosemary Dimich.

A celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 1820 15th St., Boulder.
