Sadie M. McKee
Oct. 31, 1908 - Aug. 21, 2000

Sadie M. McKee of Boulder died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000. She was 91.

Born Oct. 31, 1908, in Aiken, S.C., she was the daughter of William H. McKee and Lillie Rutledge McKee.

She was a dietitian for the U.S. government for 25 years. She moved to Longmont around 1930, then to Louisville and later Aurora. She moved to Boulder 31 years ago.

She was a longtime member of Southern Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Helart of Boulder; two nephews; and three nephews.

Private family services will be held.

Howe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Carroll Shipley Jr.
April 22, 1951 - June 3, 2000

Elmer Carroll Shipley Jr. of Boulder died June 3, 2000, at Terrace Heights Care Center Boulder. He was 49.

Born April 22, 1951, in Washington, D.C, he was the son of Elmer C. Shipley Sr. and Ethel M. Miller Shipley. He married Patricia E. Doory. She died in 1976.

He moved to Boulder in 1980 from Hagerstown, Md.

Mr. Shipley was a self-employed woodworker and owned Shipley's Rockers.

He served in the Navy and was a member of the American Legion of Hagerstown.

Survivors include a daughter, Angel Marie Shipley of Boulder; a stepson, John Parrish of Baltimore; and four stepdaughters, Margaret Kerns, Trisha Tate, Susan Fuse, Debbie Parrish, all of Baltimore.

Private family memorial services will be held.

Robert J. Dixon
Sept. 10, 1924 - Aug. 21, 2000

Robert J. Dixon of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Boulder, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000. He was 75.

The son of John Dixon and Anita Southgate Dixon, he was born Sept. 10, 1924, in New York. He married Jeanne Scott. She died in 1980. He later married Rita Kimball.

Mr. Dixon served in the South Pacific in World War II. He worked for Bell Laboratories for 32 years, retiring in 1982.

Survivors include his wife of Surprise; his mother of Lima, Penn.; two sons, Scott Dixon of Boulder and Rick Dixon of Westminster; two stepsons, Lloyd Kimball of Colorado and Eric Kimball of Silverthorne; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Caldwell of California; and a sister, Mary Ann Crook of Queens, N.Y.

No services are planned.

Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel of Sun City West, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.

Richard 'Dick' Lymon Gilbert
Aug. 10, 1938 - Aug. 1, 2000

Richard "Dick" Lymon Gilbert of Moab, Utah, formerly of Boulder, died of a heart attack Aug. 1, 2000, at home. He was 61.

The son of George Gilbert and Nellie Hammond Gilbert, he was born Aug. 10, 1938, in Sayre, Pa. He married Diana Fairchild in 1965. They divorced.

Mr. Gilbert graduated from the University of Missouri where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He worked for IBM for 31 years, winning a Second Level Invention Award and serving as a third level manager. He lived in Boulder from 1976 to 1984.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Boggs of Columbus, Ohio, and Catherine Burdine of Westminster; and a son Richard Scott Gilbert of Denver.

A daughter, Denise Roe, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Boulder Masonic Lodge, 2205 Broadway, Boulder.

Leonard 'Lenny' Burke Gray
July 10, 1962 - Aug. 20, 2000

Leonard "Lenny" Burke Gray of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. He was 38.

Born July 10, 1962, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of Gerald L. Gray Jr. and Ellen V. Sanders Gray.

Mr. Gray moved to Boulder in 1980 from Jacksonville, N.C. He volunteered for human services organizations, including the Salvation Army and the Boulder County AIDS project.

Survivors include his father of Jacksonville, Ill.; a brother, Gerald L. Gray of Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Beverly Smith of Chesapeake, Cheryl F. Malin of Jacksonville and Marie Fields of Bangor, Maine.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Services are private.

Contributions may be made to the Boulder County AIDS project, 2118 14th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Joan 'Jo' Leach
July 20, 1937 - Aug. 21, 2000

Joan "Jo" Leach of Winner, S.D., formerly of Boulder, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000. She was 63.

The daughter of Dwight Mackaman and Willie Aldridge Mackaman, she was born July 20, 1937, in Winner, S.D. She married Gary D. Leach on June 8, 1957, in Winner.

She taught elementary education for many years and worked in administration for the Boulder Valley School District.

Mrs. Leach lived in Lincoln, Neb., Evansville, Ill., Quincy, Ill., Decatur, Ill., and Boulder. She moved to Winner in 1995.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Winner, P.E.O., E.C.W. and Tripp County Historical Society.

Mrs. Leach enjoyed playing bridge, bowling and volunteering for her church.

Survivors include her husband of Winner; two sons, James Leach of Firestone and Thomas Leach of Westminster; and four grandchildren.

Services will be held today in Winner.

Elnora H. LeValley
Aug. 6, 1908 - Aug. 20, 2000

Elnora H. LeValley of Wheat Ridge, formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. She was 92.

Born Aug. 6, 1908, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles Keyes and Ella Andrews Keyes. She married William J. LeValley on June 21, 1930, in Boulder.

Mrs. LeValley worked as a secretary at Coors Brewing Co.

She moved to Boulder in 1913 from Iowa. In 1965, she moved to Wheat Ridge.

She enjoyed reading and flowers.

Survivors include five generations of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Clear Creek Valley Baptist Church, 10555 W. 44th St., Wheat Ridge.

Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Green Mountain Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Clear Creek Valley Baptist Church.

Walter I. Steele
May 16, 1909 - Aug. 20, 2000

Walter I. Steele of Longmont died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Boulder. He was 91.

The son of Alvin H. Steele and Mary A. McGuire Steele, he was born May 16, 1909, in Herrick, S.D. He married Maybelle Rose Haag in 1930 in Clearfield, S.D.

Mr. Steele owned and operated Steeles Market for 22 years, before retiring in 1972.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Boulder Rollers and Good Samaritan Travel Organization.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; eight daughters, Joyce K. Mayes of Loveland, Darlene C. Huddle of Millborough, S.D., Mary Ellen Lynass of Pierre, S.D., Shirley A. Flynn of Winter, S.D., Carol L. Fernandez of Johnstown, Arla M. Stark of Birmingham, Ala., Margo E. Rosser of Westminster and Maureen J. Williams of Elizabeth; five sons, Thomas J. Steele and Charles D. Steele, both of Boulder, Alan H. Steele of Lafayette, Douglas W. Steele of Bozeman, Mont., and Bradley G. Steele of Berthoud; a brother, Alvin Steele of Greeley; 56 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Darrell Howe Mortuary Chapel, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder.

Contributions may be made to St. Boniface Chapel in care of Glen and Darlene Huddle, Millboro, S.D. 57580.

Alfred 'Al' Stanley Taraska
March 17, 1927 - Aug. 20, 2000

Alfred "Al" Stanley Taraska of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000. He was 73.

He was born March 17, 1927, in Chicago to Jozef Taraszkaand Jozefa Stawosz Taraszka. He married Therese F. Swieca on Nov. 17, 1951, in Chicago.

He retired in 1992 as a courier for a Chicago bank and formerly was a photo-engraver for various publications.

Mr. Taraska moved to Boulder in 1992 from Chicago.

He was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 111 of Louisville. He served in the Medical Corps of the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter, Cynthia A. Taraska of Boulder; a sister, Mary Gratkowski of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Eugene Gratkowski will officiate. Services will conclude at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, 6739 South Boulder Road. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post No. 111.
