Margaret Jane Blue Feathers

CEDAREDGE - Medicine Woman, Margaret Jane Blue Feathers, departed to the Spirit World on Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Cedaredge, Colo. She was born to William Peavy and Ruth Lawton Peavy in Overton, Texas.
During the Koren Conflict, Margi served her country in the United States Army from Dec. 28, 1954 to Nov. 15, 1955. She met and married her husband at that time. Margi was married to David M. C. Paladin on Jan. 16, 1964, in Taos, N.M. Mr. Paladin preceded Margi in death.
She is survived by her six children: Charles David Paladin, Bryon White Cloud Paladin, Yanaba Coomer, Nanaba Scott Paladin, Ernest War Eagle Paladin, and Hazba Alicia Rose Paladin.
Margi spent a good portion of her life in Sedona, Ariz., where she owned and worked at several art galleries. She was a well known Medicine Woman and helped anyone who needed her assistance. She had close ties to the Hopis and Navajos. Before moving to Cedaredge, Margi resided in Carbondale and Salida, Colo.
She loved oil painting and doing native crafts. She had several pictures at the time of her transition. Margi remained positive and as active as she could despite a debilitating illness the last couple of years.
A Celebration of Transition will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Confluence Park Dance Pavilion. In case of bad weather, the celebration will be held at 1001 Palmer in Delta.
Harold V. Stewart

DELTA - World War II veteran and retired geologist, Harold V. Stewart, age 80, a resident of Cory most of his life, died on Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in the Integrated Health Services of Delta, seven days before he would have celebrated his 81st birthday.
Harold V. Stewart was born in Middle Inlet, Wis., on Jan. 21, 1918, the son of Minor and Clara (Frieski) Stewart. He graduated from the Delta High School.
During World War II, Mr. Stewart served his country as a Private in the United States Army.
In 1949, he graduated from the Colorado School of Mines.
Mr. Stewart worked as a geologist and lived most of his lifetime in Cory.
His special interest was rock sampling.
Mr. Stewart is survived by one sister, Florence Chism, of Delta.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger Stewart.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Stewart's life will be officiated by Gary Chism on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. from the United Pentecostal Church of Delta. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.
David McNally Shipley

CEDAREDGE - Retired civil engineer, David McNally Shipley, age 77, a resident of Cedaredge since 1985, died on Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
David McNally Shipley was born in Wilburton, Kan., on Nov. 10, 1921, the son of Henry Clyde and Anna Louisa (Bowen) Shipley. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Lamar, Colo. He continued to pursue his education at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
Mr. Shipley served his country in the United States Army.
He married his wife, Patricia Ann, on Jan. 13, 1990, in Cedaredge, Colo. He was previously married, with the marriage ending in divorce.
Mr. Shipley was a member of the Surface Creek Community Church of Cedaredge.
During his lifetime he especially loved and enjoyed his career, his family, church work, and traveling. He was a man who lived up to his name David meaning "Beloved" that is what he was, "beloved" to his wife, family, and friends.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mr. Shipley's life include his wife, Patricia Ann Shipley, of Cedaredge; one son; three stepsons; two stepdaughters; 17 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
Other family survivors include two sisters.
Mr. Shipley was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother, and one sister.
Memorial Services in remembrance and to honor Mr. Shipley's life will be officiated on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. from the Surface Creek Community Church, 2nd and Center, in Cedaredge. The service will conclude at the church.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.

Catherine M. Krotz
MONTROSE - A gathering in tribute and remembrance of Catherine M. Krotz, age 72, a homemaker of Montrose, who died on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home in Montrose, will be held at the Montrose Pavilion on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Local survivors include two daughters: Fran and husband Pat Noonan and Gerry Krotz, all of Montrose.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Susan Ann Jones
Licensed Practical Nurse

DELTA - Susan Ann Jones, age 38, a Licensed Practical Nurse and resident of Delta for eight years, died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in Montrose.
Susan Ann Johnson, the daughter of Claude and Nancy (Owen) Johnson, was born on May 20, 1960, in Onaway, Mich., where she spent her childhood, graduated from the Onaway High School, and grew to adulthood.
She received a degree in computer programming and accounting while living in Phoenix, Ariz., and her L.P.N. license from the Vo-Tech School in Delta.
Miss Johnson married Bruce Jones on June 12, 1982, in Phoenix, Ariz. The couple were blessed with one son and were privileged to celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary last year in June.
The Jones family moved from Arizona to Delta eight years ago.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Jones was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse with Integrated Health Services at Delta.
Mrs. Jones was active in the Montrose Lions Eye Bank.
She loved life and loved the outdoors including camping and fishing.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Jones' life include her husband, Bruce Jones; and one son, Frederick Jones, both of Delta.
Other family survivors include her father and mother, Claude and Nancy Johnson; and her father-in-law, Roland Jones, all of Delta.
Cremation has taken place, with a Memorial Service being planned for a later date.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Esther Harmon
Wife, Mother, Grandmother

PAONIA - Esther Harmon, age 83, a resident of Paonia since 1966, died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Harmon was a retired food processor from Skyland Foods in Delta, where she worked for many years.
Esther Frichtel, the daughter of Peter John and Marie (Keller) Frichtel, was born on Oct. 3, 1915, in Hayden, Colo., where she spent her childhood, graduated from the Hayden High School with the class of 1933, and grew to adulthood. She continued to pursue her education at Colorado State Teacher's College in Greeley.
Miss Frichtel married Delbert Harmon on March 21, 1936, in Hayden, Colo. The couple were blessed with two sons and were privileged to celebrate 62 years of marriage last year in March.
The Harmons lived in Olathe for 21 years prior to moving to Paonia in 1966 where Mrs. Harmon made her home until the time of her death.
During her lifetime Mrs. Harmon received a great deal of pleasure from gardening, knitting, and reading.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Harmon's life include her husband, Delbert Harmon, of Paonia; two sons: Jim Harmon and wife Janyce, of Durango; Wes Harmon and wife Marge, of Grand Junction; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Harmon was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside Services (direct burial) in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Harmon's life were officiated by R. Wayne Eklund on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
at Paonia.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. of Paonia.
Jessie A. Ennis

MONTROSE - Jessie A. Ennis, age 85, who started her career owning and operating a cream station in Montrose and then worked for The Gordon Store and Conrads in Montrose for many years, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 17, 1999, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.
Born on Sept. 11, 1913, in Raton, N.M., Jessie A. Thornton was the daughter of Oscar Thornton and Mrs. Oscar (Word) Thornton. She moved with her family to Montrose at a young age. She spent her childhood, received her education, grew to adulthood in Montrose and made her home here until the time of her death.
Miss Thornton was married on Dec. 29, 1935, in Montrose, Colo., to Thomas H. Ennis, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1996, in Montrose.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Ennis' life include two sons: Tom Ennis, of Montrose; and Larry Ennis, of Arizona.
Other family survivors include one brother, Graham Thornton, of Oakland, Calif.; and two sisters: Gladys Schultz, of Denver; and Jean, of California.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ennis was also preceded in death by three brothers: Dudley, Bruce, and Dick Thornton; and three sisters: LaVelle Watson, Hazel, and Naomi Cobb.
Cremation has taken place, with Graveside Inurnment Services to be held at a later date in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Donna M. Casebier

DELTA - Donna M. Casebier, age 55, a self-employed writer and publisher, died on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at her Delta Home.
Born on Nov. 30, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Donna M. Strand was the daughter of Silas Wilbur and Josephine Marie (Wilson) Strand. She spent her childhood, graduated in 1962 from the Ogden High School, and grew to adulthood in Ogden, Utah. Miss Strand continued to pursue her education at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the University of New York in Rochester, N.Y.
She married Richard Casebier on June 13, 1974. The Casebiers were privileged to share 24 years of marriage.
They lived in Delta from 1974 until 1983 when they moved to Colorado Springs. In 1994 the Casebiers returned to Delta where Mrs. Casebier made her home until the time of her death.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Delta and was actively involved in the local Republican Party.
Mrs. Casebier, a very good artist and writer, also loved and delighted in her grandchildren, being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and rocks.
Survivors grateful to have shared Mrs. Casebier's life include her husband, Richard Casebier, of Delta; one son, Eric Casebier and wife Laura, of Edwards; one daughter, Elizabeth and husband Ed Longfield, of Hotchkiss; one stepson, Chad Casebier and wife Cindy, of Monticello, Utah; and one stepdaughter, Charle and husband Denis Thibodeau, of Grand Junction.
She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren.
Mrs. Casebier was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services in remembrance and to honor Mrs. Casebier's life will be officiated by The Rev. Dan Casebier on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. from the Delta Taylor Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow the service in the Pea Green Cemetery
near Olathe, with arrangements being handled under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service, Inc. of Delta.
