Martha L. Bigler
Martha L. Bigler, 79, of Loveland, died March 28, 2003, at a Loveland nursing home.
She was born Dec. 13, 1923 in Ovid, Mich., to Alfred Lott and Maude Barber Lott. She married Edward G. Bigler in Miami, Fla., in 1979. Bigler was a retired registered nurse with a 30-year career in health care.
She moved to Loveland in 1999 from Estes Park where she had been a resident for six years. She had been a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Loveland for four years.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Bigler of Loveland; son Stephen Hopkins of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter Vicki Mariner (Jim Meade) of Crawfordville, Fla.’ Sister Maggie McDonald (Bill) of Glen Haven; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Services were Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Loveland Good Samaritan Spiritual Life Center. Reverend Scott Turner of All Saints Episcopal Church officiated.

Dr. Mark A. Lieder
Dr. Mark A. Lieder, a well known Estes Park realtor and classic car enthusiast, died Monday, June 23, 2003, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 13, 1949 in Boston, Mass., to Lyle and Betty (Leggett) Lieder.
Lieder graduated from high school in Spencer, Iowa. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and a Masters of Divinity, Doctorate of Ministry from the School of Theology in Claremont, Calif. He joined the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served United Methodist Churches in New Hartford, Fayette, Parkersburg, Woodward, and Iowa Falls. He retired from professional ministry in 1995 and moved to Estes Park, a community he had been a visiting for 30 years. He worked at Coldwell Banker Realty and was a founding member of the Estes Park Car Club. He was passionate about restoring vintage automobiles and collecting antiques. He loved hiking, rock climbing and enjoys intellectual and physical challenges.
He is survived by partner Pam McCarthy and her daughter Natalie Long of Estes Park; son Chris Lieder with the U.S. Air Force in Abilene, Texas; daughter Emily Lieder of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother David Lieder of Stewartville, Minn.; sisters Becky Smith of Iowa City, Iowa; Deb Kiesey of Vinton, Iowa; and Rachel Lieder-Simeon of Eagle River, Alaska He is also survived by and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park, with Rev. Mark Evans officiating.
Dorothy Louise Seifert
Dorothy Louise Seifert, 85, of Estes Park, died June 24, 2003, at Estes Park Medical Center. She was born in Elvira, Iowa on Oct. 5, 1917, to Gustave and Anna Dohse. She married Gerald Patrick Seifert on May 16, 1938. He died on Dec. 18, 1979. She moved from Iowa to Littleton, Colo., in 1954, and had been a resident of Estes Park since 1992. She worked as a clerk at Safeway for 25 years.
She is survived by sons Robert Gene and his wife Mary Jo of Estes Park; James Alan and his wife Leona of Donahue, Iowa; daughter Janice Ann Johnson of Cody, Wyo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Elizabeth Williamson
Ruth Elizabeth Williamson, 82, of Portola Valley, Calif., and a summer resident of Estes Park for the past 54 years, died June 11, 2003.
She was born in Bloomsburg, Penn., in 1920. Among the communities she lived in during her life were Cleveland, Ohio; New York City; Albuquerque, N.M.; Wilmington, Del; Dallas, Texas and Portola Valley.
She attended Columbia University and graduated from the University of New Mexico. She and her husband, Thurmond, had lived in retirement in Portola Valley for the past 27 years.
Williamson’s lifetime interests included home, family, music, world travel, golf and duplicate bridge. She was twice golf club champion in Estes Park and had earned over 1,500 master points in bridge. She also participated in many national tournaments.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years; three married children and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were held June 16, 2003, at Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley.
Lee Kundtz
Lee Kundtz, 71, of Estes Park, died Friday July 11, 2003.
He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Canterbury School in New Milford, Conn., and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., majoring in business administration. He did graduate work at Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Kundtz served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on a destroyer in the Pacific Fleet, achieving the rank of Lieutenant JG.
He and his wife Mary Ann were married June 20, 1957, in Cleveland.
Kundtz and Mary Ann became corporate migrants, moving from Cleveland to San Francisco to Chicago to Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Mich. Kundtz spent his forty-two years in business, primarily in transportation. He retired in 1995 as president and chief operating officer of Alvan Motor Freight Inc. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
During his years in Michigan, he volunteered for many organizations. Among these were the Catholic Human Development (CHD) of Grand Rapids and Catholic Family Services of Kalamazoo, where he served as president of each organization. While at CHD, he established one of the first minority truck driver training programs in the country.
Kundtz loved the mountains. He and his wife found happiness and community when they retired in Estes Park. Kundtz was very active in the community and loved his work for Habitat for Humanity, including his term as president, and as a member of the Housing Authority of Estes Park and Crossroads. He was also a founding member of the Estes Valley Community Services Coalition. In January 2003, Kundtz and his wife were awarded the Martin Luther King Award for service to the community by the Interfaith Council of Estes Park. And in May of this year he was honored with the Community Service Award by the Rotary Club of Estes Park.
Kundtz was an avid skier and enjoyed his ski trips with his Estes friends over the past few years. He also loved to hike and could often be seen in the RMNP.
Most of all Kundtz loved his family. He and Mary Ann celebrated their 45th anniversary last summer with their four children, their partners and seven (soon to be eight), grandchildren. They included Paul and Anne Kundtz (Matt and Molly), Mary and Bob Keppler (Lauren, Kathryn, and Megan), John Kundtz and Thomas Amon, Laura and Glenn Yaeger (John and Michael).
The community is invited to join in a celebration of his life at a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Our Lady of the Mountains church in Estes Park with Father Thomas Holahan, CSP presiding. Memorial gifts may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Estes Valley.
Delbert R. Hillman
Delbert R. Hillman, 60, of Estes Park, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Veterans Hospital in Denver.
Hillman was born Oct. 17,1942, in Chappel, Neb., to George and Alice (Bower) Hillman. He graduated from Lodgepole, Neb., High School. He married Lucy Pacheco at St Anne’s Church in Grand Lake, Colo., on June 11, 1966. The couple spent 32 years in Grand Lake.
Hillman had enjoyed working and being around the rodeo. He was a roper and was involved in many aspects of rodeos. He was a member of the Estes Park Rodeo Committee. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and his grandchildren. For the last 10 years, he was employed as construction manager at the Blue Arrow Campground in Estes Park.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Debbie Sue, in 1968.
He is survived by his wife Lucy of Estes Park, a daughter Tamyra Smith of Grand Lake; his mother Alice Hillman of Lodgepole, Neb.; and a sister, Peggy Yates of Portland, Ore. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlyn and Gage Smith of Grand Lake, and his horse Roni and Cocoa, his dog.

Dwain Saldeen
Dwain Saldeen, 63, of Estes Park and Las Vegas, Nev., died at home in Estes Park Tuesday July 15, 2003. He was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Urbana, Ill, to. Fredrick and Martha (Hanson) Saldeen. He spent his first 37 years in Paxton, Ill.
He married Alice Connour in Dowigiac, Mich., on Feb. 13, 1960. The couple first moved to Estes Park in July of 1977, when Dwain and Alice joined the staff at Covenant Heights Bible camp, wher e they worked for five years. He also worked at the Estes Park Lumber Company. In 1995, he moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and worked at Mc Carron Airport until illness brought him back to Estes Park this Spring. Saldeen was a lifelong member of The Evangelical Covenant Church. In Las Vegas, he was a member of the Warm Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of Pan Can, a faciliator of Forget Me Nots a group of parents who have lost children, the Mountaineer Breakfast Club, and a past member of the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lila Elliott, and a son Kevin in 1977.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Las Vegas and Estes Park; a daughter Kara Bryan and her husband Jim of Loveland, and three grandchildren Cassie and Corey Wiemers, and Tyler Bryan of Loveland. Josephine “Jane” Slater
Former Estes Park resident Josephine “Jane” Slater died in Greeley.
She was the widow of Benjamin Slater and had lived in Estes Park for several years. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday July 21,

Leonora A. Hartmann
Leonora A. Hartmann, 86, of Estes Park, died on July 14, 2003, at Prospect Park Living Center.
She was born on Feb. 15, 1917, in Covington, Ky., to Lloyd and Martha (Otto) MacDonald. Hartmann graduated from high school in Covington and attended Cincinnati Business School.
She married Karl W. Hartmann on May 20, 1943, in Covington. The couple moved to Cincinnati, Ohio after their marriage. She worked as a dietician at Cincinnati Bible School and Seminary for 15 years.
Hartmann moved to Estes Park in 1967, where her love of plants and the natural beauty of Colorado were the subjects of her artistic talents. She moved to Estes Park and helped friends start Double J K Ranch at the site of what is now the Salvation Army Camp south of town. She then went to work in the office of Black Canyon Ranch for three years, and Covenant Heights Camp for 10 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church (now known as Mountain View Bible Fellowship) for over 30 years. She was a member of the Mission Team and AWANA teaching group, and taught for many years. She was also a member of Community Bible Study Group. She was a volunteer at Crossroads Ministry from its start. She loved painting and was a very talented artist. She loved to garden and loved her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1954, parents, three brothers, a sister and a niece, Marilyn Friend.
She is survived by nephews Willis MacDonald, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; Dr. William MacDonald of Morgantown, W. Va.; and J. Roderick MacDonald of Cleveland, Ohio. She is also survived by a niece, Virginia MacDonald of Cincinnati, Ohio, and very close friends: C.J. and Dave Essex of Estes Park.

Frank Williams
Long time Estes Park resident and businessman Frank Williams died July 29, 2003, at his home in Estes Park.
Williams and his wife Karen were the owners of Rocky Mountain Traders for over 22 years.

James Frederick Prather Jr.
James Frederick “Jim” Prather Jr., 86, of Tarkio, Mo., died July 25, 2003, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
He was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Tarkio to James Frederick Prather Sr., and Flora (Peck) Prather. He was a lifelong resident of Tarkio. He graduated from Tarkio High School, and in 1939, from Tarkio College. He was also an Eagle Scout.
He married Genevieve (Gennie) McNulty on Aug. 17, 1940, in Seattle, Wash.
In 1950, he went to work for Standard Oil Company, serving as a bulk oil agent for 26 years until he retired in 1976.
He and his wife loved to travel. They enjoyed their condo just off the golf course in Estes Park for 20 years.
Prather was an active member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church. He served the church in many capacities and was on the finance committee at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, holding numerous offices. He was also a member of North Star Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M. of Rock Port, Mo. He was a faithful member of the Tarkio and Estes Park Rotary Clubs.
His favorite hobbies were golf, golf, more golf and skiing.
In his later years he remained a loyal Tarkio supporter and was a familiar figure on downtown Main Street where he went to his office almost every day.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gennie who died on Oct. 3, 2000. He was also preceded by his parents and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Henson and Helen Wiegle.
He is survived by sons, Greg Prather and his wife Donnis of Waverly, Mo., and Steve Prather and his wife Renea of Tarkio; grandchildren, Suzanne Hudson and her husband Bill of Liberty, Mo., Jayson Prather and his wife Dallas of Tarkio, David Prather and his wife Andrette of Liberty and Reese Prather of Tarkio; great-grandchildren Collin, Brennan and Quinn Hudson, and Cole and Claire Prather; a brother, Lynn Prather and his wife Maralee of Maryville, Mo.
Services were July 29, 2003, at the Tarkio United Methodist Church. Dr. James Shrieves officiated. Interment was in Home Cemetery
in Tarkio.
