Charles E. Vitt Jr.
Oct. 15, 1954 - June 14, 2000

Charles E. Vitt Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C., formerly of Boulder, died June 14, 2000, at home. He was 45.

The son of Charles E. Vitt Sr. and Mary Ann Schlager Vitt, he was born Oct. 15, 1954, in Boulder. He married Karen Vitt of Pinedale, Wyo., in 1990. They divorced.

Mr. Vitt was a truck driver for Adams Trucking. He spent the last four years in Jacksonville.

He went to Ponca Military Academy in Grove, Okla.

He attended Calvary Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Diane Vitt, of Pinedale; his mother, Mary Ann Schlager Whitlock of Boulder; his ex-wife; two sons, Anthony J. Vitt and Zachary S. Vitt, both of Pinedale; four brothers, Ervin A. Vitt II of Delta, Peter W. Vitt and John F. Vitt, both of Jacksonville and Martin B. Vitt of Broomfield; and two sisters, Suzan Hall of Broomfield and Cynthia Richards of Boulder

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Boulder First Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Jay Road.

Crist Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leah Lavina Andrus
Dec. 2, 1911 - July 6, 2000

Leah Lavina Andrus of Boulder died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Boulder. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Boulder to Frank Morton Goddard and Mabel Laughlin Goddard. She married James Ernest Andrus in Boulder in 1927. He died in 1973.

Mrs. Andrus was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Unity Church of Boulder. She enjoyed singing in the choir, painting, sewing and cooking.

Survivors include three sons, Jim Andrus of Boulder, Marv Andrus of Lafayette and Dave Andrus of Louisville; two daughters, Carol Mink of Johnstown and Marguerite Matthews of Dacono; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three children.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.

Memorial donations may be made to the Unity Church of Boulder, c/o Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

James Cody Bish Sr.
June 9, 1936 - July 6, 2000

James Cody Bish Sr. of Longmont, formerly of Boulder, died of cancer Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his home. He was 64.

He was born June 9, 1936, in Ward to James E. Bish and Regina Higbee Bish. He married Charlene Borra in Boulder on Nov. 13, 1954.

Mr. Bish worked for 20 years with the city of Boulder Street Department. For seven years, he owned and operated Colorado Pawnbrokers in Longmont. In June 2000, he retired from the city of Longmont, where he worked 18 years with fleet services. He was also a commercial driver's license examiner.

He attended Sacred Heart School in Boulder and graduated from Boulder High School. He moved from Boulder to Longmont in 1975.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his mother of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his wife of Longmont; a son, James Bish Jr. of Longmont; a daughter, Colleen Bish Bryan of Longmont; a brother, Jerry Bish of Iowa; a sister, Regina Chase of Arizona; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 336 Emery St., Longmont, with the Rev. Brian Morrow as celebrant. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Boulder County, c/o Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.

Rosalind Gould
Nov. 17, 1915 - July 7, 2000

Rosalind Gould of Boulder died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Boulder. She was 84.

She was born Nov. 17, 1915, in New York, N.Y., to Samuel Reznick and Rachel Bleier Reznick. She married Michael H. Gould on June 20, 1940, in New York City. He died May 1, 1971.

She moved to Boulder from New York in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Gould of Boulder and Patricia Sears of Alpharetta, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Congregation Har HaShem, 3950 Baseline Road, Boulder. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saddlebrook, N.J.

Donations may be made to Congregation Har HaShem or Hospice of Boulder County, c/o Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Mary McDermott Shideler
June 17, 1917 - June 28, 2000

Mary McDermott Shideler of Boulder Heights died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at her home. She was 83.

She was born June 17, 1917, in Topeka, Kan., to George T. McDermott and Katharine Stewart McDermott. She married Emerson W. Shideler in June 1940 in Chicago. They were divorced.

Mrs. Shideler was an independent scholar and the author of 13 books, including "A Creed for a Christian Skeptic," and more than 50 articles, most of them published in theological journals. She received an honorary doctorate in divinity from the Chicago Theological Seminary, where she had done post-graduate work, and the "Aslan" award for mythopoeic scholarship from the Mythopoeic Society. She had been president of the American Theological Society's Midwest Division and of the Society for Descriptive Psychology.

She graduated from Swarthmore College in 1938 with honors. She moved to Boulder around 1970.

She was a member of the Boulder Friends Meeting, St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder and the Authors Guild.

Survivors include her sister, Jane M. Hergenreter of Topeka.

A memorial service, following the donation of her body to the Anatomical Board of the state of Colorado, will be at noon July 17 at her residence, 668 Sky Trail Road, Boulder Heights.

Memorial gifts may be made to an organization of the donor's choice or to the Island Wildlife Shelter at the Bloedel Reserve, 7501 NE Dolphin Drive, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Fredrick Klingler Platts
Nov. 27, 1922 - June 8, 2000

Fredrick Klingler Platts of Aurora, formerly of Boulder, died in Boulder on Thursday, June 8, 2000. He was 77.

He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Boulder to Harlow Case Platts and Marion Klingler Platts. He married Jeane Spacht in Denver on Sept. 2, 1944. She died 18 days later. He later was married and divorced several times.

Mr. Platts worked at the family business, Western States Cutlery Co., while he attended the University of Colorado College of Engineering and Applied Science for two years. He received a bachelor's degree in business from Denver University in 1947.

After graduation, he managed the Fox Nicholson photo studio in Denver. He later worked as a statistician for the Colorado highway department, office manager and stock market analyst for Investments Inc. of Denver, hotel supervisor for Hub and Holden Hotels of Denver, advertising manager and publications editor for National Camera Repair School of Englewood, counselor for the Colorado Employment Service, and counselor for Englewood Employment Service.

In 1964 he was appointed general manager for the city of Louisville.

He worked at Denver Brick for 10 years and retired in the 1980s in Aurora.

He enjoyed photography and chess.

Survivors include a son, William C. Cody of San Francisco; a brother, Robert Platts of Longmont; and a nephew, William Platts of Boulder.

Services were held.

Crist Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Marvin Bruce Dayhoff
Oct. 5, 1947 - June 26, 2000

Marvin Bruce Dayhoff of Boulder died of natural causes on Monday, June 26, 2000 in Boulder. He was 52.

He was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Boulder to Marvin Dayhoff and Mildred Elaine Bostwick Dayhoff.

He worked on the assembly line for Head Ski.

He graduated from Fairview High School in 1965. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Boulder.

Survivors include a sister, Joan Kling of Denver; and two uncles, Hubert Dayhoff of Louisville and Carl Bostwick of Bellingham, Wash.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder, with the Rev. Duane Roll officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, c/o Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Brent Ewing
Jan. 9, 1951 - July 7, 2000

Brent Ewing of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Boulder and Brazil, Ind., died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Little Rock. He was 49.

The son of Bill and Helen Ewing, he was born Jan. 9, 1951, in Brazil, Ind.

A 1969 graduate of Brazil High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Indiana State University. He completed postgraduate work at Ohio State University and the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated from the Rolf Institute in Boulder.

Survivors include his mother of Brazil; his father of Florida; a sister, Sharon McCatty of Clarkston, Mich.; a brother, Kent Ewing of Brazil; and his fiancee, Patricia Bryles of Little Rock.

A memorial service will be held and a rosary said in Little Rock. A Mass of Resurrection will be held in Brazil.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Annunciation Catholic Church, 19 N. Alabama St., Brazil, IN 47834.

Mitzi Lehman
April 21, 1903 - July 8, 2000

Mitzi Lehman of Boulder died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Boulder Manor Nursing Care Center. She was 97.

The daughter of W. Zielbauer and Louisa Hajek Zielbauer, she was born April 21, 1903, in Vienna, Austria. She married Max Lehman on March 23, 1927, in New York. He preceded her in death.

She lived in Boulder for 17 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Louise Ufer of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Gloria Zann of Golden; a stepson, Arthur Lehman; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Golden West Senior Residence, Aspen Room Penthouse, 1055 Adams Circle, Boulder.

Crist Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Wilbert Wilson Light
Sept. 11, 1918 - June 5, 2000

Wilbert Wilson Light of Arvada, formerly of Boulder, died June 5, 2000, in Wheat Ridge. He was 81.

The son of Eddie L Light and Ida Mertz Light, he was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Grapevine, Texas. He married Beatrice I. Gindorf on Aug. 17, 1940, in Belleville, Texas. She preceded him in death.

He was a gasketing sales representative for more than 50 years, most recently for Industrial Gasket.

He graduated from Giddings High School and attended Business College in Houston.

Mr. Light served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Widowed Men and Women of America and King of Glory Lutheran Church and a former member of the Boulder Elks Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Nina Swanson of Marshfield, Wis., Valerie Wright of Atlanta and Deanna Light of Arvada; two sisters, Ida Bell Rauch of Carmine, Texas, and Mildred Otto of LaGrange, Texas.

Services were held.

Olinger Wadsworth Mortuary handled arrangements.
