Graveside services for Erma Lee Corbin, 93, of La Junta will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be until noon that day at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Mrs. Corbin died Oct. 14, 2004.

She is survived by two neices, two nephews and one great-nephew.

Contributions may be made to Arkansas Valley Regional Care Center in La Junta.

Park Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PADILLA

Funeral services for Rose Marie Padilla, 65, of La Junta will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Our Lady of Guadalupe-St. Patrick Parish in La Junta. She died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004.

She was born Sept. 6, 1939 to Florentino and Sophia Padilla.

Ms. Padilla is survived by her sister, Elsie (Peter) Gonzales of Denver; brothers Ralph (Isabel) Padilla of Albuquerque, N.M., Florentino (Toni) Padilla and Paul Padilla of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florentino and Sophia Padilla.

Johnson Romero Funeral Home and Grooms Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

SCHROCK

A memorial service for Robert "Bob" E. Schrock, 62, of Las Animas will be held Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Adams City Baptist Church, 6951 Dexter St., Commerce City, CO. Mr. Schrock died Oct. 13, 2004 at his home in Las Animas. There was cremation.

He was born March 14, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kan. to Tobe and Florence (Miller) Schrock.

Mr. Schrock is survived by his children, Rhonda (John) Rable of Commerce City, Kevin (Renee) Schrock of Fort Morgan and Melinda (Mike) Wray of DeBerry, Texas; sisters Shirley Knudsen of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Kay (Mark) Noftsinger of Roanoke, Va.; brothers C.V. (Dolly) Schrock of Severn, Md., James (Sandy) Schrock of Thurmont, Md., Larry (Linda) Schrock of Berryton, Kan. and Tom (Susan) Schrock of Swink, and six grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Doretta Reid.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.

MANWEILER

Henry Manweiler, 77, of La Junta died Oct. 17, 2004 at his home. Services are pending through Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Rocky Ford.

Funeral services for Henry H. Manweiler, 77, of La Junta will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar City with Reverend Rick Miller officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery in Sugar City. Mr. Manweiler died Oct. 17, 2004 at his home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1926 at Sugar City to Karl and Katie (Gesick) Manweiler. He was a lifelong resident of the Arkansas Valley and a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar City. He married Faye Williams on Feb. 20, 1949 at Sugar City. Mr. Manweiler farmed for 45 years, retiring in 1993. He also worked for Crowley County, the National and American Sugar Companies and Ark Valley Coop. Following his retirement he spent winters with his wife "snowbirding" in Arizona. He lived to laugh, tease and spend every moment he could with his family.

Mr. Manweiler is survived by his wife of their La Junta home, Faye, of 55 years; daughters Linda (Larry) Cobb of Colorado Springs and Mona (Tracy) Bigelow of Colorado Springs; a son, Keith (Valerie) Manweiler of La Junta; grandchildren David (Nicole), Tawnya (Jim), Trina (Shana), Tracy (Robin), Brad (Dara), Megan and Ashley; great-grandchildren Anthony, Katie, Paige, Dylan, Kelsey, Justin, Matthew, Bryttaney, Kamryn, Anthony and Becca; sisters Dorothy Grasmick of Texas and Eleanor Neifert of Sugar City; brothers Harold (Joyce) of Sugar City and Robert (Charlene) of La Junta; sisters-in-law Audrey Manweiler, Josey Guy and Betty (Don) Filbeck; brothers-in-law E.J. (Peggy) Williams and Birl (Shirley) Williams; and numerous neices and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Albert and Elmer.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society for research in care of Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, which is in charge of arrangements.

BACA

Graveside services for Richard R. Baca, 58, of Denver and a former La Junta resident will be held Friday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Heir of the New Hope Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Mr. Baca died Oct. 15, 2004 at his Denver home.

He was born Dec. 15, 1945 in La Junta to Serafin and Cruz (Rosales) Baca. He married Donna Biergans, who survives him. Mr. Baca is also survived by his daughter, Margaret (Billy Benavidez), grandchildren Kayla, Ashley and Billy Benavidez; a sister, Fina (Herman) Sandoval; brothers Benny (Jenny) Baca, Raymond Baca and Bobby Baca; a sister-in-law, Cathy Biergans and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phillip Baca.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.

ORTIZ

Services for Benjamin "Ben" R. Ortiz Sr., 63, will be held Monday, Oct. 25 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Mr. Ortiz died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at his home in La Junta. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Monday with funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Father Charles Sena will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.

Mr. Ortiz was born Jan. 13, 1941 in Trinidad, the son of Bonifacio and Mollie (Salas) Ortiz. He graduated from La Junta High School with the class of 1959. He married Bernice L. Gomez on July 24, 1965 in La Junta.

Survivors include is wife, Bernice, of the family home; children Denice (George Tapia) Ortiz of La Junta, Benjamin Ortiz Jr. of Denver, Sean Ortiz of La Junta; a brother, George Ortiz of La Junta; sisters, Shirley (Alan) Dale of Divide and Mary Jane Chavez of La Junta; grandchildren, Orlando Sanchez, Natalie Ortiz, Megan, Anthony and Briana Ortiz; sisters-in-law Lucy Gonzales of Mississippi and Lucille Ortiz of Grand Junction; brothers-in-law Rick Gomez and Joe Gomez of Denver; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Mollie Ortiz.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the Arkansas Valley Hospice Association, P.O. Box 1067, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium which has charge of arrangements.

HYATT

Funeral for Hudson C. Hyatt, 70, of Pueblo and a former La Junta resident, will be held Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Pastor Orlando Vigil of the Good Shepherd Fellowship in Pueblo will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Silver Cliff Cemetery in Silver Cliff. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 22, from noon to 7 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home.

Mr. Hyatt died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 in Pueblo. He was born Sept. 8, 1934 in Johnson, Kan., the son of Claude and Lena M. (Dunsworth) Hyatt.

Mr. Hyatt grew up in the Pritchett area. He married Bernadine Lucy Murphy in 1954. She preceded him in death. Mr. Hyatt served for eight years with the Army National Guard during the 1950s. He worked as a brakeman/conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad for 26 years before retiring in 1978. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved camping, fishing and hunting.

He married Ruth A. Dewald on Dec. 24, 1981 in La Junta. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the Pueblo home; children, Hudson R. "Ricky" (Elizabeth) Hyatt of Colorado, Kelly (Karen) Hyatt of Strasburg, Ella (Dan) Bozarth of Colorado Springs; step-children, Andy Cornell of Las Animas and Babe (Mike) Jordan of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Betty Jordan of Colorado City; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Bonneau of Safford, Ariz., and Gretchen (Cecil) Wear of Pueblo; 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother, Lena May Jerby; son, Doyle Hyatt; daughter, Faye Dewald; step-daughter, Carolyn Sue Wood; step-grandson, Sammy Wood; brothers, Tillman and Alfred Hyatt.

SILVEY

Services for well-known farmer, rancher and cattle buyer Cecil E. Silvey of Walsh and Baca County will be held Friday, Oct. 22. The service will be at the First Baptist Church in Walsh at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Walsh Cemetery. Mr. Silvey died Monday night, Oct. 18, 2004 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs following a lengthy illness.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie of the home; three sons, Howard Silvey of Kingman, Kan., Jim Silvey and Travis Silvey of Walsh; one daughter, Shirley Sharpe of Springfield and a brother, Delmer Silvey of Walsh.

Memorials may be made to the Walsh Healthcare Center.

Dykes Funeral Home of Walsh has charge of arrangements.

GONZALES

Evening service for Toby Gonzales, 45, will be held Sunday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford. Visitation is scheduled Sunday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Gonzales of Colorado Springs, and former Rocky Ford resident, died Oct. 27, 2004 in Colorado Springs.

Funeral service will be at First Christian Church, Ninth and Maple, Rocky Ford, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1. This is a change of service location for Mr. Gonzales.

Martinez

Pifanio H. Martinez Jr. entered into rest at his home in Swink, October 27, 2004. He was born in La Junta, September 12, 1943. He was 61. Pifanio was a graduate of Otero Junior College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in 1967, as well as an Associate of Applied Science in 1991. In 1970 Pifanio received a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and Social Studies with Minors in Sociology and Anthropology. In 1971 Pifanio was awarded "Teacher of the Year" by students of La Junta Junior High. Pifanio enjoyed reading, writing, word games, coin collecting and spending time with his pets. He also enjoyed working with migrant children, reading the Bible and sharing his knowledge with others. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on March 28, 1998. Survivors include, his mother, Lupie Martinez of La Junta. Brothers: Bennie Martinez of Denver, Joe (San Juana) Martinez of Albuquerque, NM, Paul (Loraine) Martinez of La Junta. Sisters: Lydia Martinez Correa of La Junta and Gloria Trujillo of La Junta. He was preceded in death by his father, Pifanio Martinez Sr., brother, Mike Garcia, grandparents, Celia and Teodora Martinez. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2105 Adams St. in La Junta. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Johnson-Romero Funeral Home & Grooms Crematory.

SMITH

William "Bill" Smith, 89, of La Junta, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium.

WILLHOITE

Regina Willhoite, 90, of La Junta, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.

HAYDEN

Memorial Mass for Rose Mary Hayden, 70, of Rocky Ford and formerly of La Junta, will be held Friday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Both services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with Father Charles Sena officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Hayden died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Pioneer Health Care Center in Rocky Ford. She was born March 13, 1934 at Trujillo, N.M., the daughter of Clifford and Lucia D. (Olguin) Gallegos.

She was married to Randall A. Hayden on Aug. 22, 1964 in Las Vegas, N.M. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1990.

Mrs. Hayden was a homemaker and she was a member of the Altar Society.

Survivors include step-sons, Larry Hayden and Phil Hayden; close friend, Florence Flores and other close friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Clifford and Lucia D. Gallegos; her husband, Randall A. Hayden and sister, Alice Venavides.

JOHNSON

Funeral services for L.C. "Red" Johnson, 87, of La Junta will be Friday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in La Junta with Evangelist Danny Aragon officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16 at Harris Cemetery near Broken Bow, Okla. Mr. Johnson died Nov. 9, 2004 at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 12, 1917 in Tom, Okla. to Gordon and Maude (Allison) Johnson. He was self-employed in construction doing plaster and stucco work throughout the Arkansas Valley. He worked at Bent's Old Fort for 15 years and he worked with the National Park Service for several years. He was also a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Johnson married Ruby Long in 1936 and she preceded him in death in 1979. He married Helen Barrington Phelps in 1983.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Helen, of the La Junta home; a daughter, Carolyn (Clifford) Headrick of Cheraw; a son, Jerry (Velma) Johnson of Broken Bow, Okla.; a brother, Odell (Maurice) Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters Verna Jordon of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ruby Turner of La Junta and Louise (Ray) Snelson of La Junta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby, a sister, Lucille Holder, and brothers Willy Johnson and Loss Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, 10th and Cimarron Ave., La Junta, 81050 direct or through Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium, which is in charge of arrangements.

HODGE

Pearl E. Hodge, 85, of La Junta died Nov. 10, 2004 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.

BALRIDGE

Martha L. Baldridge, 89, of La Junta died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium.

BRODRICK

Funeral services for Michael Leon Brodrick, 46, of Rocky Ford will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Community United Presbyterian Church in Rocky Ford with Rev. John Dell officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford. Mr. Brodrick died Nov. 14, 2004 at his home.

He was born Sept. 25, 1958 in La Junta, the son of Mary Lou and Leon Brodrick. He graduated with the Manzanola High School Class of 1977. He was a service manager for Rusler Implement at the time of his death.

Mr. Brodrick is survived by his son, Bo Michael; his parents, Mary Lou and Sonny Meyer; sisters Debbie (Les) Hillburn and Brenda Passarelli; brothers Steve Meyer and David Meyer; grandmother Wilma Bailey; an uncle, Norm (Lila) Bailey; aunts Paula (Steve) Mallott and Claudine (Merl) Wagner; nephews Shawn, Dillon and Logan Hillburn, Seth Passarelli and Thomas Meyer; niece Cristi Meyer and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Brodrick, grandparents Dewey and Ruby Brodrick, grandfather LeMoyne Bailey and also Claude and Georgina Meyer, aunts Ruby Jo Jefcoat and Peggy Crosby.

Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

JOHNSON

Graveside services for Duane R. Johnson, 62, of Santa Fe, N.M. and a former La Junta resident, will be Friday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe. He died Nov. 13, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Johnson had served in the Air Force for six years and was a vocational rehabilitation specialist for 30 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Johnson; son-in-law, Daniel Rios; and grandchildren Devin, Darius, Enrique and Sierra Rios. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne (Godfrey) Johnson and his parents, Marie (Morse) and Norman Johnson.

A potluck memorial gathering will be held at the Johnson home, 2348 Avenida Las Campanas in Santa Fe on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with special sharing time from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Direct Funeral Services of Santa Fe is in charge of arrangements.
