Winifred A. “Winnie” Flora

A Memorial service will be held at a later date for former Lamar resident and former co-owner of Flora Rexall Drug, and currently of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado Winifred A. “Winnie” Flora.
Winnie was born June 26, 1915 at Claflin, Kansas to Fred Alvin and Ada (Wood) Adams, and passed away January 8, 2009 at Keefe Memorial Hospital at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
She is survived by her daughter Leigh (Bill) Maclay of Aurora, Colorado, son; Justin (Elaine) Flora of Denver, Colorado, grandchildren; Scott, Todd, and Eric. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and a nephew Al (Lynda) Adams of Tucson, Arizona.
Winnie is preceded in death by her husband; Leland D. Flora, grandson; Sean and a brother George Adams.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Peacock Family

Harold H. “Doc’ Falconburg

Harold Harrison ‘Doc’ Falconburg, 84, of Yuma, Colorado former long time resident of McClave, Colorado died on February 14, 2009 at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma, Colorado.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the McClave United Methodist Church with the Reverend Trevor Potter officiating at 10 AM. A graveside service with military honors followed at the Wiley, Colorado cemetery.
Born November 17, 1924 in Eads, Colorado to Ira Jefferson Falconburg and Carrie (Work) Falconburg. He graduated from Wiley High School in 1943 as salutatorian. During his high school years he was active in all sports and was member of the state championship basketball team. He was called to service in the U.S. Army in August 1943 and was discharged as a Sergeant in January 1946. He served 32 months in the army including 21 months in the Pacific with the 508th Anti-aircraft Weapons Battalion. He was awarded battle stars for New Guinea, Leyta, and Luzon.
He married Lillie Florence Kern on February 2, 1946, in Lamar, Colorado, who survives him along with children Harold James (Jim) Falconburg (Jan) of Yuma, Colorado, Peggy Harris (Gary) of Aurora, Colorado, Mick Falconburg (Cheryl) of Westminster, Colorado and Jeff Falconburg (Karen) of Windsor, Colorado: Grandchildren: Eric (Crystal) Falconburg, Hays Falconburg, Darin (Kim Falconburg, Chad Harris, Matthew Harris, Jennifer Falconburg, and Lauren Falconburg.
Great Grandchildren: Chakota, Alex, Leland, Jonathan, and Brenona. Also survived by brothers Lewis Falconburg of Wichita, Kansas, Donald Falconburg (Dorothy) of Vilas, Colorado and sister Virginia Brown of Canyon, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elmer Ray Falconburg, Ralph Henry Falconburg, Dick Falconburg, Helen Hollandsworth, Ira J. Falconburg, and Jack Falconburg. Also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and many more family members.
Harold lived all his life in southeast Colorado in the communities of McClave and Wiley. He moved to Yuma, Colorado in 2007. He was active in the McClave community from 1947 to 2007. He worked at the Brown Lumber Company in McClave from 1947 to 1952. In 1952 he went to work for the McClave State Bank where he eventually became President of the bank and retired in 1990. Over the years he was involved in various community activities including helping to organize the original McClave Booster Club, organizing the Hasty-McClave Water District, a staunch supporter of the McClave FFA chapter and all the McClave High School athletics. He also attended and was church treasurer for many years for the McClave United Methodist Church.
The joy of his life was his family. He looked forward to and enjoyed family reunions with the huge Falconburg family and he loved playing card games, especially cribbage.
Those wishing to do so may make memorials to McClave United Methodist Church.

Evelyn L. Wood

A Celebration of Life for longtime Prowers County resident, Evelyn L. Wood was held Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Peacock Family Chapel with Mike Caldwell of the Victory Life World Outreach officiating. Interment followed at the Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 1:00 PM until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born on November 20, 1916 at New Lyme, Ohio to Henry and Pauline (Heath) Swanson and passed away on March 21, 2009 at Prowers Medical Center in Lamar, CO at the age of 92.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Wood, Sr., her parents, and her sister; Dorothy Tenny.
She is survived by her sons; Robert J. Leroux of Lamar and Terry (Leslie) Leroux of Arizona and her step-daughter; Cynthia (Tom Kuhn) Wood of York, Pennsylvania, as well as her grandchildren, Kim Eikey of Wyoming, Duane Leroux of Lamar, and Starla Leroux of Pueblo. She is also survived by her ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home office.

Leslie Evans

Funeral services for lifelong Lamar resident, Leslie Evans were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Pastor Eric R. Seuerstein of the Springfield United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at the Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2008 from 1PM until 6PM at the Peacock Family Chapel.
Leslie was born October 2, 1916 at Lamar, Colorado to Elsworth C. and Cathriean K. (Keim) Evans and passed away at the age of 91 on June 11, 2008 at his home in Lamar with his family by his side.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Evans; his parents, a son Roger Dean Evans, and a sister Leona Tidd.
Leslie is survived by his children Priscilla (John) Sailors of Lamar, Terry (Holly) Evans of Springfield, and Cathy Farmer of Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tara (Greg) Eddy, Chad Sailors, Erick Farmer, Ashley Farmer, Lindsay (Leif) Pederson, Brianna Farmer, Kirk (Jenny) Evans, Ginger (Van) Walker, and Chanc (Connie) Evans. Leslie is also survived by his 8 great-grandchildren and brothers Francis (Beulah) Evans of Lamar and Clifford Evans of Golden, Colorado. Many friends and family also survive.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice direct or in care of the Funeral Home Office.

Severo “Shorty” Esquibel

A Funeral Mass for longtime Granada resident, Severo “Shorty” Esquibel was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 29, 2009 at the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Holly, CO with Reverend Charlie Sena as celebrant. A Rosary Service was held prior to the mass at 9:30 AM.
A Rite of Committal was held following the Mass at the Hillside Cemetery in Granada, Colorado.
Per Shorty’s request there was no public visitation.
Shorty was born August 29, 1935 at San Luis, Colorado to John R. and Sara (Cruz) Esquibel and passed away on June 23, 2009 at Prowers Medical Center, with his family by his side at age 73.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter; Laura Esquibel and great-granddaughter; Jasmine and his brother; Onesimo Esquibel.
Shorty is survived by his wife Stella Esquibel of the family home in Granada, his children; Eric Esquibel of Lakin, Kansas, Jonathan (Eva) Esquibel and Carrie (Freddy Venegas) Esquibel all of Granada, grandchildren; Eric John (Jamie) Esquibel, Letisha and Vanessa Esquibel, Jonathan, Erica, Crystal, Amanda, Anthony and Nathaniel Esquibel, David, Damian, Gabriel, Talia and Vincent. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Jaya, Quincy, Amari and Adrik, brothers; Juan Esquibel of San Luis, Colorado, Joseph Esquibel of Denver, Louie (Eunice) Esquibel of Pueblo, Herbert Esquibel of Denver, sisters; Beatrice (Joe) Archuleta of Denver, Eufemia Trueblood of Denver, Isabel Rael, and Darlene (Freddie) Maes of LaSalle, Colorado. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends also survive.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Peacock Family.

Fern Lorraine Elliott

A Service of Celebration for Fern L. Elliott was held at 2:00 P. M. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Gering Memorial Chapel in Gering, Nebraska.
Fern was born Thursday, November 2, 1922 at Alma, Oklahoma to Wayne and Nellie (Vannier) Elliott and passed away at the Juniper Villiage at Lamar on Friday, October 12, 2007 at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Wayne Elliott, Jr. and a daughter, Carolyn Burkman. Fern is survived by her husband LeRoy Wayne Elliott of Lamar, daughter, Judy (Dean) Douglass of Lamar; a son Dennis (Marlena) Elliott of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren Cheryl (Larry) Welton of Wilton, CA; Mark (Nancy) Burkman of Camas, WA; Dede (Rob Woods) Krausman of Parker, CO; Danny (Tammie) Douglass of Greeley, CO; Michael (Vanessa) Bozeman of Suwana, GA; Ricky (Hilary) Elliott of Oklahoma City, OK and Kimberly Elliott of Sacramento, CA as well as her 21 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice, or to Colorado Talking Books Library, 180 Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80226 or to the Nebraska Talking book and Braille Service, The Atrium, 1200 N St, Suite 120, Lincoln, NE 68508-2023 direct or in care of the funeral home.

Alec A. Duarte

A closed casket Funeral Mass for lifelong Granada resident, Alec A. Duarte was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 21, 2008 at the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Holly, CO with Reverend Mario Murillo as celebrant. A Rosary Service was held prior to the mass at 9:30 AM.
A Rite of Committal was held following the Mass at the Hillside Cemetery in Granada, Colorado.
Per Alec’s direction, there was no public visitation.
Alec was born December 1, 1940 at Granada, CO to Abraham and Carmen (Ortega) Duarte and passed away at the age of 67 at his home on November 15, 2008 with his family by his side.
Mr. Duarte is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Katherine Guerrero, Anita Buchanan, Guadalupe Duarte, Raymond Duarte and Sabino Duarte.
Alec is survived by his wife Minnie Duarte of the family home in Granada. His children; Angelo J. Duarte of Thornton, CO, Amanda (Pete) Duarte Jimenez of Thornton, CO and Angela M. Duarte of Northglenn, CO. Grandchildren; Andrea (Jordan) Duarte Rein, Marcos Duarte, Gabriela Jimenez and Lindsay Jimenez. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters; Jesse (Margaret) Duarte of Lamar, CO, James (Rosa) Duarte of Granada, CO, Beatrice Delgado of Bristol, CO and Stella (Severo) Esquibel of Granada as well as numerous nieces, nephew other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.

Donald R. Tayloe, Jr.

A Celebration of Life for longtime Lamar resident, Donald Tayloe, Jr. was held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Reverend Harold Bohl of the Lamar First Southern Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at the Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Peacock Family Chapel.
Mr. Tayloe was born February 14, 1958 at Washington, Missouri to Donald R. and Myrtle Mae (Harrington) Tayloe, Sr. and passed away on November 1, 2008 at Prowers Medical Center at the age of 50.
He is preceded in death by his wife; Judy K. Tayloe and a brother-in-law Homer Roberts.
Donald is survived by his son; Ken (Terri) Tayloe of Cozad, Nebraska, parents; Don (Myrtle) Tayloe of Lamar, and siblings; Cindy Roberts of Lamar, Donna (Dennis) Holmquist of Windom, Kansas, Sandra (Philip) Caddick and Cliff (Rendi) Tayloe all of Lamar. He is also survived by his step-children; Carol Ridgeway of Nebraska, Jeremy (Melissa) Churchill and Michael Churchill all of Lamar as well as numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald R. Tayloe, Jr. Fund in care of the funeral home office.

Jesse B. Hernandez

A Funeral Mass for lifelong Lamar resident Jesse Hernandez was held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the St. Francis De Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Reverend Martin Frias as celebrant. An Evening Rosary Service was held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 with Deacon Henry Wertin officiating. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery.

Jesse was born February 1, 1931 at Lamar, Colorado to Richard and Anita (Bentancourt) Hernandez and went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 16, 2008 at the St. Francis Health Care Center in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 77.

Mr. Hernandez is preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Hernandez, brothers, Enideno Hernandez and Joe Betancourt, a sister Mary Chavira, and aunt and uncle Paul and Carlotta Betancourt.

Jesse is survived by his wife Dora Hernandez of the family home in Lamar, CO; children Jesse (Sharon) Hernandez, Jr. of Manassa, CO, Priscilla (Joe) Marquez of Lamar, CO, Jim (Connie) Hernandez, Ed Hernandez, Pat (Veronica) Hernandez all of Denver, CO, and Lisa (Randy) Alba of Lamar, CO. Jesse is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother Bonifacio (Pauline) Hernandez of Lamar and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Francis De Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church direct or in Care of the funeral home office.

Howard Herbaugh

A Celebration of Life for longtime Lamar resident Howard Herbaugh was held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Peacock Family Chapel with Pastor Dave Davis of the Lamar First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Veteran’s Section at Fairmount Cemetery under the auspices of the Lamar VFW, St. George Creagh Jr., Post #3621 and the American Legion Post #71.
Howard was born December 17, 1925 at Loveland, Colorado to Elmer H. and Mable (Johnson) Herbaugh and passed away on July 18, 2009 at his home in Lamar, Colorado at the age of 83.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sharon Herbaugh, sister and brother-in-law; Laura and Fonda Edson and sister-in-law; Jeanine Herbaugh.
Howard is survived by his wife; Dorothy Herbaugh of the family home in Lamar, son; Marlin Herbaugh of Lamar, granddaughter; Tracee Herbaugh of New York, New York, brothers; Fred (Lois) Herbaugh of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Paul Herbaugh of Las Animas, Colorado. He is also survived by sisters-in-law; Lillian Thornburg of Goodland, Kansas and Birdie Mae (Allen) House of Sioux Falls, South Dakota as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar First Baptist Church and/or the Lamar Area Hospice direct or in care of the funeral home office.

James H. “Red” Heath

A service for longtime Lamar resident and educator, James H. “Red” Heath was held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center with Pastor Mark Viar of the Lamar Redeeming Love Church officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery lead by Red's horse.
Visitation for Red was held from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Peacock Funeral Home. The casket was also opened at the Wellness Center from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon Saturday and not opened following the services.
Red was born on March 25, 1927 at Tokyo, Texas to H.D. Heath, Jr. and Dovie Jane Brock and passed away on January 6, 2009 at the age of 81 at his home in Lamar with his family by his side.
He is preceded in death by his son Timmy D. Heath and his first wife Millicent Heath.
Red is survived by his wife Nelva Heath of the family home. His children; Tanya Sue (Fred) Drew, Jr. of Plainview, Texas, Cy Shawn (Melinda) Heath of McKinney, TX, Dana Hill of Highlands Ranch, CO, Donna (Craig) Sokol of Alexandria, Virginia. Grandchildren; Timothy, David, Audrey Marie and Jeremiah Drew; Abby and Tyler Heath and Kayla Hill. He is also survived by his sister Ovella Owen of Phoenix, AZ and her family as well as Millicent’s family; mother-in-law, Bessie Robbins of Walsh, CO, brother-in-law, Dr. Richard (Cheri) Robbins and family of Walsh, CO, sisters-in-law, Norma Picha and family of Lamar and Robin (Gary) Alcorn and family of Littleton, CO. Many friends, fellow educators and former students also survive.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the LCC Red Heath Scholarship Fund, Redeeming Love Church or to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the Peacock Funeral Home.
