William Bennett Bunn III
Sept. 12, 1938 - Sept. 1, 2000

William Bennett Bunn III of Longmont died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 61.

The son of William Bennett and Catherine Connelly Bunn, he was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He married Jo Marie Irwin on July 26, 1958, in Lafayette, Ga.

Mr. Bunn was a senior engineer with IBM for 41 years in Atlanta, Lexington, Ky., Tucson, Ariz., and Boulder.

He was a Boy Scout leader in Georgia and Colorado. He served on an adoption board in Tucson. He helped build the Boulder Heights Volunteer Fire Department and was a founding member of the Boulder IBM Credit Union.

Lately, Mr. Bunn educated others about prostate cancer through his work with support groups and with the Longmont Times Call to tell of his struggle and bring awareness to the public.

He moved to Boulder from Lexington in 1965, relocated to Tucson and then moved back to Boulder in 1992.

Survivors include his wife; his father; two sons, William Carey Bunn of Longmont and Christopher Bunn of Lyons; and two sisters, Joanna George of San Diego and Alice Hill of Chevy Chase, Md.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont.

George Gavenia
Oct. 18, 1925 - June 5, 2000

George Gavenia of Longmont died Monday, June 5, 2000, in Longmont. He was 74.

Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Jurbarkas, Lithuania, he was the son of George Gavenia and Elizabeth Orentas Gavenia. He married M. Lilly Vendelis on Dec. 26, 1954, in Chicago.

He moved to Boulder in 1967 from Chicago, then moved to Wisconsin in 1979 and returned to Longmont in 1993.

Mr. Gavenia worked for Ona Drapery as a manager from 1967 to 1979 and was self-employed in the drapery business in Wisconsin.

He belonged to Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Boulder and Dekorra Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a daughter, Audra Harders of Longmont; two sisters, Mary Krafft and Ema Gavenia, both of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 1680 Balsam Ave., Boulder, with burial at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 E. 20th St., Boulder.

Clarence Wentz
Sept. 12, 1903 - June 6, 2000

Clarence Wentz of Boulder died Tuesday, June 6, 2000. He was 96.

He was born Sept. 12, 1903, to Josph F. Wentz and Doris Fulriede Wentz. He married Margaret McKay on June 23, 1928, in Chicago. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. He moved to Denver in 1936 from Minneapolis and to Boulder in 1990.

He enjoyed the beach, playing golf and football.

Survivors include his sister Helen Williams of Bloomington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 2121 11th St., Boulder. Graveside services will be held in Minnesota.

Contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor and Dominican Sisters of the Sick and Poor, in care of Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Henry Clay 'Red' Locklar Jr.
Jan. 23, 1915 - Jan. 6, 2001

Henry Clay "Red" Locklar Jr. of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Boulder, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. He was 85.

The son of Henry C. Locklar Sr. and Eula E. Butler Locklar, he was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Camden, Ark. He married Addie Allene Kerr Locklar. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Locklar graduated Phi Beta Kappa of the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He later earned his master's degree in engineering.

He worked at the Bluegrass Army Signal Depot during World War II and later at WLAP radio. Mr. Locklar worked as a research engineer with IBM in Lexington, Ky., and Boulder, and held several patents. He retired from IBM in Boulder in 1980 and lived in the city until 1999.

Mr. Locklar enjoyed flying.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda K. Weeter of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Henry C. Locklar III of Lexington; a sister, Lillie M. Gilleland of Page, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be today in Lexington.

W.R. Milward Funeral Directors of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

Janet Marilyn McKee
Aug. 29, 1933 - Jan. 6, 2001

Janet Marilyn McKee of Boulder died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Louisville. She was 67.

Born Aug. 29, 1933, in Gordon, Neb., she was the daughter of Ross D. Rash and Vera Cooper Rash. She married Richard J. McKee on April 12, 1955, in Gordon.

She earned a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Nebraska.

A resident of Boulder since 1966, Mrs. McKee was an organist at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a piano teacher.

Mrs. McKee was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter CZ, was an Eco Cycle block leader and librarian for Boulder County Parks and Recreation, a volunteer naturalist and a volunteer at Mesa School.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; three sons, James K. McKee of Mountain View, Calif., Brian R. McKee of Tucson, Ariz., and David A. McKee of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Glynis A. McKee of Boulder; a brother, Ross Rash of Udall, Kan.; a sister, Louis Hinton of Gordon; and a granddaughter.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Boulder. Jim Luallen of the church will officiate.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, CO 80303, or to the Nature Conservancy, 1881 Ninth St., Boulder, CO 80302.

John F. Kelsey
Aug. 15, 1920 - Aug. 26, 2000

John F. Kelsey of Boulder County died at home Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. He was 80.

He was born Aug. 15, 1920, to John N. and Edna Lybarger Kelsey in Boulder. On Sept. 29, 1954, he married Edith M. Dean in Denver.

Mr. Kelsey spent his life farming in Boulder County except when he served in World War II. He was with the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.

He graduated from Louisville High School in 1939.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter, Debra M. Kelsey George of Louisville; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Avalon Funeral Home with Daryl Meyers as officiating minister.

Interment will follow at Louisville Cemetery.

Barry E. Lowe
April 27, 1950 - Aug. 25, 2000

Barry E. Lowe of Boulder died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 50.

The son of Lloyd J. Lowe and Dorothy Kyle Lowe, he was born on April 27, 1950, in Chicago. He married Peggy Klecker on Aug. 3, 1974, at the chapel on the Rock at St. Malo near Estes Park.

He lived in Boulder for the last 13 years and previously lived in New Jersey and California.

Mr. Lowe was the former president of Blvd. Manufacturing, a Boulder company producing in-line skate wheels and bearings. He also worked at CCM of Canada as a national sales manager, Kryptonics of Boulder as a sales manager and with Allied Signal of Morristown, N.J.

He attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church of Boulder. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry-biology.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter, Jennifer Julianna Lowe of Boulder; his parents; two brothers, Lloyd Lowe of Lake Villa, Ill., and Kent Lowe of Merrionette, Ill.; and a sister, Brenda Dziallo of Merrionette.

A rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Donald Higgins of the church officiating.

Russell L. 'Russ' Peate
Oct. 11, 1932 - Aug. 26, 2000

Russell L. "Russ" Peate of Niwot died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at the Hospice of Boulder County following a long illness. He was 67.

He was born Oct. 11, 1932, in Canon City to Leroy R. and Mayme Ray Peate. He married Inge McVehil on June 26, 1979, in Longmont.

Mr. Peate served 32 years with United Airlines and retired as a captain in 1992.

He grew up in Wolcott, graduated from East High School in Denver and earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University.

Survivors include his wife of Niwot; a son, William Peate of Houston; a daughter, Nancy Peate of Portland, Ore.; two stepsons, Jeffrey McVehil of Denver and Douglas McVehil of Westbury, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Debra Haakenson of Longmont; a brother, Laurence Peate of Fort Worth, Texas; a grandchild and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Howe Mortuary in Longmont, with the Rev. Allen Elder officiating. Private inurnment services will be held at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley or Hospice of Boulder County in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.

Gerald M. 'Jerry' Evans
March 6, 1922 - Sept. 14, 2000

Gerald M. "Jerry" Evans of Boulder died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 78.

The son of Hubert D. Evans and Myrtle E. Swanson Evans, he was born March 6, 1922, in Long Beach, Calif. He married Mabel D. Johnson on Oct. 18, 1947, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He graduated from the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1958.

Mr. Evans spent his career as a funeral director, working for a number of different firms in South Dakota, Arizona and Golden. He worked at Howe Mortuary in Boulder from 1972 to 1990, and Howe Mortuary in Longmont from 1993 to 1997.

He moved to Boulder in 1972 from Golden and spent several years traveling between a winter home in Meas, Ariz., and a winter home in Boulder.

Mr. Evans was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder, and a member of BPOE No. 2656 in East Mesa, Ariz. He was a former member of Moose Lodge No.1548 in Longmont and Elks Lodge No. 566 in Boulder.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; three sons, William J. Evans and Robert A. Evans, both of Longmont, and Terry E. Evans of Loveland; sister, Gwendolyn Bryan of Palmer Lake; nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Evans.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon today at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, and one hour before the services on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder. The Revs. Mark Twietmeyer and Vera Guebert-Steward will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boulder Dialysis Center or Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.
