Daniel Grier 'Dan' Wisotzkey
July 13, 1928 - July 25, 2000

Daniel Grier "Dan" Wisotzkey of Lafayette died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder. He was 72.

Born July 13, 1928, in Wrightsville, Pa., he was the son of Dorsey G. Wisotzkey and Janet Frances Smith. He married Dee M. Strevig on May 31, 1951, in Columbia, Pa.

He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Millersville University in Millersville, Pa., and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

A Lafayette resident since 1995, he formerly lived in Boulder from 1962 to 1995.

Mr. Wisotzkey was a teacher who began his career in a one-room school house in Sawpit, Colo. teaching seventh- and eighth-grade from 1952-1955. He was the school principal at Wattenburg and then was the elementary school principal in Platteville and in Akron. He later was the supervisor of transportation for the Boulder Valley School District and worked for the Colorado Department of Education as the supervisor of food services, child nutrition and school transportation, retiring in 1991.

He was national chairman of the School Transportation Section for the National Safety Council from 1968-1969, a member of the Colorado Food Service Association, and a former member of the National Education Association, of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity at UNC, Flatirons Country Club and Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566 of Boulder. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He received the Thomas P. O'Hearn Massachusetts School Food Service Association Legislative Award in 1986.

He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; two daughters, Theresa M. Hostler of Arlington, Texas, and Lucy K. Mack of Farson, Wyo.; three sons, Daniel G. Wisotzkey of Lafayette, Robert G. Wisotzkey of San Francisco and Richard J. Wisotzkey of Longmont; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

A Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Edward Madden will be celebrant. Services will conclude at the church.

Peter Dennis Slack
Aug. 25, 1948 - June 24, 2000

Peter Dennis Slack of Boulder died from a heart attack Saturday, June 24, 2000. He was 51.

The son of Ellis G. Slack and Adele Sovering Slack, he was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Berkeley, Calif. He married Jill Croft on June 13, 1981.

Mr. Slack moved to Boulder in 1966 and attended the University of Colorado, where he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1973.

From 1977 to 1981, he worked as an architect in Telluride. He was an independent architect in Boulder for more than 23 years. In 1993, he was presented with Historic Boulder's award for distinguished accomplishment and historic preservation in a remodel. He recently joined Gillans Inc. architecture and engineering firm in Westminster.

He was an active member of Boulder County's firefighting community for more than 19 years, most recently serving as director of the Regional Training Center. From 1994 to 1996, he was chief of the Pinebrook Hills Volunteer Fire Department. His book "Firewise Construction" was published by the Colorado State Forest Service in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter Jocelyn V. Slack-Reutebuch of Los Angeles; two sons, Andrew W. Slack and Jeremy Slack, both of Boulder; his mother of Boulder; his father of Greer, S.C.; two brothers, Bruce Slack of Louisville and Ellis G. Slack Jr. of San Diego; and two sisters, Jocelyn Wasson of Wilson, Wyo., and Jennifer Escher of Boston.

Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Pastures of Plenty Farm, 4039 Ogallala Road, Longmont.

A special Front Range Firefighter's memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fire Training Center, Lee Hill Road and Broadway, Boulder.

Joan W. Feldman
March 27, 1931 - June 28, 2000

Joan W. Feldman of Boulder died Wednesday, June 28, 2000. She was 69.

She was born March 27, 1931, in Ft. Morgan to Frank Woods and Enid Tiff Woods. She married John E. Feldman Jr. on March 26, 1954, in San Bernardino, Calif.

She moved to Boulder from Longmont in 1950. Mrs. Feldman worked as an elementary school teacher for the Boulder Valley School District. She retired in 1989.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Christian Women's Club.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; three daughters, Diane Lee Rench of Gaithersburg, Md., Pamela Kay Boudreau of Loveland and Kimberly Sue Burgardt of Broomfield; one son, Michael Scott Feldman of Rollinsville; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, 1237 Pine St., Boulder.

Ralph L. Hume
Jan. 10, 1916 - June 27, 2000

Ralph L. Hume of Boulder died of natural causes Tuesday, June 27, 2000. He was 84.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1916, in Indianola, Neb., to Paul Hume and Susan Colling Hume. He married Helen Ladwig on June 8, 1944, in Miami, Fla. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Hume was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and a member of the Boulder Elks and Trinity Lutheran Church.

He managed the Hotel Boulderado for 10 years after working as a bellhop there before World War II. He also worked at the MacArthur Beach Hotel in Venice, Fla., for two years. He was the classified ad manager at the Daily Camera for 21 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Hume of Boulder; a son, Sandy Hume of Boulder; a brother, Donald Hume of Boulder; and one granddaughter.

Services are private.

Arthur L. Kistner
Dec. 26, 1933 - June 21, 2000

Arthur L. Kistner of Boulder died at his home Wednesday, June 21, 2000. He was 66.

He was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Lincoln, Neb., to Carl E. Kistner and Leota I. Davis Kistner. He married Madge Zimmermenn on April 14, 1961, in Urbana, Ill.

From 1955 to 1958, he worked in Army intelligence.

He received a BA, MA and Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Illinois in Champaign.

He worked as an instructor at the University of Illinois; assistant professor at the University of Delaware; assistant professor at Cornell College; and an associate professor at the University of Colorado.

He moved to Boulder in 1968.

He enjoyed playing the piano, fishing, hiking, camping and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; and two sons, Karl Kistner of Las Vegas, Nev., and David Kistner of Boulder.

Services are private.

Ruth Ann Hagaman

April 20, 1949 - Sept. 30, 2000

Ruth Ann Hagaman died at her home in Longmont on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, after a long illness. She was 51.

A Boulder native, she was born April 20, 1949, to Bert Seltmann and Edna Allan Seltmann. She was raised in Boulder, moved to Sheridan, Wyo., in 1973 and then moved to Longmont in October 1989. She married Gene Hagaman in 1973. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hagaman was a cashier at several Longmont stores but primarily was a homemaker. She enjoyed the casinos at Black Hawk-Central City, yard sales and shopping. She was an active Seventh-day Adventist.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Shannon of Longmont, Allan Dale Hepler of Grand Junction and Ford Eugene Hagaman of Hannibal, Mo.; two daughters, Diamond Jean Williams of Longmont and Tonya Lorie Hagaman of Erie; four brothers, Eldon Lee Seltmann of San Pablo, Calif., Donald Seltmann of Boulder, Harvey Seltmann and Howard Seltmann, both of Longmont; three sisters, Mary Lou Rainsbarger of Weimar, Calif., Carol Mae Lucero of Dacono and Betty Fern St. Clair of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. Entombment will be held after the service at the columbarium at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Gideon Haas of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate.

Instead of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Boulder County-Longmont Branch, in care of the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

Valerie Lynn Burch
Oct. 15, 1945 - Jan. 1, 2001

Valerie Lynn Burch of Boulder died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. She was 55.

The daughter of Earl Allen Burch and Mildred J. Kilgore Burch, she was born Oct. 15, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kan. She married Martin Schmoldt Jr. They later divorced.

Living most of her life in Boulder, she worked for Continental Airlines and most recently with Career Track in Boulder. She resigned in 1999 due to her illness.

Survivors include her son, Martin Schmoldt of Northglenn; her parents of Fort Collins; two brothers, Michael Burch of Loveland and Kim Burch of Englewood; and two grandsons.

Cremation has occurred.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, 7070 N. 83rd St., Niwot.

David L. Affleck
Oct. 30, 1948 - Sept. 3, 2000

David Louis Affleck of Boulder died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at home. He was 51.

The son of William J. Affleck and Marie Haugh Affleck, he was born Oct. 30, 1948 in Chicago.

Mr. Moore was a cable fabricator who worked at Rocky Flats from 1970 to 1995.

He was a U.S. Army sergeant from 1967 to 1971.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and sports.

He moved to Boulder from Ogallala, Neb. in 1959.

Survivors include his mother; a son, David Scott Affleck of Lafayette; and four brothers, Robert Affleck of Longmont, Gregory Affleck of Westminster, Timothy Affleck of Westminster and Philip Affleck of Boulder.

His father preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Crist Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary chapel.

A funeral will be at a time and place yet to be announced.

Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
