Ruth Specht
March 10, 1901 - Sept. 28, 2000

Ruth Specht of Denver died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000. She was 99.

Born on March 10, 1901, in Salina, she was the daughter of Charles Anderson and Johanna Nilson Anderson. She married Paul Moynihan on June 20, 1923. He died on Sept. 19, 1930. She married Robert J. Specht on Aug. 31, 1934, in Boulder. He died on June 3, 1978.

She attended Mapleton Elementary School and Barnes Business College in Denver where she received a bookkeeping certificate.

Mrs. Specht was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Alter and Rosary Society, the Rose Society of Boulder and the Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Margaret Kauffmann of Denver and Roberta "Bobbi" Richards of Boulder; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, three brothers and a great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of Hope, in care of Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

Mary Elizabeth Ely
March 16, 1910 - Sept. 30, 2000

Mary Elizabeth Ely of Boulder died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000. She was 90.

Born March 16, 1910, in Edina, Mo., she was the daughter of Lucy and James L. Cornelius. She married Howard Ely in 1933 in Edina. He died in 1965.

She lived in northeast Missouri for three years, northeast Iowa for 16 years and Paris, Mo., for 12 years. Following her husband's death, she lived in southeast Minnesota for 31 years before moving to Boulder in 1996.

Mrs. Ely graduated from Edina High School in 1927 and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Ill. and Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo.

Mrs. Ely was employed for 11 years as a resident adviser by the University of Minnesota at Waseca. She was an active member of the Methodist church in Waverly, Iowa, and Paris, Mo. She was a pianist, gardener and enjoyed playing bridge and needlepointing.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Ely of Paris, Mo.; two daughters, Joanna Thorpe of Boulder and Nancy Cornish of Brandon, Manitoba; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Her body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. There will be no funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The Salvation Army, Intermountain Division, Planned Giving Department, 1370 Pennsylvania St., Denver, Colo. 80203; or the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 9010, Boulder, Colo., 80301-9019.

Howe Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Virginia H. Horras
July 12, 1908 - Sept. 30, 2000

Virginia H. Horras of Boulder died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000. She was 92.

Born on July 12, 1908, in Hayti, Mo., she was the daughter of Robert Hillard and Florence Thrower Hillard. She married George D. Horras, Jr. on July 12, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla. They moved to Boulder from Kansas City, Mo. in 1951. He died on Jan. 2, 1983.

Ms. Horras was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist church since 1951 and enjoyed bridge.

Survivors include her daughter, Sara Lee of Niwot; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Robbie Cunningham and Mary Triplett.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Green Mountain Cemetery.

Bernard Edward Montoya
Oct. 21, 1932 -Sept. 28, 2000

Bernard Edward Montoya of Thornton, formerly of Lafayette, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000. He was 67.

The son of Joseph Montoya Sr. and Lucy Chavez Montoya, he was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Lafayette. He graduated from Lafayette High School.

He worked as a machine operator for the U.S. government and served in the Navy on a destroyer in World War II.

Survivors include his loving friend Claudean Bond of Thornton; two sisters, Delores Hurd of Arvada and Evelyn Sleppy of Redwood, Calif.; and two brothers, Joseph Montoya and James Montoya, both of Denver.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Avalon Funeral Home Chapel, 1320 Centaur Village Drive. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 E. Simpson, Lafayette.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Ruth Ann Hagaman

April 20, 1949 - Sept. 30, 2000

Ruth Ann Hagaman died at her home in Longmont on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, after a long illness. She was 51.

A Boulder native, she was born April 20, 1949, to Bert Seltmann and Edna Allan Seltmann. She was raised in Boulder, moved to Sheridan, Wyo., in 1973 and then moved to Longmont in October 1989. She married Gene Hagaman in 1973. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hagaman was a cashier at several Longmont stores but primarily was a homemaker. She enjoyed the casinos at Black Hawk-Central City, yard sales and shopping. She was an active Seventh-day Adventist.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Shannon of Longmont, Allan Dale Hepler of Grand Junction and Ford Eugene Hagaman of Hannibal, Mo.; two daughters, Diamond Jean Williams of Longmont and Tonya Lorie Hagaman of Erie; four brothers, Eldon Lee Seltmann of San Pablo, Calif., Donald Seltmann of Boulder, Harvey Seltmann and Howard Seltmann, both of Longmont; three sisters, Mary Lou Rainsbarger of Weimar, Calif., Carol Mae Lucero of Dacono and Betty Fern St. Clair of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. Entombment will be held after the service at the columbarium at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Gideon Haas of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate.

Instead of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Boulder County-Longmont Branch, in care of the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.

Eva H. Milner Busch
Feb. 16, 1902 - Sept. 30, 2000

Eva H. Milner Busch of Milton, Mass., formerly of Boulder, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Milton. She was 98.

Born Feb. 16, 1902, in Florence, she was the daughter of John A. Milner and Lucy Horrell Milner. She married Joseph B. Busch in 1936 in Greeley. He died in 1985.

After earning a degree from the Colorado Teachers College in Greeley and a master's degree from Columbia Teachers College, she worked as a teacher in the Weld County school system.

Mrs. Busch was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, served as a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed quilting.

She moved to Boulder in 1941 and to Milton in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Florence Busch Beaudry of Lincoln, Mass.; a son, Joseph B. Busch of New Zealand; and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Sampson and Florence Milner; and a brother, Maurice Milner.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 2121 11th St., Boulder.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1250 S. Hover Road, Suite F2, Longmont, CO 80501.

William 'Bill' Albert Danbom
Oct. 23, 1947 - Sept. 24, 2000

William "Bill" Albert Danbom of Westminster, formerly of Boulder, died Sept. 24, 2000. He was 52.

He was born Oct. 23, 1947, in Detroit to Carl Henry Danbom and Evangeline Marie Barrett Danbom.

He attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He worked at the Boulder Post Office for 20 years and lived in Boulder for a short time in the early 1980s.

Survivors include his two sisters, Sharon M. Hagen and Sally A. Olay, both of Troy, Mich.

A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rundus Funeral Home, 1998 W. 10th Ave., Broomfield. The Rev. Ron Cox will officiate.

Millard Harris Ashley
April 16, 1921 - Oct. 1, 2000

Millard Harris Ashley of Longmont died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Longmont. He was 79.

The son of Clint Ashley and Ollie Deathridge Ashley, he was born April 16, 1921, in Bakerville, Tenn. He married Victoria Antonian on Feb. 15, 1941, in Detroit.

He served in the Navy in the submarine division from 1943 to 1945.

Mr. Ashley worked as a mechanical engineer and pipefitter for 50 years and helped build nuclear power plants, missile plants and oil refineries in many states. He retired from Alberici Mechanical of St. Louis in 1987.

He moved to Longmont from Elk Grove, Calif., in 1992.

He was a member of the Mason Wolverine Lodge 484 where he attained the rank of 32nd Degree Mason participating as a Shriner and in the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Steamfitters Local 636 of Detroit.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, judo and shooting pool.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Patricia Thurston of Anderson, Ind., and Diane Ashley of Boulder; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morace Hayes Ashley and Arthur Ashley; and two sisters, Jewel Derbeque and Georgia Fuller.

No local services are planned.

Granville Franklin Mason
July 28, 1922 - Sept. 29, 2000

Granville Franklin Mason of Orem, Utah, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at home. He was 78.

He was born July 28, 1922, in Lafayette, the son of Robert Alexander Mason and Iris Irene Channel Mason. He married Marguerite Montemayor on Sept. 6, 1941, in Denver.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed acoustical contractor most of his life.

He enjoyed football, any Brigham Young University sports event and fishing. He was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his wife of Orem; two sons, Granville Franklin Mason Jr. of Provo, Utah, and Stanley Mason of Orem; two daughters, Beverly Carlson of Provo and Iris Monson, East Greenwich, R.I.; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, Jerry Stewart, Yvonne King, Maxine Dodds and Robert Mason.

Funeral services will be held today in Orem. Burial will be in Orem City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW District No. 4.
