Dr. Kathryn Hoye Pichette

LAFAYETTE - Former Montrose resident, Dr. Kathryn B. Hoye Pichette, age 77, of Lafayette, died on Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Denver.
Kathryn B. Hoye was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Aug. 31, 1922.
She married Dr. Lucien O. Pichette. Dr. Lucien Pichette of Regis College in Denver was persuaded to become the first president of Colorado West College in Montrose, a small college unique for its time that made headlines and history. Dr. Kathryn H. Pichette was hired as a professor of English at the Montrose college.
Colorado West College was open between 1967 and 1972 and was closed when definite plans were in the works for Delta-Montrose Vocational Center to be opened.
Prior to her retirement, Dr. Kathryn Pichette was employed as a professor at Regis University in Denver.
Dr. Pichette and her husband had just recently attended a Colorado West College reunion in Montrose on Aug. 13 and 14 at the Montrose Elks Lodge, along with approximately 40 other former college members.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Rotary Club, Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Delta Phi, and Kappa Delta Pi.
Survivors grateful to have shared Dr. Pichette's life include her husband, Dr. Lucien O. Pichette, of Lafayette; four daughters: Marie Smith, of Englewood; Anne Tekansik, of Littleton; Jean Bair, of Denver; and Christine Webb, of Lafayette.
Dr. Pichette was the loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of one great-granddaughter.
Other family survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Hoye, of New York.
Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Horan-McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd., in Denver.
Funeral Mass in remembrance and to honor Dr. Pichette's life was celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. at Regis University in Denver.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Horan-McConaty Family Chapel of Denver.
Wayne Edward Pope
Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather
Feb. 17, 1955 - Sept. 8, 1999
GRAND JUNCTION - Former Delta resident, Wayne Edward Pope, age 44, a resident of Grand Junction for six years, died on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Grand Junction.
Wayne Edward Pope, the son of John R. Pope and Merna R. (Connaway) Pope, was born on Feb. 17, 1955, in Delta, Colo., where he spent his childhood, graduated from Delta High School in 1973, and grew to adulthood.
Wayne married Elizabeth Ann Klim on June 18, 1993, in Meeker, Colo.
He was employed as a plumbing and heating contractor with Connaway & Co.
Wayne lived in Delta until six years ago when he and his family moved to Grand Junction where he made his home until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Delta.
Wayne's special interests and hobbies during his 44 years were: Golfing, craftwork, woodworking, his family, and watching football on TV especially the Denver Broncos.
Survivors grateful to have shared Wayne's life include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Pope, of Grand Junction; three sons: Van Bomgardner, Christopher Pope, Zachary Pope; two daughters: Shawna and husband Tony Oakes; Jennifer Pope; and one granddaughter, Jordan Oakes.
Other family survivors include his parents, John and Merna Pope, of Delta; two brothers: Roy Pope, of Delta; Glenn Pope, of Rhode Island; three sisters: Carrie Montoya, of Austin, Texas; Naoma Heaps, of Grand Junction; Cheryl King, of Delta; one grandmother, LaVara Connaway, of Delta; as well as 12 nieces and nephews and one uncle.
Wayne was preceded in death by three of his grandparents.
Graveside Services to honor and celebrate Wayne's ife will be officiated by Larry Short on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. in the Mesa View Cemetery
at Delta.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta.

William Frederick "Billy" Turner
Was Very Independent

MONTROSE - William Frederick "Billy" Turner, age 77, a resident of Montrose since 1993, died Saturday morning, Sept. 11, 1999, in his home at Montrose.
William Frederick Turner, the son of William Leonard and Lillian (Bloxam) Turner, was born on April 24, 1922, in Colorado Springs, Colo. At the age of 15, Billy moved from the family home to a group home in Grand Junction.
On May 1, 1970, Billy moved from Grand Junction to Harold's Group Home in Olathe and lived there until the home was closed in 1993. He then moved to Montrose where he made his home until the time of his death.
Billy worked in the workshop of Silver Mountain Enterprises.
He greatly enjoyed his family and many dear friends. Billy always looked forward to visiting home in Colorado Springs in the summer and at Christmas. His favorite pastime was collecting rocks. He liked participating and winning in the Special Olympics. Billy also enjoyed flying, videos, movies, and eating out. He will be remembered as being very independent.
Survivors include two sisters: Eva Jones and Lois Peterson, both of Colorado Springs.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Clara Gerlack.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate Billy's life will be officiated by Roger Langer on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Private interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery
at Colorado Springs, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Lee M. Tunget
Farmer and Rancher

OLATHE - Lee M. Tunget, age 73, died of a heart attack on Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999 in the Montrose Memorial Hospital , Montrose, Colorado.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate his life were held this morning at 10 a.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Howard of the Olathe Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed at the Olathe Cemetery
at Olathe, Colo., with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Lee M. Tunget was born on August 24, 1926 on Ash Mesa in Montrose County, the son of William Orlando and Tennessee Lucille Phillips Tunget. He spent his childhood , received his education and grew to adulthood in Olathe.
He married Helen Louise Marsh on Aug. 12, 1944 in the Church of God at Delta. The couple had the privilege of celebrating their 55th anniversary this year.
After receiving his education, Lee started cowboying on a ranch near Cedaredge and then began working for the Fosters on 25 Mesa. After his marriage he moved to a farm and ranch on Ash Mesa near the Joe Gray family. He has been in the farm and ranch and cow business in the Olathe area from 1944 to present.
During the winter months he worked for the Holly Sugar Company during 35 sugar campaigns and when the sugar factory ceased operation, he worked for the Skyland Food Company for 10 years. For a number of years he worked for the Angel's Ranch.
The family has lived on the present ranch since 1959. He thoroughly enjoyed spending many summers with his cattle on 25 Mesa. Even though most of his work was outside, he truly enjoyed being out of doors riding his horses and camping.
He enjoyed working with children and for a number of years both Lee and Helen were engaged in the Flying O 4-H Horse Club, a 4-H horse group for youngsters.
Lee was always on time, usually being 15 minutes early. He was a man of great integrity, a person whose word was his bond, and most would rather have his word on something than a written contract from others.
Above all, his children and grandchildren and family were the main reason for his love of life.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Tunget, of Olathe; daughters Debbie Dunn and friend Bruce Cole, of Olathe; Marian Cook and friend Carleton Heer, of Delta; Anita Tunget of Montrose; six grandchildren: Dennis, David and Darlene of Olathe; Sherri Hansen of Grand Junction; Michael Davis and wife Dolores of Grand Junction; Billy Davis and wife Darlene of Grand Junction; and six great-grandchildren: Kassandra Kuhns and Karissa Kuhns of Grand Junction; Brittney and Mason Davis of Grand Junction; Benjamin Davis and Nicholas Davis of Grand Junction.
Lee was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
David Martin Seaman
Renowned Mineralogist

GRAND JUNCTION - David Martin Seaman, age 92, of Norway, Maine and Grand Junction, a renowned mineralogist, died on Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.
David Martin Seaman was born on Feb. 24, 1907, in Somers, Conn. He received his Master's degree in Geology from the University of Colorado in 1934. He also attended Carnegie Institute, Washington and Jefferson College, and the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
He was associate curator of the Mineralogical Museum at Harvard University, associate curator of the Carnegie Mineralogical Museum at the Museum of Natural History, associate curator of the Mineralogy American Museum of Natural History, curator of the Minerals Museum of Western Colorado, and curator of the Minerals Delta Museum in Delta.
David married Thelma D. Januzzi on March 25, 1972, in Danbury, Conn. David and Thelma were privileged to celebrate their 27th wedding anniversary this year in March.
Survivors grateful to have shared David's life include his wife, Thelma Seaman; one daughter, Virginia Seburg; and three stepchildren: Cindy Andrews, Diane Strout, and William Dodge.
David was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Kirsten, Kate, Mark, Nicole, Tracy, David, and Jessica.
Memorial Services to honor, celebrate, and pay respects to David's life will be officiated on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m. at the chapel, Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Grand Junction.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Martin Mortuary of Grand Junction.
William E. Scott
Rancher and Stockman

MONTROSE - William E. Scott, age 86, died on Friday, Sept. 10, 1999 in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose. William just celebrated his 86th birthday with a family celebration and picnic at Riverbottom Park.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. from the Montrose Valley Funeral Home. Interment will be held at the Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose, with arrangements being handled under the direction of the Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 this evening at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
William E. Scott was born on Sept. 7, 1913 in Montrose, the son of William E. and Mattie E. Heckman Scott. He lived his entire life in Montrose.
On Oct. 28, 1942, he married Bernice Marple at Delta. His wife of nearly 57 years survives.
After receiving his education, William began working and ranching with his father in the Spring Creek Mesa area, summering his cattle on private ground in the Log Hill area and on permits in the Dry Creek Basin.
After their marriage, the couple established their home on Maple Grove Road where they have remained for 57 years.
William enjoyed the out of doors and enjoyed hunting and being around his horses. Most of all, he thoroughly enjoyed his family and ranching.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Billie and husband Paul Jones of Olathe; Nancy Bright of Montrose; Barbra and husband Archie Coghill of Montrose; Shawna and husband Dave Weber of Montrose; four grandchildren: Travis Coghill of Montrose, Deanna McCallum of Lafayette, Shannon Wilkins of Montrose, Colleen Scott of Denver; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Wilkins and Kaleb Wilkins, both of Montrose.
Irving W. Roberts Jr.
Electrical Engineer

MONTROSE - Irving W. Roberts Jr., age 85, died Friday morning, Sept. 10, 1999 in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
A memorial Service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1 p.m. from the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Belt officiating. Cremation has preceded the service and the service will conclude at the chapel.
Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose.
Irving W. Roberts was born on Oct. 7, 1913 at Liberty, Mo., the son of Irving W. Roberts Sr. and Rubey Kissock Roberts. He spent his childhood at Eureka, Kans.., Worland, Wyo., and Denver, Colo., graduating from South High School in Denver.
He attended Colorado State University at Fort Collins, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He was employed as an electrical engineer for the United States Bureau of Reclamation.
Irving married Virginia Mosley on June 18, 1937 at Denver. His wife of 62 years survives.
The Roberts moved to Montrose in 1965, where Irving made his home until the time of his death. The moved from Loveland where they had lived for 10 years, working for the Bureau of Reclamation.
He was a member of the S\igma Nu Fraternity, the Masonic Lodge Joppa Daylight Lodge No. 174 A.F. & A. M., was a Past Worthy Matron of Orient No. 23 of Loveland; a member of the Eastern Star, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, the Montrose Elk's Lodge No. 1053, and was a volunteer for the Montrose Historical Museum and the Senior Center of Montrose.
Irving enjoyed stamp collecting, tennis and bridge. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and dancing. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara Jean and husband Norman R. Clifford of King, N.C.; five grandchildren: Samuel W. and wife Judy Clifford; Kelly J. and fianc Terry Neiss; Maxwell N. and wife Akiko Clifford; Holly J. and husband Henry Nethery; Tomi and Amy Jo Roberts; eight great-grandchildren: Samantha, Maxine and Leo Clifford, Elizabeth and Stacy Nethery; Norman, Sakura and Yui Clifford.
Other family survivors include a sister, Alice and husband Bob Phennah; and a niece, Sharon Phennah.

Dollie L. Montgomery
Montrose Homemaker

MONTROSE - Dollie L. Montgomery, age 87, of Montrose and a resident of the Colorow Care Center in Olathe for the past six months, died Monday morning, Sept. 13, 1999, in the Montrose Memorial Hospital.
Dollie L. Ledsinger, the daughter of James Ledsinger and Nonie Florance (Kirby) Ledsinger, was born on July 23, 1913, in Caroll City, Tenn. She spent her childhood, graduated from high school, and grew to adulthood in Tennessee.
Dollie married Jack Montgomery on March 15, 1934, in Monroe, La. Jack preceded Dollie in death on Oct. 1, 1991, in Montrose.
Dollie was a homemaker and was employed as a line leader at the Ark Ordnance Plant.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of Nashville, Tenn.
Dollie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two grandsons: Geoffrey Montgomery, of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Jack Montgomery, of Colorado Springs; one brother, Carl Ledsinger, of Trubuco, Calif.; one nephew, Steve Ledsinger; and one niece, Carla Ledsinger.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dollie was also preceded in death by one son, Jack Montgomery Jr., who died on Sept. 2, 1993.

Estella M. Marshall
Gibson Employee 11 Years

MONTROSE - Lifelong Montrose resident, Estella M. Marshall, age 68, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 13, 1999, in her home at Montrose.
Estella Mae Larue was born in Telluride, Colo. on Oct. 13, 1930, the daughter of John E. Larue and Ruth M. (Walker) Larue. She spent her childhood, graduated from Montrose County High School with the class of 1949, and grew to adulthood in Montrose. She continued her education at business school in Pueblo.
Estella married Gerald R. Williams, a Colorado State Patrolman, in 1951 at Montrose, Colo. Gerald was killed in 1967 while on duty with the state patrol in LaJunta.
Estella, a homemaker, was employed with Montrose Gibson's Discount Store for 11 years prior to her retirement.
During her 68 years of life, Estella acquired many special interests and hobbies that added pleasure and meaning to her life including: crossword puzzles from papers throughout the United States, making hand-stitched doll clothes, her friends, books, and her eight grandchildren.
Estella recently attended her 50th Montrose County High School Reunion and was so thrilled to see and be with her high school pals. She was equally thrilled in July to visit and be with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in Kansas.
Survivors include two sons: Michael R. Williams and wife Janet, of De Soto, Kan.; Patrick J. Williams, of Queens City, Texas; and one daughter, Debra J. and husband Wayne Kansgen, of Longmont.
Estella was the very proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Kelli and husband Shannon Mocca; Kent Williams, all of De Soto, Kan.; Ross Williams and Garrett Williams, both of Queens City, Texas; Jerald Lohr; Adam Lohr and wife Farrah; Trista Kansgen; and Devin Kansgen, all of Longmont; and the great-grandmother of three great-grandchildren: Joseph Drew Mocca, 5 months old, of De Soto, Kan.; Stone Alexander Lohr, 2 years old; and Jamie Lohr, 10 years old, both of Longmont.
In addition to her parents and husband, Estella was also preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Larue, who died in 1941.
Cremation has taken place, with no services planned. Private inurnment of the cremains will be conducted in the Grand View Cemetery
west of Montrose.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
