Armenus Thomas
Aug. 6, 1929 - July 8, 2000

The Rev. Armenus Thomas of Wellington and formerly of Boulder died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at his home. He was 71.

He was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Union, S.C., to William Thomas and Ada Thomas Thomas. He married Mary McCree in 1953 in New York. They divorced.

He graduated from high school in Spartenburg, S.C., and from Front Range Community College in Westminster.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of God & Christ in Cheyenne, Wyo., and was ordained at the church in 1968.

The Rev. Thomas taught at Front Range Community College for more than 10 years. He enjoyed auto repair and was an avid Bible reader.

He lived in Boulder before moving to Wellington in 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Peter Thomas of Boulder and Bryan Thomas of Emporia, Kan.; a daughter, Sherry Duffy of Wellington; a brother, the Rev. William Thomas of France; three sisters, Margaret Stevenson of California, Gelola Thomas of New York, and Beatrice Oliver of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Reager Funeral Home, 1530 Riverside Ave., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Interment will be at Fort Logan Cemetery, Denver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rev. Armenus Thomas Memorial Scholarship fund in care of Reager Funeral Home.

Frank R. Dubiel
July 11, 1927 - July 13, 2000

Frank R. Dubiel of Boulder died Thursday, July 13, 2000. He was 73.

He was born July 11, 1927, in Springfield, Mass., to Frank Dubiel and Mary Schultz Dubiel.

He married Charlotte Shillow. She died in 1979. He later married Dottie Martell. She died in 1988.

He worked as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry in Long Island, N.Y. He moved to Boulder in 1989.

He was a member of the BPO Elks and the American Legion. He enjoyed golf.

Survivors include two sons, Russell of Boulder and Gary of Smithtown, N.Y.; two stepsons, Mike Martell of Alexandria, Va., and Jeff Martell of Coram, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Susan Punzelt of Paris, Ill.; brother, Donald of York, Pa.; and sister, Francis DeLauter of North Valley Stream, N.Y.

Services will be held in New York.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, 80303.

Crist Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Inez Kathryn White Fritze
March 6, 1903 - July 8, 2000

Inez Kathryn White Fritze of Boulder and formerly of Longmont died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Frasier Meadows Manor Health Care Center. She was 97.

She was born March 6, 1903, in Longmont to Willard J. White and Bertha McKinney White. She married William R. Fritze on March 29, 1931, in Chicago. He died in January 1981.

Mrs. Fritze's lifelong interest in music led her to sing with the Denver A Capella Choir in the 1930s. She taught music at Lafayette High School and later served as choir director in churches in Orville, Ohio, and Des Moines, Iowa.

She attended Rice Institute in Texas and graduated cum laude in 1925 from Lombard College in Galesburg, Ill., with a bachelor of arts degree. She was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and Phi Kappa Phi.

She was active in Girl Scouts for more than 25 years, serving as a troop leader, as president of the Moingona Girl Scout Council in Iowa and in the Mile High Girl Scout Council in Denver.

In 1969, she moved from Ohio to Golden West Senior Residence in Boulder. She was active on Residents Council and taught an exercise class, Sit and Be Fit.

She spent summers at the family's homestead in Nederland.

Survivors include two daughters, Justine C. Irwin of Nederland and Paula J. Marin of Chula Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Thayne Laird Irwin and Tomas Sabino Irwin.

In a service following cremation, the ashes will be interred at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the family grave site in Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont. The Rev. Terry Zimmerman, pastor of the First Christian Church in Boulder, will lead the service.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Golden West Foundation, 1055 Adams Circle, Boulder, CO 80303; the Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, CO 80303; or the Niehaus Scholarship Fund, c/o Ann Jonsen, Frasier Meadows Manor, 4950 Thunderbird Drive, Boulder, CO 80303.

Lewellen-Longmont Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

Pauline A. Gabriella
Aug. 10, 1925 - July 15, 2000

Pauline A. Gabriella of Boulder died of cancer Saturday, July 15, 2000, in Boulder. She was 74.

She was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Onaway, Mich., to Anthony Kwiatkoski and Florence Shea Kwiatkoski. She married Angelo Gabriella on Nov. 10, 1949, in Golden.

Mrs. Gabriella was a dental assistant, a rural mail carrier and a homemaker. She moved to Boulder from Michigan in 1947.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Boulder. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; a son, Bob Gabriella of Johnstown; a sister, Audrey Gariepy of Venice, Fla.; and four brothers, Gene Kwiatkoski of Cheboygan, Mich., Len Kwiatkoski of Broom's Island, Md., Ken Kwiatkoski of Boulder City, Nev., and Ralph Kwiatkoski of Gunnison.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kwiatkoski, and a daughter, Susan Kay.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Andreas K. Haberkorn
June 16, 1972 - July 12, 2000

Andreas K. Haberkorn of Boulder died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in a climbing accident on Longs Peak. He was 28.

He was born June 16, 1972, in Anderson, S.C., to Wilhelm Haberkorn and Susanne Neinhaus Haberkorn.

Mr. Haberkorn received a bachelor's degree from Clemson University. He lived in Boulder for three years, and he worked for Chipsea Nurseries in Broomfield.

He enjoyed climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking and ski patrol.

Survivors include his father and mother of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Nancy K. Haberkorn of Atlanta, Ga.; and a grandmother, Luise G. Neinhaus of Essen, Germany.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder.

Willard C. Hass
Feb. 1, 1921 - July 14, 2000

Willard C. Hass of Boulder died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Boulder. He was 79.

He was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Harry Hass and Louise Wohlers Hass. He married Doris E. Leman on June 22, 1947, in Long Island, N.Y.

Mr. Hass worked for Morganite Inc. in New York, was a manager at Coors Porcelain, and in the early 1970s established a Boulder business, Scientific Industries Inc., which distributes equipment to measure air pollution.

He served as a Navy pilot in World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in business and mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado in 1954.

He lived in Boulder from 1951 to 1954 and from 1961 to 2000.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a son, David Hass of Shawnee, Okla.; and a daughter, Julie Hass of Oslo, Norway.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Hass.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway, Boulder.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Vera Guebert-Steward officiating. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Rudolph Carl Paxton
Dec. 13, 1909 - July 14, 2000

Rudolph Carl Paxton of Louisville died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Boulder Manor. He was 90.

He was born to Charles Albert Paxton and Martina A. Carlson on Dec. 13, 1909, in Sharon Springs, Kan. He married Elizabeth Evanoff on July 23, 1946, in Arvada.

Mr. Paxton was a coal miner in Boulder County in the early 1940s and worked on a farm south of Boulder until 1943. He was a Teamster with Pacific Intermountain Express until retirement.

He enjoyed antiques and collectibles, particularly antique automobiles.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Carl E. Paxton of Boulder, John Paxton of Frederick and Doug Paxton of Louisville; two daughters, Judith Gallagher of Missoula, Mont., and Anne Woodring of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 200 South Boulder Road, Louisville. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Boulder.

Margaret Amaral
Oct. 16, 1908 - July 11, 2000

Margaret Amaral of Louisville died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Boulder. She was 91.

Born in Barhave, Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland, on Oct. 16, 1908, she was the daughter of Anthony Sheeran and Winifred Sheeran. She married Charles Amaral on May 1, 1930 in New York. He died in 1977.

She moved to South Dartmouth, Mass., in 1926. In 1929, she moved to Eltingville, N.Y., and to New Brighton, N.Y., in 1950. In 1953, she moved to Richmond, N.Y., and to Louisville in 1989.

In Ireland, she taught Gaelic at Sisters of Mercy Academy. She worked as a housekeeper and later a city custodial worker until she retired in 1976.

Mrs. Amaral enjoyed Irish music, mystery novels, walking, bird watching and traveling.

She was a member of the Louisville Senior Citizens Association, a former longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians on the North Shore of Staten Island, and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Gaelic League in Manhattan.

Survivors include one son, Charles Patrick of Louisville; two daughters, Margaret Oona Amaral and Mary Anne Amaral of Staten Island, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass was held Monday.

Lester Lee Brown
Aug. 30, 1914 - July 16, 2000

Lester Lee Brown of Longmont died Sunday, July 16, 2000. He was 85.

Born Aug. 10, 1914, in Cope, Colo., he was the son of Everett and Bessie Henry Brown. He married Virginia Helen Murray in Colorado Springs in 1973.

A graduated of Boulder Preparatory School, he moved from Littleton to Longmont in 1970.

Mr. Brown owned and operated a sheet metal shop in Boulder before going to work at Rocky Flats from 1973 to 1989. He later reopened his sheet metal shop.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring vintage cars and roller dancing.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; daughter, Pat Moon of Littleton; sister, Velma Louise Ellingson of Banning, Calif.; and one granddaughter.

No services were held.

Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont is handling the arrangements.
