OWEN
Graveside services for Helen Juanita Owen, 75, a longtime La Junta resident, will be on Monday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery
with Mark Fisher of the Arkansas Valley Hospice Association officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. Mrs. Owen died Dec. 1, 2004 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1929 in La Junta to Cavy F. and Georgia (Woodall) Fenter. She married Max W. Owen on July 3, 1946 in Urbana, Ill. Mrs. Owen retired from AT&T as an operator in 1984. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Organization and of the Red Hat Gal from Pueblo to La Junta.
Mrs. Owen is survived by her son, Dan (Betty) Owen of Napa, Calif.; a grandson, Kevin; a granddaughter, Danielle; brothers Otho Fenter of Victorville, Calif., Cal Fenter of Lake Cor De Alene, Idaho, and Ray Fenter of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a sister, Nina Trowman of Seattle, Wash.; her niece and companion, Jeanne Fenter of La Junta (who moved in with Mrs. Own in July so she could remain at home); and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998, a son, Roger Owen in 1996, a sister, Ima Thomas, and two brothers: Owen Fenter and Werdie Fenter.

MUNIZ
Services for Jose Matias Muniz, 64, of La Junta, are pending at Johnson-Romero Funeral Home and Grooms Crematory. Mr. Muniz died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo. He was a La Junta native, born April 8, 1940, the son of Matias Muniz and Rose Madrid Muniz. Mr. Muniz married Dora Frances Muniz on Oct. 25, 1958 at the Catholic Church. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Muniz enjoyed having his family and friends around. He like to play horseshoes, enjoyed his garden, his dogs and collecting antiques. He also liked to listen to music and enjoyed the singer, "Selene" and her music.
Survivors include sons, Paul (Cathy) Muniz, Joey Muniz of La Junta and Ricky Muniz, Rocky Ford; daughters, Molly (Benny) Rangel of Pueblo, Renee (Jose) Salas and Shawntee (Ronnie) Guerrero of La Junta; brother, Raymond (Rose) Muniz, Denver; sisters, Patsy Agulair of Pueblo and Maryann (Ramon) Bencomo of Cheyenne Wells; grandchildren, Joseph, Jasen and Jared Muniz, Bennie Michael Martinez, Pueblo; Steven Martinez, Timothy Muniz, Andrew Muniz, Sheila, AnnaLisa, Edward and Christina Muniz and Angel Martinez, all of La Junta; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Frances Muniz; daughter, Anna Martinez; father and mother, Matias Muniz and Rose Madrid Muniz; sister, Florence Guerrero.

LOCKE
Sybil Locke, 90, of Albuquerque, N.M., died March 24, 2008.
She was born June 11, 1917 at Ingalls, Kan., (near Cimarron). The family moved to La Junta and then near Pritchett where she and her four brothers and three sisters grew up. There she met and married George Locke. To this marriage were born two daughters, Patricia and Janet.
In 1955, Mrs. Locke embraced the teachings of Jesus which she faithfully followed throughout the rest of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Velma and Cash Davis; her brothers Clayton, Richard, Forrest and Arla Davis as well as her sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene (Clarence) Loges, Marie (Harold) Cook and Iris (George) Wilson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (Harold) Halbig of Los Lunas, N.M. and Janet (Ray) Carver of La Junta; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Kevin (Christa) Carver and their sons, Conner and Keenan of Colorado Springs; Cheryl (Kent) Avens and their children, McKensie and Matthew of Ulysses, Kan.; three step-grandsons and three step-great-grandchildren, Randy (Anita) Halbig and daughter Emily of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Kevin (Sarah) Halbig and two children, Aaron and Amber of Los Lunas, N.M.; Dana (Katrina) Halbig of Gilbert, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

McLANE
Delbert Clinton “Bud” McLane, 80, of Rocky Ford, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Pioneer Healthcare Center. At his request a private family graveside service was held at the Fairview Cemetery
with Pastor Maynard Bowen of the Prairie Bible Chapel officiating.
He was born in Globe, Ariz., on June 22, 1927 to Dewitt Clinton and Sylvia (Chase) McLane.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his great nieces, Amber Brandi (Martin) Keenen of Albuquerque, N.M.; Laura (Bob) Perry of La Junta; Dee (Anthony Rangel) Quick of La Junta; Debra Peterson of Pueblo; Julia Hoeppner of La Junta and his nephew, Mark Goodwin of Tempe, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, and two nieces.

COX
At her request, there will be private family services held at a later date in Colorado Springs for Martine Cox, 94, of La Junta.
Mrs. Cox died March 19, 2008, at Arkansas Valley Nursing Care Center in La Junta.
She was born July 1, 1913, in Carthage, Mo., to Andrew and Louise Bowles Tucker. She grew up in Pueblo, Lamar, and Ordway and graduated from Ordway High School in 1934.
By the time she was 16, she was a licensed beautician.
She lived in Colorado Springs for 60 years prior to moving to La Junta in 2000 to be with her daughter.
She lived in Cottonwood Assisted Living in Rocky Ford before moving to Arkansas Valley Nursing Care Center.
For many years she was employed as a saleslady and then went to work at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs as payroll and catering secretary for 17 years and retired in 1978.
She is survived by her children Jeanette (Robert) Myers of Woodland Park, Sharon Benton of La Junta and stepson James (Barbara) Woodruff of Rocky Ford; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dolores (Virg) Irelan of Sterling.

Funeral Mass for Thomas R. Maes, 73, of Rocky Ford will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford with Father Mario Murillo officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery
in Rocky Ford. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford.
Mr. Maes died March 23, 2008, at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1934, at Watrous, N.M., to Rosando Maes and Aurora (Arrpyos) Maes. He married Fedelina Martinez in 1971 in Rocky Ford.
He worked at American Crystal Sugar Company and then at Frozen Foods. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Fedelina Maes of the family home in Rocky Ford; children Charles Maes of Pueblo, Pinky Montoya of Rocky Ford, Hippie (Bobbie Jo) Esquibel of Lamar and Chris (Linda) Esquibel of Pueblo; five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; mother Aurora Maes of Rocky Ford; brothers and sisters Louis (Chong) Maes of Kansas, Bob (Elsie) Maes of Rocky Ford, Anthony (Lydia) Maes of Rocky Ford, Julia Trujillo of Pueblo, Eleanor Apodaca of Rocky Ford, Dorothy Rocha of Rocky Ford; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father and seven brothers.

McCURRY
Memorial service for Lawrence Earl McCurry, 83, of La Junta, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 28, at the Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Mr. McCurry died March 20, 2008, at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 24, 1924 in Canon City, to Jesse Arthur and Ruth (Young) McCurry. He married Fran C. Mattke on March 18, 1950 in Raton, N.M. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1989. He later married Dorothy Betty Souder.
He was a dedicated member of the Euclid Lodge No. 64, the Royal Arch Chapter No. 20, Adoniram Council No. 12, Palestine Commandry No. 22, Chivington Chapter No. 32, Order of Eastern Star, Past Matron and Patron Club, Al Kaly Shrine, Knights of York Cross of Honor, Order of High Priesthood, Past Commander’s Association Knights Templar of Colorado, Kincora Council No. 8, Harmony Club, Order of Silver Trowel, Actual Pastmaster, Colorado Council Thrice Illustrious Masters, Grand Officer of Royal Arch Chapter, Emergency Medical Technician, Boy Scout Troop No. 234, Otero County Safety Council. He was also a member of the La Junta Fire Department (John Fisher Hose Co.) since 1951.
He is survived by his wife Betty; stepdaughters Kip Malone and Barbara Craig; stepson, Bill Dowler; brothers Arthur H. McCurry, William McCurry; sisters Dorothy B. Moore, Betty Jean Ashley, and Donna K. Braden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife.

Mr. Montoya died March 22, 2008, at Fowler Health Care Center.
He as born Dec. 14, 1925, in Pueblo to Cornelio Montoya Sr. and Elisaida (Manzanares) Montoya. He married Flora Montoya.
He was raised in Antonito. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After leaving the Army he returned to Colorado and lived in the Crowley and Ordway areas until moving to Rocky Ford in 1962. He was employed at the Pueblo Army Depot for 32 years retiring in 1979. He enjoyed being with all of his grandchildren. He did leather craft and wood carvings and loved to take long walks.
He is survived by his children Ofilia (Frank) Gallegos of Liberal, Kan., Cornia Montoya of Garden City, Kan., Martha Gomez of Rocky Ford and Raymond Montoya of Rocky Ford; grandchildren Anita Hernandez, Cesar Martinez Jr., Michelle Gomez, Eric Martinez, Joey Gomez and great-granddaughter Jaylene Hernandez; sisters Socorro Abeyta of Colorado Springs, Apapita “Vicky” Cornell of Arizona and brother Ernest Montoya of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Flora and grandson David Gomez.

TRUJILLO
Rosary service for Julia M. Trujillo, 91, of La Junta will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, with the funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Mario Murillo officiating.
Mrs. Trujillo died March 20, 2008, at the Pioneer Healthcare Center in Rocky Ford.
She was born July 4, 1916, in Swink to Joe and Nancy (Roy) Mestas. She married Albert S. Trujillo in Rocky Ford in 1937.
She is survived by her children Albert (Evelina) Trujillo of Denver; Nancy (William) Tapia of Colorado Springs; Franklin A. Trujillo of La Junta; Tony (Molly) Trujillo of Colorado Springs; Lucille (Joe) Roman of Pueblo; Robert (Irene) Trujillo of La Junta; Cordie and Rosa also survive; brother Felix (Helen) Mestas of California; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Nancy Mestas, her husband Albert S. Trujillo, five brothers and three sisters.

Doak
A graveside memorial Service for Grace Ball Doak, 85, will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fowler Cemetery.
Mrs. Doak died on March 27, 2008, at the family home.
Per her request there will be no public visitation.
She was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Olney Springs to Charles P. Ball and Etta Jeffery Ball.
In 1927, the family moved to Buckeye Hill north of Manzanola on the farm her grandparents homesteaded. She graduated from Manzanola High School in 1939 and married George W. Doak on July 12, 1941.
During World War II, she worked in an airplane factory as a “Rosie the Riveter” in San Diego, Calif. After the war she returned to the family homestead until 1969 when they moved the dairy farm to Fowler.
She was an active member of the Buckeye Hill Mother’s Club, the Pythian Sisters in Manzanola and the number Six Club in Fowler. She worked many years as the site manager for the Meals on Wheels program in Fowler. She spent her retired years at her home in Fowler during the summer months and in Phoenix, Ariz., during the winter.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the beautiful flowers she maintained and cared for in her yard every summer. She also loved to travel and took many trips in her later years including a trip to England where her family originated.
She is survived by daughters Sandy Flynn of Monument, Joyce (Dave) Sacchetta of Olney Springs, Pam Cadwallader of Cheraw, Lynette (Wayde) Foster of Cheraw and a son Keith (Patty) Doak of Fowler; grandchildren Darin Hjelmstad, Donna Steger, Teri Charles, Mike Doak, Kyle Doak, Brandon Doak, Timmery Foster and Zeke Foster; great-grandchildren include; Corey Hjelmstad, Ryan Hjelmstad, Ian Hjelmstad and Colton Charles and sister Irene Groves.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, grandson Eric Sacchetta and one sister, Zelma McDowell.

FLINN
Graveside services for Richard Eugene Flinn, 82, of Pueblo and formerly of La Junta will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Fairview Cemetery

Mr. Flinn died March 26, 2008 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo.
He was born on May 17, 1925 in Las Animas to Herman E. and Blanche M. (Winters) Flinn. He married Laverne Bishop on July 12, 1946, in La Junta.
He graduated from La Junta High School with the class of 1943. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a conductor for 30 years with the Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1985.
He is survived by his wife Laverne of the Pueblo home; children Richard (Liz) Flinn, Jr. of Rockport, Texas; Bruce (June) Flinn of Lakewood; Peggy Stephenson of Pueblo; Tracey (Charles) Breidenbach of Corpes Christi, Texas; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death his parents, several brothers and sisters, one grandson Jeremiah Breidenbach.

Mrs. Skinner-Mihalick died March 27, 2008 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
She was born on April 17, 1916 in Fowler to Bert and Ellen (Beyers) Lee. She married Andrew Mihalick in 1953.
She grew up in La Junta and made her home in Pueblo. She enjoyed camping and fishing on the Arkansas, traveling, buying and selling Native American Jewelry. Her favorite thing to do was dancing and visiting with her friends at the Eagles.
She is survived by her son Tommy (Melvina) Skinner, Sr.; sister Betty Smith; daughter-in-law Pat (Art) Gallegos; grandchildren Debby (Scott) Howard, Tom (Tracy) Skinner, Jr., Andre Jerald Skinner, A.J.(Jason) Gallegos, Joseph (Jennifer) Gallegos; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew Mihalick, son Jerald Edward Skinner, sister Gail Bacon, brother Edward Lee and grandson Jerald Lee Skinner.

Mr. Lucero died March 28, 2008, at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.
He was born Oct. 18, 1972, in Rocky Ford to Eugene Lucero and Ruby Cruz Lucero. He graduated from Manzanola High School in 1991. He worked in home health care.
He is survived by his mother Ruby Lucero of Rocky Ford; brothers Rocky (Patsy) Lucero of Rocky Ford, Art Lucero of Manzanola, Phil (Christine) Lucero of Colorado Springs; sister Diana (Kirk) Francis of Union Grove, Ala.; nephews Lyle, Gabriel, Travis and Zaya Lucero; niece Tianna (Alvaro) Lucero; grandniece and nephews Kierstin Lucero, Alayashia Gonzalez and Eden Gonzalez, special friend Michelle Trujillo and her children Evan, Domonique, Sebastianna, Izekiel and Jaelynn.
