Daniel Aaron Hale
Oct. 11, 1960 - July 17, 2000

Daniel Aaron Hale of Sun City, Calif., and formerly of Boulder died Monday, July 17, 2000, in Sun City. He was 39.

He was born Oct. 11, 1960, in Alexandria, Va., to Harold Dean Hale and Kathryn Bradley Hale. He married Maryan Narag in 1970 in Long Beach, Calif.

Mr. Hale lived in Boulder from 1965 to 1984.

Survivors include his wife of Long Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Morgan Hale of Long Beach; a son, Daniel Hale Jr. of Colorado Springs; his parents of Anchor Point, Alaska; and two brothers, Brian Hale of Oceanside, Calif., and David Hale of Pinecliff.

Services were held in Temecula, Calif.

Betty R. Klag
Nov. 5, 1922 - Aug. 24, 2000

Betty R. Klag of Berthoud, formerly of Boulder and Longmont, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 77.

The daughter of John G. Arnett and Ola Dishman Arnett, she was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Huntington, W.Va. She married Carl E. Klag on May 21, 1945, in San Francisco. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Klag was a registered nurse and worked as a private duty nurse and at the Foothills Care Center in Longmont. She moved from Toledo, Ohio, to Boulder in 1952, to Longmont in 1982 and to Berthoud in 1992.

She enjoyed reading, bird-watching and fishing.

Survivors include five sons, John Klag of West Glacier, Mont., James Klag of Berthoud, Paul Klag of Boulder, Mark Klag of Longmont and Terry Klag of Atkins, Ark.; four daughters, Joanne Adler of Longmont, Pat Nahlan of Atkins, Janet Mantz of Longmont and Linda McKevitt of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Klag, and a son, Michael Klag.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder. Inurnment will be at Mountain View. The Rev. Allen Elder will officiate.

Ahlberg Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

David Rodriguez
July 1, 1960 - Aug. 24, 2000

David Rodriguez of Lafayette died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, of a terminal illness at Terrace Heights Care Center in Boulder. He was 40.

He was born July 1, 1960, in Odonell, Texas, to Julio Rodriguez and Sara Hernandez Rodriguez. He married Hazel Cardinas in 1976. They were divorced in 1977. He married Loraine Valdez in 1980. They were divorced in 1990. He married Loretta Cineros in Lafayette in 1991.

Mr. Rodriguez was a former employee of High Plains Landscaping. He etched mirrors and made jewelry.

He moved to Lafayette in 1970.

Survivors include his wife and parents, all of Lafayette; three sons, Jason Rodriguez of Erie and Joseph Rodriguez and David Rodriguez, both of Longmont; three daughters, Sara Rodriguez and Vinessa Rodriguez, both of Longmont, and Shastina Cardinas of Greeley; two brothers, Dogoberto Rodriguez and Julio Rodriguez Jr., both of Lafayette; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Avel Rodriguez, George Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Avalon Chapel, 1320 Centaur Village Drive.

Robert J. Butterfield
Nov. 11, 1920 - Aug. 26, 2000

Robert J. Butterfield of Walsenberg, formerly of Longmont and Broomfield, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at the Huerfano Medical Center in Walsenburg. He was 79.

The son of George J. Butterfield and Charlotte McDonald Butterfield, he was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Princeton, Minn. He married Fern D. Blankenbeckler on Oct. 9, 1948, in Longmont. She died in 1984.

Mr. Butterfield worked in the railroad industry throughout his career, retiring in 1980 from the Rio Grande Railroad.

He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 and was wounded in Italy.

He moved to Denver, then to Longmont in 1947, to Broomfield in 1962, to Federal Heights in 1969 and to Walsenburg in 1997.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the American Legion Post No. 32 in Longmont and past commander of the VFW Federal Heights Post No. 10736.

Survivors include a son, Allen Richardson of Puyallup, Wash.; a daughter, Joyce Shaffer of Sagle, Idaho; a brother, Russell K. Butterfield of Challis, Idaho; two sisters, Valeria McCahan of Minot, N.D., and Laura Schultz of Bismarck, N.D.; four grandchildren; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary chapel. The Rev. Robert Early of the Holiday Community Church in Denver will officiate. Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.

Virgil William Halderman
Jan. 21, 1917 - Aug. 27, 2000

Virgil William Halderman of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000. He was 83.

Born Jan. 21, 1917, in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of Edgar Halderman and May Bell Osborn Halderman. He married Ramona J. Dalenberg on Sept. 22, 1944, in San Francisco.

Mr. Halderman served in the Marines during World War II. He was a tool and die maker.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and First Assembly of God Church in Lakeland, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; two daughters, Linda Pritchard of Mulberry, Fla., and Rita Lochner of Boulder; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Carole M. Smith, preceded him in death.

Services will be held Friday in Buchanan, Mich.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder, CO 80303.

Elizabeth E. 'Nell' Holley
May 2, 1908 - Aug. 23, 2000

Elizabeth E. 'Nell' Holley of Boulder died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. She was 92.

The daughter of Thomas F. Gaffney and Anne Mullin Gaffney, she was born May 2, 1908, in Lyndhurst, N.J. She married Arthur J. Holley on April 6, 1942, in Great Bend, Pa. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Holley was a credit investigator. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Alter & Rosary Society.

Survivors include two nephews, R. Terrance Ross of Wilson, Wyo., and Thomas R. Ross of Boulder.

No services are planned.

Contributions may be made in her name to Boulder Community Hospital, Home Health Care, P.O. Box 9019, Boulder, CO 80301-9019.

John Christopher 'Tripper' Johnson
Dec. 29, 1964 - Aug. 27, 2000

John Christopher "Tripper" Johnson of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Glenwood Springs, after suffering complications during an asthma attack. He was 35.

Born Dec. 29, 1964, in Lafayette, La., he was the son of Dr. Paxton E. Johnson and Jackie A. Breaux Johnson.

He graduated from Edward Douglas White Catholic High School, in Thibodaux, La., in 1982. He received an undergraduate degree in philosophy and religion from the University of Colorado in 1994.

Mr. Johnson lived and worked in the Boulder area for 15 years. He most recently worked as a computer network administrator for Worldprints.com.

Survivors include his parents of Nederland; his maternal grandmother, Velma Begnaud of Lafayette, La.; seven brothers, Paxton E. Johnson II of Nederland, Michael G. Johnson of Broomfield, Daniel J. Johnson of Redding, Calif., Edward P. Johnson of Lafayette, Paul F. J. Johnson of Round Rock, Texas, Mark N. V. Johnson of Louisville and Charles C. Johnson of Norfolk, Va.; and three sisters, Mary G. T. Dalton of Lafayette, Virginia M. Johnson of South Bend, Ind., and Germaine M. Tillotson of Fort Collins.

A Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis Catholic Church, 902 Grant Ave., Louisville.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church .

Mary Mora
Dec. 7, 1921 - Aug. 26, 2000

Mary Mora of Boulder died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. She was 78.

Born Dec. 7, 1921, in Walsenberg, she was the daughter of Fiberto Lopez and Margureta Guillen Lopez. She married Domingo T. Mora in 1942 in Ogallala, Neb. He preceded her in death.

A homemaker, she moved to Boulder in 1999 from Sacramento, Calif. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking.

Survivors include three daughters, Carmelita Martinez of Oxnard, Calif., Veronica Labres of Boulder and Theresa Flowers of Black Hawk; a son, Bernard Mora of Denver; 11 grandchildren; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Lopez; and a sister, Ann Gallegos.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Boulder. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in her name to Terrace Heights in care of Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Josefina 'Josie' Vilar
March 19, 1956 - Aug. 27, 2000

Josefina "Josie" Vilar of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at home. She was 44.

Born March 19, 1956, in Cuba, she was the daughter of Manuel Vilar and Hilda Murias Vilar.

Ms. Vilar earned an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in 1978 and graduate degrees from Boston College in 1980 and the University of Colorado.

She moved to Boulder in 1980.

She worked as a software engineer at Cisco Systems since 1997. She previously worked at Neodata/Centrobe and Silverplume.

She enjoyed traveling, skiing and hiking.

Survivors included two sisters, Nancy Ortiz and Lydia Vilar-Reynolds, both of Miami.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Flagstaff Amphitheater in Boulder.
