Ora Lee Hardt
March 28, 1911 - November 6, 2004
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Ora Lee Hardt, died Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 93 years old.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Ora Lee Adams was born on March 28, 1911 in Oksmukee, Oklahoma to the late Oliver E. and Mary Evelyn (Dunahoo) Adams. She spent her childhood years in Oklahoma and Texas, attending school in both places.
On May 11, 1926 in Hallettsville, Texas, Ora married Bertie I. Groda. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1934 in Olney, Texas. On June 13, 1941, she married Irwin M. Hardt in Victoria, Texas. The marriage was later dissolved.
Ms. Hardt was a secretary for the Armed Forces. She resided in North Dakota before moving to Delta in 1975. Her interests included playing cards and crocheting.
Survivors include one son, Bertie I. Groda and his wife Wilma of Delta; one daughter, Patricia Freuh and husband Gary of Harvey, North Dakota; a daughter - in - law, Ruthie Groda of Beeville, TX; two sisters: Sylvia Schwabe of Corpus Christie, TX and Evelyn Bennett of Longville, LA. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and five great - great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and her first husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Vernon I. Groda, her former husband, Irwin Hardt and one brother and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delta Senior Citizens, 247 Meeker St., Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Cora A. Johnson
July 15, 1930 - October 31, 2004
DELTA - Delta resident Cora A. Johnson, died Sunday, October 31, 2004 at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 74 years of age.
Private services will be held.
Cora Alverta Atkinson was born on July 15, 1930 in Northeast, Maryland to the late Randolph and Sarah Caroline (Johnson) Atkinson. She spent her childhood in Northeast and graduated from high school there in 1948.
Ms. Johnson was a direct decedent of George Washington, being a 6th generation niece. She was homemaker and a resident of Coal Creek Canyon near Boulder, Colorado for 25 years prior to moving to Delta. She was a former member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Maryland. Her interests included traveling, riding motorcycles, playing bingo and gambling.
Survivors include two sons: Ben Johnson of Delta and Johnny Keitly of Norteast, MD; one daughter, Kathryn Covello of Thornton, CO; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Cora was also preceded in death by her former husband, Edward Johnson and a daughter, Edwina Johnson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Sharon Ann de Ochoa
December 9, 1943 - October 29, 2004
DELTA - Delta County resident Sharon de Ochoa, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 60 years old.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at the Delta City Cemetery with Pastor Earl Douglas officiating.
Sharon Ann Gould was born on December 9, 1943, to Nathaniel and Caroline (Roberts) Gould in Derby, Connecticut. She spent her childhood in Connecticut and Caribou, Maine. Sharon graduated from high school in Oxford, Connecticut, and furthered her education at Dade County Community College in Florida. She had been a resident of Delta for the past four years.
Sharon married Eladio Enrique Lopez Ochoa on September 3, 1992, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He survives.
Mrs. de Ochoa had been a reimbursement specialist in the collections business at one time. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. Sharon enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts and she loved cats and dogs.
Those grateful to have shared in Sharon’s life include her husband, Eladio Lopez Ochoa of Delta, CO; her mother, Caroline Fortier of Vermont; and her father and step - mother, Nat and Janet Gould of Florida; a brother, Nat “Skip” Gould, Jr. of Burlington, VT; and a sister, Robin Ballard and her husband Kenneth of Delta, CO.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Verlin V. Garver
October 15, 1916 - October 29, 2004
PAONIA - Longtime Western Colorado resident, Verlin V. Garver, died Friday, October 29, 2004 at Paonia Care and Rehab Center. He was 88.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 3rd at Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia. Pastor Charles Steinberg will preside.
Verlin Virgil Garver was born on October 15, 1916, in Decatur, Illinois to the late Jett and Mattie (Tomlinson) Garver. He spent his childhood and attended school in Arkansas.
On July 17, 1939, in Covington, Indiana, Verlin married Iva Lesher. They had resided in Clifton, Colorado, Eckert and Paonia. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2001.
Mr. Garver retired in 1969, after spending many years working as a painter and drywall finisher. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Delta. He enjoyed painting landscapes, watching television and attending church.
Survivors include one son, Wayne Garver of Somerset, CO and his significant other, Wilma Walter of Grand Junction; and a daughter - in - law, Kathy Garver of Copperas Cove, TX. He is further survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by one son, Jim Garver and two grandsons, Jon and James Garver.
Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Roy R. Borders
April 30, 1925 - October 23, 2004
DELTA - Delta County resident, Roy R. Borders, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2004, at his residence. He was 79 years old.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at the Delta City Cemetery with services conducted by the Delta - Lee Marts V.F.W. Post 3571.
Roy R. Borders was born on April 30, 1925, to Charles Richard and Ethel Josephine (Hall) Borders in Melrose, New Mexico. He spent his childhood in New Mexico and attended school in Farmington.
On January 6, 1952, Roy married Artha Mae Dennis in Farmington, New Mexico. Roy and Artha lived in several places including: Rifle Colorado, Montrose, Colorado, and Gabbs, Nevada, before they moved to Delta, where they have resided for the past eleven years. They had celebrated over fifty - one years of marriage. She survives.
Roy served his country in the United States Marines during World War II.
Mr. Borders enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading western books. He especially loved his family and grandchildren along with many other children that blessed his life.
Those grateful to have shared in Roy’s life include his wife, Artha Borders of Delta, CO; one son, Cecil Charles Borders of Delta, CO; two sisters: Lillian Moore and Gay Vanderpool and her husband Gerald all of Montrose, CO. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Pamela Grant, Johnathan Borders, and Jennifer Borders; and one great - grandson, Skyler David Ketcham; along with nieces and nephews: Mark and Kathleen Coffee, Wayne, Carl and Janice Vanderpool.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s memory to the Delta - Lee Marts V.F.W. Post 3571, P.O. Box 347, Delta, CO 81416.

David Russell Brewer, III
October 16, 2004 - October 17, 2004
DELTA - David Russell Brewer, III passed away at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, October 17, 2004. He was one day old.
A memorial service for David will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Mark Brewer will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel.
David Russell Brewer, III was born on October 16, 2004, at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia, to David Russell and Bobbi Jean Erlinda (Vigil) Brewer, II. They both survive.
Survivors include David’s parents, David and Bobbi Jean Brewer, II of Delta, CO; paternal grandparents, David Brewer of Helper, UT, and Gaylynn Brewer of Delta, CO; paternal great - grandfather, Mark Brewer of Delta, CO; paternal great - grandmother, Phyllis McCoy of Salt Lake City, UT; great - great - paternal grandparents, Wilford and Marie Brewer of Delta, CO; and his paternal great - great - great - grandmother, Thelma Gates of Payson, UT.
David is further survived by his maternal grandparents, Phillip and Norma Vigil of Austin, CO; and maternal great - grandparent, Frances Martinez of Helper, UT.
Also surviving are his three aunts: Heather Brewer of Salt Lake City Utah, Jessica Vigil of Austin, CO, and Chastity Vigil of Grand Junction, CO; and four uncles: Mark and Matthew Brewer of Delta, CO, and Phillip and Pete Vigil of Grand Junction, CO.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Evelyn Baviere
November 27, 1917 - October 18, 2004
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia resident, Evelyn Baviere, passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado on Monday, October 18, 2004. She was 86 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia, Colorado. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
Evelyn Smith was born on November 27, 1917, to James and Mary Jane (Robinson) Smith in Paonia, Colorado. She spent her childhood and attended school in Paonia. She raised her own family in the house she was born in.
Evelyn married Louis Baviere on July 31, 1936, at Paonia. He preceded her in death in March of 1972 in Paonia.
Among her many interests were fishing, hunting and painting. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Those grateful to have share in Evelyn’s life include her son, John D Baviere and his wife Theresa of Clifton, CO; and a daughter, Mary Anna Brenner and her husband Tom of Cortez, CO. She is further survived by five grandchildren: James John Brenner and his wife Ann of Billings, MT, Barry Brenner and Thomas Brenner both of Cortez, CO, and Christine Fox of Grand Junction, CO, and Joni Halladay and her husband Mathew of Grand Junction, CO; great - grandchildren: Bridger and Stevie Brenner of Cortez, CO, Brian Fox and Katrina Fox of Grand Junction, CO, and Allannis Halladay and Allexus Halladay of Grand Junction, CO; and also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; a son, Louis James “Jimmy”; and a grandson, Bruce Brenner.
Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s memory to the North Fork Historical Society, P.O. Box 622, Paonia, CO 81428.

Joe Kuzov
October 12, 1932 - October 19, 2004
DELTA - Lifelong Delta county resident, Joe Kuzov, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2004, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 72.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, October 22, 2004, at the Delta City Cemetery. The Delta - Lee Marts V.F.W. Post # 3571 will preside and dedication of the grave will be given by Kent Whitney.
Joe Kuzov was born on October 12, 1932, to Peter “Pete” and Nettie (Trujillo) Kuzov on California Mesa in Delta, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Delta and graduated from Olathe High School with the class of 1952.
Mr. Kuzov had retired as a government fruit inspector. He had served his country in the United States Navy. Joe belonged to the Delta Elk’s Lodge # 1235, the Eagles Lodge of Grand Junction, and the Delta - Lee Marts V.F.W. Post # 3571.
Joe enjoyed tending bar for many years and found pleasure in visiting with the many friends he had made in the county.
Those grateful to have shared in Joe’s life include two daughters: Martha and Mary Jane both of New Mexico; three brothers: Leonard Kuzov of California, Alfred Kuzov of Aubrey, TX, and Charles Kuzov of Montrose, CO; three sisters: Barbara Arellano of Delta, CO, Josephine Whitney and Maxine Kuzov of California. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and great - nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ed Kuzov.

Loretta Jean Garhart
September 25, 1941 - October 17, 2004
DELTA - Delta County resident, Loretta J. Garhart, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2004, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was 63 years old.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel with James Gall officiating. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
Loretta Jean Jones was born on September 25, 1941, to Elmer Curtis and Opal Merle (Babcock) Jones in Oak Creek, Colorado. She spent her childhood traveling with her parents in Grand and Route County as her father worked in the timber industry. She attended school in the areas where they lived during this time
On December 25, 1958, Loretta married Charles Harry Garhart in Westminster, Colorado. They moved from Boulder to Delta, where they have resided for the past eighteen years. The Garharts had celebrated forty - five years of marriage together. He survives.
Loretta owned and operated Kris’ Restaurant in Delta and she had worked as either a cook or waitress in most of the Delta restaurants. She was of the Protestant faith. Loretta enjoyed gardening, craft projects and being a homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to make her children’s clothes. She had been actively involved in the High School Band Parents organization in Boulder and then in Delta for eleven years.
Those grateful to have shared in Loretta’s life include her husband, Charles Garhart of Delta, CO; three sons: Daniel Garhart and wife Caroline of Lyons, CO, Matthew Garhart and his wife Kimberly of Ft. Collins, CO, and Alexander Garhart and his wife Amanda of Grand Junction, CO; three daughters: Charlene Kohn and her husband Jack of Portsmouth, NH, Cheryl Walters of Canon City, CO, and Kristina Sloss and her husband Mark of Branchburg, NJ; her mother, Opal Jones of Center, CO; a brother, William Jones and his wife Sheliah of Kremmling, CO; and a sister, Marilyn Beiriger and her husband Gary of Center, CO. She is further survived by seven grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delta High School Band, 1400 Pioneer Rd. Delta, CO 81416
