Robert Franklyn Griswold

Loved Cars, Traveling

July 27, 1932 - Oct. 10, 2000

ARRIBA - Robert Franklyn Griswold, age 68, of Arriba, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 10, 2000, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident in Montrose County while traveling as he enjoyed doing.

Robert Franklyn Griswold, the son of Franklyn Thomas Griswold and Jessie Ross (Boyton) Griswold, was born on July 27, 1932, in Middleboro, Mass. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Massachusetts.

After receiving his education, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 1949 until December 1950. He then served four years during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force from December 1950 until December 1954. Robert was honorably discharged from military service.

He moved from Colorado Springs to Arriba where he lived for 18 years until the time of his death.

Robert loved and collected cars. He found happiness and contentment in traveling and spending time with his dogs. His death has left a huge unwanted emptiness in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Robert will be deeply missed.

Survivors very grateful to share Robert's life include his seven children: Michael Griswold, Debra Wheeland, Monica Seeley, Dave Griswold, Robert Griswold, Steven Griswold, and Jessica.

Other family survivors include one brother, Tom Griswold; and two sisters: Phyllis and Ann.

Robert was preceded in death by his second wife, Sandy Griswold; and one brother, Sam Griswold.

A private family Memorial Service in loving remembrance and to celebrate Robert's life will be held.

Inurnment will take place in the Fort Logan National Cemetery at Denver.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose; (970) 249-2121.

Maria R. Bustamante

Mother of Seven Children

Aug. 30, 1917 - Oct. 11, 2000

DELTA - Maria R. Bustamante, age 83, of Delta, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in the Colorow Care Center at Olathe.

Maria R. Valdez was born in Pasamonte, N.M., on Aug. 30, 1917, the daughter of John and Juanita (Olivas) Valdez.

Maria was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, to Benedicto "Bennie" Bustamante on April 16, 1938, in Delta, Colo. Maria and Bennie were the parents of seven children and had shared 53 years of marriage at the time of Bennie's death on Feb. 6, 1991, in Delta.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Delta.

Among the many loves in Maria's life, she especially loved and treasured her grandchildren, sewing, and her flower gardens.

Survivors very grateful to share Maria's life include two sons: Gilbert Bustamante, of Delta; Ray Bustamante, of Montrose; and four daughters: Pricilla Blum, of Eckert; Stella Nelson, of Montrose; Della Mae Bingham, of DeBeque; and Becky Roberts, of Atlanta, Ga.

Maria was the proud and loving grandmother of 13 precious grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Other family survivors include one brother, Max Valdez, of Olathe; and one sister, Beatrice Archuleta, of Delta.

Along with both of her parents and her husband, Bennie, Maria was also preceded in death by one son, Steve Bustamante; and one granddaughter, Erickka Nelson.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.

Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to celebrate Maria's life will be officiated on Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Interment will follow the service in the Delta City Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta; (970) 874-8633.

Jose Dario Abeyta

A Very Sharing Man

Nov. 20, 1914 - Oct. 12, 2000

DELTA - Jose Dario Abeyta, age 85, of Delta, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.

Jose Dario Abeyta was born on Nov. 20, 1914, in LaPuente, N.M., the son of Jesus and Elena (Trujillo) Abeyta.

He was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, to Manuelita Ulibarri on July 5, 1937, in Los Ojos, N.M. Jose was preceded in death by his wife.

For many years, Jose worked as a ranch foreman for a sheep ranch. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he worked as a custodian in Colorado Springs.

When Jose came back to Delta, he returned to his original home that he had lived in since 1957 when he came to Delta from New Mexico.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Delta, Our Lady of Guadelupe Society, Confradio de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazarreno, and Socidad de San Antonio de Padua.

Jose was a very sharing man who was willing to help anyone in need. During his lifetime he found happiness and enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors very grateful to share Jose's life include four sons: Milton Abeyta and wife Rosie, of Questa, N.M.; Robert Abeyta and wife Carmen, of Colorado Springs; Jose H. Abeyta and wife Loretta, of Montrose; Allen Abeyta and wife Mary, of Delta; and one daughter, Tina and husband Leo Covert, also of Delta.

Jose was the proud and loving grandfather of nine precious grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Other family survivors include one brother, Leo Abeyta, of Whitewater; and two sisters: Cordie Navarrette, of Grand Junction; and Alice Harris, of Delta.

Along with both of his parents and his wife, Manuelita, Jose was also preceded in death by one grandchild, one brother, and three sisters.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.

Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor and celebrate Jose's life will be officiated on Monday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Interment will follow the service in the Mesa View Cemetery at Delta.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Mesa View Mortuary-Cemetery of Delta; (970) 874-8633.

Edgar "Ed" Stanley

Retired Montrose Chief of Police

June 21, 1915 - Oct. 13, 2000

MONTROSE - Edgar "Ed" Stanley, age 85, a resident of Montrose since 1957, died Friday evening, Oct. 13, 2000, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose.

Edgar Stanley was born on June 21, 1915, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In 1957, he moved from Colorado Springs to Montrose. He was employed with the City of Montrose and worked his way up, retiring as Chief of Police for the City of Montrose. He also spent several years as a night watchman for Russell Stover Candies Inc. in Montrose.

The greatest love of Ed's life was fishing.

At his request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose; (970) 249-2121.

Steve P. Ruck

Longtime Clifton Resident

Feb. 6, 1969 - Oct. 6, 2000

CEDAREDGE - Steve P. Ruck, age 31, a resident of Cedaredge for seven months, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Cedaredge.

Steve P. Ruck, the son of Fred Ruck and Sarah (Rye) Ruck, was born on Feb. 6, 1969, in Grand Junction, Colo.

Steve lived most of his life in Clifton before moving to Cedaredge seven months ago where he resided until the time of his death.

The loves in Steve's life that brought him happiness and contentment were fishing, hunting, collecting antiques, and mountain biking.

Steve's friend and roommate, John Moore, of Cedaredge, survives and was very grateful to share Steve's life.

No services will be held.

Jesse Howard Norris

Coal Miner, Cement Finisher

Dec. 3, 1911 - Oct. 16, 2000

PAONIA - Jesse Howard Norris, age 88, of Paonia, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in the Paonia Care & Rehabitation at Paonia.

Jesse Howard Norris was born at Somerset, Colo., on Dec. 3, 1911, the son of James Edward Norris and Myrtle (Howell) Norris. He spent his childhood on a ranch at Anthracite near the Somerset area and attended the following schools: Bardine, Somerset, and the Old Bennett School House. All the schools were in the Somerset area.

Jesse was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, to Eulah Mae (Gorby) Littlejohn on Feb. 6, 1963, at Monticello, Utah. Jesse and Eulah had shared 37 wonderful years of marriage at the time of Jesse's death.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a coal miner and a cement finisher.

In 1945, Jesse moved from Somerset to Paonia where he remained until the time of his death.

He was a lifetime member of the United Mine Workers Assn. No. 6417 and a lifetime member of Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807.

He and his brothers had an orchestra and they played for dances all over the valley. Jesse played the mandolin.

Jesse enjoyed fishing, loved the outdoors and taking hikes in the mountains.

Survivors very grateful to share Jesse's life include his wife, Eulah Norris, of Paonia; one son, Gary Norris, of Yuma, Ariz.; two stepsons: Keith Littlejohn and wife Marcia; Bob Littlejohn and wife Marty, all of Paonia; and two daughters: Bonnie Faye and husband Jack Payne, of Chandler, Ariz.; and Cynthia and husband Les Brolliar, of Mesa, Ariz.

Jesse was the proud and loving grandfather of 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Other family survivors include one brother, Allen Norris and wife Mattie, of Ridgway; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Norris and Anne Norris, both of Paonia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jesse was preceded in death by both of his parents; and one stepdaughter, Sherry Wardlaw.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia.

Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Jesse's life will be officiated by James Gall and United Mine Workers Assn. No. 6417 on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Paonia.

Marie Ferrick

Always Had A Smile

April 26, 1899 - Oct. 14, 2000

MONTROSE - Joe Balet, along with many other people, lost a very kind, gentle and humble friend who always had a smile and a kind word. Marie Ferrick, age 101, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2000, in the Valley Manor Care Center at Montrose.

Marie was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 26, 1899, one of nine brothers and sisters.

She married James "Jimmy" Ferrick and moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where they had a short, loving life together before Jimmy died from tuberculosis.

Marie was a nurse and showed her love and caring with everyone.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters.

At Marie's request, cremation will be held and no services are planned.

Arrangements were handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home; (970) 249-4400.

Glen D. Anderson

Loving Husband, Favorite Uncle

Aug. 5, 1942 - Oct. 10, 2000

ELMER CITY, Wash. - Former Montrose resident, Glen D. Anderson, age 58, of Elmer City, Wash., died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in the Coulee Community Hospital.

Glen D. Anderson, the son of Charles and Tauline Anderson, was born on Aug. 5, 1942, in Denver, Colo.

He was joined in marriage, for a lifetime partnership, to Aloma Jean Barnes on June 29, 1963, in Gunnison, Colo. Glen and Aloma had shared 37 wonderful years together at the time of Glen's death.

He worked for the government in Lyman, Wyo.; Gunnison and Montrose, Colo.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Seattle, Wash., and from 1979 to 2000 in Coulee Dam, Wash.

He was a member and currently serving as president of Banks Lake Golf & Country Club, present Governor of the Moose Lodge, and a member of the Elks Lodge and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Among the many loves in Glen's life that brought him happiness and satisfaction were golfing, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors very grateful to share Glen's life include his wife, Aloma Anderson, of Elmer City, Wash.; one brother, Duane Anderson, of Bullhead City, Ariz.; one sister, Linda Cruager, of Hayden Lake, Idaho; as well as being dearly loved by his many nieces and nephews.

Glen was laid to rest in the Spring Canyon Cemetery at Grand Coulee, Wash., overlooking the Grand Coulee Dam.

Ed Foster

Construction Carpenter

Jan. 14, 1968 - Oct. 15, 2000

NORWOOD - Ed Foster, known by his friends as "Pug," age 32, died Sunday evening, Oct. 15, 2000, from injuries he receives in an automobile accident on Sanborn Park Rd. in Norwood.

Edward N. Foster, the son of Edward J. Foster and Kristy (Sunde) Foster, was born on Jan. 14, 1968, in Telluride, Colo. He spent his childhood, received his education, and grew to adulthood in Norwood.

He married Holly Fields on Dec. 1, 1992, in Montrose, Colo.

He lived his entire lifetime on the Western Slope of Colorado and was employed as a carpenter in construction.

Among the loves in Ed's life that brought him happiness and contentment were his life's work of woodworking, fishing, hunting, and children. One of his favorite pastimes was arrowhead hunting. Ed's unexpected death has left a huge unwanted emptiness in the lives of all who knew and loved him and he will be greatly missed.

Survivors very grateful to share Ed's life include his wife, Holly Foster, of Montrose; five sons: James Lay, of Cortez; Michael and Joseph Foster, both of Cortez; Darren Ray Foster and Jessie James Foster, both of Montrose; two stepsons: Randy Fields and Jerry Vasquez, both of Montrose; and one daughter, Debbie Harmon, of Norwood.

Other family survivors include his parents, Ed and Kristy Foster, of Norwood; two brothers: Brandy Foster and wife Susan, of Washington State; Apache Foster and wife Barbara, of Montrose; and his two grandmothers: Patricia Sunde and Frances Foster, both of Norwood.

Ed was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lymon Leonard; one nephew, Christopher Foster; and his great-grandparents, Ed and Lily Spor.

At Ed's request, cremation has taken place and Memorial Services in loving remembrance and to honor his life will be officiated by The Rev. Jimmy Carter on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Norwood Baptist Church. The service will conclude at the church.

Inurnment of the cremains will be held in the Grand View Cemetery at Montrose at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose; (970) 249-2121.
