GRAND JUNCTION - Minnie Bailey, one of eight children, was born on May 21, 1894, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the daughter of Gene and Mahala (Vaughn) Bailey. She died on Friday, April 23, 1999, in Grand Junction at the age of 105.

When Minnie was 4 years old her mother died and the large family remained together with the help of older siblings, their grandparents, and other relatives.

When Minnie was 13 years old, her father brought the family to the Ash Mesa farming area of Delta, Colo. They traveled on an immigrant train, bringing with them household goods, farm implements, livestock, and their gray pony.

She spent some of her high school years in Pasadena, Calif. with an aunt and uncle.

Minnie married Grover L. Sanders on March 3, 1917, in Delta, Colo. After their honeymoon in Grover's home state of Oklahoma, they took the train to DeBeque where they took a wagon on the DeBeque cutoff to Collbran. The wagon mired in mud and they had to ride horseback the rest of the way.
